Sailing the east coast of Australia. On a stop at Maggie Island I introduced my partner to geocaching with this one.Tftc
We Dutchies are happy traveling with our campervan from Cairns to Brisbane Found this cache on our adventure We have found 5 Kualas on our way up TB in: 0TB out: 0
Nice cache, a tiny bit of bushwacking to get to it, the hint is clear enough to find it rather quickly. Great view from up there.TFTCMomo & TristanOut: nothingIn: 1 Hong Kong Dollar
A scramble about for a bit but wasn't needed really. An easy find when spotted.Another day on Magnetic Island, aided by the scooter (motorbike) to get around. Given the warm temperatures the cool breeze was pleasant and a fun way to travel and see the sights. With great parking and only $5 to refill for two days, it was very nice.Exploring by caching, a few walks, scenic lookouts, coastal views and a Jetty. The forts walk was warm, but worth the effort. Enjoyed the area and the history and spotted a few koalas with babies close to the path. After a well earned icy cold smoothy and lunch, we took the short trip on the ferry back to Townsville. With good caching by the foreshore and the refreshing coastal breeze, it was caching by scooter on the paths till my phone battery ended and off to set up camp for the night. Warm, tropical, and chirping gechos, I do love the geckos!
Finished another long trip around Australia. The 6th. Next up to Townsville to grab the Palm Island LGA. Only 2 LGAs to complete Australia.Firstly heading back south for some Canberra time.TFTC. Another day scooting (motorbike) and caching.A couple of long hikes to see views, koalas and the old WWII forts hidden in the hills.A ferry back to the mainland was followed by electric scootering along the busy Strand walk doing caches, ECs and ALs.A nice hike with great views.
Thanks for putting a Cache at this Location. Very nice walk up to the fort with really cute Koalas on the way!
Together with team Saturnus on tour through Australia. Cache was quickly found. TFTC
10099 - 11:50Together with team IkZie.Searching for a bitt but successfully found Thanks for the cache
We searched a lot but couldnt find this one. The koalas were so cute (if you havent noticed yet I ) and the fort really interesting!
Ohh what a mess I made of this oneSpent 40 minutes rock hopping looking for the steel rod.My that was well hidden to the green ants had feastThe burnt sentinel h helped in the endRight turn clide and force your way inFinally found my rock but didn't see a cacheSpent about an hour even went down the bottom and circled the rock Quitters luck kicked in as I walked away I spied something I missed on the way in Bingo signed the log.
I started getting nervous when I couldn't find the 3rd spoiler clue.Solo caching is fun (:
Found with LJB54 after deciding to use the long weekend and the cooler weather for a trip over to the Island for the day.Saw three koalas and after exploring all the historical sites on the way up the trek eventually made it to the top. Took in the outstanding view at the building nearby and then started our search. After reading the description and a bit of to and fro at GZ soon made the well hidden find. Added our names to the log and did the best we could replacing the log.An FP from us for providing the motivation to get us to this beautiful spot** SPOILER** It is definitely there but probably closer to 30m along the ground. If you walk beside the large green lichen rock on you RHS look for the burnt timber sentinel guarding the rocky camouflage. If you stand on the rock with the long length of embedded rebar you are practically at GZ but maybe gone a little too far
We have seen a baby koala and mum today. It was so beautiful. I could have been there for hours.
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.The koalas... were hiding well today, only one could be seen.... After the ascent to this historic site, we quickly found the tin in the bush....Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from SwitzerlandPS: Translated with the Deepl app

#7245Found with Samuel737. Were staying on the island for a week (hopefully!) Today in a lovely but a hot day we decided to let go a dear travel bug friend. He is a samurai pirate but it's nice. He traveled with us from South Australia to New South Wales and now Queensland. We wish him very nice future travels around the seven seas. Like it was destiny, we also found a new German travel bug, so the adventures continue! Good luck, samurai pirate!
Great day, great adventure! TFTCWe left a travel bug picked up on Rottnest Island. We look forward to seeing its travels!

Departed Melbourne several weeks ago now and have been travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully ), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel.
Finally made the northern warmth and the Cape and we have loved every minute of it now we are on our way home again and having many more adventures as we slowly travel south.
Today I have my geoTowVehicle booked in for a service after all the driving over the last few weeks. Whilst it's in the shop MuggleWifeDoes and I decided a trip to Magnetic Island was a great idea and so off we went.
I was already tired and worn out from wandering all over this mountain and then I saw this hide, sure I can do this, here I go again.
It wasn't all that bad, once I got to the correct level
**Thanks for placing this cache cassowary**

Really enjoyed the walk. We ended up walking many of the tracks today and saw lots of wildlife. Fascinating peice of Australian history. TFTC
Apologies for the late log here (06.01.24) but I've had a busy time since getting back to the UK.A literal highlight on a wonderful day on the island - Koalas. An awake Koala! Stunning views Disney would be proud of. History, drama, lovely weather, iffy phone signal... A FP+1 for the experience here, which was so good I made it my GC8FAVE location as it had all the Wow Factor I need in a cache. Now, the cache. It took *a lot* of zigging and zagging, clambering and climbing, and detective work in past logs - the last ones I could see where DNFs - to locate, which meant when I did find it my smile was that bit bigger than even the location would lend. In a word: Awesometacular! TNLN-TFTC!SP (UK) on an epic trek right around the world.
Cache is still there. Found no problem, though the log is full and a bit old. Next cacher could bring a new log if here before any of the local cachers looking to maintain this oldie.
Abit dangerous this one, avoid if you don’t like green ant bites or cliff jumps
The next time I have time (or am without the family) I’ll check on this one.
Please do not log a needs maintenance on this cache as it’s the oldest active cache in the Townsville region and doing so may lead it to being archived as the CO doesn’t appear to be active.
If it is missing I will replace it to keep the history (and fantastic spot) alive.

Such a beautiful location with amazing views, just a shame we couldn’t find the cache.
There appeared to be no geo-trail so finding a way down was difficult. Kploz managed to find a nest of green ants though that thought they would take a bite or two.

Lots of work going on by National Parks. And too many muggles. Needs to be checked due to new tracks been laid by NPQ. Did see some koala's so worth the effort
With Old Man Hands over Maggie for work and having a day off today he decided to do the forts walk. Cache found in good condition.
Day 6 of the annual Crooked Clan North Queensland Christmas Celebration Catch Up with my in laws. Today is the first full day on Maggie.
After a full day exploring the island, the last order of business in the coolness of the late afternoon was a walk to the Forts. Whilst the rest of the family were more interested in seeing the koala's and dawdled as far as the first gun emplacement, I was pretty keen to explore all the fortifications and also grab the Adlab, plus the bonus and this old cache.
TCC505 was keen to get some spectacular photos, so he and I powered ahead. Having spotted a koala and completed the Adlab, we arrived at the final observation tower. Right at last light, TCC505 headed to the top to grab some photos and I headed off track hoping for a quick find on this cache.
It took a bit longer than I had hoped but soon enough I uncovered this old cache. Very glad to put my name in the logbook here.
The last part of the walk out ended up being in the dark, but at least it was cool!
Great spot for a cache. Many thanks, cassowary.

Looked for about 20 mins and couldn't find anything. Lots of glass around, it could have been sabotaged perhaps
What a hike but well worth it. Beautiful views and great history. Dropped a trackable and awarded a favourite point TFTC
So cool when you find a cache this old. Add in three koala sightings and clambering over war time bunkers, and you have a recipe for a fine day out. I went up from the bus stop, then down to horseshoe bay. It’s a good, easy to follow track, took about three hours all up. For me, the co-ordinates were almost perfect, so a quick find. As a bonus, I didn’t even get scratched or stabbed by the vegetation. What a ripper this hunt was.
Caught the ferry across for a day trip on the island. Caught the bus to the start of the fort track. A have seen 4 koalas on the way to this cache. So have had a pretty amazing day. Some good views from up here.
Cache was an easy find. Log book is pretty full, so will need a replacement.
Thanks for placing.

Saw a snake next to a cache yesterday so has put us off a bit from randomly bashing through the bush. Enjoyed the walk though.
On our trip north, we had the opportunity to spend the day exploring magnetic island. The weather was perfect, perhaps a little hot, but no complaining here since it is a sunny day with totally blue sky.
We took a walk up to the forts and enjoyed reading the history on our trip up.
After that we took a short walk through the bush to this one where we found everything to be in order and we stopped to sign the morgue.
Thanks for maintaining this old one cassowary

Old caches never disappoint and this one has it all. Interesting history, dynamic views, a decent walk, koalas, big container and a make-you-earn-it old school GZ. Awesome cache! Thanks cassowary.

Day 17 of a 3 week holiday driving from Canberra to Townsville and back to attend the Mega. Today was attempting to finish all the caches on Magnetic Island. I ended up with 2 DNFs and 3 did not attempts. Otherwise a successful day with some pleasant and enjoyable walks. Two Koalas sighted plus some bird species I hadn't seen before. This cache took a few minutes to zero in on. Great views. TFTC.

I was hot and tired and uninspired and after a half-hearted look I was ready to concede on this one. Then M had a look at some previous photos and compared those with the rocks we could see and gave me the impetus to venture further into the scrub. Always good to find an older cache.
If someone could bring a new logbook and a ziplock bag on their visit, that would help keep this cache alive.

With great excitement we headed to Townville for the for the first FNQ Mega - we were very curious to see how much it had changed since we lived there pre-caching.
Today we headed over to Maggie with Pprass, the primary goal was to do the AdLab and have a look about. It was supposed to rain but it hardly bothered us at all in fact it made for cool walking.
Thanks for contributing to the fun cassowary

Took a while to get to the right spot, but it was Chad who eventually found the hard to get to spot in the rain and the wet undergrowth.

Over on Maggie for a few days and the weather isn’t looking great so we decided to get up early and if it wasn’t raining then we would do the fort walk! Wow, we thoroughly enjoyed the walk. We started in much cooler conditions but knew that the rain could come at any stage, just hoping it would stay away until after our walk! Unfortunately no such luck! It started the drizzle on our return, then it pelted down and we returned extremely wet but cool!
Male membsec stood on a large boulder and stated “it’s 10m down there”. Lady membsec then found a way down but a little further to the left than where male membsec was pointing. Signed on the front of a full damp log book.

As part of the CacheQLD committee I am here working, caching, catching up with friends and generally having a fab time. Some awesome puzzles up this way and some tricky and adventurous hides! Awesome experience! Great location for this cache . The history and the views. Thanks for keeping an oldie alive!
This one was great fun. We started our search and were coming up with nothing. Then we came across chooknchunk who we could tell were cachers! We had all sorts of dramas while trying to locate the cache. I stepped in a nest of green ants and got bitten for the next several hours in all sorts of places! We had to leave early because kids were getting tired, but chooknchunk kindly put our names in the log. TFTC
What an absolutely fantastic day of caching. A day of caching which included Willis007 and Gcoven and where we had organised a day trip to Magnetic Island, (to see where they make all the magnets). I had organised a topless ride for the day to add to the fun, it was then named the “JALOPY”, however, we got more than we bargained for there. The Jalopy was a Suzuki heap, your typical was a typical island car of the 70’s, which is probably when it had its last service and road worthy check… the fun in that thing alone today was priceless.
The area around the island was just fantastic and the walks brilliant. We managed to see a couple of Koala’s sleeping in a tree near a walkway. Some great birdlife and some stunning beaches.
The caches were a lot of fun and we managed to grab the important ones for us and a few others as we passed by. Thank you to the CO’s for the hides and the continuing maintenance of the caches. We signed all logs and replaced as we found them and had a fantastic day.

We flew up from Western Victoria to Townsville last week for the Mega and stayed a few extra days to explore. Today was the last full day of our holiday, and this was the target cache and location for the day (well really for the whole trip).
We caught the ferry over and then the bus to the base of the walk. It was warm and humid but we took our time, enjoying all the views and historic remnants along the way. Even saw a koala in a tree close to the track.
Up at the fort, we started to try to locate the cache. We were joined by Thielfinders and our search was interrupted by the green ant dance when we looked in the wrong place. With a PAF to help us get a little closer, Chunk eventually got his hands on this well hidden cache.
This was a fabulous area to explore and we ended up spending quite some time exploring each structure in the area. We didn't have time to explore the other little towns on the island, but we left very satisfied that we had made it up here.
TFTC cassowary. Good to see this golden oldie cache still going.

Gcoven, chamad and myself had always said we would do a tour of Magnetic Island while we were here for the MEGA. Today was the day!
After attending Bugs Birthday Bash we boarded the ferry and headed towards a very beautiful Island, it showed us all it had to offer today - black cockatoos, koalas, stunning views, amazing monoliths and some beautiful trees.
After completing the great lab, we had learned a great deal about the forts up here. After taking a break in the shade, we enjoyed a lovely cool breeze before heading down to grab this cache. It took a bit for us to find the right place to search, but once sorted, the cache was quickly found.
Thanks cassowary for placing and maintaining the cache here for us to enjoy.

MEGA Trip - Day 6 - Magnetic Island
Assembled the full MEGATRON crew (bella at waggy, dahumbug, tardis0061, crash2079) for a wonderful geoTour around Magnetic Island, organised by TikvaNZ. Another early start, to get our car loaded on the 7am ferry.
After an amazing circumnavigation of the island on a Aquascene charter with 20+ cachers calling themselves Mega Pirates, we raced around the island by car to grab as many more as we could before our 6pm departure ferry.
Enjoyed the walk in good company and spotting a few koalas along the way. Always enjoy collecting another old cache. Thanks for bringing us here to enjoy the fabulous views.

Most easily the best cache of the day.
After being on a charter boat earlier we soon had a little bit of time to find some land based caches and this cache was the first one on our hitlist.
Not doing any research before hand I was absolutely blown away by how awesome this cache was.
This was probably one of the best experiences that caching has given me.
Being time poor before needing to be on a disembarking ferry,we set off at a great gust of knots, but…but…
The awesome forts still in pristine condition …
The awesome hike up the hill…
The view from the forts…
**seeing a young koala on the way back down was rad**
Probably got way too many photos to share on a log…
Thank you so much for bringing us here

Well done Townsville and Charters Towers of qualify and variety to go with the Mega.

A great day out on a private geocaching boat trip. The skipper got us close and we did the rest. Nice to find another oldie. 24 cachers on board so the logs signed as X for the Maggie Pirates. Good weather and seas.
Nice walk and great views out to The Forts which are also in good condition for their age.
Extra special to see a Koala on the way back and show some others.

A day trip to magnetic island today, what a beautiful place! It was hot day but the breeze was very welcomed.
This old cache was a target for the day once we decided to do the forts walk. It was a really cool place to check out and provided some awesome views of the island, very well worth the walk up.
We got to the top of the track and saw a guy head into the bush, I headed a different way and quickly realised I’d gone the wrong way. JDavs called out from the viewing platform to go and follow the guy in the bush as he had found the cache. I got closer and he stood up and we realised it was Beardman75!! Funny who you run into! Beautiful location for a cache, adding a FP. Tftc

Beautiful location for a cache, adding a FP. Tftc
Day four of our Townsville mega trip. Today iPlod65 and I headed over to Magnetic Island for a bit of tropical island experience. We hired motor scooters and zipped around the island grabbing caches, coffee, gelato etc. A lovely day.
No luck for me here. I searched for about 20 mins without success. IPlod thought I might have fallen over the edge at one point. Time to move on.
Thanks anyway cassowary

What an effort. Good to find this one. We had seen this oldie on the map, and coordinated its find with the nearby adventure lab. We did however miss the cache in the car park (doh). It was a great afternoon and the kids enjoyed the walk up to the forts and clambering through the remains of the structures. When it came time to find this cache, I followed the map along a little geo trail for a bit, then started to descend a little, gradually counting down the metres. Lifted a nice sized rock to find the old pvc tube. The log book surprisingly was a little damp and quite full, but I found a spot on the front page nearby some familiar names. Seems everyone is in town at the moment. Thanks very much for placing and maintaining this cache cassowary. Cheers
This was one of my top priorities for this trip and it is great to be able to claim a find. And what an amazing spot. I love it up here. I ran into Davinells and had a good chat. Thanks for the cache
An excellent cache, and an old school one too. Great to see it still here some18 years later. And what an excellent GZ this is. Stunning views. No problem finding the stash.
After filling in the morning doing the five Bay caches with Geoturtle37 Phetlern and micaparamedic we had a bit of a rest while waiting for the bus to try our luck at the Adventure Lab here and of course anything else that popped up. We really enjoyed the history along the walk and could not even begin to imagine what it would have been like to be here during the war. We were even lucky enough to see a couple of Koalas and wallabies along the way Once we finished the Adventure Lab we headed off on a short walk to try our luck at this one. We were starting to think we may not find this one but some other better eyes than ours looked where we had and spotted the hide, so we were able to get our name in the log.
Many thanks cassowary for a nice hide in a fascinating part of the world.

It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips and a wonderful Mega event. Managed to cache with loads of different people throughout the long weekend - such a fun way to cache! Have signed as SCG, X, Snag, Capital crunchers, NRC, Nibletricecakes, Minifigas, Minifig or some combination of the above! Albida managed to make the find on this one. Thanks to everyone in the region for the top quality caching. Appreciate your efforts planting and maintaining these caches.
Today's adventure was a trip to Magnetic Island. This was a nice walk and we managed to spot a koala. TFTC cassowary.
Day five and Thursday of the big Townsville trip for Fangsoki, Crew 153, 1MinnieMoo, Pprime and myself. This morning we woke on Magnetic Island and would be returning to the mainland. But there is time yet for some more geocaches. Maggie has been extremely high on my to-do list and I have been thoroughly enjoying my visit. And while here, this geocache was perhaps top of the list. You'd think it would've been first when we got off the ferry upon arrival, but an early morning was preferred for the longer walk to beat the heat.
We awoke early to tackle this walk before even breakfast, setting off from the carpark at about 06:30. It's going to be a ripper morning jaunt, when I now it'll have some fantastic views, an enjoyable walk, plenty of history and a hecka old geocache. As we trod along, the day sure warmed up and it's a respectable track to get along and up.
Arrival at the Forts area provided a lot to take in. I'm somewhat uneasy around even historic military infrastructure, but could deeply appreciate the tactical positioning of this post. I took some good time to explore the various detours. And in a calm, peaceful morning, the views were simple spectacular - right on brand for Magnetic.
The engineering here too was of interest. Blasting away some rocks, building others back with concrete to hide various buildings. There was plenty of reason to pause and enjoy being in such a place.
But onto too, the old geocache. Thankfully two in the group had found it before and could assist with where to go. Being overgrown didn't help as I was in front for the push through the green-ant laden trees to GZ (no bites, thankfully!). The co-ordinates were spot on and I made a quick find. Oh, what a gloriously old geocache, ina gloriously old location. Just before 08:00 the logbook was signed and we made our way back.
Magnetic Island has truly grabbed me and I can only imagine how many adventures await here that simply won't fit on this trip. Finding this geocache was both a must and a highlight, so I am glad we did. It was very nice to return to the car (with a koala sighting!) and head off for a filling breakfast. Thanks for this geocache, and keeping it going for so long, cassowary

Brilliant cache
The views from here were great, and I managed to see two koala's in the wild while walking up the hill.

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

We made it! What started as a pretty easy walk was touch in parts near the summit. The views were great, the forts were cool, and of course we were happy to find an old cache. It took a bit of searching but we were not leaving with out the find.
Thanks cassowary
A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 7. Townsville Mega section Day 7. Today was the first big outing of the Townsville leg of this trip. I joined Nibletricecakes, Gliss!, Smitten Granny and Cosmonaut97 for a day trip to Magnetic Island. It was an early start, but pleasant ferry ride over. First activity was the walk up the Forts hill for the Labs and a few caches. This took us till late morning, so after a few caches around Horseshoe Bay, we had lunch and continued caching, targeting some nice old caches and solved puzzles. Our return to the South side of the island took us to a nasty pier cache where we failed badly before lining up for the ferry home. We were all ready for dinner and bed after a fantastic day !
The hill hike was a highlight and it was fun to head over to the edge for this old cache.
Thanks for the cache cassowary

Fifth day in Queensland and today we had book the ferry crossing over to Magnetic Island, we had Gregg filling the spare seat in the back of the 4WD, just the one day to try and fit everything in, we didnt get everything but we never do!
This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!
Thanks for the cache.
