Got a surprise in the mail today. Ages ago I got told I was to be the recipient of a promotional trackable. But with the mail between here and the US, I was somewhat resigned to not receiving it. But today it turned up - and only postmarked 29 October last year!
So what to do to celebrate and also to get my [WoW: Wrath of the Lich King TB](https://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=8895724) moving for a bit before I unleash it on the world?
Decided on two higher terrain caches in the Sutherland Shire - one apparently being accessible by land from the other. Sounds like a plan.
But when I stopped to put directions into Goggle Maps I noticed I was right near two newly published caches - seems the Frog's latest trick is to publish while I'm driving and can't check my phone! A chance for a First2Find or two.
Got both, then headed for my target caches. Then one Park & Grab before heading home.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
I've had the coordinates for this for a few years, having got them from a "nearby" multi.
Came from my previous find, and immediately the terrain got harder. Quickly spotted a path down and took it, then lost it and started to struggle to make any headway. So I stopped to gather my thoughts and formulate a plan. At this point I'd only gone an extra hundred metres - a third of the way.
Do I backtrack or push on, or try something else? Went for the third option, hoping to find a track if I lost a little more altitude. And that was the right decision. Within a minute or two I found the track, and it took me all the way to GZ. Mind you, at one point there was a bit of rock scrambling - What is this, a T4½? Oh, yeah it is.
Reckon the T rating is pretty spot on. The land route is about a 4 (well the way I took in is), so with the other approach a T5 it's a good compromise.
Once at GZ I looked around and quickly spotted a likely area to search. Not in the obvious place... or in the less obvious place. I must be in the wrong place.. Oh no, there it is.
Completed signing duties and replaced as found. Then decided to take the track I took in as far as I could go. Except for one spot where I got tripped up by some roots - and of course my bad knee finds a rock - it was all plain sailing. Definitely an easier return trip - T3/3½.
Gets a favourite for the challenge and the age of the placement. Great this is still going strong.
Time for one more on the way home.

We then made our way up to GZ and were soon greeted with a sight described in the hint.
The cache was found, logged and replaced whilst we fended off the hordes of mosquitoes.
Our duties done, we quickly retreated from the blood thirsty fiends.
An excellent day out on the water today.
This was my second ever terrain 4.5 cache and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
TFTC!
A little local river knowledge gave me the numbers I didn’t without setting sail. Today I was in the area so hoped fir a quick find.
On the way to GZ I met with a previous finder and checked my numbers.... oops typo would have had me a few metres out so glad I checked !
Following the track from another cache nearby we had a great view of the waterfront houses.
GZ was a cool spot with a good sized cache
Tftc
After finding Shackels Estate, we drove down to The Wonnie and parked near the tennis courts. I had found the other caches along the way to DE, plus my own (Black And Blue) is nearby, so we took a few detours at a higher level before finally following a trail along the water's edge (hmm, sounds like another cache of mine!). Not the bush bash as SE, but enough to give some scratches! Again the hint came in handy, as we had CIH once at GZ. Log was a little damp, but otherwise ok. Replaced then made our way back via the shoreline, checking out the estate across the water. I cycle across the footbridge often, but have never seen beyond the jetty to these homes. Interesting way of living!
Another multi crossed off, and another adventure in the bush. TFTC
At GZ I had some container blindness until I decided to get out and guess what? It was in front of me.... TFTC!
About a month ago i went by foot to find the coordinators for this and Shakles estate. Seeing where the gz was for each i was willing to get there by foot to earn that T4.5.
I chose a good spot to start my bush scramble and found a solid track right to gz!
Thanks for the cache.
This and two other caches on this river were our main target for today. Canary, Alnic, bikerbuddy & I set off from Prince Edward Park in our kayaks. We had a beautiful day for it, warm, but not too hot, and no wind. Very few other people were out, we saw a few small motor boats, and one other group (1 x kayak + 2 x standup paddle boards), so we mostly had the river to ourselves.
We found a nice beach to land at for this one. Nice, but soft - I sank in the mud for the first few steps. We struggled to find access to GZ through the overgrown shrubs. Typically we found a much easier way to get back to the beach.
Canary got to GZ first and went in ahead of us all. I was still making my way over when I heard him call out that he had the cache. Alnic and I fought over the cache (geosportz challenge), then we tried to get it open. That was the hardest part, the lid was jammed on tight. Eventually we got it open, to find it perfectly dry inside.
Log was signed, we noted the coords for the 3rd cache, and headed back to our kayaks.
Thanks
I didn't realise until Canary pointed it out, that the houses along the river have no road access, which is why they all have boats moored. Later, as we were returning to our starting point, a guy in a tinny launched from his house, laden with old wood and a wheel barrow. He was met by a van at the boat ramp, and all his rubbish was loaded into the van to take it away. It seems like a really pretty spot to live, but I wonder if the back and forth along the river would lose its appeal. I wondered what it would be like to have furniture and large electrical goods like televisions delivered.
We landed on a sandy shore close to the cache location where we all began to sink as we walked. But it wasn't far to the bush and we followed Canary in where he made a quick find. A great location. Thanks
This was our first stop on a nice sandy beach.
From here it was a thick bush bash to the obvious GZ for an easy find.
A great adventure in great company with bikerbuddy, Toriaz and alnic39.
TFTC.
Set out to do this series of river caches on the approaching high tide so as to get the help from the current.
Found the sign and obtained the required coordinates. Made our way to land and into the jungle where we soon had CIH.
Got the coordinates for "Breakdown & Makeup" from this container and made ready for the next cache.
Visited trackables getting ready to go to the Qld Mega.
That is the end of the fun part. Please read my DNF log for "Shackels Estate.
Great to get back on the Woronora
TFTC
The hint was helpful and we had CIH shortly. We also noted the half of coords for another cache nearby.
Originally we wanted to do Shackles Estate multi as well but after reaching its WP1 (numbers are hard to read but I guess it's all part of the game) it started raining and we embarked on way back to the boat shed. Will definitely return soon to finish off Shackles Estate and since we will have full coords for Breakdown and Makeup, we'll do that one too.
Thanks Sky Dog for a brilliant experience!
Luckily Tronador was still seated and on the aqua so could relay the info to us. It was surprising how few people had thier GPS with them so 3 of us lead the charge and wouldnt you know the little Garmin phone won out as I discovered GZ first then passed the log book back. Great choice for the final location and I was already really happy I had come along.
Must be doubling or tripling the finds on these old caches. Sky Dog you must be tired of clearing you inbox and reading logs hahaha
Cheers
An excellent start to our WRECK expedition. Due some over enthusiasm everyone headed off into the bush before collecting the required info. This was quickly rectified by Tronador and we were on our way to the well secreted cache.
Participated in the mass log signing and the departed to the next on the list.
TFTC
OK, paddle onwards and we all arrived at this area. The first few people were wandering around looking for the cache so we figured they'd already worked out the WP info and we were onto step 2 to find the container. After we all piled out of the canoes and milled around for a bit, we realised that the first group had the wrong cache description and we hadn't got the WP clue yet!
Luckily there were still 2 people in their canoes to read out the info we needed from the water and it didn't take long then to find the correct GZ and the cache.
Thanks Sky Dog, everything was in good oder and it was lots of fun.

This was cache number two on our journey along the Woronora River as a part of the WRECK event, and after obtaining the required information, we pulled up nearby, and it was off to GZ. It was quite a sight to see so many water crafts and so many cachers, and once at GZ, the cache didn't long to find. I missed grabbing the information for 'Breakdown And Makeup', but thankfully there was a host of others who had them. A fantastic multi, an interesting location, and enjoyable time paddling along the river.
Gratias Sky Dog.
A great day for the first of a number of multies on this event. Great fun with the like minded.
Got some extra coordinates for another multi as well.
Thanks Skydog
Deep Water Estate was first. We all managed to miss the numbers at first however those arriving in the second wave soon helped us out.
Next was Shackles Estate and while the numbers have seen better days we still managed to read them. The question was then which stairs to take and with cachers at multiple landings most of the stairs plus the recently cleared track was used. With so many eyes and hands the cache was quickly found and Breakdown and Makeup was soon worked out.
We continued up to Salinity Now! as we where told it was easier to land there and walk down to the Ruined Castles. On the paddle up we saw lots of good sized fish and bird life including a Kingfisher close up. Thanks to the CO for waiting to ensure a safe landing and a cache find. With the signing duties complete a group of us moved up to the Ruined Castles. Lots of other walls here for plenty of hiding spots. Again the advantage of many eyes and hands paid off with a quick find.
Up The Creek was next. We walked up the good trail up to an intersection to The Needles while some of the others paddled up to The Needles. We initial followed the good track up the hill as that's where the GPSrs were pointing. As we got higher we had a recheck and decided this track was not going to get us down to the river in this direction so we back tracked and cut down to the lower track which got muddier and more over grown as we went until we had to retreat up higher. Once near GZ we realised the river had to be cross but there was no avoid shoes or feet getting wet to get to the other side. After the log signing it was a return to the canoes. (The walk was probably one of the harder parts of the day).
Back on the water if was off to complete Breakdown and Makeup. We spied a nice landing spot and made our way the short distance to GZ where we found the cache after a short search and picked up a geocoin. With the signing complete we teamed up with a few others to complete 40/400. Up the slippery slope we went only to find we needed to be patient with the GPSr as it periodically froze with the poor reception. We had a bit of an extended search and after a few slip and slide came up with the cache from its neatly hidden hidy hole. With the signing complete and the cache re hidden it was a faster trip down the hill (not always on foot)
Once back at the W R E C K start and waiting for a few paddlers to come in we ducked off to quickly complete the nearby Muddy's First cache where we collected a Travel Bug. We also took the opportunity to find talk to a few others for other good near by cache suggestions. TFTC's
This was find #2 on our Woronora River Expedition to Canoe and Kache, and well worth the visit.
We were momentarily concerned whenthe coords for the other multi were not in the lid, then they were found taped just inside the container instead - so the info was noted and off we continued.
THANKS Sky Dog.
Our first Multi on the WRECK event. Most of us didn't read the desciption and bundle up to the bank before realising we needed the clue on the sign back in the water. Tronador to the rescue! Armed with GZ, we walked around and Zal made the find. We all SL and replaced again. Thanx Sky Dog, TFTC.
Could the next person please take 1 or 2 of the pens from here and move them to Shackels Estate?
Thanks,
Caching team were again RockSandra and KoolKath, while I've sent Suparki12 out to seek a puzzle cache in france, without a GPS in his hands: Sac de noeuds à Miribel Lanchâtre. Watered the boat at Woronora boat ramp - behind the high bridge. The old bridge was bit more challenging: Not much clearance left at high tide! The foot Bridge with The Rat's cache we keep for doin' later, then these beautiful real estate area starts which is accessible by boat only. I first knew about it from a student who rented up there... Arrived at the waypoint - men, they couldn't find a smaller font size for the phone number! The kids steered the boat while i did the mathematics - haha took a while, so that we had to turn back again. Landed at the beach, barefoot into the jungle, and a quick find. Well done cache container, everything dry and OK. Was tempted to leave a travel bug, however, was asked to recover the Girls Guides because they did not move on for many months. The other one, I need to drop off elsewhere in the tropics, probably next week end. But nevertheless, this multi cache is a favorite! Thanks, Sky Dog - another quality cache!

Paddling up the river was just brilliant, and because this was the first time up this far for both of us, we were amazed at how many wonderful houses are up here.
Once near GZ for the cache, we beached the kayaks & headed into the former houses, ensuring we knocked before we entered . Soon after arriving at GZ, Mr Us had the cache in hand and the duties were completed.
I'm astounded that there are so many ruined houses on the western side of the river - what a sight it once must of been.
Thanks yet again for a great cache and an opportunity to explore a brilliant location Sky Dog.
TN except great memories.
Cheers
Would love to have seen the other side of the river back in it's day, but judging by the amount of remains near to the cache, it too must have been an impressive area (of course, in the days before Good Guys and washing machines!).
Thanks Sky Dog for another quality cache!
The Hancock Clan
Thanks for the fun we had kayaking around...
Got riverside eventually and soon found the cache, signed the logbook and made it back to the car just as the sun was setting!
Tftc. The whole
Series has been great!
I paid the price when I managed to incur a deep cut on the top of my foot. Lucky I had some antiseptic. Enough of the gore.
Cache was found by ....., signed, returned and we headed off to the next location. BTW - steps by the water were helpful.
Our small flottilla beached shortly here and then headed of for the next one.
Fortunate enough tronador had all the treasure maps (not as the unprepared pirate Alpini) and os this treasure could not hide for long....

Paddling along we quickly came across the relevant information necessary to find GZ.
It's easy to see where these houses once stood as the overgrown gardens are a giveaway, even though they are slowly consuming the brick fencing which once formed part of the boundary.
We beached the kayaks and walked up through the bracken ferns to where the GPS pointed.
Found the cache easily. A great waterproof container. Not long after the Woronora kayakers assembled around the cache to sign the log book.
No swaps but left the Texas Boot TB.

Came by foot, couldn't find a path down so it was a bush-bash down(definetly easier by boat). What a great location, thanks for taking me here, there is so much history here. Found the cache without any problems, contents are damp(I dried as best as I could). Log book is OK and dry. Tried to find an easier way back up, found a marked trail up. Must be used for the rock climbers and abseilers as nearby there is this great wall with pins inserted. Eventually got to the top but was half kilometre away from the car. Again thanks for walk in the bush.

We put in yet again to gather more treasure. The clues on the treasure map were tough but not to this party of experienced pirates.
TNLN Thanks for the wet feet.
Landed on the beach and forged off into the jungle. This must have been a spectacular place to live.

Our crusty trio of river pirates made this one of our last stops on our river sojurn before returning to our home port of Tortuga, arrrr.
After using our cutlass to cut a new track through the jungle, we arrived at the place that treasure be buried. it was I who spied the box of goodies, but sadly it had been sank and was water logged with mould setting in to everything except the logbook, it be high and dry.
A coin was retrieved from this cache.

I used Google Earth to give me a nice view of the cache locations before attempting my land-based assault. Being familiar with the area I realised that this one would be quite easy and so it turned out to be. My GPSr wasn't very cooperative and I had to use the hint, but the cache was quickly discovered. Swapped a screwdriver for a CD and headed off to try Shackel's Estate.
Found this back in mid march...
Worked without a problem...
Went on a boat with our new dog. it was her first time boating and caching... she loved it!!!
Thanks Agg
Interesting location and very interesting cliffs will have to return with some shoes and go for an explore. On returning to the launch site I found it overrun with girl guides learning to paddle. There was one canoe with an overweight women and I really think she was too heavy for the boat. She was sitting in the stern and this little girl was in the bow trying to paddle. The bow was not even touching the water and water was coming over the gunnels of the stern.
I'm reviewing [green]"Deepwater Estate"[/green] for posting on geocaching.com.
This is a worry. Caches in the US have been knocked back for putting information on where to get boats etc. as they are deemed to be commercial. You have to play by their rules so I can't list it.
Please don't hesitate to respond with an explanation if it's been misjudged or after you've amended it to meet the guidelines.
Thanks,
