Gate was open, track rough but its alright Tftc. *watch for snakes, saw one squashed on the road near the entry
Well there was an event I saw published in Bordertown hosted by Roaming Howie and since I was able to have 4 days off I decided to head over to attend the event and then to also do a few of the On Ya Bike series to finish off my D/T loop.
Throw a few oldies into the mix for my Ausmer grid and it was going to be a busy weekend with lots of Km’s.
So after attending the event, finding the ones required on the OYB series, surviving the heat then wind and having a good nights sleep last night today is a new day.
After checking my map I realised I had missed a challenge series yesterday so I came back up this way to find those ones.
I’m now heading back in the right direction with a few hours delay.
Collecting caches that I come past as I have a bit more time on my hands today.
A nicer day today with the heat turned down a bit.
This is one of the caches that I targeted on this trip as I needed it for my Ausmer grid.
A nice little drive in park near this one.
Soon located this one and it had water in it.
Dried it out the best I could and sat it upright as the cap doesn’t fit as good as it did.
Another oldie that is still in play.
Big things are continuing to happen! Are you joining the fun again in 2023?

followed the game trail to the cache. quick find. The only wildlife i saw was the spiders in the webs i had to clear out to get here.
Left with Mogni the day before Christmas to go down to Mount Gambier for Christmas Day. Then on the 27th left for Victoria. Plan A was to go to the Ottway Rangers, complete the Geo tour in Ballarat and then head to Geelong and take the Queenscliff ferry over to Sorrento then grabbing new LGA's on route to almost the New South Wales/Victoria border and the old 2001 cache near there. Also attending a community day event, a CITO and a couple of other events as well. Then head in to the high country and come back to SA in 11 days. Things didn't go to plan. Turns out that one of my almost new tyres was defective ( side wall blown out ) and blew in the ottway ranges on a narrow road in the rainforest, Drove to Melton to stay overnight and get a new tyre there, tyre machine broken and the other 5 tyre companies not open so off to geelong for a new tyre ( and some caches on the way and in geelong ) . The event we where going to attend in geelong didn't turn out, he was late by ALOT to his own event. Then to ballarat to same day since we had a b&b booked for the next few nights. Planned on getting the ferry at 1200 and ended up on the 400 pm ferry but we did attend a event and CITO in geelong. Then we drive into the rear end of a thunder storm with forecast 20 mm dropping for the next few days. Cancel the high country and change targets to letterbox D/T for fizzy grid only using letterboxes and same wirh the multi fizzy grid plus fizzy grid only using victorian caches plus any challenge caches we where near. Plus getting a few more victorian 2001 caches. And finally any caches that had 40 more more favourite points. Only got soaked to the bone for a couple of days but the water on the tracks was noticeable. On the return home tried to get the rest of the missing LGA's around the Melbourne CBD i missed in the last mega. Still a fun trip was had if not the planned one.

Went for a drive with Jack and Purrfect Di. Found some caches!
thanks for the smiley Barryd_SA and to Hurtle for maintaining it , this was one of them!
Took a few circles in the bush to spot it, but almost a drive by today.
Happy 6th day of Christmas! Avoid germs - avoid people - cache the countryside!!!
All logs stamped by team Mattycat this week include JacktheMonkey and Purrfect Di.
The great Southeast Saunter with Anymules down to the Millicent area to find caches associated with the postponed GV2020 mega. But with leave organized and accommodation booked the caching trip was not postponed! [^]
Day 10: All good things must come to an end. [^] Today was travel home day but of course there was always the chance to find a few more caches on the way.
Wow, a huge Conservation Park with only one cache. May have to change that!
The cache was a quick find as the gate was not locked.
***Thanks Hurtle for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Heading south today to escape the hot weather .
It looks like it's been awhile since the gate was closed, so we drove near to GZ before setting off on foot for the final few metres .
Took us awhile, but found it eventually . TNLNSL.
Must come back when the weather is more favourable to explore this park further [^].

This afternoon with a work Christmas party in full swing, I made the early escape to travel down to the south-east for another weekend of cave diving practice, and meet some Geocachers on their December promotion for GeoVenture2020. With some more time than usual, I decided to take a detour inland past some oldie geocaches to find, and converted a DNF to a smile. Despite my leaving early, I somehow arrived quite late at my Glencoe accommodation that night.
This was an interesting area, and clearly forgotten about judging from its lack of upkeep and visitors. The gate was open, and I drove my jeep in along the tracks to just near GZ. I walk in, and it still took me 5-10 min to find this large-ish cache. The logbook was slightly damp, but otherwise still ok and usable. It was nice to have found this 08/2004 oldie also. Thanks Barryd_SA for placing the cache, and to Hurtle for continuing to maintain it.

TFTC. We were camped at Tintinara and looking saw that this cache would fill one of our required Ausmer/Jasper dates. Took a drive out here and walked to GZ from the open gate. A pleasant start to the day.
Found with the GV2020 committee heading down to Millicent for another weekend of event organising...
We detoured off the main road to grab a few more remote caches...
There were a few kangaroos jumping across the track in the park taking advantage of the cooler morning before the day heats up...
Took TB to move on...
Thanks for keeping this cache alive, Hurtle

Spent the day exploring the Boothby Conservation Park.
Loved the huge round rock formations out here, once I found them.
Having a Travel Bug with me, Gandalf was eager to part ways when he saw the impressive rocks.
After stretching his little legs, quickly finding a suitable walking staff, he mumbled something about, 'sensing a presence of something interesting', then bade me farewell and off he went up into the rocks.
I got a few pics of him before it was time for me to move on.
Took nothing from Cache and dropped TB in.
Cache Maintenance Required:
Cache container had water in it. (I dried contents in sun for 1/2 day, whilst exploring)
Base needs a bit of sealant I suspect and top of container needs to be trimmed to be 'level', so lid can firmly stay on snug, preventing water also getting in.
(Need to use a hand/hacksaw to do this, as it is approx. 100mm across - poly pipe)
Rest of container is fine and should last for a long time easy out here, once top and bottom maintenance done.
New Note pad also required if the old one has perished after being semi-dried out.
Thanks again for the cache Barryd_SA.

We were camping at Salt Creek for Xmas and after a few days of relaxing, it was time to get out an cache. We thought we would check this one out and look at the camp site. The cache was found easily enough and is in great condition. We were surprised it hadnt been found for so long. We continued around the park on what was a very unloved track and found a very unloved camp site. Unless you really enjoyed roughing it, its probably not your thing.
Thanks for the cache Hurtle and Postiegirl

I was told there was a great camp ground down this way, so decided to take a nice drive on a beautiful Sat to do some exploring
I found the camp site... wow its sooo secluded, you would only camp here if you really wanted to get away from everyone and everything and not have anything you want to do... Was a nice area.. there were some awesome rocks around to just sitting in the middle of nowhere.
Thanks for the cache and bringing me to this area Barryd SA

Considering how long this cache has been out in the wilds it is in amazingly good condition. If you have hay-fever do not do this cache in spring. SL TNLN TFTC
Enjoyed looking and finding it. Though contents wet due to rain we have had. Field Finders
The gate was half open, so I parked the Hi-Lux at the gate and took off on foot to enjoy a pleasant stroll
'Tis a beautiful place for a stroll at the moment.
Lots of greenery after some mid-summer rains
A short detour from the easy to follow track soon got me to GZ and I found the good sized cache.
Inside was a bit musty, but not wet
The problem with containers in this countryside is that on cold winter nights condensation gets inside [:o]
Unless any container is completely sealed, it will always become damp !! [:o]
Thanks for the cache and the walk

The gate was only held closed with a piece of wire, so we took the Hilux in to within 30 odd metres and strolled over for the find. The log book is dry now, but has evidence of being very wet. A watertight container would be beneficial here.
Thanks Barry and Beryl.
Thanks Barry and Beryl.
Warm day for cache, nice find, cache was full of water empty out water and try to dry out cache, started an new log book ??
Wow! A conservation park you can drive in [:o]. Without realising there was a gate much closer to the cache, we entered from the far eastern corner and followed the perimeter road.
The cache coords were spot on and I was able to walk right to it. Unfortunately the cache has suffered from not having a water-tight lid and the contents were all soaking wet, especially the logbook. The best I could do was put it in a new(ish) plastic bag and hope that has stopped it from getting worse.
Thanks for showing me this place Barryd_SA. It’s been a while since I found one of your caches [^]. We’ll have to come back here and explore this place some more anther time. Cheers

Thanks for the cache Barryd SA.
Parked at the entrance as the little I30 would have had strife with the wet conditions. This was an easy walk and find although the contents of the cache, including the log book are very wet. Lots of roos about today. Thanks Barryd SA for the hide!
Gate was open today so drove to within 30m . Found contents a bit damp. Drained water out of cache as best we could. Thx Barryd_SA for the hide.
Log is damp. Water in cache. Stood cache up may stop water entering. SL. TFTC. TNLN.
Log was a bit damp great parl, found just before dusk and lots of kangaroos jumping fence to get into nearby paddock LTB TFTC
Not wanting to destroy the conventional car on the track (and not wanting to phone a friend to get dragged out of the sand), Mr O went for a 500m run each way to find the cache. Scared a 'roo out of his hiding spot along the way, found the cache, scared some other wildlife and finally made it back to the car. Nice spot. TFTC.
Second cache for Webbstar. Interesting hide. Plastic bag a little wet so dried it. Suprised how well park looked considering 2 weeks of very hot days.

This was our second last find for a pretty successful caching day. Very well hidden in the scrub, however was quickly found by Geoparent whilst geokiddy kept running around in circles! Took one of the dinosaurs for the geotoddler to amuse himself with in the car and left a hawaiian keyring. TFTC
Caught my eye pretty quickly, a little confused about the scrubs walk, since there wasn't a track...but hey, we're country people
It's good to see these conservation areas set aside for all to enjoy including the native fauna. We were fortunate today that the gate was open and we had an easy drive to near gz. The well hidden cache took a little while to find, once found we couldn't work out how we missed it first time round.

Nobody has closed the gates yet. I wonder if I had kept going would the track have come out on the other side of the park?
The gate was open today so it was a driveby except for the 20m of scrub from the track. Left Cookie Monster TB. TFTC
Fortunately for us the gates were open again or still. Drove to within 40m. A quick find from there.

Very nice locality, much appreciated. The gates were open so it become a drive-by. Thanks Barryd.
Interesting spot. Cache a bit wet inside. Came accross a family of emus on the way out. They can run fast. TFTC
Lovely part of the world. Wouldn't mind pulling up and pitching the tent somewhere here overnight. Left lizard and took conductor. The cache was pretty wet despite the fact that it seemed well sealed.
Saw an echidna on the drive in. You wouldn't want to run over one of those. Lovely park with heaps of very pretty flowers at the moment.
Found the cache at 1.10pm. Gosh The top was open and spider was inside eeek so let (big one) spider out and sign the log and shut the lid properly so hope it wont happen again. Thanks Barryd_SA for organising the cache and hunt.
Found 12:20. 5th of 12 FFTD. Weekend jaunt down South-east to escape the rat race with chizbeki. If there is a long way into a cache then we are certainly going to find it! . Drove from the North entrance of the park along 8-9kms of sandy/rocky over grown tracks to only discover an entrance 400mtrs from the GZ . Thankfully found reasonably quickly and without any disturbances from the local Joe Blakes. TNLNSL. TFTC.
Found on our way down to the SE for the weekend, lots of BIG spiders around near the cache. TFTC
This was cache # 10 of 17 attempted today. How hard can it be to find a 50 mm pipe?
Well, somehow I made it hard. I eventually found it in a place that I had looked at early on, but it was only after checking all sorts of other places nearby that I came back and found it. Don't quite know how I missed it first time. Thanks for the cache, Barryd_SA.

Drier time so no wildlife evident. Lovely area and since we had towed the geocaravan to the area decided to stay the night. Enjoyed the area by the bright moonlight. Took calculator and leftcollector figurine and pen. Thanks B & B
We came in from the north of the park for this one and found the gate open. Traveling down the track just inside the park we seen a family of 8 Emus, Dad and 7 largish chicks. At the southern end the gate was closed but not locked so we continued on to the cache. Good footware and long pants recomended for this on considering the terrain, not sandles and shorts like we had 0 Took a compass and left a weird ball. Cheers.
Another one found while travelling with Miray. Was out looking for kangaroos and found instead these emus.
Skippy and Lamb Chops visited this cache just before us and left a skippy. I took the skippy and made it up to TB on a voyage round the world, far from Australia, in the search for his mates worldwide.

Second for the day with Elmbeard on the way to Frances. Took a bit of a long way round as missed the turning to get there from Cold and Wet. Gate was closed but not locked so drove up to close to cache location. A great spot - not many flowers in February but saw 6 emus. Took Richary's crocodile and left compass and badge. Thanks B&B for showing us this spot.
Found at 1225.
Gate was open so getting the cache was easy. Not many wildflowers left, but plenty of birds and the occasional roo.
TNLNSL
Thanks
Barry and Berryl.

Third of four caches today (other caches being: Cold and Wet, For Safety Sake. Take A Break, Third Rock from the ....).
Found 05/11/04 (5th November) @ 4:35pm by Paul (Team Stargazer). On my way from Adelaide to Nhill in Victoria to attend the second annual VicSouth astronomy camp. An easy drive in with a bit of water on the track after the rains earlier today to add a bit of interest. Came in from the south gate and left the same way as I was heading towards Vic.
Took: "Goin' Back to School" TB
Left: Travelling cat keyring
Thanks B&B [^]

Found by Mary & David at 1635. We found the gare closed but not locked. Hardly knew where to step to avoid the profusion of wildflowers. A beautiful area and another new place for us. Our thanks to Barry and Beryl for introducing it to us. Took key ring, left leather plait with bells and TB 'Goin Back to School'.
The track I took in was a lot harder than the track I walked back out on, and I only parked 20m away. Wasn't quite dressed for bush bashing in the shorts and sandals. Oh well.
Spotted the prize, removed the broken wine glass for safe disposal. Took a velcro strap and left a crocodile from Darwin. Thanks B&B.

A beautiful spot. All the colours of the garden were showing. Like my 4 legged friend before me, I was able to drive within a few metres of the cache as the gate was open (though the road plant was close by). And yes, there are plants on the road! Stop before the rocks!! I left a calculator and took the key ring LED light. Thanks B&B.
PS..I came in from the north road….Luckily I preceded southwards to Jupiter. I passed the nearby attractions and went in. Could also be known as 4th rock from the…….. Cool! Worth a look to all.
Virgin be deflowered.
I drove within 100 mtrs of this one at 6am this morning and didnt see it on GEO.com [B)]
Team Raider alerted me to its existence, so had to cut across from the coast road on the way home.
The gate was open (WIDE open) so drove to within 50 mtrs of GZ.
There is some rocky bits but nothing that would stop a commodore!
Made a mental note, doing these caches at 10Pm is not the best when a huge "something" comes crashing through the bush at you ! (Still dont know "what" but suspect a Kangaroo ? or a Nutty-turd monster).

I went through this park last year as part of a club 4WD trip. The track over the top of the hill was fun but not serious. Some sharp rocks but with any sort of offroad tyres you should have no dramas. We came in about 31 51.278S 139 50.123E, then followed the track around the edge before up the hill. The cache plots right next to the track we followed.
So if you have a 4WD keep going up the track (nice view), at the top you head south again and can track along the fence and come out along the NW corner.
Hmmm, a remote virgin. Should I go for a drive this weekend? Probably won't have time.
