Description
Everyone loves a waterfall. Watching and listening to a river or creek spilling it's contents down a rocky escarpment into a pool below relaxes the body and soothes the soul. It's often the reward at the end of a hike through the forest. The cool down during a hot steamy day.
The Northern Rivers region in North East NSW has plenty of beautiful waterfalls, some well signposted with picnic areas, BBQs and facilities - and others feel like untouched wilderness. This tour aims to take you to a selection (but definitely not all) of waterfalls in this subtropical region. There's a physical cache at each location - some right next to the falls, others away just a little bit to allow for a safer muggle-free search. The containers are all varied in size and construction to suit their locations. Some are listed as 'Other' because they may be a larger object with a smaller log book compartment in them. Some a well hidden, while others are hidden in plain sight.
Some of the waterfalls will need a longer hike to see them, while others you can drive right up to. The approximate hike time is on each listing so you can decide weather you have enough daylight to visit it.
Parking co-ordinates have been put on each listing. This will make getting to some of the locations a bit easier.
There are 10 falls in total - 9 with traditional caches hidden and one 'challenge' cache. To find the challenge cache, you'll need to get clues at some of the traditional stashes. You need 5 clues. Some traditional caches dont have clues. Each of the 5 clues are available at two locations. Statistically, you may need to visit only 3 locations to get all you need for the challenge cache!
Below is a table of all the caches in the tour, and some quick comparison of each location. 'Drought-proof' locations generally have water flowing even when it's extraordinarily dry. Some locations require a good hike to find a swimming hole or swimming is not allowed/not possible.
