TFTC. Fortunately, I previously read about this cache and took a stigma container with me.I found the cache at the posted coordinates and the tin had seen many days in the sun and was very rusty see photo attached. The logbook was dry and easily signed. I have placed the logbook in a new Ziploc bag into the stigma container and placed it under the rusty tin at GZ.The logbook should now last for a good 20 years at GZ.

Missing has been thrown away

30-Aug-24
After getting notification that Tas Community had done maintenance on this one called past WP1 again today to find the info in place. How did we miss that , I think we had our caching blinkers on.If next finder has a fresh sistema on board would be good to refresh the final. Thanks to Tassie Community cachers for keeping this one going .

27-Aug-24
We couldnt find anything at WP1 but in anticipation of that Id contacted a previous finder who generously assisted me with the final. Quiet day in and around Derby today meant the road to GZ was empty. It took me a very long time to locate the cache but persistence paid off. The tin has almost disintegrated, but the log book was nice and dry. Its been a while since this one had a find, I had to use a photo in an old log to assist with hunting it down. Now back to Derby in Jim our Jimny. It was great to find this old multi. TFTC and for bringing us on an adventure today

24-Aug-24
WP1 replaced for this old multi. See pics

01-Jul-24
Might have been compromised by muggles

25-Feb-23
Found the info in WP1 all crumbled and beaten up, despite being rite-in-the-rain paper. Managed to get co-ords from gooseandegg - thanks to them and everyone else that responded to our pleas! We decided not to head up to the final but we have replaced the coords in the waypoint, in a ziplock bag, and covered the container so it might last a bit longer.

23-Aug-21
WP1 replaced - it's right in the corner

06-Mar-21
Wp1 is missing unfortunately but luckily we were able to have some help from a previous finder. Made the enjoyable journey to GZ and after a short hunt found the old cache. Great spot, TFTC!
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan

29-Jan-21
No bush any more - looks like it has been removed and there are small excavations going on there.

29-Jan-21
Looks like the spot but no bush here Sad

28-Jun-20
PAF on this one as WP1 is missing.
Did a quick replace of container with the final waypoints tucked away inside.
Now off to find the cache and see the dam.
Good drive in and out amongst many bike enthusiasts.
Found the old “fruit and nut” tin. Very rusty and wet. Popped a new aluminum tin with waterproof paper inside the original tin for others to enjoy.
Thanks for placing this cache here, as it’s a beautiful place

28-Jun-20
Found with sscharlie. Great place, TFTC

28-Jun-20
Wow! Found a cache that’s 13 years old! The old tin container was definitely weathered, and showing it’s age and so were the goodies inside... But SSCharlie popped a new container within the old one. TFTC.

28-Jun-20
This cache is older than me!!

Found on a family outing. Loved exploring the area and got to see the waterfalls. We were here in January when the water was much much lower!

25-Jun-20
No find at WP1

04-Mar-20
Well this one was a bit of an adventure! We had no luck at Wpt1, but thanks to previous logs we had an idea of the general area where the cache was. We were exploring the area and intended heading up to the spot anyway.
I mistook the photo of where Wpt1 is for the final destination, so we spent some fruitless time searching in quite the wrong area.
Went back to the hint and thanks to the determined efforts of our muggle friend (who we have named SuperG for his super geocaching efforts at a previous cache) we located the cache!!
Thanks jonno7264.
PS: We searched very thoroughly at Wpt 1, and I'm pretty sure the cache isn't there??

29-Feb-20
We were over in Tasmania mountain biking around Derby for a few days. It was only me who was geocaching in the group, so I could only fit in a small amount of time to this hobby, in amongst biking, lavish feasts and drinking.

Of course on Leap Year day today, I needed to make sure that I found a physical cache. Following the Blue Derby trail today (with a traditional cache find already at lunch), I borrowed the car, and attempted this cache nearby to our accommodation. I stopped off at the posted coordinates, and like others before me, I searched and searched and searched. I definitely think this one is missing, and not as per the described hint.

Nevertheless, I made a PAF to a previous finder, and with the required set of coordinates, I headed to GZ. Thankfully towards the end of day, there weren't any MTB shuttles that I encountered. I parked nearby to some cool views, and headed towards GZ. Despite it being a little dense, I managed to make the geocache find after only a few minutes. All good with this one today, with the cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks jonno7264 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Couldn't find wp1

13-Apr-19
Tassie Trip Day 206 - It was time to go for a drive and we headed off toward the west but only until we had enough of the roads which is not as long as some would like to go but the Secretary has the call.

The information was collect from WP1 and then it was off to the final location and after making our was out toward the area it was soon realised why the vehicle stipulation was made and it was a nice trip to get that far along to just within 100M from GZ the 4WD was engaged just for speed control and decent control not because it was needed to actually navigate the area.

The final spot provided a great view to enjoy before making that last 6M track to the cache itself.

Thanks jonno7264 for bring us here to enjoy the area.

04-Apr-19
Today is one of those days that makes you feel lucky to be alive - warm but not too warm, dry, calm and beautiful scenery everywhere.

After visiting WP1 late in the afternoon, I headed off to GZ, also planning to roll out the swag and spend the night somewhere nearby.

The drive to GZ was straightforward, although
the dam is certainly a tired looking place, particularly with the low water levels.

After a short search I found the cache at accurate coordinates. The tin is looking a little weathered and is rusted out on the corners of the lid and is well and truly due for replacement. However the contents were in good order.

Thanks jonno7264 for a very enjoyable cache.

A massive day out with StainlessSteelRat and GooseandEgg but well worth it to apply a little TLC to some of our originals. It seemed a bit sad to lose some of the history of caching in our state so a rescue run was in order.
Of course, I left a trail of little Scouts behind in any container that they would fit in.

This one was a bit trickier to sort out given it's location and the fact that it's the holidays so the area was very busy but the deed was done and we were off again.

19-Jan-19
We had found this cache before but wanted to restore it as it was originally intended so have replaced the WP at the given coordinates. The hint is no longer correct so I will attache a photo of where to find it. Stealth will be required in this busy area.

Maintenance check # 7
WP1 replaced

A last minute plan was made to sort out a few issues in the north of the state. Stainless steel rat picked me up at 6.30am and we were soon northbound. After the usual coffee and toilet stops we had a good run to meet TazScout. With a real chance of losing some of our historical caches we decided action was needed so this was a day of TLC on a list of caches that severely needed some love and attention. It was a long but successful day with SSR dropping me of at 11.55pm.
Thanks and well done to my community caching buddies (TazScout and Stainless steel rat) who did the bulk of the work today. With my arm still in a cast I was just a third wheel but provided moral support

21-Mar-18
We had been here before and did not locate. We thought that another visit was due, but in a different search location after an extensive search cache was found.

20-Mar-18
A few days ago I headed through Derby and checked out the first waypoint Razz
Bit muggly !!
And I didn't find the waypoint Sad
That didn't stop me heading for a couple of possible nearby spots to see if I could find GZ Razz

A very likely spot showed up on an info board at the campground.
So off I headed,
and enjoyed a good bit of exercise.
But the previous finder's descriptions of the journey to the spots I strolled,
just didn't match !! [:o]
But I discovered some great history [^]

Back at camp some research was done,
and the photos posted by previous finders gave me a new target Razz
And so today,
I headed out there to see if I was right !!

Dodging mountain bikers the whole way,
I eventually rolled the geomobile to a stop in an interesting looking place Big Grin
The drive had certainly matched previous descriptions.
I wandered off for some exploration.
And after a bit of scrambling and rock hopping,
I was staring into an abyss Big Grin
Which matched one of the photos I had seen [^]

So where's the cache ??
GZ sighted !! Razz
And a good half hour later of slowly widening me search pattern,
a cache was spied in an 'obvious' place Smile

Well that was fun [^]
An amazing place that isn't widely advertised Smile
Fave dance time !!

Some of the previous finders pictures gave us a very good indication as to where GZ was. In the end I double checked as we didn't want to miss out on finding this multi.
As soon as we hit the road/track the adventure began. We had 2 SUVs and a little Ford Focus with a couple of rats in it. Now that rat trap has been on some pretty hairy roads in the past and stainless steel rat was keen to continue that tradition much to the horror of Mrs SSR. We were not that far from the end when the poor little car could go no further, not intact anyway so it was abandoned on a cliff edge (ok slight exaggeration) leaving enough space for others to squeeze through, rather than gutting it!
When we arrived at the bottom we were amazed at the sight before us. Time to explore another wonderful piece of North East Tasmania. We may have gone a bit further than we were supposed to but there was a huge inviting hole that just begged us to go through. One accident-prone member of our group was made safe before continuing Wink
We spent a long time exploring the area and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, the spillway, the bridge, the dam and oh yeah- finding the cache. What a cool old container!
After signing the log the boys returned to the cars to find coffee and tea made for us. We stood around admiring the view and chatting.
OK folks, time to move on so we headed back up the hill to find the rat mobile still hanging on the edge of the road. Mrs SSR was a tad nervous so waited further up the road and the rest of us literally surrounded Mr SSR as he maneuvered the car around 180° so he could drive out. I think it was a five point turn which was a damn good job. He was left to drive out on his own as Mrs SSR was happier in our car.
This was a great place to visit but it's not for everyone, you need a bit of ground clearance!

We had planned to do this cache but had also read all the DNF's of the first waypoint, so before we even left Hobart we did a bit of research so we were sure we knew where we needed to go for the final.
We set off down a perfectly good road that soon turned into a dirt track and then into something my little FWD ford couldnt get over quite literally, in the middle of the track with no way round was a sharp square rock that stood 200mm tall of the track and then a drop off the other side of double that, so there was no way my little car would get over that without getting beached like a whale, so with a bit of help toolman I parked as far over as I could without sending it over the edge, just enough room left for the SUV's to get passed.
We then carried on in the two SUV's the remaining 500m to the parking area, after that it was just a short walk to GZ, well it would be if we didnt get sidetracked by the attraction on offer, so almost all of us made our way across the dam wall and down to investigate the slipway, we had loads of fun and then headed back to ground zero.
We started our search but just could see anything so we widened the search a bit and what do you know toolman pulled out the cache a few minutes later, we were glad to add our names to this logbook it was well worth the trip.

After this we went back to the cars and had some coffee and what not before I was dropped off back at my car facing the wrong way on a poor track, so with cachers front and back we turned it round in a five point turn, then it was an easy drive out with the SUV in front slowing me down no end Smile

Thanks for a great cache and another great adventure.

This trip to the North-east all started thanks to a facebook post by DaryVafder saying she had done Tunnel for Tin and after looking at the listing said that I would add it to my to-do list, that was on the 12th off August, not long after the idea of a NE trip was discussed with Goose of GooseandEgg and before long the Egg and Mrs stainless-steel-rat were on-board too, with the idea of a weekend away sounding like it fit the bill quite nicely.
While chatting about it an old Tassie caching buddy 1TOOLMAN who has now moved back to the big island (he couldn’t hack it down here) chipped in saying would we mind if he joined us. So it went from idle chatter to flight and hotel bookings in no time at all, we had a couple of minor changes of plans due to flight times and when people could get away from work on the Friday but other than that we were all set.
Myself and Mrs SSRat had the Friday off so we drove up via the North-east coast to collect a few caches we needed and were the first to arrive at our chosen accommodation Anabels of Scottsdale at just after 6pm and we had the fridge full by 20 past Smile
GooseandEgg were picking 1TOOLMAN up from the airport but it was delayed, so by the time they got to the hotel it was almost 11pm and we had already eaten and Mrs SSRat was asleep, so it was a quick catch up over a couple of beers and off to bed to be fresh in the morning for the start of our North-east caching fun.

All up over the long weekend we found 28 GC and 17 GCA caches making a total of 45 all up.

Found at 11:20 on 22/10/2017

The best caches I have found so far by type are:-

This was our first cache for Derby so extremely excited! First co-ordinates were within walking distance but we couldn't find it. We did find the empty jar also. Not sure if the clue was for the first set of co-ordinates or the second. Maybe we were just a little rusty .... and it was first thing in the morning. So pleased we were not the only ones not to find it BUT we will try again another day.

21-Feb-17
Great location
21/2/17 11:52 am

03-Feb-17
A lucky guess but so happy we found it. TFTC

06-Nov-16
Found an empty jar at this location. Not certain how to proceed from here as we are new to the game. Might need looking at by owner

03-Nov-16
Well, I'm not sure if I was there. The location was very cache like, but there was certainly no bush near the gate. I did find an empty jar 'there' - cache-ly hidden - but it was empty

02-Oct-16
There's no bush to find WP1 so no co ords for WP2 could be found

14-May-16
Found WP1 easily, trundled down a rough track arrived at GZ, appears to be a bit of work going on in the area. We beleive we were in the right area but could not find it

03-Jan-16
Had a free day today, so fired up the trusty old 4x4 and headed out to Derby to tackle a few caches in the area. Very familiar with this area and the GZ, so I had a good idea where to look, but still stopped at first WP to grab the coordinates required. Made my way along the bumpy track to the GZ, and after a brief search of the area I located a very cool cache container tucked away in its hide. Contacts were all intact and in good condition. Signed log and replaced in its hide.
Love this area and all the history from years gone by.
TFTC and bringing back to the area.
Cheers
Rocket

12-Oct-15
Hope I found the right thing but I signed it anyway

02-Sep-15
After being muggled by the CO at the waypoint we headed to GZ but sadly we had absolutely no luck.

The swinging bridge is now closed. so we missed out always around here at this cache.

#2912 - 16:25; Well, well, well, that turned out to be a bit of an adventure!!! I first stopped to pick up the final coords for this cache in January 2013 when I had fewer than 200 finds under my belt and after heading off towards GZ found I'd entered the details incorrectly, so abandoned the hunt and moved on to a couple of others nearby. No such problem today, with the coords punched into the iPhone correctly, the geohoney and I headed along the goat track and in to GZ. We weren't in a 4WD (unfortunately), so the trip was slow and steady. Pulled over about 450 metres from GZ and did the last stretch on foot. Located the cache, signed the log and dropped a GC to continue its travels. Once the cache was returned to its hide, it was back along the track to the geomobile and another slow and steady trip back out. Much to our surprise, we encountered another vehicle (a 4WD!!!) on the way back out, but were quite fortunate that we were able to pass. TFTC and the adventure jonno7264, has to be a favorite Cool

Hi jonno7264
This cache took me to a place I didn't know existed, No! Not Derby, but to where the cache was hidden.
Took my little Toyota Corolla with its low profile tyres all the way in and all the way out without hitting bottom - but did go close a couple of times.
Sainted the cache quickly at 1655hrs
Enjoyed GZ immensely.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

We've been meaning to attempt this multi for quite some time but have never really had a good opportunity to do so, until today that is. Arrived at wp1 and was a bit wary about it's openness and being muggled. GeoNat went in for the kill and soon had coordinates in hand. I think we were noticed by CO but not 100% sure. Anyway, after completing two other caches in the town we set off to find wp2. Luck would have it that the end point was at the destination we had originally planned to visit. Impressive place, bigger than what we expected. Thanks for having a cache here jonno7264, added a bonus to our original plans. TFTC

05-Sep-12
We got "muggled" while accessing WP1. Fortunately it was by the cache owner jonno7264. Phew!!
After a nice friendly chat we set off for WP2.
An enjoyable drive to a great scenic spot with quite a history of it's own. Cache is still nice and dry.
Thanks jonno7264 for a very interesting multi. We enjoyed our 2nd chat as well. [^][^]

24-Jun-12
What a fantastic spot for a cache I never would have wandered up here .. TFTC ...

25-Dec-11
A neat way to direct us the second cache. A great drive and nice scenery around. Thanks johno7264, we (ozvix and I) really enjoyed this one for a Boxing Day jaunt.
TFTC

[8)] A great cache to find on a beautiful sunn day. Can't take credit for this one though really: The Flying Padre did all the legwork...
TFTC jonno7264 - first multicache uner the belt!

We had collected the information for WP1 in the middle of last year but the description (warning?) about accessing the area had deterred us. Today we were caching in the far north-east and finished earlier than expected. We thought we would take a look at how you might get to WP2 so that we could return at a later time fully prepared. We were surprised that we could drive quite some distance in our 4WD Toyota wagon despite it having only average clearance. We finally parked the car about 1.2km from the cache and completed the remainder of the way on foot - a pleasant walk along a good (for walking) surface with quite gentle slopes. After about 20 minutes we were at GZ and, after letting our GPS settle down, we were able to make a quick find. We then went to look at the highlights of the area and to consider how we might tackle the other cache in the area. Thanks jonno7264 for the cache and for bringing us to this historic area.

03-Oct-11
Found WP1 with the help of Mrs. CO, she very kindly removed some weeds that were blocking my view. Road to WP2 a bit rough, but well worth the trip, what a fantastic place. Had a late lunch as I enjoyed the view and the area. Took dinosaur, left fish.

28-May-11
Found WP1 easily with an added bonus of meeting CO. After a chat we continued on to find WP2 found after a short search Log book a bit damp so we placed it in zip lock bag so all is well at GZ Thanks for the cache jonno7264 and nice to meet you.

20-Mar-11
Thanks for the cache . No swaps. Snuck over bridge after. Fun.

15-Jan-11
Found stage one with enthusiasm for part two. Went up the pipe line track which requires a very high clearance 4WD. What fun that was. Found a great part of Tassie, but after looking for 15 minutes with time restrictions, we had to move on with sad faces. But thanks for the adventure! Will try another day with more time and when things are not in flood

05-Jun-10
A tricky find in the dark. Contents safe and dry so thanks to the recent visitors who replaced them.

16-May-10
Wp1 easy find....Wp2 was good too, eventually! After DGT ran screaming from the bush (she spotted a sleeping tiger snake!) Gu was left to retrive cache on his own as she was not going back in there! TFTC

30-Jan-10
With a non caching father's 4WD, we were finally able to do this cache.
WP1 was missing, but the cache owner was on hand to help out.
And we were able to help out too, by replacing the cache container and log book.
Hopefully, it will last longer than the old one.
TNLN.
Thanks Jonno7264, It was good to meet you again after 25 years or so.

18-Jul-09
Container still has holes in it and log book is pulp but we can still find it. Nice spot after an interesting day caching. Picked up Yin & Yan on the way in.

18-Jul-09
Found with Shazcol, unable to write in log book.

16-Nov-08
The Cache container has holes chewed in it in many places. The log book is totally sodden and nearly back at the pulp stage.
Urgently needs attention.

15-Nov-08
This was a long trip for 2 caches. Left Hobart in the evening and found this cache at 22:45. We did this purely for the "Well Rounded Cacher"
game as the only caches to finish off with were this one and another in the north west. Its going to be a long night.
Cache is in very bad condition, log book is saturated and container is totally stuffed.
Thanks for a great trip out here jonno7264

15-Nov-08
I knew that this weekend I had very little chance of doing any caching during the day but I thought I could still manage maybe one or two at night.
When I suggested the idea to March Brown he wasn’t at all surprised the two caches I wanted to do were at the other end of the state and would take all night to get (those Caching Games sure suck you in)
So we left Hobart as the sun was setting and arrived at GZ around 10.45pm.
The full moon was amazing and I certainly have a thing for this ‘night caching’ as there is just something about the stars and the stillness that makes it very peaceful.
Loved the drive to GZ and even at night the full moon lit up the great view.
So with one more planned cache on the North West still to go to there wasn't any time for any night fishing but definitely will have to come back another time.
Thanks for the cache jonno 7264

07-Mar-08
Wow! I thought the central highlands was bad... There needs to be lots more water!
Found the cache but it is in desparate need of maintenance. Something has had a really good chew on the corners.
TNLN because it would rust.
Thanks for the trip in and nice to meet you Jonno7264. And you were right - the little red cachemobile did make it! It only scrapped once on the way in and once on the way out - the same water diversion both times.
Swampy

Great Spot. Had fun.

(:]) great spot

Called into this one 4 days previously.Got some diesel at nearby servo then proceeded to start ratting around to find wpt1 not knowing if it was the right spot and feeling a bit out of place. After email to said cache owners...which they didn't confirm nor deny its whereabouts..and finding out that said cache owners were also servo owners..proceeded into nearby bookshop to grab a coffee and to see if they could shed any light on the matter..when they promptly came outside to help find said wpt..LOL..not appearing to come up with the goods..said cache owners both came out to assist..and where I had looked previously..but not well enough..was said wpt. After considerable discussion with jonno..with much talking about 4wd exploits and where I should be able to go with said 4wd..I left to find the actual cache with jonno's words still ringing in my ears..."You're gunna like this one".
Started going in the right track it seemed..all was well..mostly 2wd..small creek crossing no problems..then when I thought things were going easy..looked up to see a very steep boulder strewn track where someone else had obviously lots of trouble negotiating.Cache notes did say need vehicle with clearance..not 4wd mind you..just clearance..ho hum..my god.Being too far from home and with lots of mechanical sympathy for my geo-fourby.. (can now see why jonno is a mechanic)..decided discretion was the better part of valour and walked the rest.Finding the cache itself turned out to be the easy part..though container is rather rat chewed with large holes.Having another appointment with low tide at Hawkisle cache..no time to look around.TNLNSL TFTEC.Thanks for all the tips jonno..must come back some day and watch you negotiate THAT hill..LOL...I'm sure you would make it look easy. Thanks heaps guys..it was lots of fun and nice to be able to meet you.Cheers.
