Description

Kintamani Region, bali - virtual cache.

To claim this cache as a find, you are required to submit a photograph of the volcanic lake from anywhere you choose. The cache location is a few minutes down from the top of the hill at a fruit stall. You possibly need not even stop here if you can count quickly. How many panes of glass in a window here? (If you are on a bus tour I may excuse you this, but require proof :D) The reason the virtual is down from the top of the volcano is that the hawkers are everywhere up the top and I don't want to force you into anyplace you may not be able to escape easily! Your GPS must be in the photograph.

Summary - How many panes of glass? Photo of Lake with GPS

Most visitors take only a day tour to Kintamani but it is actually a great place to explore this mountainous region. which includes some of the most magnificent scenery on the island. Luminous green rice fields cover the undulating land, and the revered Gunung Batur (1717m - 5633ft), an active volcano, dominates the landscape. The placid Lake Batur rests in a huge crater, overshadowed by Batur, and the lesser-known but higher, Gunung Abang (2152m - 7062ft). A tiny market village, Kintamani is 1500m (4921ft) above sea level. Palm-leaf (lontar) and stone inscriptions suggest that the village precedes the Majapahit empire. Many of the surrounding villages claim to be "Bali Aga" or indigenous Balinese.

We hired a driver from out the front of the hotel (just walk out the front and ask - saves you a heap rather than going through reception because then there is a 21% tax)and had a whole day trip for six people for AU$60. Lunch in the restaurant at the top is rp100.000 ea and is quite nice.

If you are inclined to help the local people, take your soaps and shampoos (especially the shampoo) from the hotel for the ladies here. They are very poor and shampoo is very much an appreciated luxury for them. Collect them everyday and give to the ladies. Also maybe take toys to Bali for the children.

After a 3am start from Ubud we wizzed past the fruit stall missing the windows. Absolutely wonderful view of the lake from the top of mt Batur, you can even see Lombok from the summit. Definitively recommend the hike up the mt to catch the sunrise.
Be warned though, there is a very well training posse of breakfast stealing monkeys at the top. Keep your treasured breakfast under close watch Wink

Found on the way to/from breakfast at the Lake View restaurant - had to count fast because I was in a group tour to do the downhill bike ride & didn't want to try to explain why I was interested in this particular shop! Thanks for this virtual Cached & for confirming my answer.

Decided to incorporate this find with a downhill bicycle trek to Ubud. It was a really fun day. Started early at the restaurant overlooking the stunning lake. Was able to get the required info as a 'drive by'.

Visited this magnificent area this morning and had a very grand breakfast in a restaurant overlooking the splendiferous view, after driving up from Ubud. (Hint - get here early to beat all the hawkers.) We then proceeded down the hill again, back to Ubud, this time on the top of mountain bikes, through quiet rural backstreets, visiting numerous and fascinating aspects of the "real" Bali. A fantastic day was had by all.

After hiring a driver, and passing through several towns along the way, we finally arrived at Kintamani, stopping for lunch at the Panca Yoga Restaurant where a buffet meal costs 60000 Rp ($8.75 Au) per person (the black rice pudding is really good tucker). The restaurant is perched on the rim and overlooks the crater and also Lake Batur. The views of the crater, the lava flow (from 1997) and the lake were extraordinary with no cloud to spoil our view other than a few wisps near the top of the cone. After lunch and some more photos, we drove down towards Penelokan for a look around before coming back out of the crater and heading down to the cache waypoint where we 'did a deal' for some fruit. The price charged for the fruit was extravagant but paid gladly
Thanks to cached for an interesting cache, done backwards by us since we came up the 'other way'.

Have been there several time and it is still worth the trip. This is something you dont see in Australia. There are so many great places to visit here and this is one of the best.
