Description
Dish of the Day |
- A pleasant bushland walk on Crown Land (with a modicum of rock hopping at the end)...
- This one can be approached from a variety of directions, some of which could be exciting / strenuous...
- The cache is a largish clear plastic container filled to the brim with the usual goodies...
- Should be an easy find...
- Watch out for snakes!!!
Other Activities
- The cache is situated in (what I imagine would be) a great area for mountain biking...
- In case you didn't see them on the way in, go to .606S .038E, stand on a rock or climb the tree to catch a glimpse of what gave this cache its name... I was hoping for a better view, but this is the best I could find...
Logs
This one is amazingly still there and we knocked it off in a dad and daughter duo to find our very first ever cache. Great fun, and a testament to both Leek and the geocache community this is still going. Last name in the book was Zalgariath so been a while between finders!

One of the best parts of the Summer Scavenger Series is that it's encouraged me to hunt down some really old caches. I'm lucky to live on Sydney's North Shore where many of the earliest GCA caches were hidden by Leek. Im slowly working through them, most in excellent condition still and in great locations. The amount of work that went into building this series of jumps and ramps was huge. Looks like it has now fallen into disrepair as the termites and weather break down the construction. The cache however has not seen the worst of these effects and is still in great condition. I walked up from the Oxford Falls car park. It's a little overgrown but an easy enough accent...even today in 35°C plus heat! Not sure if you still read these Leek but thanks for all your pioneering hides on GCA.

First ever cache find!
Bit of a bush bash and definitely watch out for snakes.
Great find!
Thanks!

Parked on Kellys Way and walked 100m in to GZ where the hide was quickly spotted. The box and contents are in great shape. No dare-devil cyclists today.

Since I wanted to come to the area to look for Bang Bang Gnome (unfortunately muggled) I had to have a go at this old GCA cache.
Turned out to be an easier find than I expected, all is well with the well stocked cache.
Loved the hide, great spot but it could get busy at times.
Thanks for the neat hide.

Second GCA log, but first GCA find. In hindsight, I should have entered them the other way around
Its taken me a while to start using the .au site, but looks like I might have to use it more often.
I do quite a bit of mountain biking, but nothing like the trails that this one is surrounded by. I reckon if you need to be wearing full body armour, then something is wrong

Lately I've been driving along this road several times a week and have picked up all the GC caches but somehow I kept missing this one. GCA Cacher kept saying it was on the other side of the road but today I'd checked on GE and parked on the dirt road and walked up the mountain bike tracks to GZ. I didn't see a likely spot so looked all around and then came back to my first spot and found it in an ideal hide. Container had native rat poo on it! Something enjoys this hidey hole!
It was harder to spot because there is no cacher trail and the vegetation has grown up in front of it. No wonder, when I signed the log I was the third finder in the last three years! Come on guys, this is so much better than mint tins, rivets or bison tubes under garbage bins!
Thanks for keeping an old cache going.

Good to find a GCA traditional, coincidentally, a year since the last find. Cache is in fine order.
Nobody about on the extensive bike tracks this afternoon - looks like serious stuff.
Saw much of the two dish farms later, on the way to It's a Spooky Place. TFTC

No mountain bikers around which was a pity, some of those ramps are just for the insane. The cache was easily found. Thanks. TNSLLN

Nice cache. Reasonably easy to find and great to finally see why all the mountain bikers are always seen frequenting this area. There are some awesome stunt tracks for biking around here!!

WanderingAus wandered by on day 123 of a 6 month trip Wandering Australia and made an easy find. After days of only finding micros and nanos it was nice to find only real caches for the whole day.
My find No 923, LCC, TNLNSL.

Late in the day there were no MTBs to contend with. Looks like they have a spot of fun here at times. Checked out the dishes on the way in and out. Made no swaps here.
When the dishes were first built I was working for OTC and for the guy whose job it was to Project Manage the whole thing (I was a project assistant back in those days). Been a long time since I have been up there. Surprised to see it is now operated by someone called Reach, I was expecting Telstra logos.
As for the cache, a quick trip up the hill and while I was signing the log the mad muggles started coming through, at least they are travelling fast enough they can't really see what you are doing. I wonder if the ambulance service has a regular appointment up here each weekend, that nearby jump is crazy.
TNLNSL, thanks Leek.

Great hiding spot, not sure abot the dish though. Could see them much better from where i parked the car. MTB still racing down the hill at dusk. MAD!!! THTC needed a walk after a day of lectures. Oh and thanks for the warning about snakes.... what about spiders and..........
Took us longer than it should have. Not too much two wheel traffic. TPLP. Thanks for the cache and a new short cut to OF.
Took me a while to find the path that leads to the place. I came in a work day and the place was empty... must be quite a view to see the bikers going down *that* trail.

Had a great time watching the Mountian Bikes come off some of the long drops. Best to do this cache when you have some time to spare as you can see some real action if you hang around.
TN Left pen and lanyard. TFTC.

Found it pretty easily after a short walk. Lots of BMX muggles around. Took a green tractor and left a measuring tape.
This one is an easy find although there are a ton of BMX Muggles to contend with. They are very preoccupied with their own sport to notice anyone else. Amazed by the dishes, never knew they were there although I’ve driven down the Parkway many, many times.
Thanks for taking us there

Quick find. Lots of impressive mountain biking going on around us. Thanks smerrall for keeping this cache alive.
Found relatively easily. Was suprised (even thought shouldn't really be) that BigmickB had just been here! The second one for the weekend we had followed him to a week later.
A great hide away place (so many ramps and things!!) we would have never known about.

Well it was a bit of a walk down nostalga lane as it's been a while since I've found a Leek cache. Glad to see the standard hasn't dropped any. The new container is looking as good as new. I had to wait a few minutes for some mountain bikers to depart from just next to GZ before I could start looking. Couldn't help but thing there's no way on earth you'd get me to ride a bike off some of those jumps! Had a laugh at some of the big dishes nearby too. Just how big a dish do you need to need to get decent TV reception?! TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache Leek!
Thanks for performing the maintenance smerrall... Glad to hear that it's still in action...
As I approached this cache, with none of the bush bashing or other difficulties experienced by the earlier visitors, I wondered if the cache had survived the summer bushfires that the rest of the hill clearly had not. I saw the answer 20m away - barely. The container had melted and, cracking it open, the log bag and pen had melted into the container. The Kylie tape, however, survived unscathed.
The melted bags were replaced, the pen replaced with a pencil and the 3l container replaced with a 2l container. The cache is well stocked and ready for another few years.

Headed out for a bit of lunch time caching in work shirt and tie. Nice easy walk in, The terrain is a little too extreme for my mountain biking skills. Interesting large wooden jump set up. Found cache easily. Took Cow, left Kylie Tape. Nice day, but unfortantly had to head back to work, Removed spiders web from work pants, and tick from back of neck.
Bush Bashed most of the way to the cache, then found out there was an easier way. Could hear some 4 wheel drive going hard in the distance. TNLN
Nice to do a cache with a little bit of rock hoping. Found a friendly Kangaroo protecting the cache who quickly disappeared into the bush.
Down to where I use to live and followed a track I use to know
Tripping and stumbling with two Geokiddies in tow
The cache was found by the eldest
Goodies liberated by youngest
Left a racing car for good measure
Took an egg cup in the form of treasure
This one was fairly easy to find and caused little woe
Off to find piggies we go.

A nice well hidden large cache, still full of quailty goodies, took water pistol left a cow's head. Thanks Leek regards Philma.
Visited this site late in the afternoon with number one son. Quick to find. Left MIB and Foxy Beanie Kid Key ring.
Collected 2 x TB's, Philosophers Stone and Shark for a trip to Canberra.

Last one for today. Quick Hike up the Trail. Found location without too much problem (thanks to Crowmage wandering out of the bush ). Was being sucked dry by mozzies as i wrote the log, and with a few minutes till sunset, wrote a quick message, dropped off Listerine (someone may wat to get this as it expires soon) and took NSW RFS patch. Temperature dropped at least 10degrees as we emerged from the bush in the moonlight.
"The Crow" almost made a meal of me....Well as they say "Out of the frying pan and into the fire".... Whats that you say Clark...Will someone please take me back to water...Please and quickly....please....
We shall see!!!
We shall see!!!
Dropped in to drop off tb "Clark the Shark"
I could not think of a better place for him besides the sea.

Did this cache after trying to find once upon a time moving cache... just missed out on that one...
Maybe 6:30 is a little late and dark to be doing this cache. We found it anyways with help from a torch. We dropped off the philosopher's stone bug and some finger puppets.
...or, Day of the Dishes...
Great hiding place, Leek - made to order! Saw plenty of biking evidence but mercifully all was serene on the day we went. Took green tape, left an egg cup that was bought for another Leek cache but didn't fit! Thanks again.

On the way back from Snow White felt a bit peckish so dropped in for a meal....electrifying!! Easy walk if you take the --- ----.
Found this box after a walk. Able to avoid those keen bikers. Good cache. Swapped nothing.
Found by Mary & David at 1450. Thankful that we can still manage that 'modicum' of rock hopping. Don't think we'd want to be here when the trail bikes are flying by though. With her medical background, Mary predicts the riders will produce few offspring. The wildflowers off the track were exquisite. Took sachet sample of hand lotion, left belt keyclip. Our thanks again to Leek - the dish of the day was just right.
Found it nice and easy after walking up the track. Cache was hidden nicely and in good condition. There were lots of lovely wild flowers out today which made the walk all the more pleasant. Took nothing left nothing.
Those that ride mountain bikes down this track must have kahunas the size of coconuts. I've done a bit of riding in my time but this stuff is way out of my league. I wonder if Tangles could ride it?
Good one Leek

After finding Snow White we thought we'd drop in on Dish of the Day! Found it with little trouble after discovering the waypoints have been updated since I had last downloaded them into the GPS!
Nice cache Leek!
Took nothing, left nothing...Signed the log!
Thanks

Thought we would have this cache for desert after MRG & I found Snow White close by. Found it quite quickly, I was using my new GPSr for the first time today. As usual an excellent Leek cache - once again thanks for all your effort in placing caches.

Found our second one for the day. Swapped sunglasses for bag of toys. Lived here for 20+ years and never seen the dishes before, thought we were at The Dish in Parkes. Great place, sunny day.
Second cache for the day. The five chicks fought over the manicure set, i took the wet stuff. made an international call and went home.
This was nice and easy, all that the Bushrat babies felt like tackling at the end of a hard day of leisure, which included such events as wakeful inactivity and resting. Well hid. Keep an eye out for bike riders tearing around the plentiful tracks. Took deodorant and left some puzzles.
Interesting drive out to this one - had no idea that that area existed. Driving past the dishes on the way in gives it an almost eerie feeling! Had excellent GPS coverage too.
Did this one on the way home from a job at Dee Why so was without the hint sheet but it was easy enough anyway...
Good one, Leek.

A nice easy one to wrap up an afternoon w/ friends in Beacon Hill. Took KitPie, Dribbles, Dave and Lauren along for the ride.
Found it just where it looked like it would be
An interesting area.
