After completing the adventure Lab cache we decided we should grab this one as it was the last traditional cache that we needed on the mountain. As we approached the GZ we had a good idea where we thought the cache might be. So whilst one of us stayed on the main path the other made there way very carefully over the difficult terrain. A good look around but no cache. Wondered a bit further and found the cache nicely hidden and made my way back to the path without managing to fall or turn my ankle this time.
Difficult terrain, I am glad my foot didn't get stuck inbetween any of these well conceived lava stones.
Nice hide, log of previous finder capperz helps a lot!

No luck today.
The track to GZ is closed. In fact most of the Mangere mountain caches are in sacred areas now.

Passing by here on the way back down from the peak gathering details for the nearby Earthcache. I thought the cache would be here by this large rock but was a little further away under that one instead. Long lush grass here was easily navigable and a nice walk and visit.
An early start to head out and make a few finds today whilst mrs c is back to work for the morning. Started out on the awesome Mangere mountain and volcano which is my third visit there and has been a good walk each time. The weather came to play again with scorching hot temperatures. It was a big day for hitting the various caching trails and had around 17kms under my boots before i got home. A trip out to the poo ponds and Ambury Regional Park were also in scope and thanks to all COs for their caches and efforts towards my finds today.

Great day on the maunga with the kids. Mr 6 found it easily once we found the right rock. Tftc!
Awesome place but I've been searching for at least 30 minutes with no luck. (Probably it's still there and I'm just not looking in the right place...that always seems to happen.)
Came to Mangere mountain to try and solve the adventure lab but failed at the first hurdle!
Time to get some traditionals.
Have found our first travel bug and will move him on shortly.

Yay! Checked for caches while up the top, figured it'd be east enough to go down the steep slope, baby in front pack plus the other kids meant easy was a 15min pick our way down haha but all that was forgotten in the sweet satisfaction of finding the cache finally under not the rock we expected lol. Thanks!
We came for a wander around mangere mountain today check out the volcano today for our homeschool with friends Ariella21, we had plans to do the earth cache but the kids were way too fast and fit and taking off miles ahead of us, so we instead found this one on the way down from the peak, the kids were doing quite a bit of searching at all the big rocks, when i caught up with them and let them know which spot we should be at one of the kids made the found. A very good place and a great workout tftc!
Up in Auckland for the night visiting family before Xmas. Stopped by here before dinner.
Tftc quickly found cache in good condition.

Got a bit confused by which big rock it was at. Followed to gz and found easily. TFTC!
Since this hadn't been found since April I wasn't confident in my chances, but I still gave it a go. At first I didn't quite know where it would be. I ended up being quite far from it no matter what path I took. Eventually I figured out the location through some clever triangulation. At the end of my walk I went for the GZ. Then came the next tricky bit. The previous logs were helpful in narrowing things down. Except that I started to overthink the hint quite a bit. Some key words in some logs made me rethink my search strategy and a sudden thought came to my mind (after the crazy sudden thought I had already had which turned out not to be correct) and the find was soon in my hands. Luckily there was no one around for all of this as naturally it would have looked extremely odd. Thanks for this one!
A couple of big rocks over here, so it took a few.
Signed it and put it back.
Thanks for the cache!

Nice birthday cache with Ryder. A few big rocks, but GZ was at the right one. Empty cache apart from pencil a logbook and a rock. Tftc
Having failed to find Saturn, I & my muggle friend went to try & succeed with this one! We took the harder route, but were rewarded! TFTC
Find number 6085. In Auckland for a couple of days grabbing some caches. Having done the Mangere cycle trail it was over to collect a few on this mountain. I was following my GPS so it was to the top I went. Then it was down again to GZ. I to spent some time looking at the wrong hint item On widening my search I soon had the cache in hand. Thank you for the placement.
walking the dog around the mountain this morning and got the caches in the area as well. I made this one more difficult for myself by coming at the rocks from possibly the most inconvenient way possible, but got there. Once I was at the right rock I found it quickly. Tftc
found the cache. took the trackable. we have the possibility to bring it to the other side of the world. tftc 9. Juni 2019 11:27
Found it after reading the hint, gZ was definitely not a rock took and left a travel bug! Tftc
An afternoon walk from the airport to Onehunga. 28 smileys along the way with a few DNFs. Not sure I took the most appropriate route to get here as I stumbled up and down the slope. Once at GZ had a rest and will give it a favourite just for getting me here. TFTC
What a beautiful spot and the perfect place for a cache. We had the area to ourselves and felt like we were in another world. Thanks Tramper Ted for bringing us here.
Today we had a great time in Auckland - our last day in your beautiful country.
Thanks a lot for the cache on this nice place. We could find and log it. Thank you for maintaining and hiding the treasure!

This morning we picked up our campervan at Apollo's and took of to Mangere Mountain for a nice view and some caches. Just make sure you're at the wright rock, it's there...
The last day in Auckland I used to discover the area around Mangere mountain, where I found this box.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
Out in the area with Merlot58 and Jag50 to complete the earthcaches nearby for the souvenir. We made a small detour from completing the waypoints of the Mangere Mountain earthcache to locate this cache before continuing on.
We were walking around Mangere mountain to do the earthcache for our souvenir and stopped to grab this one as we passed, a nice quick find here
I had a bit of spare time so headed out this way to collect some smiley faces. I was looking at the wrong big stone but nice quick find in the end. TFTC.
I was in the area after class and had worn the wrong footwear.. proper walking shoes are gauranteed to make this journey a lot more easier... jandles not recommended... liked the hiding spot, very neat. TFTC
For a long time now I had seen geocaches up/around/on Te Pane o Mataaho or Mangere Mountain but never seemed to be able to make the space to come and find them until today... or so I thought. When I parked below I thought that I would try to find this one first and for some reason completely miscalculated where it was that I would need to go... and ended up climbing a lot higher than I should have. So I traversed back to GZ and once I was there I made a nice and easy find. However, while I was signing the log I got a phone call from Mrs Sherlock who was stranded and had to leave to rescue her. Oh well... at least I found one cache around here today. I will be back! TFTC
We were down here today to walk Albert the Geohound and to try and get a first to find on a nearby new cache. After success there, given it was such a beautiful day we decided to take Albert for a decent walk and to look for this geocache. We circled about a bit before we determined the general area of the cache - once that was done we passed some beef cattle who were lounging in the grass and headed to GZ.
Once at GZ, the find was easy as it was lying out in the open. Opened up and all was present so not sure what happened, perhaps a muggle came across it though hard to see how. Signed in to the damp log and then put back in the spot I am pretty certain it is supposed to go. All good in the end, thanks for the cache.

Third find of the afternoon with PhilBirdBoys, a great walk, thanks for bringing us here! Tftc.
Took a looong walk to get this one. We were looking at the wrong rocks to start with then Bird spotted the lonely rock and D from CODEHill went in for the find. TNLN SL TFTC
We have been in the area so decided to have a look at Mangere Mountain for the view and it's craters. It's nice to see places like this in the middle of the city. Nice and easy find.
Thanks for showing! Tftc

It took a while, but after reading the logs I had a look at the *lonely* big rock. Found while exploring the Mangere crater.
Thank you for the cache!

I arrived in New Zealand and after sleeping off the jetlag, I spent a day mostly geocaching around Auckland. Nice weather, though hot in the sun but chilly when the clouds covered it. Putting the coat on and off all the time ... Love the waterproof paper in film boxes and similar, it's not very common in Europe.
Thank you for the cache!

Lots of potential places but I happened to turn up at the right one. Took nothing left nothing. Thanks!
A walk with Tinytree and friend today allowed us to grab this cache. Nice to see an older one still going strong - all in good shape. TFTC.
Came here this morning at dawn to find this one to continue my daily streak. And what an awesome place!! Was damp and muddy underfoot but I always have my gumboots in the car so off I went. The cows were still half asleep and the cache was quickly in hand. I have gotta come back here and trek this whole mountain. Giving it an FP. TFTC
Tftc. Next time I'll check my GPS properly before assuming I am in the right crater.
Great fun traipsing over the mountain looking for THE rock! Lovely spot on a cold winter's day. Found it!
From the distance we send the kids saying: might be there. And off they ran. When we came cliser we recognised that we underestimated the distance. The kids have been already too far, so we did grap this easily!

Was enjoying me leisure time at the summit knowing I'd soon have to come down for this, but then it started raining. The ground was already muddy from days of rain. So now slipping down instead of walking down, THEN it starts HAILING! haha no tree cover near this cache at all so had to wait it out until I could search the area. Expected some GPS bounce which I got, but eventually found the right GZ.
Oh! And haha in first looking in the wrong GZ, saw a ton of little skulls . Perhaps rabbits and other things.

Originally planned to complete the earth cache here, but had a bad case of couldn't be bothered, instead made the much shorter walk to this one, a quick find and replace
Having completely neglected to grab this while doing the EC, I quickly headed over there afterwards to make the find. Cache in good shape and luckily no muggles were around at the time. TFTC!
I found this after completing the Earth cache. I took nothing. I left nothing. I signed the line. Thank you.
We let the French new comer give this a go after a few instructions on how to use the GPSR. She did a fantastic job and we were soon at the right rock so all were happy. TFTC!!
Cool cache. Kids brought swappables and were very happy with their swaps - thanks past cachers!
Great adventure scaling Mangere Mountain. Took the direct route from the Scout den straight up the side of the mountain, only to scale back down from the summit to GZ. A great find for the kids as we had some swaqppables ready. The return to the scout den was much easier as we simply walked around the relatively level mountain perimeter (I suggest this is the easier way to get to it, but you don't get the view of Auckland that way).
Out and about today enjoying the sun and picking up some specific caches for my current geocache licence. This was a nice quick find once at GZ and a good spot for a rest and snack after hiking to the trig point and back down TFTC!
Great little find with the kids. Not the obvious rock but easily spotted. Thanks for the cache! Lots of fun for the kids!
Second on the mountain for us today or should we say in the mountain. As we approached GZ from a couple of hundred meters away we we praying it was "not up there I hope". Lucky for us it was an easy access. Signed the log and returned well the cows next to up were quite bemused as to why we were disturbing their peace. TFTC
Needed an earth cache this day for the souvenir. Chose the Mangere Field trip as it had several Trads to do as well. This is my first time up Mangere Maunga, although have done many other caches in the area. So great to finally have a look. TFTC
Had a lot of fun exploring the crater today, saw lots of rabbits running for cover as I approached GZ. MY GPSr zeroed out near what looked like a good place to hide something, but there was nothing there. I checked the hint, and made a move to a different area, but when that didn't turn up anything either, I saw a slightly smaller host, and then found the cache. Thanks for the hide!
Wow, took ages for the find... Wasn't in the obvious place... Good walk though... Thanks.
Our first find! Took us a little while as we are new to this! Kids loved the hunt, dogs loved the walk and we even did it in the rain! Awesome fun
