Description
A short walk up a steep track to breathtaking views for all 360 degrees...from Ben Lomond to Flinders Island to Frecinet
The South Sister, near St Marys is a local icon, popular tourist destination, and recreation area for the locals and tourists alike BUT it is earmarked for logging. Many residents and past visitors to the area are very concerned that this will have devastating effects on the biodiversity of the area, the water supply of local residents (including St Marys), damage to eco-tourism and the local economy. The Forest Practice Plan was certified in January 2005 and is deficient in many respects. It fails to assess adequately the risk of landslide should logging proceed as well as risk to water and threatened species.
There are MANY good reasons why South Sister should not to be logged. For more information see here: http://www.southsister.org/
Do this cache...and think about what it would be like without trees.
While you are here might pay to get This as well

A quick stop and examining of the map showed he was in fact correct with the caches being 5kms North of us, so we heading up Top Marshes Road and then along Germantown Road until we turned left onto the track to South Sister. The roads to the track were good dirt roads and we made good time but we had to slow down a bit when we got on the track, the last few meters to the car park were the worst but we made it ok.
It was a short walk to the top and we wanted to find the cache before we lost the light, the GC cache was a quick and easy find but the GCA was a tough one with us ringing a couple of the last finders to ask for help, both provided different information and it took a number of searches and calls before the Toolman came up with the goods in a place I had already searched......
We were very pleased with ourselves let me tell you, next we dashed off to the trig point on the other high point, we wanted to get this fast as it was starting to get dark now, we found it within moments of getting to GZ and now it was just to task of getting down to the car again.
An uneventful trip back to the car before long we were back on the black stuff.
The views were stunning and the sunset amazing, this is a must do cache rich area well worth coming to.
Thanks aloysius7
The drive in and the walk up the hill are most enjoyable. Arriving at the top, the views took over and pondering them took priority over looking for the cache.
Walked down and around to find and log the cache at 1054hrs.
Cache and log are in good condition.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
So glad we came up here. TFTC aloysius7
good reason to come back but I might wait till someone clevererer than me finds it first
hi_pressure would really appreciate the bug being moved on!
left red racing car
took nothing
Only down point was the nasty jack jumper bites my female slave sustained afterwards while we were lunching. Her reaction to them seems to be getting progressively worse.
Thank you for the stunning views!
Found after widening search area and was about to call it quits when....
I looked some more and more and tried somewhere else and listened to the radio coming out of the silver box behind the green building.
Then I found it. TNLNSL. Thanks Mr A.
Swampy
Cache is surviving well, nice logical hide (take note swampy :p).
Thanks Team A. Left swaps with the boss and captain back at the main lookout, so TNLNSL, ETE, ETC, LOL.

Came and looked for this while CraigRat was rummaging over on the otherside of the ridge looking for "Sister" by Swampy. I wasn't having much luck, bit of a needle in a haystack with all the rocks around. Eventually he joined me but was of little help, he just stood on a rock scaring tourists by babbling to himself - you should have seen her run
I eventually found the cache right where I probably would have put it - but had to scramble around a bit to get there. The cache had been found by some workmen recently (see photo), and had been hidden nicely back in it's hiding place - got to love the ethics of some workmen, thanks guys.
I was hoping to log the cache quickly while CraigRat was scaring tourists, but he eventually found me, so it was an easy find for him.
The cache had been eaten into by something, you can clearly see the teeth marks in the photo, I used my caching maintenance kit to tape up the holes to help keep it dry from the fast approaching rain.
Nice hide Team A - loved it up here, highlight of the day in my book. Took Homer Simpson and left carabineer.
Manage to freak out a tourist who didn't see horus near me, so she must have thought I was a madman muttering to myself about the views.
I must confess, I didn't really find the cache, I really found Horus finding the cache (well, he was trying to sign it and re-hide it before I could...)
Had a good look from the fire tower... really good views up here!!
Thanks!
Thanks
