Sailing from Moon Point to Kingfisher Bay today, we stopped at Urang Creek specially to visit this cache. We are on the home leg of our epic Qld coast sailing trip on our catamaran, Montage - 7 months on a leaky boat! We had considered visiting on the way up but the weather was unfavourable to get back here after refuelling at Urangan and battling a few squalls, so we decided to save it for another day. Lucky we did as now we have magically timed the visit perfectly to fill the last remaining date on our geocaching find calendar - this date has been the only blank for at least 2 years now. I somehow missed it last year when it would have been a lot easier as it was a weekend and we were at home. A lot harder to find caches from the boat - they are very few and far between, but somehow the planets aligned & we had a cache available today & here we are. We anchored and took the dinghy in to the creek just a short way to the nice white sandy "boat ramp". I wonder if anyone else has found this cache via boat. All the previous logs I saw were from car based cachers. It was only a short walk up the track to gz but it took a while longer to locate the cache. We checked both sides then narrowed it down to the western side and even though it's been found recently it was still well covered with natural camouflage. I went to add some swaps as the box was empty but then I remembered that perhaps they are not allowed in national parks, so left as was. Just signed the log. Another exciting thing about this cache is that it's one of the oldest in Qld, so a favourite point from us for the longevity, location & helping fill our calendar.3674 @ 1240hTFTC Swellerfungus & Johnny Geocache

7a - The one in between seven and nine. You know, two cubed. Four plus four. The one you can't say out loud or else you'll get ate. What do you mean, the ichor god Bel-Shamharoth can't tell the difference between two homonyms like the past tense of the verb "to eat", and the number eight... OK, so they sound identical but have different meanings, that's what a homonym means. Fine, but is this really the time for a grammar lesson?Whoops...

Ive never been to Kgariso I was a little bit excited when Beardman75 suggested a weekend awayBeardman75, CaptainVimes, and Davinells all had valuable roles to play I was light entertainmentLets be honest, this Q100 cache was the main reason for our whole trip and when it was finally found on the other side of the track there was a palpable sense of relief for those of us not on the phone and a physical sense of relief for the one of us who had to pee as they could pick a treeAn awesome group of friends means I am able to claim this findThanks Swellerfungus Dingo Count - 0

I finally got over here with CaptainVimes, Davinells and Peppa for a caching weekend. This was our first target after getting off the boat and we found it after a short search. This is #98 of the 100 oldest in Qld for me. Thanks for the cache Swellerfungus

Beardman75 had an idea so a plan was made to head to Kgari for a weekend of sun, sea and sand. With Beardman75 at the wheel, CaptainVimes, Peppa and all of the Davinells piled into the pajero and off we went. This cache was the main reason for the whole trip so after disembarking the barge we headed here first. A bumpy ride on the inland tracks but nothing we couldnt handle. We pulled up right beside GZ and spread out in search. We searched both sides of the track before BM75 found the cache on the western side of the track.Very happy to tick off another oldie. Thanks for bringing us here SwellerfungusFind #4705

Easily found. Love exploring K’Gari. Thank you

Thought that this oldie was out of reach. Then i booked a few days on Fraser, how hard can it be to drive there?
Not that hard I think. Common sense and low 4WD seems to go along way.
Searched for some time for this one. My map had it on the inland side of the road, that was also where my device took me.
Eventually found it on the ocean side of the track.
Another if the 100 signed!

Thank you for hiding this geocache Johnny Geocache

A last minute decision and we decided on driving across to the west side to see some historical sites. Thanks for positioning this cache to draw our attention to this place. Much harder for me to find than it should have been. But it was were it should have been and in good condition. Thanks for placing this cache and the history.

Fraser Island and the surrounding beachside locations have been on my bucket list for many years so I jumped at the chance when charmad asked me to join him and Triple Turmoil on a 4WD camping trip on the Anzac Day long weekend. This was an awesome adventure with great weather, lots of laughter with many a joke and story telling, sleeping under the stars, spotting six dingoes and many beautiful birds that I've never seen before. I was amazed at the amount of lakes we visited, all very different but such a pleasure to see them.

A nice long inland drive to get to GZ where we were disappointed to find the burnt out remains of this very old cache. After a PAF to the CO, permission was given for us to leave a replacement container and place in a more suitable spot away from the burnt remains and the loads of old bottles/cans spoiling the beautiful landscape. One can found has a date of World Expo 88 so it has been lying here for over 30 years.

A three day camping road trip with Snickersallan, Triple turmoil and myself was organised to see Fraser Island, Rainbow Beach and Double island point. What a fantastic time we had; driving around enjoying the scenery, bush walks, visiting lakes, lunch and dinners on the beach, and a great camp site at Dundubara. The trip was full of laughs and great companionship, thank you.

Continuing our drive north we came to this one, the area has seen a serious fire and a few trees done. We searched for some time and then came across a burnt out charred mess we took as the cache, confirmed by the CO. With limited phone coverage we got in contact with the co and got permission to replace this one. Over the years this place has been used as a dumping ground so please be careful. The cache has a new spot away from dangers and the new coordinates have been sent to the co. Thanks to the CO for his help and allowing us to keep this oldie in play.

I have never had the opportunity to visit Fraser Island. Chamad wanted an adventure. A road trip and I am super grateful that he took me along. We had a 3 day road trip, on Fraser Island, Double Island Point and Rainbow beach, plus a detour on the way home to Brisbane through Gympie, Boreen Point and Noosa. Snickersallen joined us too and it was great to meet someone new, especially someone fun to cache with. So many laughs, frustrations and more laughs. Lots achieved. Some road blocks preventing some wanted achievements, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway.

This was an oldie. A big part of history. Unfortunately we found the charred remains of the cache. We had a small patch of phone service here so we were able to contact the owner and offer to replace the cache to keep this history alive and well. CO was very grateful that we were on site and able to do this. Cache has been moved a little from GZ as there was no longer any good hiding places. The area is also very littered with at least 700 (that was for Chamad) glass bottles, broken. So be careful if you don't have proper shoes.

Well, this was a great adventure! A last minute opportunity got me to the Island and I decided to head to this cache on the second night after dinner. Three vehicles heading out into the night to find a cache. One geocacher and four curious muggles. Once at GZ the containers were quickly found. What’s left of the original is now very brittle. Log signed and cache put back as found.. now things get interesting. I got bitten by something on my lower shin area and I shine my torch down to look and see a Wolf Spider sitting there. Ouch! I’m so glad there was some Stingose available! Once that got sorted we looked at a map and saw we could simply drive a loop back to the track back. Wrong. Some of this loop no longer exists. We turn around to head back the way we came and both muggle cars get bogged. Shovels and maxtrax saved the night. I felt a little guilty that I was the only one that didn’t get bogged. Go the Delica! This adventure was the highlight of my first visit to Fraser Island. Thanks for the cache. Fav
Cheers

Owner maintenance run today. Happy to be back. Added another ‘layer’ to the cache protection. Please take care with the “outer layer” as it is the original one!!! Very old now. A real shame that the original logbook has passed on. Thanks to those that replaced it.

The only relic I found here was the original geocache container. Luckily there's a small water proof one inside

Yeah!! we finally got here. Found some ruins but not all of them, A little disappointed about not finding the ruins, but we really enjoyed the drive across the island and a detour through the 'Valley of Giants' Thanks Johnny Geocache for the hide. More island to discover next year!!!

Taking the new (4WD) girl Suzee` Prime for an offroad spin - her first time off tar ... and here we are on Fraser! As you do. With the Mrs, Team Herbz, Sweet_bee and Fangsoki along we camped at Waddy Point and excursioned from there each day. Today was south and south-west, and this was next.

OK. I see not found for well over a year? I guess a little off the main roads, but still - didn't take us that long to trundle over from the eastern beach - and the road in was ever changing, little micro-climates. A nice wooden and solid bridge over the creek, even a little township nearby. Should be visited more often.

Cache container was a little brittle/cracked, so Fangsoki tended some love and care to it so that the log and contents will be OK for at least the next few years.

This is one of Queensland's oldest 100 still living geocaches - and so, yes, this was a true focus target for us this weekend. Chuffed to nab another one that old.

Thanks for placing this cache, Johnny Geocache. And Swellerfungus for looking after it now. Left in good condition.
Cool *{Overall find #5139}* Cool

Pprime, Sweet_bee, and I made our way to this cache next.

This cache was THE must-get for me on this trip - as it is one of Queensland's "100 oldest" caches.

The trip from Lake Garawongera was winding and long - but very scenic. Sweet_bee commented how this side of the island reminded her of Moreton Island - I would have to agree. To my knowledge, I had not been out along here before.

I led the charge to GZ and we eventually pulled up. We made our way into the bush - following Mr Prime's GPSr. I spotted it a way off.

As reported, the cache is in a state. Who would have though a Sistema would be "in a state" after 13 years in the bush?! The last finder has put it lid down - which has probably saved it a great deal (Good job, Mr Herbz!). The lid is certainly not long for this world. The existing logbook seemed to have been eaten by some type of munching insect.

I had previously spoke to Mr Swellerfungus and he agreed a replacement of some description should be in order. Pprime suggested we put the replacement container in the old container. So we all signed the new logbook and put the new container into the old container.

A large PVC might be the best option for this one long term (I did intend to organise one - but time got away from me Twisted). I'm surprised the Sistema survived as long as it did.

A wonderful area very worthy of a cache. This one is currently the 99th oldest, active geocache in Queensland. TFTC Johnny Geocache - and thanks to Swellerfungus for keeping the cache going Smile

We're spending a few days on Fraser Island showing some friends around from the UK. Having spent the morning at Central Station gathering information for a certain Earthcache, we dropped our friends off back at the resort and headed out to find this cache.

The tracks are in pretty good nick compared to last time we were over here. Recent rains have firmed up the sand nicely. So we had no real issues getting here apart from where the vegetation encroaches to make these less used tracks a little skinnier than normal. If a few little scratches down the sides of your 4WD worry you, go in someone else's!

It took a few minutes to locate the big beast but Mrs. Herbz came up with the goods while Mr. Herbz was searching the huge concrete container nearby. We added our names to the log which, although slightly damp, is in reasonable condition. If the next finder could bring along a large A4 sized ziplock bag for the log book this would help as the lid is brittle, cracked and won't last much longer. We added a new laminated stash note.

We then headed north a little ways and found a nice open spot to picnic overlooking the bay. A nice way to spend an afternoon getting our T5 souvenir. It took us about an hour each way from Kingfisher Bay. TFTC Swellerfungus an FP from us

We're on Fraser Island for about a week so there was no way we weren't going to look for caches here. This is a fabulous spot and we're giving it a favourite because of the location. The container is a bit damaged but is quite well covered. There's a citrus fruit tree nearby - I think it might be an orange tree but not 100% sure. The fruit is ripe so maybe I should've picked one and cut it up to find out?? Thanks heaps for hiding a cache in this very pretty place.

Good walk through on the sand to the cache, a nice easy find. The container is a little damaged and the log book is a bit damp. Needs a bit of maintenance. TFTC

Oh my we found it!!!! We were so excited. We had 49km of fuel range left in the tank and made it to kingfisher with 8 remaining. Found with Fraser family's. Our first find for the year.

24-Dec-13
Here for our annual holiday on Fraser but this year with a difference...now we are geocachers. So an ordinary trip to the beach, or a lake, or the top end, or even just to the shop will become a search and find mission, especially as Swellerfungus is in the second half of the 365 challenge.

So here we are tripping across to the other side of the island in search of a cache. Usually this means a trip over to Kingfisher Bay but this time we are going a bit further north to Urang Creek. We stopped in at Lake Garawongera on the way for a look, saw a teeny weeny frog and then kept going.

We arrived at GZ, hopped out of the car and started looking...unsure how long this was going to take as it hadn't been found in two years. We had a muggle with us that had not seen a geocache before so after about 5-10 mins looking she says "so what is it we are looking for? How big is this container? Just like one that might be at home...oh ok then." In a different direction to where we were looking we then hear "could it be something like this?".....and our muggle is tapping the lid of the container which is poking out just a little from the ground coverings. We pulled the container out and it is in great condition...having been thinking we may have been replacing it as Swellerfungus is adopting this cache. Loads of the goodies are still there in the container. That's a huge list of people on the front page, great organisation in getting all those people together out here all at once. Log signed, all good.

On the way out we went for a drive along the edge of the creek and found a huge turtle shell, about a metre long.

Thanks for bringing us along this track.

24-Dec-13
In my search of caches on Fraser Island to satisfy my cache a day for a year challenge I came across this one that had not been found for some time. After contacting the owner I ended up adopting it. My first point if order was to rectify the fact that it had be been found by me! In fact it had only been found once in two years and a most recent attempt being a DNF. We came across the island on some dodgy 4wd tracks with a replacement cache if needed, however our 'non cacher' add on friend of my daughters was the first to spot the real deal! Woohoo all still in good order with a lot of the treasures from when it was placed 10 years ago still inside!
This one is definitely still in play, and I look forward to my trips here to check on it on my usual migrations to the island.

I was at the little landing, lucky to get reception on my phone and realised this one is just a couple of 100 meters away. Luckily a quick find cause the bugs were eating me alive. The biggest cache I found so far, and clearly not found for a while.

In the company of Ian and Penny and pprass enjoying 2 weeks on this beautiful island. We decided to try the other side of the island today and enjoy the difference it offers. Great location for Z force filming and practise area for the troops. Boys were very disappointed that they did not bring the rods as we could see the traces of fish.
Thanks for bringing us here.

Found at 1.20pm GAFF1 in the comany of Ian & Penny and xambo4u. We have been wanting to come across to this side of the island for many years and now we have a good reason. We didn't see many other relics of the operation apart from the boards going down to the creek. Must have been the launching ramp.
Thanks johnny Geocache

Thanks Johnny Geocache for the cache.

With the afternoon a couple of hours old, it was time to head across the island to see the other side Razz
I had a very scenic drive across the island on some surprisingly smooth tracks Smile
As I neared GZ, I was stopped in my tracks by a fallen tree only 100 metres short of my goal. A quick stroll and the cache was found safe and sound Smile
A lovely area which needed more exploration.
I took Fido the Faithful travel bug and dropped in a computer game.

This was my second attempt to find this cache the first time I assumed it was near the Z force camp and went there first only to find it was 10 kilometres north and not enough time to drive there. This time I came by water and got it right Big Grin, a nice little spot and an easy find assisted by Water Rat. We took nothing and left Fido the Faithful TB, TFTC

This was the last day of our Fraser Island week of fun & 4wd'ing with the gophers, so we decided to head up to the Centre and check out the cache there.
We left mid morning and thought it would only take a few hours, but in fact the inland track was much slower going than expected. We thought the cache was near the resort area, but realised as we approached that it was much further away. It was a still a nice trek in, but the round trip was a few hours longer than planned.
Took matches out to avoid a forest accident and left a keyring and Tassie balloon.
Thanks Johnny Geocache for another area of the island that we would not have visited if not for your cache,
Roostaman.

We came from Kingfisher Bay Resort, and like Geographobiacs, took the wrong track and ended up at Log Landing. Thanks for clearing the track for us, guys[^] After backtracking we found the correct track & the cache without further trouble. TNLN. No biting bugs at this time of year! We took the time on the way back to visit the "Valley of the Giants". Aaawesome.
Thanks Johnny Geocache

Was nice to check out that area! The best bit that we saw, was the Poyungan Forestry camp. That's what the map calls it, was talking to a ranger, and she called it something else. Very interesting spot. Looks like they just upped and left around Oct '91.

Took a rather disused track from NOrthern Road to "Log Landing". Should be clear for a little while - sadly Nathan bought a hatchet at the Eurong store, and therefore we possessed the capability to cut through small trees blocking the trail. Fun for the first couple, but after 5 or 6 - with a bluntening axe - not so fun! hahaha!

Still having fun.

been watching this one for over a year, we tend to go straight to the top and camp, but this time dragged the 4x4 club to this side. we camped at the old airport nearby and made our way here before driving the treacherous beach run from moon point to wathumba. gave the co-ords to the others with gps, so we might have some new players as they thought it was great. i also thought this might be near mckenzies jetty but no problems tnln cache in good order. thanks johnny and the sand flies are still about.

After we landed on Fraser Island for our week long holiday we decided this would be our first prject, to find this particular cache.
The drive there was rough as are all the tracks to anywhere on the Island...Be prepared to use lots of fuel no matter where you go...

11:30 We found it with no difficulty at all..The sandflies found us with no difficulty at all..

All up was a nice trip. we took the frisbee and left some Aussie Coins...$5.00 worth..
We went to Kingfisher Bay after this for a well earned coffee...

The Cache was in good condition but, some moisture had gotten in and some stuff was damp..We stayed for half an hour and let it dry before putting it back...

Thanyou for the excellent adventure...

found this cache whilst on a trip with the holden 4wd drive club of south australia. 2 other couples fron the club assisted and were caught up in the excitement of locating the cache. the hints to this location are a little distracting as we travelled the z force training camp to find that the cache was 10.3 km north! No resorts closer than 8 kms away. i am not sure if z force used the area where the cache was located, none the less it was good to locate something that had not been located before. 57 people helped in placing the cache! must have been a big camp with that many helpers. special thanks to Jennifer who did find the cache first. She is now hooked and was a highlight of her trip. Thanks Johnny for the chance to explore more of this fantastic island. Left a smiley face magnet and golf ball and took 3 plastic cups, one for each couple that assisted.
Also left the geocache info sheet inside the cache as requested.
