Tricky walk

24-Oct-21
Continuing on our beach track, it was quite an adventure, hopefully it was about mid-tide. Easy container to spot. Both logbook and container were in good condition. We are introducing geocaching to friends and one of their boys found the container, he was so proud. While the other one was so disappointed. So many emotions for a little box. Both container and logbook were in good condition, thanks for placing and maintaining this!

Really wanted to find this one so made sure I downloaded off line before we got here. The cache was dry, but I did feel that the track was becoming a bit hazardous especially for us oldies, maybe the cache should be relocated before the slips as a good bit of the track has disappeared. Loved the views of the old wharf and the rocks even so. Thanks for hiding.

21-Jul-21
Out for the day caching along the way. This was a quick find in an interesting place with no muggles about today. TFTH And a great view so a favourite point from me.

01-May-21
What a beautiful spot, loved our clamber up from the beach and along the Old Wharf Road. Pretty narrow in spots but 9 year old was sure footed. TFTC

We had a days 4x4 from Birdlings flat, across end of Lake Forsyth then other tracks to Takamatus stock track (our fav). Spent the night at Okains bay camp with a couple of other trucks. We went for a walk to find the caches on this track before dinner. Sunday was then our day to explore and geocache. Thanks for this cache BuckoBoys.

I have a week of geocaching around Banks Peninsular, currently spending 3 days at the Okains Bay Campground.

Today was a gentle combo bike ride/walk to check out the sights and grab a few caches.

I managed to ride to the first old wharf, and walked /rock hopped from there.

Quick find, thanks

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!

Today we have found the cache "Old Wharf Road - Okains (Canterbury)".

BuckoBoys, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

Greetings from the Netherlands,
de hangijzers

14-Feb-19
Little by-catch while I was on my way to pick up the final prize for solving one of the Okains mysteries. Thanks to the accurate hint it was a very quick find. Luckily the waves were not that high today, otherwise the terrain value might have been a lot higher. TFTC!

20-Sep-18
As a septuagenarian decided not to walk along the old wharf track. Amazing museum and spent a couple of hours looking around Okains Bay.

09-Sep-18
Got a little wet as I walked around but managed to find the cache no worries on arrival at GZ. The picture and scenery was worth getting wet for!!

27-Jun-18
Mrs Rincewind is away in Napier for a few days and I had to get Rincewind Jr back to Wainui by 9am. With the rest of the day free what was I to do? Go caching of course! This was one of 37 finds for the day  Smile (& a couple of DNFs  Sad)

I'd missed one puzzle cache walking along the beach, and the next I'd given up in disgust (is, I couldn't find it), so I made my way along here. This was the easiest find of the day as it had no cover, it was just sitting there on full display. I signed the log and returned it to its spot, but with the obvious cover that *was* behind it now in front.
That done I headed back and found the two puzzles. Then I realised there's another cache one bay over so I raced back along the track, past this cache, to find it. I slowed down a bit when I ran out of track.

Got it! Used to do this walk frequently when our family was young. The road has changed a bit with the earthquake. Thanks for the cache.

20-Apr-18
Out with Jude E and Nosynel. This was a beautiful day and we had the best of tides too. No probs with jude finding this one very quickly at GZ. TFTH and the interesting journey. Cool

16-Apr-18
Found in daylight a bit hairy at time

16-Mar-18
Having found another couple of caches, continued along to this one. The path is definitely falling apart....especially after the cache. Made it through to the next entirely deserted bay which was lush. TFTC x

24-Jan-18
Having climbed up to the "road" for the previous cache, we continued along it for a quick easy find of this longstanding cache. TFTC

20-Jan-18
#142 we would probably miss this great place if there was no cache here. Awesome. Thank you.

18-Jan-18
Great find after spending the day at Okains Bay. The tide was in and the waves were pounding against the rocks. Tftc!

26-Nov-17
Found on a walk from the camp ground with my 3 year old cachelet. He coped with the T value fine, and actually made the find. Thanks to all cache owners for taking the time to place and maintain your caches. BJ25.

Mum and me had a day to go caching - baby was with hubby, so no hold ups - just lots of caches was the plan for the day!!! And luckily we mainly succeeded in getting quite a few off the map! I think the final count was about 40, which is decent given that big days are getting tougher & tougher with the ones near home being pretty spaced out!

Lovely to get out and stretch the legs and make some cache finds too! Smile

TFTC!! Smile

29-Jul-17
Out for a day's caching with daughter, never mind the freezing temperatures at the early start, icy roads, and a bit of precipitation that did not promise a very nice day! It even got sunny at certain points during the day [^] We had great fun and visited some amazing spots in the process!!! Thanks to all CO's for placing great caches for us to find!!!
A 'little' difficult getting to thanks to the recent natural interventions, but we made it!!

Haven't been fond for almost a year. This short walk is really nice, I really enjoyed the waves smashing against the rocks right next to the track.
Cache found easily and all good, the weird thing about it was that the cache note was outside the container for some reason. I put it back in.

Thanks for the cache!

With Toby on board but not talking to Zara yet - we head to Banks Peninsula to explore. Its Sunday, so lets go exploring, we park Zara up and we are off in Toby, with the Seagnoid as navigator/ stop-go man.
Its a great day today and the beach is really busy, with flat seas and great views. Easy find at GZ. Cheers

05-Feb-17
Going to Ashburton with TaybeeDragon to pick up a car and spent the long weekend exploring, one box at a time. And now that we have collected Toby let's try him out on the back roads around Akaroa.

The beach is really busy today!

Oh, no!
My last day in New Zealand before starting my trip back towards Germany... As the weather in Kaikoura was too dodgy for whale watching trips I ended up a day earlier than expected back in Christchurch. Well, at least this gave me the opportunity to visit Banks Peninsula which had been highly recommended to me by other travellers!
Before returning my rental car I went on a sightseeing trip which - of course - included finding the odd cache as well!
I tried to do earthcaches and letterboxes mainly but also traditional caches along the way. Plus two recently published mysteries I had solved.
Now, that I am logging my caches I can't connect my gps to the computer anymore and thus, don't have access to my finds list anymore (as my flight home made new pocket queries neccessary I can't the see 'logged as find' ones on my garmin anymore)... Thus, I hope I don't forget any of the caches I did and that I am logging the correct ones... But I am pretty sure I am 95% right...
While I was in this bay anyway I thought I might as well walk along this interesting walkway. Great views! And hardly any people. The box was a quick find.
**TFTC** says *kinderarzt* from Germany!

Out on a Mad Monday Mission with my buddy TG. He grabbed me early evening and we headed out. We grabbed the jackets and water shoes as plans were afoot. The tide was going to be low at 10pm and a few caches in the area we were heading to. Fun. Nice quick find on a lovely night. Would be nice in the day time I would imagine.

Thanks for the cache BuckoBoys.

JD Scout and I went on a camper van mini break with some muggle friends of ours. They went on a kayak and we went for an adventure.
I really enjoyed this walk. There were great views of the bay and it was a bit hairy at times, due to erosion but that added to the fun. I signed the back of the logbook as all the pages were used up.

26-Feb-16
What a great spot! We walked along the beach & then climbed up to the old road. Had fun negotiating the road, which is just a narrow track in some places. This is a fantastic place that we wouldn't have thought to explore if it weren't for this cache. This was our favourite find of the day. GPS coordinates were accurate & cache was hidden in the obvious spot. TFTC.

20-Feb-16
stay the night on the campground and walk along the beach and the rocks to log the Cache.
beautyfull!!

#2,366: Viewtiful Smiley!
I came to this one after visiting a very nice Waitangi Day celebration in Okains Bay. Weather was great, and I was able to scramble up the rocks from the beach and make my way along the narrow path. Found it quickly once I got there, and took in the view. Thanks for brining in me here!

Found Saturday but no cell phone coverage so waited to log once reached Akaroa. Great adventure. Fisher family pointed out dolphins in bay and reported catching two too small to keep sharks. Parts of track non existent. Liked cache site. Went to end of trail to see what was around the corner.....cliffs!

14-Nov-15
Nice easy find out running. Cheers.

24-Oct-15
Some impressive engineering, and some washaways, must have been an interesting drive. Some waves were breaking up o to the roadway.

04-Oct-15
Easy find once the old road was negotiated. A bit precarious in places. TNLN. TFTC.

24-Apr-15
A foggy day so we didn't see anything of interest. We were pleased to have a find in Okains after our disappointment in not finding the Cave Hunt. TFTC

06-Apr-15
No fish today

05-Apr-15
A nice walk around the cliffs on the old road passing a few fishermen on the way back with a very scant catch with the kids having caught a few dogfish by the looks. Bit of a scare when one slipped just at the narrow point and was close to sliding off the path. GZ for us was reached without incident and cache very quickly found and signed.

Found it while out on a day trip to Akaroa via the Summit Rd and Okains Bay. Lovely wee walk, reminds me of all the other similar walks around Banks Peninsula, the rocks, the sea the salty sea smell. Had the GZ to myself no one to notice what 1eyednbf (1 eyed and proud of it) was up to, quick easy find, TFTC Cool “Lest We Forget”

Found during a caching weekend in the Akaroa Area with Sharkiefan and macpacmum. We were not quite sure wher the track started and drove down onto the beach. First time my new car has been on a beach and I was a bit unsure how far I could go. Macpacmum was all for racing over the sand and climbing the rocks to the track. Sharkiefan followed not wanting to be left behind. Indecision on my part left me far behind. Thanks to the team effort this one was a quick find and I could safely manoever the car off the beach. TFTC
