Description

Melbourne's Official Battlecache

The cache is currently located at: S37° 49.568' E145° 1.044'(J9 Hit on Carrier)

Melbourne's Official Battlecache

Welcome to the "Melbourne's Official Battlecache". Just like the board game ("Battleships") you guess a square that contains a ship take a shot by hiding the cache in this square then you are told if you got a hit or a miss. Once all ships are sunk the Game is over and the player who has most hits is awarded the win. The winner can proved Leja1965 with the start position of the next game.

How to play

Move the cache from one square to another square. Report the new cache location via Geocaching.com.au and Leja1965 will make a log of hit/miss or miss fire. Then someone else will move the cache to a new location. A square is represented by the grid below Each square is 2 minutes wide and high starting at S 37° 30 E 144° 44

The Battlecache has one new rule. The concept of a mine. One Square will be a mine if the player places the cache in this square the mine explodes and the player is hospitalised for the next 5 moves.

Example:

Cache is placed at S 37° 34.345 E 144° 47.344 then square S 37° 34 E 144° 46 or C2 is the shot location.

Current Game

Bearer of seal envelop containing a copy if the ship positions is Sacada. He can play as long as envelop is not opened.

The Rules

  • Play fair and ethically
  • The cache is to be hidden within normal requirements for hiding a cache.
  • The cache should be retrieved, hidden and logged within 24 hours if possible.
  • A player can not take two shots. The player must wait for another player to move the cache
  • The cache cannot be moved to a new square until the result of the shot has been added to the Log by Leja1965
  • Leja1965 decision is final. :-)
  • Players can have multiple finds on this cache as the cache does move around.
  • Another person will be given a seal envelop with the Ships positions to verify at end of game that Leja1965 has not been cheating.
  • A miss fire is reported when Leja1965 believes the rules have been broken and no hit or miss will be given. The result will be Miss Fire with the reason why.
  • Optional Rule After Retrieving the cache if you wish to make life easy for other cacher attach one of the paper tags found inside the cache to nearby tree. This will hopfully let other caches not waste time finding a moved cache.

The Cache container is meant to represent a Sub. Please feel free to add to it. Send me pics and I will add somehow.

Finaaly got a week off work and my first holiday in nearly 18 months. Headed down to Bussleton with the family and set up at the Catholic Church Youth camp next to the sea and did some relaxing. On the second ot third day went out to grab some caches in the area and drove across to Dunsborough, Cape Naturliste, Yallingup, Moses Rock, Injidup Spa, Prevally and across to Margaret River. There was so much to see and a couple of caches took a while to get to and so i lost some time that i had planned to grab more caches. So i grabbed what i could and eventually headed back to camp. I came out the next day to finish the hunt and was able to clean up all the rest of the caches. I found this cache after a short search and signed the log and Battlecache was in the car with a few other moveables and off on another journey. Thanks for this cache Leja1965. I will endeavour to get it back closer to victoria this year. ClappingClappingClan Minotaur

Out in the bush. You're looking for plastic cylindrical painted black.

Please remember to move along a MOVEABLE geocache in a timely manner. 3 months with no movement and no indication it is safe results in the caches being incorrectly archived. As the logger has indicated that the cache is still with them after more than 3 months this listing is being unarchived.

02-Feb-18
Still in my hands, to be moved on next road trip.
Please un-archive.

This geocache appears to be MIA so we'll archive it to stop it turning up in the search lists. If the geocache can be confirmed as being in place or it turns up somewhere else in the future, the owner can reactivate this listing by placing an "unarchived" log against it.

According to Wikipedia...
Whiteman Park is a 4,000-hectare (9,900-acre; 15 sq mi) bushland area located 22 km (14 mi) north of Perth, Western Australia. The park is in the suburb of Whiteman, in the Swan Valley in the upper reaches of the Swan River. It encompasses the source of Bennett Brook - an important nyoongar location, and source of mythology of the Wagyl and stories about aboriginal occupancy of the area. Whiteman Park is known for its biodiversity, including over 450 endemic plants and more than 120 vertebrate animals (some of which are rare and endangered). Over 17% of Western Australian bird species occur in Whiteman Park, including migratory birds attracted to the habitat provided by Bennett Brook and associated wetlands including Grogan's Swamp, a Conservation Category Wetland. The state government purchased the land from a variety of private owners in 1978, to protect the underlying aquifer as a drinking water source for Perth. The major owner was Lew Whiteman (1903–1994), after whom the park is named.
Whiteman Park includes bushwalking trails, bike paths, sports facilities and playgrounds. The park is also host to heritage transport groups and their collections: The Perth Electric Tramway Society runs a 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) electric tram journey around the park, running a tram that used to be in service on the Fremantle network. Caversham Wildlife Park; Bennett Brook Railway; The Tractor Museum of Western Australia; The Western Australian Motor Museum; Bus Preservation Society of Western Australia; and Revolutions Transport Museum.

This cache has had a dose of de ja vu. A few months ago a Melbourne cacher dropped this one in to my office during one of his visits to Echuca. I dropped it off to Mrs The Morris in Bendigo and it then headed back to Melbourne.
Well, he's done it again. It's now sitting on my office floor along with a few other moveables but is heading to a new home in a few days.

Thanks again, Leja1965, for another smilie.

Picked up and now in my office in Echuca.

A cacher from down south dropped into my office a couple of weeks ago and left a bag of GCA moveable caches tucked in the corner. It wasn't until I today that I remembered the bag and decided I should do something about it.

It seems this is now just a standard moveable cache so there is no need for it to rush back to the game area.

Thanks, Leja1965, for this moveable cache.

I found this one in our garage after caughtatwork had been out caching. I was too sick and it was too cold to go out today.

05-Jul-15
Picked this cache up as the last for the day before heading home, quite satisfied with our haul of 4. I've had this one a few times before, but hey, a movable cache in a place I haven't found it before is a good as a new cache to find. Benefit is that I get to move it and let someone else find it.

These caches will all be heading to the Pathtags, Geocoins, Moveable Caches, Travelbugs Swap Meet next weekend, so if you're interested in movable caches, come along and log a few which you may not have seen before.

Thanks leja1965 for the cache.

I needed a daily find, preferably a GCA one, and I have been keeping my eye on this one as it was one of the few near to home. Today I noticed EuDes had found it and my heart sunk, but it turned out it had been left in situ Smile Escaping work on time for a change and with the traffic reasonably decent too I had a good run to near GZ where I too found the carpark gates locked shut due to the industrial action... Unfortunately I missed getting a roadside park and then found myself on the stretch with the segregated bike zone so no parking and no chance of a U-turn so it was down to the round-about and back again... Parking on the east side is a bit tight with not much width but thankfully no trouble came of it. Anyway, I walked to the cache with light fading fast, and the odour of Flying Fox pee in the air (ugh) as I remembered from my last caching visit to this area. I didn't have any trouble with muggles, and after a search and a quick check of the hint I found it, took it away from the path a bit (not realising there was the road and footpath so close in the other direction) to log my find. I too returned it to its hiding place as when I was 3/4 the way to GZ I realised I didn't have my caching backpack and it was too big to slip into a pocket so I decided it was safest here.... TFTC

23-Jun-12
Given that it looks like it might be "game over player 1" for this concept cache Crying or Very sad, I decided to drop by for a look to see if it's still a viable find at least. That's where the fun began though Surprised! Bellbird Park is closed for industrial action and there is no standing anywhere near GZ so in the end, we parked on top of the hill and walked down. Just as we arrived, a bushwalking muggle was passing by and I was beginning to think I was jinxed Shocked. However, once the coast was clear, the great coordinates, not to mention a squiz at the hint Embarassed, had me with the stash in hand at 15:25.

I left the cache in situ for wiser heads who follow to relocate.

TNLNSL. Thanks leja1965.

As far as I could tell, it's reverted to a normal movable. I did try to contact the CO with no luck. I looked at the game board and moved it to a new square just in case but the game hasn't been played for 4 years.

18-Jun-12
What's the story with this one - haven't seen a CO game result log from the previous move, or am I missing something? Is the game play still active or has it been reduced to a regular moveable cache (again)?....

I almost logged another find on this cache last week when I found it in the boot of my car but decided against it. Today I headed out with the kids and we hid it by the Yarra near where Melbourne's flying foxes live. The kids were suitably impressed with the wildlife and helped me find the hiding place just a little bit off the path.

This one has been sitting off the co-ords for a very long time and in my area for a while so today the kids and I decided to put it back on the board game and hopefully the game will continue. So we picked it up, well geoson found it, and then said, why are we taking this with us. I then had to tell him about movable caches, then we went for a drive through traffic to place it in a park. We left it there and picked up a few caches in the area as I haven't been here before. Thanks for lettign me play but probably won't play again for a while. My first movable.... thanks Very Happy

I have placed the cache near the bay of Port Phillip at a location that I drive past daily. Elwood Park extends from St.Kilda to near Brighton, although you can ride your bike almost endlessly for miles and miles in each direction.
Parking is easy, but parking meters are in use at this spot, but you might be OK if you watch for them or have someone at the car. Dont blame me if you get a ticket!

There are plenty of other caches in the area, including a Trig point and a 'wherigo' that starts only meters away. So bring your bike and have some fun (maybe next week if the rain stops)!

Humph, not giving up THAT easily, I took the long way to the Town Center in Point Cook to give this GZ the once over - again.

I think the clue was a bit deceiving.
I'm going to blame the bf! I think he didn't look here properly the first time just coz he wanted to go home 'o)

(I'm being good and have decided to log my DNF on this one for the other week.)
I thought after being cooped up all weekend doing my homework, I would treat myself to finding a geocache. I FINALLY finished Sunday arvo and somehow convinced the bf to drive us to this position after visiting The Gate.
Looked for a while, was getting darker, and colder and the bf was getting restless so I decided to give up.. *sigh*
The only cache I attempted and I couldn't find it boo hoo...

I was visiting my mother-in-law for dinner, and decided to go for a walk to rehide this one, while they all watched some rubbish on Foxtel... why do people pay good money for such crap on TV? Found a safe place for the cache to hide for a while, even though it's not on the official game board - the owner's not tracking the game anyway, so no problems. See hint for further details if you need it.
