We had ridden our bikes out this road to the lookout which was pretty amazing. Was looking at my phone to see if we could see what town we were looking at and saw there was a cache here.
A nice quick find. Thanks for placing.
A nice quick find. Thanks for placing.
While in the Tablelands I wanted to visit this oldie. Like others without a 4WD I had to park about 2.5km from GZ. No bother though. It was a nice walk in mild weather.
Great views at the lookout and a quick find. Container and log in good condition but the plastic bag that the log was in is split. Unfortunately my geo spares are back in the rental vehicle, oops! Thanks for the cache

While we are visiting Cairns, we decided a walk to GZ would be in order.
We drove about 1K along the track, and then found a suitable place to park and walked the further 2.5 K along a beautiful Trail.
Looking back over the mountains, we could see the pyramid that we had climbed a few days ago. It was great to see another angle and view of some of the mountains we have been walking around and over during our stay here. This was a lovely walk to GZ, undulating but nothing too steep and the day was sunny but quite crisp.
It was then on to the task of finding this hide.
With updated coordinates, we soon had our name added to the log.
A stunning view!
Thanks Cairns Team.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 54. Atherton to Cairns (again) Day 5. Having accomplished the walk up Walsh's Pyramid yesterday, I was looking for some caches that took less effort. I settled on heading back up the Giles range to get the three remaining caches along the way that I was going the wrong way for last time and a few at national park attractions along the top of the range. I ended the day with the puzzles in valley towards Gordonvale and the multi in Gordonvale. A fun day that got me moving a little bit, but allowed me to recover from yesterday.
The trail up here was a fun challenge, and I passed some mountain bike riders doing th journey as well. The lookout launch point was amazing and I am so glad I took the time to come up here and visit.

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that !
The sign at the turnoff was irresistable....."Gillies Lookout, 4km. Please Shut The Gate...Cattle On Road". What more do I need
I took off up the track, with the HiLux doing what HiLuxes do best...slowly but surely pick a way up. I thoroughly enjoyed the drive up to this one, but was NOT expecting the level of manicure of the lookout area...amazing. A short hunt and the cache was in hand.
View admired, photos taken. Spectacular location and fun to get to. A fav from me for sure.

It was time to check out of Cairns and make our way towards Atherton for the next couple of days. This was our second caching stop of the day, and being a Monday, there was no one else around. Arriving at GZ I headed down to where my compass started suggesting, as Fangsoki noticed logs mentioning coords were out. So back up I went, and walked along the path a little. I noticed something that looked like an obvious geotrail at a likely item and headed down once more. Bingo!
Thanks for the cache Cairns Team.

It would be plain rude not to make the effort to grab this old cache.
1MinnieMoo made the detour .. passing through the gates.. and then slowly up into hillier terrain. I wouldn't say its purely 4WD - but I would not be taking my Corolla up there. We plodded up in the sure-footed Canyonero and parked up.
Silly us - going straight to where our smartphones led us. We then realised via the previous logs it was not there - it was elsewhere. We eventually found the prize safe and sound. I have added the co-ordinates that worked for me today.
Some nice views to be had here. We then continued on our journey to Atherton. Incidentally, this cache is currently the 132nd oldest active cache in Queensland.

Whew! Start of the Wilderness Bike Tour from Lake Barrine. Even the morning tea wasn't enough for the stiff bike ride up the hill to here. Great views though were worth it and looking forward to the downhill ride. The co-ords were about 15m out, and having read previous logs then proceded to look for the most likely place, and a small geo-trail. TFTC
My friend's little 4 year old heard that mum's friend likes "treasure hunting" and so does he. He gave me two of his little toys so I can hide it for someone else to find. Very touched that he is willing to part with his toys and wanted them to be hidden and be found. So today I placed one of his toys - a little red dinosaur in this geocache. If you find this cache, you know the story behind this little trinklet. TFTC, beautiful views and a nice picnic area.
Have to give this one a favourite, despite the coordinates being out by a long way, as previous logs mentioned. The location is stunning. We had a picnic, that would rival any flash restuarant for views!
Rincewind has had a few too many down at the Mended Drum again. He was going on about XXXX again and something called Dropbears. Apparently cute and furry they stalk their prey through the treetops and drop on their heads with their hard leathery behinds rendering their prey unconscious and then they feast. Thank gods the Librarian was here to take him back to the University. He threw Rincewind over one shoulder and knuckles out of the drum. You could hear cry’s from Rincewind as they left... “the bouncing, oh gods, the bouncing!”
We should have come from Atherton a couple of days ago to grab this but instead we came from Cairns today and had a long drive up the range. I think the track is 4WD only but nothing the Pajero couldn’t handle. The views from the lookout were amazing. We found the cache about 10m from the coords and its in good shape. We left a trackable. Surprisingly, another vehicle turned up while we were there. Thanks for the cache
It is Mr TMRs birthday today and we went on a little geocaching tour from Atherton to Yarrabah, Cairns, Speewah and back home. First stop and almost the highlight of the day was the Gilies Range lookout. It was a bit cloudy and foggy in the distance, but we really enjoyed the great view from here. Looking for the cache and finding it was not a prob, our GPS on the phones was about 20m off today, but a bit of geo sense led us to the spot right on. We replaced the chewed on, cockroach infested plastic container and removed most of the brocken stuff from inside. MAINTANANCE DONE on this part. It is now a long rectangular clear plastic box with a clip lock lid and fresh bag for the log.

We love geocaching because it takes us to places we would never have found without it! Driving up this road was quite an adventure for us Dutchies. Never seen anything like this. But we made it all the way up! It was cold with a strong wind. The view is splendid. We would never take off from here though. We leave that for the brave! Finding the cache was tricky. The hint is more confusing than helpful. It made us look at the wrong spot. Finally about 15 mtrs from GZ we found the container. Thanks for taking us up here! FP well deserved for the adventure. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Log a little damp but still useable, don't think hint was very helpful. But not a hard find anyway. Was a busy day up there surprisingly. Spectacular view!
Our hosts wanted to show us this spot so we piled into their 4wd (I sat out of the sunroof as not enough seats with two toddlers). Truly spectacular, best Vista of our trip so far! Had just enough signal and battery to check for a cache. Fumbled in the bush for a bit with no luck but went back after phone died and looked around properly instead of down at my phone and had much better luck. Showed our hosts the cache with goodies inside -dropped their Cairns Taipans basketball 16/17 members keychain and took some change. While signing the log their 18mo rolled the cache down the hill and I literally watched it roll down the cliff and over the edge! My self preservation instinct kept me from chasing it. Fortunately it came to rest in an accessible spot so was able to retrieve. Easily my favourite cache in my short caching career! Tftc
Today we headed east from Atherton to find the caches that we had not completed 2 years back and this was one of them. At GZ we made a quick find. A nice 4x4 trek in and the views at the lookout were fantastic. We dont think we will ever be taking off from here, not into heights!!
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Last day with our rental 4x4, so searched for some 4x4-accessible geocaches on the road from Atherton down to Cairns, and this one was looking god.
After enjoying the great view we cooked lunch on the top before heading down to Cairns.
As some earlier log say, the cache is quite a bit away from the coordinate.
Found on mine and Natta_'s summer vacation in Australia (fleeing the snowy swedish winter )
Many thanks for the cache and greetings from Sweden!

An excellent geocaching day for the family. It was too rainy to stay home!! Fabulous views from this lookout. TFTC.
Love this spot. Cache a little empty so we filled it up a bit. Easy find half way down the track
A long weekend of caching in Cairns and surrounds.
This was a very nice drive along the dirt road, 4WD only.
The cache itself was found 17 meters from the coordinates towards the jump zone itself, the previous log says something about moving it.
Good views
Was not expecting any traffic on the way back, in fact I met two cars going back to sealed road.
Thanks for hiding here

Quick find on a morning cache adventure.. It was a little chilly at GZ today.. Inked the log and took a quick pic before jumping straight but in the warm car.. TFTC SL
checked on the cache after a walk up the Robson's track, container chewed but all safe and dry in it's location
we watched sunset, i cooked the best Spanish beans yet, we camped the night and had one hell of a sunrise was also strangely surrounded by frogs that night. the jump zone had such amazing views and was quite a sight to see, the progression of clours and to watch the shadows shape the land was quite an amazing experience. thanks safe flying people
TFTC. Beautiful lookout. Can't believe I haven't visited it before!!!!

16.20 - On a Geocaching expedition with Walterhellmut and Ingrid to Irwinbank and beyond - REAL 4WD country. found this kwikly. What a fantastic view from up here. Container had small 'nibble' damage in one corner. +/-0. T4TC and bringing us to this spot. Today's score 11/11
Thanks Fullboar for replacing this cache and providing us with the excuse to visit this fantastic spot.
Unlike the more athletic darlek_caan and Fullboar, we drove to the cache site on a very well marked and easy to navigate track. The turn-off to the track is very well marked, although, once on the track you do need to open and close two gates.
With clear weather, the views from the GZ are fantastic.
The cache was quickly located using Fullboar's new co-ordinates and darlek_caan's comments.
Took nothing and left nothing.

Walked up the Robson to the lookout. Great view! The cache co-ords to us to the area off to the side where we looked under rocks etc. Thinking something did not seem right we started looking in the more obvious places and found in. The co-ords we around 10 metres off. Look for a large burnt tree. No need to travel off the track. TFTCTNLN
went for a walk up the Robson Track this morning and finished at the cache site.
as per the previous log this cache no longer exists so i left a new cache not far from the original site.
i have contatced the Cairns Team prior to doing this seeking their approval but recieved no reply at this stage, hope they are ok with this
new coordinates are S17 10.241 E145 41.329
would definately reccommend the walk up Robsons Track

We would like to be able to log that we found it but unfortunately all we found was the chewed remains of its plastic bag. We did however meet up with a local geocacher who noticed we had a GPS and then told us who he was. As he had previously found the cache he knew exactly where we should have found it and agreed with us regarding the remains - we did hunt around the area to see if we could find more remnants but none where apparent. Unfortunately we didnt have a spare cache in the car or we would have replaced it as we have done to previous caches. Note to us... we will have to make some more replacement caches very soon.
Even though the cache wasnt found the day was absolutely perfect and the view likewise. Thanks for bring us to this place.

Had always been put off doing this one by the closed gate but this time after reading other logs and finding gate closed but not locked, we ventured in and were rewarded with a find and a spectacular view down the mulgrave valley. No hangliders about. Log was a little damp but container is in good condition.

Very disappointed - not with the cache, but with the fact that we missed bumping into Spinmeout by thirty minutes on this cache. We passed him on the way out, but did not realise it at the time. As it turns out, the Camels were also on a caching spree on the tablelands this weekend, and did about nine caches either before or after Spinmeout. This cache is well worth the detour off the main road, and is one of the reasons we love caching - the views are stunning, and we would probably never have come here as muggles. Took an Australia keyring, left a Yoda keyring. TFTC.
Found at 9:30am on a Tableland cache raid.
Found quickly as we strolled along the walkway to the lookout.
Kids grabbed 2 bells and we dropped off a TB.
TFTC and the drive in was fantastic.
The views today were hazy but worth the visit.
Thye road is fine for our 2WD utility, but I would not attempt it in the wet.

Been meaning to grab this cache for a while so we took the drive today to look at the view and hunt for the prize. A great drive and a spectacular view. And to top it off a easy find of the cache. TNLNSL.
Not tempted to do any hang-gliding or base-jumping. Geocaching is enough for me. Like the painted rock frog on this road, but nearly got run over trying to take a photo of it! TFTC
Great way to spend fathers day.
I new this place existed but never got round to visiting till today. Loved the view of the valley, shame there were no hang gliders flying.

WOW, really high up, what great views. Checked out the views and then went cache hunting. Took Bag of Marbels and Left Soldier and blue shell
First attempt the gate was locked, but this time it was open. A great drive in, had 4x4 but the road was good and not needed, perhaps in the wet. Some steep parts, so a caravan would be a bad idea.
The view is truly amazing, has to be one of the best in the area in my book. Godson found the cache easily, as did my parents a few moments later.
T: Minicar for godson
L: Bag of marbles
We were surprised by some mountain biking muggles, and discovered that there is a mountain biking track from here - that must be one hell of a ride down!
TFTC, would never have discovered this gem otherwise.

Unfortunately the Gillies View Road was closed - there was a closed sign at the gate, and it was also padlocked. If it's closed now, I wonder what the chances are of it opening with the wet season approaching? This was the only DNF of the day... grrr!
Spectacular view this one.

Now this one did give us a bit of grief. We looked for a turnoff from Gilles Highway while we were going east and when we didn't see one we then looked again going west. Didn't like to give up but couldn't find anywhere that looked right while travelling on the Gilles Highway. Then the penny dropped and I remember seeing a lookout while doing our first cache for the day. Thought it was worth a look and yes the Gilles lookout was finally revealed to us. Thought we'd been pretty slow on the uptake but got there in the end. After opening the gate had to shoo lots of cows off the track. The lookout was stunning even in the late afternoon with much cloud around. Found the cache without any problem though the lid is damaged a little. TNLN. Thanks Cairns Team
The road in is certainly an experience. Up and down with the odd bump here and there certainly not a road to be tackled in the wet especially if you don't have a 4WD. Which we don't. But luckily today the road was nice and dry and we didn't run into anyone coming the other way as there isn't much spare room on the road.
The views from GZ don't come much better. The cache was easy to find which gave us more time to take in the wonderful views. TNLNSL Thanks for place the cache in such an amazing location.

We thought King Boreas would enjoy the views at this cache so we did a quick in out drop.
this was a brilliant view me and dad and the rest of the family enjoyed it. i never thought it would be here at gillies
Came to enjoy the view and said "hello" to our own geocoin while here. What a place! And nice and quiet, with no interruptions. Just as well, as the GPS had a scrambling up and down, like really down, before finding it in such a clever and simple hiding spot. Boy we felt dumb!
Drove in the GC in our Statesman, an easy enough drive though road is steep in parts and gravel loose on hills, traction control got us there with no hassles. Wouldn't recommend it to the timid or those who are precious about their car though. We enjoyed the drive once we managed to move dozens of bovine friends from the path. Some of the poor things were quite put out.
Cache is still damp inside. Took: photo keyring and Marge marble, Left: leather Cairns souvenir keyring with name "Jaqueline" and Australia keyring TFTC, a unique place and clever hide.

I came here on foot as the crow flies starting at the historical bottom gate to the Gillies Highway down at Little Mulgrave. It was a rewarding walk offering lots of magnificent views on the way[^]. We have been here often with visitors from overseas. It is a superb spot. Especially the view down to Goldsborough is stunning!
The way down was much more comfortable. The historical ROBSONS TRACK brought me down to the road.
If you would like to do something for your physical fitness combined with Geocaching, I would propose the following:
Coming from Gordonvale drive up and visit ABOVE THE VALLEY (bluelens). After soaking in the views from that great place, continue up the road for some bends till mark # 55 on the pavement. You can park your car here, where the trailhead for the ROBSONS TRACK is at S17°09.325’ E145°42.091’.
You would need about an hour and a half to follow the 450 m ascend to DANBULLA JUMP ZONE. It is steep in patches but easy to follow, because it has been misused by motorbikers. You will have great views from your way into both directions and be enchanted by the flora that will surround you.

Hi! Since today has been one of the those lovely autumn days that makes me realise how lucky I am to live here, my wife and I went driving to view the countryside. We ended up at the Hang-gliders Lookout, and I stopped by to see if the cache was all right. I found water in it. The log, in its plastic bag, was only damp, but it was growing mould. I cleaned it up and dried it as best I could in the time available, and tried to return it to its hiding place with a slightly top-up position. It really needs a good drying out however, as the mould will return quickly and damage the log.
Cheers, and Good Hunting. Dan

DanielC. Found it just past midday. As I need to walk, being diabetic, I left the car at the gate and walked in. Excellent walk. On a hot day it would probably be better to drive in to the State Forest sign and park there. A point of interest on the walk was the number of old stumps still showing the early timber cutter's springboard holes. Had a nice chat to a couple of bike riders at the lookout and then found the cache after they had left. It is indeed a beautiful spot. It was better, I think, when the hang-gliders had their chalet there. Took tweezers and left photo-keyring. Cheers, Dan

..was going to do this one 3 days ago, but missed the turn off before heading down the Gilles, no turning back once committed...
Didn't miss it today, had a quick look at the Cathederal Fig, then out to the lookout... WOW.
Great spot, therefore great cache (not always the case, but spot on here me thinks) - I loved it...
took plenty of photos...oh and a stubby cooler from the cache, left a geocaching.com compass tab pull thingymabob.

Well we finally managed to get up here to do this cache, which is close as the crow flys but much further by road. We didn't have any logs with us just the coordinates and the cache description, so we hadn't read Team Falling Numerals comments, so at first, like them we wondered if the cache might have been covered up by the cyclone. However after deciding to trust the GPS we finally found it. Cache contents dry.
Still a brilliant view, met a large goanna there too.
Took a world clip.
Left Macdonalds racing car, and 3 workmen.

The road is now open! Access to GZ is via a newly graded gravel road which is passable for all vehicles as long as 2WD's take it steady. A chilly wind greeted us when we arrived at GZ and this prevented us from taking more time to look around.
We wondered whether the cache had been damaged or uncovered by the recent cyclone cleanup works however we were pleased to find it intact and dry. There are two small holes in the lid but we have placed a plastic sheet under them to try to keep the cache contents dry.
Took Romanian coin and left Indian bangals, SL TFTC.

I have been intending to drop in on this cache for a long time as I have visited the spot in the past. However on arriving today we found that the road is closed with several big signs blocking the gate.
Looks like the road past the closure has been recently graded, but it was a cold day and we didn't have time to leave the car and walk the 4 kilometers uphill. So we will have to leave this one to a future date.

Visited this place several times prior to starting geocaching. Straight forward find. Great views with the area undergoing a bit of a facelift. Container was a little damp. Took domino left simpsons marble. TFTC
