Regretfully, the committee of the 2021 OZGeoMuster event would like to advise that the Kempsey event will not be going ahead as planned this year.
Whilst many people may understand what goes into running an event of this size, we wanted to take the time to explain some of the difficulties that we have had to face over the past 10 months that has finally brought us to this decision.
At this stage, our sponsors have not confirmed all of the required agreements due to their uncertainty of COVID and the ongoing changes in restrictions. There is also ongoing concern for how to monitor and control so many people in indoors spaces.
As we have seen in recent weeks and months, it only takes one incident or cluster of COVID to rise up for local and state governments to introduce restrictions and/or lockdowns that would prohibit our event to go ahead in any capacity. Whilst we are aware that restrictions are easing at this time, it takes a number of months to plan and work with ‘what will be’ as opposed to what ‘might be’.
It is largely due to this uncertainty going forward that many potential sponsors are having trouble justifying any level of commitment or sponsorship, which we can completely understand. However, a mega event of this size can not be run on zero dollars, and unfortunately the burden of funding it ourselves with is too great to bear this year. We have looked at numerous ways of providing a reasonable event for people to attend that is worthy of the title of MEGA, and at this time, it simply wouldn’t be the same.
The other main aspect we have to reflect on is time! Most of the committee members have had conflicting work priorities in the lead up to this event, and as such, the impact of COVID in the past 10 months has been quite significant in our daily lives.
It has taken some time to reach this decision as we wanted to explore as many possibilities as we could to get the event off the ground, so we hope the geocaching community respect and understand this decision.
Collectively, the Ozgeomuster team remains committed to delivering an event to a level that our attendees are used to experiencing, but unfortunately it’s not the right time for us to do so at this stage. However, we certainly do look forward to seeing everyone at another OzGeoMuster mega event in the not too distant future.
Regards,
The Ozgeomuster committee:
Warren (Marcus Vitruvius), Jon (Frisky Puppet), Keiran (Kingfisher_au), Matt (Big Matt & Shell), Sonia (Shifter Brains).

With reports of this one gone missing, and with no one local to maintain it anymore, it’s appropriate to let it go to rest.
Thankyou to everyone who took the time to find this cache.

As we move towards our new proposed date for the Ozgeomuster mega event in 2021, the committee would like to thank everyone who has already placed a will attend on our event, and who have contacted us with words of support during these times of uncertainty.
Due to the change in date, HQ have advised that any attendee that can no longer attend the Ozgeomuster mega event next year in June, to please remove your 'will attend' log. At this stage, the event will be planned for the weekend of June 26th, 2021, providing health restrictions allow the event to go ahead.
We hope everyone stays healthy, and we look forward to planning a wonderful event for all attendees.
Stay tuned for further updates.

As this Mega-Event will not take place on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July, 2020 because of health and safety concerns related to COVID-19, we plan to reschedule the event. Once it is rescheduled, we will post an announcement and update this page.

26-Mar-20
Due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ozgeomuster committee would like to inform everyone that we will need to postpone the Ozgeomuster mega event in Kempsey for 2020.
The Ozgeomuster committee are committed to the safety and well-being of everyone in our geocaching community, and with current government guidelines surrounding interstate travel, indoor group gatherings, and social distancing, an event of this size and nature can not go ahead at this time. In addition, the morality of hosting an event which brings large numbers of people together during a time that requires social distancing is something that the committee is not willing to do, even more so for anyone who is in an ‘at risk’ category!
The postponment of the event is of course disappointing, but your health, safety and wellbeing as a geocaching attendee is our main concern.
For those people who have booked on site accommodation with us, or purchased event merchandise, these costs will be fully refunded as soon as we can! We are working with our shop payment providors as we speak and aim to have your money back to you within 2 weeks. We understand that for some people at this time that this can make a real difference so we will commence this process immediately.
On a positive note, the Ozgeomuster committee are already working with Kempsey Shire Council on our plans for next year, and we are excited to announce that the Ozgeomuster mega event will be held at the same venue in Kempsey in 2021. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months!
We hope everyone stays safe and well during this time, and we look forward to having you with us next year!
