Was originally planning on coming back to do this one another day but the kayaking was so brilliant this morning we took the extra time to do it and are very glad we did. Collected the necessary information at WP1 and headed off to GZ, love these marvellous locations hidden just out of site from everyone! Made sure to take a snap of the information for Breakdown and Makeup, signed the log (which is a bit wet but still signable - impressive given the age of this cache!) At some stage on this trip between King Tide 2 and here I managed to lose the key to my car so it was definitely the most expensive cache I have ever found but worth it for the experience nevertheless!!

Out caching and kayaking with the very capable Sensible Sis. Had picked up the Coords from the Breakdown and Makeup cache some time ago and have finally had the chance to paddle along the Woronora. A nice little spot to make our landing and the short walk to GZ was appreciated. TFTC Sky Dog

#8580 (4 of 5 today)

Got a surprise in the mail today. Ages ago I got told I was to be the recipient of a promotional trackable. But with the mail between here and the US, I was somewhat resigned to not receiving it. But today it turned up - and only postmarked 29 October last year!

So what to do to celebrate and also to get my [WoW: Wrath of the Lich King TB](https://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=8895724) moving for a bit before I unleash it on the world?

Decided on two higher terrain caches in the Sutherland Shire - one apparently being accessible by land from the other. Sounds like a plan.
But when I stopped to put directions into Goggle Maps I noticed I was right near two newly published caches - seems the Frog's latest trick is to publish while I'm driving and can't check my phone! A chance for a First2Find or two.

Got both, then headed for my target caches. Then one Park & Grab before heading home.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
I've had the coordinates for this for a few years, having got them from a "nearby" multi.

Came from my previous find, and immediately the terrain got harder. Quickly spotted a path down and took it, then lost it and started to struggle to make any headway. So I stopped to gather my thoughts and formulate a plan. At this point I'd only gone an extra hundred metres - a third of the way.

Do I backtrack or push on, or try something else? Went for the third option, hoping to find a track if I lost a little more altitude. And that was the right decision. Within a minute or two I found the track, and it took me all the way to GZ. Mind you, at one point there was a bit of rock scrambling - What is this, a T4½? Oh, yeah it is.
Reckon the T rating is pretty spot on. The land route is about a 4 (well the way I took in is), so with the other approach a T5 it's a good compromise.

Once at GZ I looked around and quickly spotted a likely area to search. Not in the obvious place... or in the less obvious place. I must be in the wrong place.. Oh no, there it is.

Completed signing duties and replaced as found. Then decided to take the track I took in as far as I could go. Except for one spot where I got tripped up by some roots - and of course my bad knee finds a rock - it was all plain sailing. Definitely an easier return trip - T3/3½.

Gets a favourite for the challenge and the age of the placement. Great this is still going strong.
Time for one more on the way home.

I got the coordinates to this one the other day from “breakdown and makeup”. After finding black and blue, I decided to just bush bash the extra 300 odd metres to this one. I found a variety of different tracks that took me around the bend and right up to gz, it was a nice and clear afternoon and there were a few kayakers out paddling away. At gz I searched the obvious spot but came up empty, and after seeing that the last log was a dnf, I was about to call it a day and head back when I checked one more spot and there it was! Very well camouflaged! The log was a tad damp but still signable, tftc

Arriving by canoe, we found a place to land and made sure our craft was secure.
We then made our way up to GZ and were soon greeted with a sight described in the hint.
The cache was found, logged and replaced whilst we fended off the hordes of mosquitoes.
Our duties done, we quickly retreated from the blood thirsty fiends.
An excellent day out on the water today.
This was my second ever terrain 4.5 cache and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A little local river knowledge gave me the numbers I didn’t without setting sail. Today I was in the area so hoped fir a quick find.

On the way to GZ I met with a previous finder and checked my numbers.... oops typo would have had me a few metres out so glad I checked !

Following the track from another cache nearby we had a great view of the waterfront houses.

GZ was a cool spot with a good sized cache

OCW the Bebes and after getting Black and Blue headed for this one. Picked up a trail that led us through to GZ. The trail was quite easy to follow and the coords at GZ were good. We spotted the likely hide and once entered we quickly had the cache. Tftc

I have had the coords for SE and DE since I found Breakdown and Makeup over 2 years ago. Today I decided to make an attempt at these with EverestHigh, using the land approach rather than by water.

After finding Shackels Estate, we drove down to The Wonnie and parked near the tennis courts. I had found the other caches along the way to DE, plus my own (Black And Blue) is nearby, so we took a few detours at a higher level before finally following a trail along the water's edge (hmm, sounds like another cache of mine!). Not the bush bash as SE, but enough to give some scratches! Again the hint came in handy, as we had CIH once at GZ. Log was a little damp, but otherwise ok. Replaced then made our way back via the shoreline, checking out the estate across the water. I cycle across the footbridge often, but have never seen beyond the jetty to these homes. Interesting way of living!

Another multi crossed off, and another adventure in the bush. TFTC

After find the coordinates yesterday and reaching a temperature of 26°C today, we decided to grab a canoe and started paddling the three kilometres creek up!

At GZ I had some container blindness until I decided to get out and guess what? It was in front of me.... TFTC!

Earned the T4.5 going by land which as the CO suggests was quite a steep walk. Luckily I also found the track down as well but it got a bit harder to follow the closer to the river you get. Ended up along the river beach and had to bushbash back in but found the direct track heading back up. What a beautiful location. Thanks for the adventure. TFTC

This cache had been on my list for a while now, but haven't had the opportunity top bring my kayak out with enough time for the whole river.
About a month ago i went by foot to find the coordinators for this and Shakles estate. Seeing where the gz was for each i was willing to get there by foot to earn that T4.5.
I chose a good spot to start my bush scramble and found a solid track right to gz!
Thanks for the cache.

My second kayak venture, and out with bikerbuddy and Toriaz. Canary was here too. Canary had been here before, so helped to expedite natters so we could move on to the next one.

#4,481

This and two other caches on this river were our main target for today. Canary, Alnic, bikerbuddy & I set off from Prince Edward Park in our kayaks. We had a beautiful day for it, warm, but not too hot, and no wind. Very few other people were out, we saw a few small motor boats, and one other group (1 x kayak + 2 x standup paddle boards), so we mostly had the river to ourselves.

We found a nice beach to land at for this one. Nice, but soft - I sank in the mud for the first few steps. We struggled to find access to GZ through the overgrown shrubs. Typically we found a much easier way to get back to the beach.

Canary got to GZ first and went in ahead of us all. I was still making my way over when I heard him call out that he had the cache. Alnic and I fought over the cache (geosportz challenge), then we tried to get it open. That was the hardest part, the lid was jammed on tight. Eventually we got it open, to find it perfectly dry inside.

Log was signed, we noted the coords for the 3rd cache, and headed back to our kayaks.

Thanks Smile

Canary suggested a kayak along this part of the river to find a few caches. We'd never kayaked here before so it sounded like a good idea. The launch site was quiet when we arrived and parked. There was a kayak hire place just across the water from where we began. Alnic39 went across to buy something to eat, and then we were on our way.

I didn't realise until Canary pointed it out, that the houses along the river have no road access, which is why they all have boats moored. Later, as we were returning to our starting point, a guy in a tinny launched from his house, laden with old wood and a wheel barrow. He was met by a van at the boat ramp, and all his rubbish was loaded into the van to take it away. It seems like a really pretty spot to live, but I wonder if the back and forth along the river would lose its appeal. I wondered what it would be like to have furniture and large electrical goods like televisions delivered.

We landed on a sandy shore close to the cache location where we all began to sink as we walked. But it wasn't far to the bush and we followed Canary in where he made a quick find. A great location. Thanks

I had been to "Breakdown and Makeup" on the 6th of August, so I had coordinates for the two on the river.

This was our first stop on a nice sandy beach.

From here it was a thick bush bash to the obvious GZ for an easy find.

A great adventure in great company with bikerbuddy, Toriaz and alnic39.

TFTC,
Set out to do this series of river caches on the approaching high tide so as to get the help from the current.
Found the sign and obtained the required coordinates. Made our way to land and into the jungle where we soon had CIH.
Got the coordinates for "Breakdown & Makeup" from this container and made ready for the next cache.
Visited trackables getting ready to go to the Qld Mega.
That is the end of the fun part. Please read my DNF log for "Shackels Estate.

Decided to extend my usual paddle a little & test a new GPS on this cache. Have been saving the series for a while to do with my wing man - just a little look on a beautiful Sunday morning hight tide. Found the WP and got to coordinates - no problem. Glad it was winter. Don't think I'd like to be wading through the growth in summer - looks pretty snakey. Was a bit of a battle to get to GZ. What a great spot. Pretty dark in there. Remembered I left my tourch on the bench at home. Ugg. Not sticking my hands in there in the dark! Took some flash photos of the holes. Battery went flat. Phone app torch? New phone - no app yet. Oh well. It's not meant to be today. Good excuse to come back again and do the whole series properly.

This was quite an adventure! We hired a canoe in the boat shed and off we paddled. First we arrived to WP1, got the numbers, did the substitutions and then did some more paddling. At near GZ we pulled the boat up on a little beach and searched the area (felt like pirates looking for a treasure.. hang on, we are pirates!!).
The hint was helpful and we had CIH shortly. We also noted the half of coords for another cache nearby.

Originally we wanted to do Shackles Estate multi as well but after reaching its WP1 (numbers are hard to read but I guess it's all part of the game) it started raining and we embarked on way back to the boat shed. Will definitely return soon to finish off Shackles Estate and since we will have full coords for Breakdown and Makeup, we'll do that one too.

Thanks Sky Dog for a brilliant experience!

Cannot believe how long it took me to get around to log these caches found over a month ago! These are definitely one of the most challenging caches I've done. Not only because of the physical efforts but also for the fact that I can't swim..ha ha. Found with Zalgariath and a big group of other cachers. It was great fun..at least at this stage Razz Thanks for creating such a great series.

Wow what a huge turnout at this very physical event. We were all so excited about the prospect of being on the water that we nearly sailed right past this one. Then in our next great move the pack landed and failed to note the required info from the water Razz

Luckily Tronador was still seated and on the aqua so could relay the info to us. It was surprising how few people had thier GPS with them so 3 of us lead the charge and wouldnt you know the little Garmin phone won out as I discovered GZ first then passed the log book back. Great choice for the final location and I was already really happy I had come along.

Must be doubling or tripling the finds on these old caches. Sky Dog you must be tired of clearing you inbox and reading logs hahaha

Stop number two for Steeba, MV and I on our paddle up the river. Having put some clean air between us and the main group we were able to quickly do the maths, search for and find this cache and move on before the main group caught up. Caching in large groups is not as advantageous as you might have thought!

Cheers

One thing that happens on an event day is everyone follows the leader.... Even when we're all paddling and then hiking... Mhhh wrong location.. All aboard on paddles, that's just funny. Next, another little bush bash and many eyes and cache located, TFTC and a great adventure

Day #7 of Dry July.
An excellent start to our WRECK expedition. Due some over enthusiasm everyone headed off into the bush before collecting the required info. This was quickly rectified by Tronador and we were on our way to the well secreted cache.
Participated in the mass log signing and the departed to the next on the list.

This was the first cache that I did on our canoe expedition and it was so funny. We all headed off in a huge gaggle of canoes with nobody really quite organised. (well, I wasn't anyway!) As we paddled madly after the canoes in front, we looked back and noticed a group of us had already stopped and were heading off to look for a cache. !!! Yelled out to those in front but we were assured "we'll get that one on the way back".

OK, paddle onwards and we all arrived at this area. The first few people were wandering around looking for the cache so we figured they'd already worked out the WP info and we were onto step 2 to find the container. After we all piled out of the canoes and milled around for a bit, we realised that the first group had the wrong cache description and we hadn't got the WP clue yet!

Luckily there were still 2 people in their canoes to read out the info we needed from the water and it didn't take long then to find the correct GZ and the cache.

Thanks Sky Dog, everything was in good oder and it was lots of fun.

Our first for the WRECK day. Luckily we still had Tronador and TLM Mum on the water to give us the necessary details for GZ. After a group log signing we all bundled back into our canoes and kayaks for the next exciting find.

I teamed up with Cattledog-81 and club bindi during the WRECK event at Woronora. I must admit I read the wrong sheet and lead our group and some of the following groups astray. Once we discovered and rectified the error it was off to find the cache, and also the other required coordinates, thanks Sky Dog.

Reperio at 0950.

This was cache number two on our journey along the Woronora River as a part of the WRECK event, and after obtaining the required information, we pulled up nearby, and it was off to GZ. It was quite a sight to see so many water crafts and so many cachers, and once at GZ, the cache didn't long to find. I missed grabbing the information for 'Breakdown And Makeup', but thankfully there was a host of others who had them. A fantastic multi, an interesting location, and enjoyable time paddling along the river.

Found as part of attending the W R E C K event which was great event with a huge turn out even more so being winter. The few spots of rain and clouds soon disappeared for great paddling weather up to The Needles. The caches up and down the river provide good breaks from paddling. We soon got the hang of the multis and which ones had co-ords for the other ones. Thanks to Sky Dog for maintaining the caches before the event. It was certainly beneficial to cache as a group as more eyes the better although we did overload some of the landing spots and almost needed Harbour Patrol to direct traffic but it was all good fun.

Deep Water Estate was first. We all managed to miss the numbers at first however those arriving in the second wave soon helped us out.

Next was Shackles Estate and while the numbers have seen better days we still managed to read them. The question was then which stairs to take and with cachers at multiple landings most of the stairs plus the recently cleared track was used. With so many eyes and hands the cache was quickly found and Breakdown and Makeup was soon worked out.

We continued up to Salinity Now! as we where told it was easier to land there and walk down to the Ruined Castles. On the paddle up we saw lots of good sized fish and bird life including a Kingfisher close up. Thanks to the CO for waiting to ensure a safe landing and a cache find. With the signing duties complete a group of us moved up to the Ruined Castles. Lots of other walls here for plenty of hiding spots. Again the advantage of many eyes and hands paid off with a quick find.

Up The Creek was next. We walked up the good trail up to an intersection to The Needles while some of the others paddled up to The Needles. We initial followed the good track up the hill as that's where the GPSrs were pointing. As we got higher we had a recheck and decided this track was not going to get us down to the river in this direction so we back tracked and cut down to the lower track which got muddier and more over grown as we went until we had to retreat up higher. Once near GZ we realised the river had to be cross but there was no avoid shoes or feet getting wet to get to the other side. After the log signing it was a return to the canoes. (The walk was probably one of the harder parts of the day).

Back on the water if was off to complete Breakdown and Makeup. We spied a nice landing spot and made our way the short distance to GZ where we found the cache after a short search and picked up a geocoin. With the signing complete we teamed up with a few others to complete 40/400. Up the slippery slope we went only to find we needed to be patient with the GPSr as it periodically froze with the poor reception. We had a bit of an extended search and after a few slip and slide came up with the cache from its neatly hidden hidy hole. With the signing complete and the cache re hidden it was a faster trip down the hill (not always on foot)

Once back at the W R E C K start and waiting for a few paddlers to come in we ducked off to quickly complete the nearby Muddy's First cache where we collected a Travel Bug. We also took the opportunity to find talk to a few others for other good near by cache suggestions. TFTC's

A great spot for a hide, well done finding such a spot for the cache to reside.
This was find #2 on our Woronora River Expedition to Canoe and Kache, and well worth the visit.

Our first Multi on the WRECK event. Most of us didn't read the desciption and bundle up to the bank before realising we needed the clue on the sign back in the water. Tronador to the rescue! Armed with GZ, we walked around and Zal made the find. We all SL and replaced again. Thanx Sky Dog, TFTC.

The weather forecast was excellent, sunny, 290K, bit windy but fine for river cruising. High Tide somewhen late morning regarding the lag for the upper Woronora River. So we took our new boat, the Arkaroooo, out for the second time. The SkyDog caches of the Woronora River series were in my attention since a while, and I had started Salinity Now and Ruined Castles two weeks ago - by walking down from Barden Ridge. Clearly, the remaining three caches would be done by boat! So today was the day with the goal to complete this wonderful series. We've left out the other caches along the river, as we were not out for numbers, but for a challenge.

Caching team were again RockSandra and KoolKath, while I've sent Suparki12 out to seek a puzzle cache in france, without a GPS in his hands: Sac de noeuds à Miribel Lanchâtre. Watered the boat at Woronora boat ramp - behind the high bridge. The old bridge was bit more challenging: Not much clearance left at high tide! The foot Bridge with The Rat's cache we keep for doin' later, then these beautiful real estate area starts which is accessible by boat only. I first knew about it from a student who rented up there... Arrived at the waypoint - men, they couldn't find a smaller font size for the phone number! The kids steered the boat while i did the mathematics - haha took a while, so that we had to turn back again. Landed at the beach, barefoot into the jungle, and a quick find. Well done cache container, everything dry and OK. Was tempted to leave a travel bug, however, was asked to recover the Girls Guides because they did not move on for many months. The other one, I need to drop off elsewhere in the tropics, probably next week end. But nevertheless, this multi cache is a favorite! Thanks, Sky Dog - another quality cache!

Mr & Mrs Us, and Mr & Mrs H decided to head out on our new Kayak toys today, just for s paddle to start with. After about 5km of paddling, the 2 Mr's decided that we might have a quick run for the last couple of the WRS caches that we have not done.
Paddling up the river was just brilliant, and because this was the first time up this far for both of us, we were amazed at how many wonderful houses are up here.
Once near GZ for the cache, we beached the kayaks & headed into the former houses, ensuring we knocked before we entered Smile. Soon after arriving at GZ, Mr Us had the cache in hand and the duties were completed.
I'm astounded that there are so many ruined houses on the western side of the river - what a sight it once must of been.
Thanks yet again for a great cache and an opportunity to explore a brilliant location Sky Dog.
TN except great memories.

Our penultimate find of this super river series along with with Usat31 and our first one we've done as intended, by boat. What a fantastic paddle down the river, past so many impressive houses. It's a wonder how they furnish, let alone build the properties with no road access, and some have hundreds of steps up a cliff face from the water's edge just to get to the front door! I bet the Good Guys wouldn't deliver a washing machine there! Beautiful place to live though.

Would love to have seen the other side of the river back in it's day, but judging by the amount of remains near to the cache, it too must have been an impressive area (of course, in the days before Good Guys and washing machines!).

Thanks Sky Dog for another quality cache!

Did this one by foot and it was a fairly brutal bush bash. With fading sunlight we came to some very steep cliffs, but made the executive decision to find a way around them.

Hired a kayak and battled the strong wind to the cache site. Got within meters of the site, but area is very overgrown so didn't know where to start looking. Was only wearing crocs and didn't want to get carried away bush bashing. If you're planning to do a few of the caches in this series in a kayak, you'll need a whole day. Better off with a small motorboat - will work out a lot cheaper as well.

The first(?) in a series of caches we found on our Saturday paddling trip up the Woronora river. I staggered behind the group as I tried to negotiate the bush and fallen logs in a pair of flip flops - I didn't want to get my boots wet in the canoe.

I paid the price when I managed to incur a deep cut on the top of my foot. Lucky I had some antiseptic. Enough of the gore.

Cache was found by ....., signed, returned and we headed off to the next location. BTW - steps by the water were helpful.

Under leaden skies we’d launched our boats at the bottom of the tide onto the Woronora river. Tronador had organised a group of cachers for a nautical jaunt to visit Sky Dog’s fine series of river caches and this was first on the list. Whirling paddles sent our little flotilla skimming o’er the wavelets to the first waypoint where the requisite information was perused. In a trice so was the cache. Not sure who found this one – Alpini I think. At any rate all the cache duties were duly completed and the other cache’s co-ordinates secured. We made no swaps here. A nice easy start to the day – thanks Sky Dog.

On a grey and overcast day, a group of kayaking cachers set off to find a series of caches along the river. Alpini, Damo & Sarah, Spindoc Bob, Altaire and myself set ourself the challenge to find them all.
Paddling along we quickly came across the relevant information necessary to find GZ.
It's easy to see where these houses once stood as the overgrown gardens are a giveaway, even though they are slowly consuming the brick fencing which once formed part of the boundary.
We beached the kayaks and walked up through the bracken ferns to where the GPS pointed.
Found the cache easily. A great waterproof container. Not long after the Woronora kayakers assembled around the cache to sign the log book.
No swaps but left the Texas Boot TB.

First cache find on our canoe trip up the river with Tronador, Alpini, Spindoc Bob and Altaire. Facinating to see the old ruins with stone steps running up from the river. Quick find by Alpini. Nice place for a cache. Thanks!

Changed the container to a more watertight one. Hopefully this thing will stay dry now.

Came by foot, couldn't find a path down so it was a bush-bash down(definetly easier by boat). What a great location, thanks for taking me here, there is so much history here. Found the cache without any problems, contents are damp(I dried as best as I could). Log book is OK and dry. Tried to find an easier way back up, found a marked trail up. Must be used for the rock climbers and abseilers as nearby there is this great wall with pins inserted. Eventually got to the top but was half kilometre away from the car. Again thanks for walk in the bush.

It was a nice day on the water for a paddle, I should of picked this one up at the beginning of the day on the way up the river for the rest of the Wonorana series. I will have to do the Breakdown and Make up on another day, maybe get to it by land.

The Cache was quite damp inside with a lot of moisture within the container. The container appeared to be intact without and cracks or damage. I dried it out as much as I could. It may have just been a misaligned lid and the bit of rain that we have had recently.

10.30am with Team Webguy and ABowie.

We put in yet again to gather more treasure. The clues on the treasure map were tough but not to this party of experienced pirates.

TNLN Thanks for the wet feet.

Our crusty trio of river pirates made this one of our last stops on our river sojurn before returning to our home port of Tortuga, arrrr.

After using our cutlass to cut a new track through the jungle, we arrived at the place that treasure be buried. it was I who spied the box of goodies, but sadly it had been sank and was water logged with mould setting in to everything except the logbook, it be high and dry.

A coin was retrieved from this cache.

Cheers

Went paddling with Jonathan (10 y.o. son) today to look for some caches up the Woronora River. Found our way to Deepwater Estate, finding the cache not long after. A very good hide in a very interesting location, our first find from the Woronora River series.

Lovely spot on the river, the cache was a bit soggy. A good excuse to go boating down the woronora.

With the Cheekys and Oddee and The Rats in the boat (LOL) we headed off to the depths of the Worranora. Did this without the help of Breakdown. Were most interested in the ruins and the current houses that dot the river bank. Did my swaps and then sent the others back in as I didnt put the pen away.
Thanks SkyDog for the adventure.

Came by boat with KiwiLegend. Not many visitors come here so the cache looks almost brand new. The contents are still of a good standard and everything is bone dry.

We had the luxury of a guided tour of Sky Dog's caches today, with the cache owner. He tried not to give us (m)any hints - certainly no more than was in the actual hints anyway. This is a beautiful area, and we were very thankful that Andrew offered to take us for a trip, as we would never have got here otherwise. If it had been at home in NZ, we would have been down here with our kayaks in a flash. TNLN, TFTCATGT!

Not being aquatically inclined I decided to try this series of caches on foot. I first returned to Breakdown & Makeup but didn't realise that the cache had been moved since my first visit. Armed with the correct location I made another visit the next day and grabbed the co-ords.

I used Google Earth to give me a nice view of the cache locations before attempting my land-based assault. Being familiar with the area I realised that this one would be quite easy and so it turned out to be. My GPSr wasn't very cooperative and I had to use the hint, but the cache was quickly discovered. Swapped a screwdriver for a CD and headed off to try Shackel's Estate.

Much better location did not have to get my feet wet, just paddled fast and slid up the beach while Geopup went flying of the bow landing in the sand.
Interesting location and very interesting cliffs will have to return with some shoes and go for an explore. On returning to the launch site I found it overrun with girl guides learning to paddle. There was one canoe with an overweight women and I really think she was too heavy for the boat. She was sitting in the stern and this little girl was in the bow trying to paddle. The bow was not even touching the water and water was coming over the gunnels of the stern.

Hi,
I'm reviewing [green]"Deepwater Estate"[/green] for posting on geocaching.com.

This is a worry. Caches in the US have been knocked back for putting information on where to get boats etc. as they are deemed to be commercial. You have to play by their rules so I can't list it.

Please don't hesitate to respond with an explanation if it's been misjudged or after you've amended it to meet the guidelines.

Thanks,
i,riblit
