Gallery of log for The Bonza Aussie Scav Hunt
#GA1233 - 21:45; Spotted this FJ parked in Gibraltar Street, Bungendore while I was on a recent visit. Unfortunately the owner wasn't anywhere in sight, so I couldn't get any details of the provenance, other than the number plate which suggests it is a 1956 model.
Keeping with the motoring theme, 2016 saw the last Land Rover Defender roll off the assembly line. Growing up on a farm, I learned to drive in an old Land Rover, so the next hunt requires the finder to locate a Land Rover Series 1 and get a photograph with themselves and/or their GPSr with said vehicle.
Land Rover entered production in 1948 with what was later termed the Series I. This was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show. It was originally designed for farm and light industrial use, and had a steel box-section chassis, and an aluminum body. Originally the Land Rover was a single model offering, which from 1948 until 1951 used an 80-inch (2,000 mm) wheelbase and a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing around 50 bhp (37 kW; 51 PS).
In 1992, Land Rover claimed that 70% of all the vehicles they had built were still in use, so finding an old one shouldn't be such a big issue
