After initially struggling to find the right access point on foot earlier this morning, we came back for a second look with a buggy, and this time we spotted the trail in behind the fenced off construction works. Once we negotiated the restricted access gate, we headed up to GZ where we found the cache, but alas, the cache book and contents were completely soaked. We replaced the cache with a sistema container and new log book in a plastic bag so hopefully this will keep the moisture out. Have kept the old log book and will dry it out so if the owner would like it I'll send it back or put it back in the cache before I leave. We had my uncle with me who we introduced to caching.
I have been advised that the cache needs maintenance. I will also investigate relocating due to nearby construction. Thank you to recent finders for comments and info. A BIG thank you to Marcus for recent maintenance - most appreciated, as I am no longer nearby, but am planning a return. Happy Caching everyone! =D

Unfortunantly this is no longer a buggy driveby cache, as there are two gates in the way. I will try to get time without the geofamily to do this one later in the week...
Another hike w/ mikeflood9. Not a drive by anymore - be prepared to jump fences and wonder if you are supposed to be in this location.
Cache is very wet and moldy but had nothing to replace with. SL - TFTC

Nice walk to a nice view of the airport landing strip. A 4wd buggy would be nice but the walk was nice too. Always interesting to see what goes on to construct an island. Kids thought the machinery was cool. TFTCSL
Our last day in paradise and a fantastic to get some pics to take home, took TB,TFTC and for a reason to visit
Jumped off the free bus as we got close to GZ then snuck through the gravel yard after the workers dissapeared in their truck and past the no entry sign straight up for an easy find. TFTC
Geodad Baldie Bear disappeared off to find the cache on his own. Got pretty worried when he was gone for a long time [xx(]. But he eventually re-appeared and took us straight to the cache. TFTC
Found it eventually, but didn't take the best route to find it. Lots of scratches on legs and arms scrambling over rocks to get there. Fortunately, I did find an easier way to get down and take the geokids up to the cache. Managed to avoid all the muggles, but felt as though as I was in a place I shouldn't be - particularly given the 'restricted zone' signs.
Could not access from the obvious place due to construction works, so scrambled up the rather steep slope from the derelicts... Last find after a round trip of the island... it comes as no real surprise that there is a lot of up and down around here... Thanks.
Felt like we were someplace we shouldn't be but retrieved the cache successfully at 0950 hours. TNLNSL. TFTC.
This one is no longer a buggy drive by in fact, the top of the track is fenced off and surrounded by construction equipment. The entry to the track is now a storage area for construction materials and there are plenty of muggles in fluro shirts
Silver Sovereign and I walked from the main resort pool where the rest of Clan Gunnie were doing the smart thing and splashing in the cool water. It was already 32 degrees and humid as hell after last nights rain... [xx(] When we arrived at the entry point to the cache path, there were of course muggles by the storage pits. We satisfied the muggles by telling them we wanted to use the track to get some aerial shots of the runway and the area below. They didn't tell us that the track was out of bounds so we continued on our way. Luckily, as we headed up the path they take off in a van so we made a hasty approach into GZ and grabbed the cache. Cache is all safe and sound btw... [^]
On our way back down the hill, we got about 20m from the bottom and said muggles pulled back into the area... I guess this cache will survive by virtue of it's low find rate but, I would hate to think what may happen if it's gets a busy period and the construction guys get curious about all the interest "up the hill". To be honest, if it were mine I would relocate the container. Looks like the construction here is going to continue for a while yet and someone is bound to get curious one day...
Back to the area though... Last time I was at this spot (2004), there was a hang glider on a flying fox wire that went from a little further up the hill, down toward the valley near the southern end of the runway. T'was a favourite of clan Gunnie. Sadly, it is no longer operating... There have been some big changes on the Eastern side of the island too with Australia's first 6 star resort being established on the eastern tip. Not sure Clan Gunnie will can afford such luxury though...
Today we were only visiting for a few hours so, We'll be back some other time to grab the caches dotted around the walking tracks.
Thanks for the excercise honeybower.

This one could have been interesting but, thanks to Gunnie's quick thinking we had a reasonable excuse to head up the track. Wonder what they will end up doing with this little section of the Island???

Not sure what number cache this is but it's been a long time between finding caches. Definitely the unattractive side of the island. Only scream heard was that of a departing kangaroo. TFTC. A nice easy find for a non hiker in a buggy. Back to the beach.

Geocaching for the first time with Marty(Quasar3671) while on holiday with family and friends. See Quasar log. Another geocacher hooked. Now see what you've done Marty...LOL.. Thanks for showing me my first cache. TFTC
On a holiday with the family and family friends and took Rob out this afternoon to find his first cache. Parked buggy at start of dirt road and walked to GZ the rest of the way. Watch out for green ant nests as you walk through the bush to GZ as they can give you a nasty bite. Searched the area for likely hiding spots and eventually had the cache in hand. TNLNSL. TFTC.
Found during our great holidays in Australia...

Easy find, although had to go during the day when the gate was open. Dropped off a travel bug.
After half an hour of looking .... its always in the place you start! The business at the end of the road has closed permanently, so count yourself lucky to find the gate open.
Found with geonanna whilst we were on Hamilton Island for granddaughter's wedding. Enjoyed watching activity on runway below. TFTC
First find on Hamilton Island in company with Curly from The Happy Wanderers. The cache was extremely wet and log book slimy. Luckily I had a replacement and after drying out the container and adding two small swaps, the cache was replaced. TN. TFTC.
As per my previous log. I forgot to mention that at times the gate to the cache can be locked, I visited it again on Friday and found it locked. Best to check when the Wire Flyer entertainment is open.
After landing on Hamilton Island this morning for a wedding I was itching to find a couple of caches located here. As this was the most easily accessible and thus easiest to get to in the rain I made it my first stop. I took the little golf buggy for a tour down south and parked it nice and close to the cache. From there it was a short sprint over in the pouring rain where the cache was located quickly.
Despite the rain I was able to shelter the cache while I logged it however I need not have bothered. The log book was wet, mouldy and slimy. Without a replacement or waterproofing bag I was unable to perform maintenance, perhaps the next visitor was come prepared.
Great views from here, I've added them to my log.
Thanks,
R + A - B

Construction site muggles were encountered and the gate was closed with no entry on it. Oh well! Next time maybe.
There were no screams to be heard from the nearby entertainment and as the Wire Flyer operator packed it in for the day we were asked to vacate the area. Luckily we had achieved our objective so obeyed. TFTC.
The cache is wet but not too bad. The construction site blocks off the dirt track too the cache however it does not actually interfere with the cache which is located behind it and can be accessed via a short bush bash
I'm temporarily archiving this cache until I can get back to check out the nearby construction, and perhaps relocate cache.
There was construction fencing and barricades between us and gz. As I had little geocahes in the buggy I was not about to encourage them to walk past safety barriers so we went and climbed the hill. Maybe next time.
When I visited Hamilton, I placed a cache there called Fore!ign Affairs. Unfortunately vacation caches are not permitted at Geocaching.com, but they are at Geocaching Australia. If you'd like to visit H.I.'s 3rd cache, please visit http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga0494 for the coordinates and information.
We too found the gate initially blocked by construction workers and diggers. Returned in the golf cart a couple of hours later and the coast was clear. Great to be able to find a cache while on our day visit to the Island. We left a new log (sheet of paper) as the other one was very wet. A better container might also be useful to keep things dry. TFTC.
Found this one on whilst exploring the island by buggy. We came down to the start of the road and noticed that the gates were locked and that it was closed. Weren't sure whether to go through, so we left and came back a little later in the afternoon. Snuck through the gates to make a quick find. The cache is severly water logged and unfortunately we didn't have a spare log book or snap lock bag to put into the cache. We weren't going to take anything but then decided to rescue the travel bug attached to a little toy dog. We will take him back up north with us. This was our sixth day sailing around the Whitsundays and are very glad that we were able to do some caching at the same time.

Arrived on Hamilton Island today to begin a bareboat charter with Picarow, Bama Babe, Buck and Judy. Walked over to the cache from the Marina with Bama Babe and Buck who spotted it first. Thanks!
Not a very attractive site unless you are a purveyor of construction detritus. Droped a bug and took a luggage tag.
Found this on our Honeymoon. We had a great time on Hamilton.

Found this one about 10pm by flashlight. Nice to get to a part of the island not awash in lights. Looked for the southern cross, but didn't know what I was looking at. Lots of stuff rustling in the bush but I didn't see any of it.
Left the 2007 Moun10Girl Geocoin for further adventures.
Dropped 2 coins for mileage.

Again, just missed grabbing a coin to take home with me, but all good in the end. Came via the 'closed' pathway, but it was close to end of day. Saw the curlers running around, and went straight to the cache, since the coords were perfect. TNLNSL.
There are crappy days on Hamilton Island???? The week we were there it was beautiful one day, perfect the next...
After a leisurely stroll up the hill (trying to look inconspicuous as the trucks roared around us), we found this cache easily.
We remember HoneyBower from Tassie caches (still have one of your bees too!) and we can see exactly why it is similar to 'North Tassie'. Took compass, left a deck of Tassie Tourist playing cards. Great first cache! Thanks!

Found on a very crappy day hidden amongst the rocks. Great view of the airport. Took Launceston pin and left orienteering compass.
On Hamilton Island for 20th Wedding Anniversary - really enjoyed the visit; except for mosquito bite that led to fever, high temps, high heart rate and fear of dying - but got through it OK. Discovered from blood tests later that it was Parmah Farm Virus; not as virulent as Ross River Fever thankfully. Walked from Reef View Hotel to the cache; enjoyed the walk and moderate climb to the site. Good views of southern part of island and beyond. TNLN - TFTC.
Here for a holliday and after some walk from the resort side of the Island soon tracked it down to the gun shots and screams.
Thanks honeybower for the fun.
The cache is dry and in good condition.
Took key ring and left two batteries.

Ordered the Buggy from the Hotel to drive us to GZ. This is the way to geocache - chauffeur driven! Currently on the Island on hols from Adelaide. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache. Cheers, R4R
After a tramp past the barricade....we found the cache with relative ease. It is in a less glamorous part of the island - certainly no Muggle problems in getting to this one. Cache is in good condition but would be good if someone could supply a new pen for the logbook. Took a green toy car and left a green monster fingerpuppet and google earth map of the cache site.
When seeking this cache, maybe you can also tackle "Fore!ign Affairs" [GA0494] on geocaching Australia's website http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga0494
- an easy find with great views!

Picked up this cache on the way to the harbour and to catch our ferry out of the whitsundays . It was a long drive in the morning and quite the adventure dodging cement mixer trucks and other large earth moving vehicles. Easy find once I got close the cache site, it was obvious where the cache was going to be!
I picked up Australian Mountain Bike Geocoin AUCPGA even though it wasn't logged in at the cache site. Fearing that it had been misplaced i picked it up and its now heading back to scotland for some serious mountain biking

Thanks Honeybower, great spot and great views. I decided that i would find it my way and refused to use a buggy so a walk by for me, i tried the day before but got lost in the dark. I was on H I for aconference and we didnot finish till late afternoon so not a great deal of time to go Caching.
Took nolans neopet, I think at least if its a small pink thing that looks a bit like a bee, and also took TB Zek the Adventuring Pirate. I replaced these with a geocoin, auspga, for the next visitor. Left a green model racecar.
The cache is in good order and well done for your first effort.

My first visit to Hamilton Island and this was a great walks from the beach. THANKS for the cache. Left Zek a travel bug to start his Australian adventures - hoping a sail boat will pick him up.
A nice find using the buggies, as i had my wife and 2 kids (who were asleep) with me at the time.
As i was invited to Hamilton Island to conduct some GPS and OziExplorer training for Search & Rescue purposes, and i needed a trackfile of the island to calibrate an aerial photo, what better chance than to grab another cache at the same time.
Great views over the airport....spent way too much time here watching the activity below, as my wife would say.
Nice hide, cache in good condition.....Thanks for the location.

... 3rd and final Hamilton cache for the day ... and an on foot circumnavigation of the island.
Came down the back way from the peak through Palm Valley.
Plenty of gunshots.....
Easy find - spot on and out of view - though I think the air traffic controllers were starting to wonder what I was doing.
TNLNSL - but rescued Nolan's Neopet TB - time to head back to the mainland. cheers and TFTC.

Found this a few days before dandent, but didn't log it until I got back home. I went up for Race Week, but took the day off as I had broken my nose the day before. When dandent found the cache I was back out racing.
Sorry guys that this took soo long to log but have had 3 childrens weddings this year, one of which was on Hamilton. We actually found this cache on March 12 of this year. Found this cache on the day we were flying out. Took Seattle Key Ring and left a "Virgin Airlines" complimentary comb, please note that this comb is "PRE-Branson" days or better still "PRE-Virgin Blue" days. It is worth taking a look at. Let me know if you enjoy!

Well Honeybower, although this may not be the most attractive part of the island in the relative sense, we did find beauty in the location. It reminded us of areas around Mt Isa and they still have some majestic attraction. Thanks for bringing Vulpes and us here. TNLN
A fairly easy find and a good view despite the lunar landscape. Thanks honeybower. TNLNSL.
I was able to get reasonably close to this cache using the golf buggy (island primary mode of transport).
It was a way of introducing others to Geocaching. (seeing I had a captive group of people on the island for my daughter's wedding on the 8th.)

Ah, geocaching on Hamilton Island - does life really get any better than this? Had a good snicker as Shadow! and I avoided muggles on our way to collect this one. The cache continues to be in good order. We left a note for "Sailing Vessel Escapade" as requested, and then dropped off the TB "Nolan's Neopet".
TFTC - took Aussie Luggage tag and left Crime Stoppers Lanyard.
"Let the adventures begin," we thought, and headed off on another caching quest.

If you intend to visit this cache soon (before end August 2006) could you please leave a note for "Sailing vessel Escapade" . Greg, Pete, Alice and Anna will be sailing through from Townsville and the girls dont believe there is treaseure in the Whitsundays.. So they'll be well impressed when they find their first ever cache and there is a note in there for us! If you can help me that would be awsome!

Blunderbus + 1 dropped off my travel bug as we had gone sailing around the Islands!
Surprised but are we first to find?
Found easily as co-ords spot on after a hot walk from the ferry. It was nice to fit in a cache and a three Island cruise of these beautiful Islands. Worth travelling from the UK to this one. Introduced two new friends (John & Margaret) to this sport. Also left a TB for a friend who is cruising the Islands (not yet activated-he will have to do that later.)
