Description
Your experience with this cache will vary. If you visit on a lovely clear calm day, you will possibly walk away thinking this was one of the better moments of your caching career. On the other hand, if your visit is on a day that's not ideal, you'll be wanting to hunt us down and hang us from the nearest tree! Luckily there aren't many in the area :o)
The Drive
It may seem strange dedicating a cache to a rally driver, but I'm sure once you've visited this cache, you'll agree that Possum would have enjoyed himself if he was visiting this area. The drive to this cache is nothing short of, how can I put it. . . interesting.
Bad weather will restrict the accessibility, at least by car. If it's wet you'll need a 4WD, if it's snowing I think you'll have to walk, or use a GeoCopter(tm). Given this isn't really an option for most cachers, I'd try to pick a nice clear dry day for the best caching experience. Tourists should be encouraged to have a go at this one, especially if you have a hire car ;-) Cachers using GeoCopters(tm) should be wary of transmission towers in the area.
The Cache
You're looking for a round plastic container. I haven't used this type of container before, so I'm not sure if it can handle the environmental extremes - maybe the first finder can give me a report on how it's doing? The contents are all in individual zip lock bags to protect them from the weather - if you swap an item please place it in the bag that held the item you took.
The terrain around the cache is somewhat rough, so to make it a little easier to find I haven't hidden it out of view, as long as you walk past it, you should see it. The chances of GeoMuggles finding it are slim, I really don't think anyone will be casually walking past.
Warnings
As with much of Tasmania, the weather in this area can change in an instant, please keep this in mind whilst visiting the cache. Take adequate clothing, wear good footwear, and please drive carefully.
Logs
Wow, what a drive up here. Amazing scenery and views. Nice walk out across the top and onto the rocks. I walked too far and decided that was far enough before the GPS settled and I saw the cache looking back. Fantastic this is still here after all this time
This is the second time I have been up this mountain and the second time I have been to look for this cache and on both times I had the great pleasure of having EeePees company.
On our first trip the weather was so bad up here we decided not to get out of the car to have a look. Today when we got here the weather wasn't too bad so we went and found a cache before having a look around the farther away towers but by the time we got back to the car the weather had turned with the wind getting quite bad.
After moving the car to as close as practicable to the cache I look a direct route to GZ before having to make a detour around the looming assent in front of me. Once at GZ it didn't take too long before the cache was found.

An excellent weekend's caching away with AlbyDangles, and at the risk of offending others, it doesn't get much better than that; although sometimes enhanced by others.
An early start, with the primary goal being to conquer Mount Barrow, as our previous attempt was aborted as were were blown off the mountain - dreadful conditions.
After completing a few errands in Launceston, we decided, despite the impending bad weather to risk a trip up here, arriving at the gate beyond the car park a bit after 11am.
The weather was closing in a little, but still looked okay, although the wind and occasional scuddy shower prompted the donning of coats, and a beanie for those who could find theirs!
First we enjoyed the walk out to South Barrow, and exploring the area around the TV towers, including the remains of supports where previous tower/s were - no longer a trig point as such.
By the time we'd got back to the car, the trig beacon and other towers were well and truly under cloud, the winds had picked up, and showers increased. It would have been certain madness to attempt the trig point; but we did tough out the elements and headed out to search for this old school cache. Definitely coats and warm layers required, but once at GZ, we were in the lee of the wind, and AlbyDangles made a quick find.
We'll have to come back another time to tackle the trig point survey beacon., as this makes it twice now we've been dispatched off Mount Barrow due to seriously bad weather! Oh well.
Good to tick this one off though.
Cheers, EPs.
RLD4963 and I were visiting the north of the state for a couple of days. This cache was on our 'must find' list as RLD4963 was keen to find the remaining caches that will qualify him to complete the Old School Challenge. This was one of those caches, being one of the oldest caches in Tasmania.
Well this turned out to be quite a search. First we both approached GZ to search for the cache, it was soon apparent that I did not have approrpriate leg coverage (I do love Richea scoparia, but not on bare legs), so then RLD4963 searched for a while. It was probably another 30 minutes or so before I offerred to take over. I was quite determined, we had come a long way, and driven up a gnarly road to search for this cache - it had to be here, we just needed to find it. To be honest I had given up and was just about to let RLD4963 know, when I spotted it - I just needed to be in the right spot to see it. Nice one! There were a few woohoos! after that, and we were extremely glad to add our names to the log.
A true old school challenge cache! Luckily for us, the weather was kind, not cold, not windy, occasionally it clouded over on the summit but never where we were. Thanks for giving us a reason to visit Mount Barrow, and for placing a cache here all those years ago.
Unlike the previous finders, I didn't need it for the old school challenge cache so maybe that's why I've never been to look. It took a little bit of searching as the GPS wasn't fully cooperate. From the correct angle it is actually very easy to see!
Thanks Horus, I'm glad I have a smiley here now
Cheers,

My first time to Mt Barrow
An exhilarating drive up and later down
The views just hit you in the face as soon as step out of the car - impressive!!
Enjoyed the walk to GZ and the thrill of the hunts as I got closer to the cache
Sainted this good one at 1320hrs.
Back to the car and along the way found an old kids swimming pool - who'd swim up here?
Loved it!!!!!
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
The scary drive up made me remember why it's been years since I've been up there and thankfully now we have no reason to go back
Lucky to find because there had been a sprinkling of snow making traversing a bit tricky.
All good with the cache although bags are getting a bit fragile (cold?)
Yep it was freezing but worth it for the find.
TFTC TNLN
All the years driving past and just never got up here
Even the road is gr8 for the 4x4 drive up
Found cache after a quick search all is well at GZ
If published there will be a second cache in the area (more photo's of the views)
thnx for this cache
It was a crystal clear, warm and calm day so there was absolutely nothing stopping me heading up there !!
The drive is superb and even entertaining for the last couple of kilometres.
But once at the summit it is a different world.
Reminds me of mountain tops in Europe, with all those ariels and buildings hanging off the rock outcrops.
But the views are superb and even more so from the cache location.
It took me a couple of minutes to locate the cache hiding under a rock overhang.
The container was intact. That is until I reached in to pick it up and the fragile plastic just splintered
I had expected this from reading last years logs and had a new container in my backpack.
So I signed the log and took the old container with me.
TFTC and views and excuse to drive up here again
the view was really good but drive up was pretty scary,
TNLN thanks for the cache,
There was a real chill in the air on top today,
The views were awesome as ever,
Have been meaning to do this one for quite some time now,
Thanks for the cache Horus
Left Calling card and SL
Thanks for the hunt
Never really took the time to take in the views on offer up here at the time, SO when we got to GZ..... WOW!!!! What a view that is!!!!!!!
Was a very clear day today so could see for miles…..Thanks for bringing me back )
NOW…... Off to that cache down there about 14km away… (Unfortunately, that’s a different story!!!!) TNLNSL……
Just read the last log by FF and also your note Horus.
Container was still as FF described BUT everything inside was still safe and dry.
Placed it back so it was sitting ‘flat’ and also placed a small ‘rock’ against it so as to hold it in that position. (I don’t think that’s giving away any clues), (rock), I think you know what I mean by that… LOL….
I don’t think there is any urgent need to replace it as it’s been here for quite some time and I’m quite sure it will last a while yet…
Might give a Sistema a go this time, although the container it's in at the moment is the original and it seems to have lasted well.
Left glowstick, took one NZ coin and geocoin, removed rusty pill tin and clamp otherwise all contents made it back inside
Got to the rocks screes and the cloud cover dropped about 2000m so now I'm driving in mist.
Found the cache OK and was surprised there was just a small puff of wind but not blowing a gale.
TN L golf ball.
Thanks for the driving workout Horus.

Signed cache with frostbitten fingers and ran to car to defrost. TNLN Thanks for this one...will return to get the peak
It was very, very cold up there. Team Tiges has returned from a short break from caching, and what better way to do that than to get up somewhere high, with extreme weather conditions and great views. We were kindly driven up the mountain by Aloysius, which was new experience altogether, luckily he hadn't forgotten how. The road appeared not to be too much trouble, and old cecil (Klaus' brother) made it to the top okay. The views from the road on the way up were great, unfortunately though, the mountain itself had managed to attract the only bit of cloud in the state! So views up there weren't so good. But nonetheless we enjoyed the cache, there was lots of ice everywhere, and... oh, did I mention it was very very cold? It was quite a challenge to sign the logbook while wearing snow gloves.
The trip back down was fun, cecils brakes just about spontaneously combusted! I wish I was driving, it looked fun! Good old Possum would've loved it!
Thanks Horus, best cache we've done for a while (at least two weeks anyway)!
So up we went!
The road was great, we loved it. Subirubi handled it easily, as did the little Lancer and flat tray ute that were ahead of us. We arrived at the nearest point to GZ, opened the car doors, stepped out ... and ... whoooooosh, we were blown all the way back down the mountain leaving Subirubi behind!! (Just joking!!.. ..)
But hey, it was soooo, soooo windy!!
We arrived at GZ and stood there totally gobsmacked. The view from this cache is a view that has to be seen to be believed. 'Mere words' cannot possibly describe the vista that lay before us!!
The cache is in excellent condition, as were the contents. We took a network cable and left a yo-yo.
Thankyou Horus and Bastvet for leading us to here.
What a fantastic cache, the day was cool, clear and windy,
Great views and the road was a beauty.
No problems finding cache, we camped nearby.
Took a Giraffe and left a racing car.

So I decided to make up for it on sunday afternoon. I took three mates, one of whom (Nath) is a seasoned geo-offsider. For my other two companions (Eric and Brett), this was a new experience.
Road was good fun. My Suby Sportswagon wasn't quite up to Possum's standard, but made light work of the road regardless...
We were treated to a magnificent sunset on the way up, which my attached pics don't do justice to. It was getting dark by the time we left the car to hoof it through the mist.
Eric found the cache, after a brief search by all of us. The container seems to have proved it's worth (not there very long, I know, but it was in A1 condition). We took the automotive fuses and extractor, and left a pad of AMD Athlon post-it notes and a passport-photo sized leather-look picture frame.
All in all, a very pleasant and satisfying jaunt in the country, with great company, great sunset, and potentially great views but for darkness and mist. A very impressive mountain, and highly recommended.
RIP Possum Bourne
