Certainly enjoyed the paddle along this scenic river. Thanks Sky Dog for placing these caches in such a nice location.
Another cache I’ve been watching for way too long....today was the day it to pick it up.
All WP’s from the series visited on foot.
Today we followed the fire trail, then the steps to a fascinating GZ- how quickly nature reclaims her space.
Took quite a lot of searching before PDG spotted it, nicely tucked away
Tftc
But the wait was worth it! As a good start to the year on my yak while caching!
After grounding my raft on there old jetty I made my way up the stairs, and found more stairsstairs many possible places that could match the hint.
After a lot of searching around, and looking further about with no luck, I returned to my boat to grab my phone and try to find more hints from the past logs.
I eventually went back up and found it in a spot that I obviously didn't search well enough.
Afterwards I Sat on the steps of the jetty to write up my log. I sat here silently and still enough that little crabs started to emerge from the rocks around my feet.
A great place, and a real shame to see that some properties were left to decay so badly.
Thanks for the cache.
We arrived by canoe, pulling our craft up on to some rocks before starting our ascent.
We found some stairs and made our way up to GZ. What's this then? More stairs? We went up, we went down, we went around, but the cache was not revealing itself. We split up and went over the area again. We kept being drawn back to the main stairs, but they just weren't cooperating.
We circled around some more and still nothing! Then I tried circling back in the opposite direction and something caught my attention. What's this then? Ohhhhh!! Just what I've been looking for!
Quite a tricky find in the end, but I'm glad we found it. Now that we had all the coords for "Breakdown and Makeup" we could add an extra stop on our way back!
Thanks for the fun day out on the water!
We parked in Wardell Drive, and were put off by the numerous signs warning you about PRIVATE PROPERTY. We quickly negotiated a way downhill, with some bush bashing until we located the old steps. Suddenly we were within a few metres of GZ, and some old ruins and more stairs. There seemed to be so many possible hiding places, and the area is getting quite overgrown with vegetation. Another look at the hint, took us to one obvious spot and another level, before EH uncovered the well-hidden and well-preserved cache. Luckily we found an easier way out along a fire trail, more old steps, then an easier climb up the slope before emerging near the guard rail.
So glad to tick this one off, and a remarkable old area. It's hard to imagine the settlers living in this area so many years ago. It was worth the wait to find this one. Giving it a FP. Now onto Deepwater Estate. TFTC
GeoDirk found the stairs up and stayed with the canoe. Up I went! Halfway the stairs a fallen tree had blocked the passage and it took me 15 minutes to get through. And then the search started....
I had searched everything and everywhere, but no luck. Widened my search, no luck. Up the stairs, down the stairs, no luck. Ready to give up. Now i needed to find a way around that tree again, maybe this way.... Oh guess what, another set of walls within reasonable distance of the GZ coordinates! And more stairs. And more walls. What a mess.....
And then suddenly: why does that rock stand out? Oh darn, there it is, a floor higher than I was looking for it. Thanks to that fallen over tree...

S 34° 1.720 E 151° 1.242
Coordinates changed to:
S 34° 1.686 E 151° 1.242
Distance from original: 206.9 feet or 63.1 meters.
The old sign is no longer there. These co-ords take you to a brand new sign.
At long last I can post a found on this cache. We were going to go away this weekend but after a bad weather report changed our plans. How wrong that report was.
Our changed plans allowed Nana nel and myself the chance to catch up on some local caches today and this one was at the top of my must do caches. Arriving at GZ nothing was any different to last time and it was a matter of going back over every location already checked. Searched for 15 minutes and decided to PAF. No answer so it was back to hands and knees and looking everywhere. A leach locked onto my shoe and as I brushed it away I saw what I had missed every time before. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, how angry can you be with yourself. It was so obvious, the 2 log books were moist and we signed both.
With the last finders being 27/08/16, we also get some forgotten days.
I have awarded a favorite, visited a group of trackables and left one for the next finder.
Second of the kayak caches for today, with Alnic, bikerbuddy & Canary. This one was harder to find a landing spot for the kayaks. We each chose a spot & all of us managed to get to ashore without falling over. Canary kind of spoilt that afterwards by falling of a rock as we headed to GZ, but only did minimal damage.
We found some overgrown stairs and what looked like a good place to search. Nothing was found at first, so we spread out a bit. We got to explore this fascinating place a little, before Canary went back to the first search area, looked deeper & found the cache. Coordinates seemed spot on, which helped a lot. Alnic and I had another fight over the cache, then got around to opening, signing, etc.
Awkward return to the kayaks. Well, for me at least, I know it didn't look too elegant. But I made it back in without capsizing, and it was off for a short paddle to the last cache.
Thanks
Our landing was more difficult this time, but we all managed, and then we moved along the shore line to where we had spotted stairs heading into the undergrowth. Canary had a slip on a rock, but he was okay, so we all took it carefully.
We were soon at a spot where the GPS and the clue both worked. We had an initial look, but we found no cache. Alnic39 and I spotted more stairs winding up the slope, so we climbed them and found a wide bush track above, large enough to get a car down. As we descended we found Canary had returned to our original search area - it made most sense after all - and then found the cache.
This was one of the more fascinating places caching has taken me. A favourite. Thanks
I had been to "Breakdown and Makeup" on the 6th of August, so I had coordinates for the two on the river.
This stop was on some rock near the old steps. It was my first time getting out of a floating kayak!
Then it was back along the rocks where I took a slip almost into the water!?!
From here it was a climb to the old house. The coordinates took us to a spot that match the clue but none of us boys spotted it there. We all searched a little further afield till I came back and searched deeper from the side and made the find.
A great adventure in great company with bikerbuddy, Toriaz and alnic39.
TFTC.
Arrived at GZ and looked every where without success. Even went up the second set of stairs to a track and even higher but couldn't find anything. Nana nel went back and started searching again while I PAF. He indicated that Nana nel was on the correct level and I joined her. After another 30 minutes, we gave up and made our way back to the car before dark set in.
One day I might get lucky.
TNLN signed log. TFTC
Now that I am home on the computer, I have just read all the logs. Yes the sign is missing. Lets not go into the problems your failure to review a previous maintenance request has possibly contributed to, other than to say ouch accidents can happen.
Please update. I am keen to try again someday, but I don't want to find that after putting all that effort into it, I am faced with problems that can't be resolved.
Thanks,
wazza9
At the coordinates and there was no sign and after checking the 5 stored GPS logs I noticed I had the phone number for a previous finder. I suspect I was going back to a nearby sign but decided to check first.
Out of the bag comes the phone and while everything is open ops, an accident and we are in the water with phone, camera, GPS and everything else. Some how we managed to recover the items but can only wonder what will work when they dry out. All the contacts that were not on the SIM card, ouch are possibly lost.
Gave up and made our way back to the start.
I will post a maintenance request for the CO to check the sign and if necessary, post new coordinates and if necessary change the formula if some numbers are different.
Found after about 15 min on a return visit - replaced ziplock on the log but it's in pretty poor condition. Would have replaced but for historical value.

No sign of the sign, as noted by a previous cacher.
Managed to find Breakdown and Makeup with only the co-ordinates from Deepwater Estate, then returned to find the cache. Searched for about 30 minutes but had to give up.
Maybe next time....
Oh, the sign is pretty illegible. I had to sms the Sky Dog. We really enjoyed this one. Quite an adventure. TFTC Sky Dog

We chucked around the log book and noted the final was behind us, so we would return to grab it on the way home after finishing the rest of the series.

The second on the list for our expedition. Collected the information easy enough and headed off to the next landing point. This was a bit tricky as there were a number of possible spots. We picked the wrong one and had to double back and with the help of Alf were guided to GZ. Another fanastic cache along the river.
SL TFTC
There are certainly a heap of stairways up the hillside and lots of bits of concrete all around. It must have been quite a sight to see the hillside covered in peoples make-shift dwellings in the old days, but I don;t expect it would have been the peaceful bushland haven then!
Thanks for the history Sky Dog, it makes it all so interesting

And TFTC Skydog - an awful lot of work went into these a few years back - good to see they're all still active!

Got some extra coordinates for another multi as well.
Having met up with Steeba and Hoojar at 'Deepwater Estate' it was on to this one, and like the previous multi, the information was gathered en route to GZ where we pulled up to another great spot that almost seemed like we were the first people to discover it. The stone steps leading up to GZ was like something out of an Indiana Jones movie, and once we were in the right spot, Hoojar made the find. It was a real pleasure doing your caches today with some great company.
Gratias Sky Dog.
Deep Water Estate was first. We all managed to miss the numbers at first however those arriving in the second wave soon helped us out.
Next was Shackles Estate and while the numbers have seen better days we still managed to read them. The question was then which stairs to take and with cachers at multiple landings most of the stairs plus the recently cleared track was used. With so many eyes and hands the cache was quickly found and Breakdown and Makeup was soon worked out.
We continued up to Salinity Now! as we where told it was easier to land there and walk down to the Ruined Castles. On the paddle up we saw lots of good sized fish and bird life including a Kingfisher close up. Thanks to the CO for waiting to ensure a safe landing and a cache find. With the signing duties complete a group of us moved up to the Ruined Castles. Lots of other walls here for plenty of hiding spots. Again the advantage of many eyes and hands paid off with a quick find.
Up The Creek was next. We walked up the good trail up to an intersection to The Needles while some of the others paddled up to The Needles. We initial followed the good track up the hill as that's where the GPSrs were pointing. As we got higher we had a recheck and decided this track was not going to get us down to the river in this direction so we back tracked and cut down to the lower track which got muddier and more over grown as we went until we had to retreat up higher. Once near GZ we realised the river had to be cross but there was no avoid shoes or feet getting wet to get to the other side. After the log signing it was a return to the canoes. (The walk was probably one of the harder parts of the day).
Back on the water if was off to complete Breakdown and Makeup. We spied a nice landing spot and made our way the short distance to GZ where we found the cache after a short search and picked up a geocoin. With the signing complete we teamed up with a few others to complete 40/400. Up the slippery slope we went only to find we needed to be patient with the GPSr as it periodically froze with the poor reception. We had a bit of an extended search and after a few slip and slide came up with the cache from its neatly hidden hidy hole. With the signing complete and the cache re hidden it was a faster trip down the hill (not always on foot)
Once back at the W R E C K start and waiting for a few paddlers to come in we ducked off to quickly complete the nearby Muddy's First cache where we collected a Travel Bug. We also took the opportunity to find talk to a few others for other good near by cache suggestions. TFTC's
The next on our WRECK journey and with the WP info collected we all stopped at various 'steps' along the bank. Luckily, I happened to find the real steps and made my way to GZ. Checked the hint and then while the others were higher up, I made the find. Decided if I should secretly SL and not tell anyone, and then decided against it this time We SL and I replaced. Then L0cksmith and Purplepeopleater needed to SL and I took them back up to GZ again. Nice little area and Multi, thanx again SK, TFTC.
meanwhile the others were sitting in canoes below me either not wanting to climb or having already made the find previously.
thanks for the intertesting spots this series brings us to.
However having done that I discovered another path up the hill on the downstream end of the "wharf".
The cache container had a significant amount of water in it after months of rain, so I have replaced the sodden logbook. However I ran out of pens and the one in there doesn't work. So if the next person could bring one from Deepwater, I would be most appreciative.
However, reaching here was not so easy. Seeking the necessary information at the waypoint was seriously hindered by a tree growing in front of the object, and further, the contrast of the writings was ceasing by age, bleaching, rust and erosion. So we carefully passed three times, and I took photographs. On top, the object was in shade, which made it even worse to read against the sunlight. As we didn't get the full information, we tried to land - Koolkath jumping off the bow and - slip - deep into the water, with her two arms still hanging at the boat. Brrr. As she recovered her mood, try again - same scenario. So, that was probably not a way to go. Downstream the big rock was deep and still water, in which we could then stay and decrypt the signs. As we finally managed the task, back into sunshine, KoolKath drying her pants and reheating. Spotted good landing for GZ along an abandoned pier. Probably should by some fenders for the Arkaroooo.... So I hurried up the stairs to GZ - GPS jumping here and there. Just in mind, at Ruined Castles, it took me an hour or so - and poor KoolKath freezing in the shade. Clear, why this side of the river is abandoned: Too cool and humid. The shade side of the river. We've lived in such a spot twenty years ago - and you won't stop heating and trying to get out of there. Apart from summer time, when you would enjoy two or three months! The ground was again challenging for being barefoot. Many slippery leaves from the garden trees. Found some other interesting stairs and walked them up until the fire trail. I love these overgrown ruins! How forgiving the Australian bush is - fortunately, for all we mistreat it! These plants, these ferns, these grasses! Back to GZ, it finally focused to one location where I searched a bit more intensively with success. Expected one like the other containers, but this one is different - probably the original version. Thanks again, Sky Dog, for another quality cache - as you say, three like this value out 30 in the city! Well done! Hope I have enough favorites left - otherwise I'll top them up later on...

Paddling up, we were continually amazed that houses just kept on appearing. We spoke to one local who commented "Best thing about living here is that there is no road. Worst thing about living here is that is no road" LOL But the serenity must be fantastic.
Back to the cache - this one took a little longer to locate. After we docked the Yaks at the rocky, slippery shore, we made our way up to a likely GZ through the undergrowth and in our best caching thongs..... well actually, I had just broken one of mine at deepwater, so I was slowed a bit.
We looked in the obvious spots to start with, but knowing the hiding technique of Sky Dog, we knew it wouldn't be just placed anywhere.
After reading the clue and some previous logs, we widened our search a bit, and after about half an hour, Mr H finally came up with the goods.
Again, a great hide, a fantastic location & heaps of history.
We will be heading back up here for another paddle to show Mrs H & Mrs Us the great views, so if you are planning a 6th for the series, then soon would be good .
Thanks heaps for the cache - TNLN.
Cheers.
A tricky cache to find with all the dense bush that's around at the moment but after a fairly extensive search & good clue the prize was eventually found.
Thanks for another top cache and a super river series,

Tftc!! Is a little damp though!
Retreated after signing the logs and the threat of Tronador being lifted away by the mozzies.
So any cache on the river was more than wellcome.

This estate was really overgrown and the thorny blackberries snared our legs as we climbed the steps.
Altaire took the correct ones and soon called out found it.
We were soon gathered around the cache once more to perform the caching duties.
Lovely spot. No swaps but left the Achilles Compass Rose Geocoin.

Went in by foot, found an access track close to WP1 (check out the sign). Found WP1, access to the sign was overgrown. To the cache location was a bush bash, found more ruins, lots of caves. Great adventure, thanks for the hunt.

We left the scurvy dog in the boat while we went on a raiding party. We put in a little early and had to explorer the region.
A nifty spot and we tought about building a cubby house but the weekend visits would get expensive. That highly experienced Webster knew just where to look.
TNLN thanks.
Sat and bravely guarded the boat while the overactive chaps forged on up the hill.

Aaarrrr, a trio of river pirates aboard the SS Oyster Cruncher stopped in here to plunder ye treasure and walk ye plank.
Dammit, where is that plank?
We put in and tied up at one spot and wandered around exploring the many levels of steps, foundations, slabs and roads in this area, amazing, people will build just about anywhere.
Found the cache easy enough after looking in quite a few other places, nicely hidden away.
Grabbed a cutlass (knife) and deposited some candles made from human fat that strangely smell of talc. A really nice spot to explore. Forgot to get the part co-ords for Brakedown and makeup so was sent up once more to gather the info.

It's probably still easier by boat but the work of past inhabitants certainly makes the land approach quite feasible.

Found this back in mid march...
Worked without a problem...
Went on a boat with our new dog. it was her first time boating and caching... she loved it!!!

Amazingly the tide was coming in, normally I always end up paddling against the tide so I don’t know what I did to stuff that pattern up.
Soon the tranquil morning is shattered. The paperboy is zooming around in his tinnie blowing on his whistle while making his deliveries. Then out of the hills comes the sound of chooks. Sounds like the place is crawling with chooks.
I really must complain about the cache location, I had to get my feet wet getting out of the boat and that is just not on. Despite having wet feet still found the cache.
Returned to the boat and lowered it back into the water getting my feet wet again YUK, the seadog just jumps on.
