Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

WOW! Great trig and location!
And, a LOT cooler during a heatwave.. thank you elevation Very Happy
Thanks for the cache Smile

Adding more pictures from my sunset visit tonight. I saw a piece of copper pipe in concrete not far from the trig and decided to look at the trig sketch. Turned out there were a few markers and the trig itself were all copper pipe bits. I couldn't help but find them all, which led me to realise the first one I saw was actually the old trig prior to the pillar here now. No doubt there was an older one somewhere up here also, maybe under the concrete slab which was the old trig I found tonight.

This is an amazing place, and we enjoyed reading about the history of the road to the summit. These days, it is a fairly easy drive to within a few metres of the summit, as long as you are not too afraid of heights that is.

Thankfully, there is an abundance of short, mostly kid friendly walks in the National Park, so we are making the most of it.

Camped at Bush hut last night, blowing and freezing cold. this morning no wind and sunny, amazing place well worth a visit

It's been a while since my last GCA log. Visited during a recent roadtrip to Cameron's corner. Beautiful clear sky provided amazing 360 deg views.

I arrived at Dawson Springs campground in the dark so had no clue what was around me. I'm usually at work by 6am so with the sun rising a little later here than home it was no problem walking up for a sunrise at the summit. However... the cold made it difficult. Haha.

I rugged up including wrapping a blanket around me for the short wander up the icy boardwalk. The moonlight lit my way. The sky was just starting to glow to the east. The icy wind cut through all my layers but my ug boots. And I stayed up there with the trig as my lone companion watching the sky change and my surroundings reveal themselves.

Wow! I read that you can see 10% of NSW from here. It was a good morning to do just that. Magnificent views. Definitely glad I made the decision to stop here for the night instead of driving on as far as my tired eyes could take me.

We did a trip to Mt Kaputar years ago on the way home from one of our trips. Loved the view from the platform! Took a photo of MrT at the trig. Climbing Son has been there more recently. Thanks.

An easy trig to find (once you get here) with it being incorporated into the viewing platform. Spectacular views on a clear day like today. You know it's a great spot when there's three caches at the same place - earthcache, trig and GCA traditional (unfortunately no luck with the traditional though).

Enjoyed a nice walk from our campground, excellent views. Apparently on a clear day you can see up to 10% of NSW!

Woohoo. FTF. What a view from up here. Just about 360 degree panorama. Thought we could get the FTF on the other duplicate GCA cache at the same spot but I think it's long gone.
