Where are the best Christmas lights

To get into the festive spirit I thought I'd create a locationless cache to allow people to log and also to find out where best Christmas lights are. Individual houses are good but streets are definately better. To log this cache simply take a waypoint at the start of the street where the lights are situated and list the street name and suburb/state the lights are situated in here. To respect individual households privacy please don't post street numbers, only street names. I realise photos are hard to do at night with a GPS in so just the log with an waypoint is fine. To start things off I'll post the co-ords of the first cache I completed which is No 178 by Grank. If you do this at night you will see a well done house from there located in Wyoming Road. Oh and by the way: MERRY CACHEMAS (CHRISTMAS)from Mr & Mrs C.O.D!

Sydney Road in Hornsby Heights is well known as our local Christmas mad street. While I didn't go this year I have visited in the past and the number of viewers was absolutely crazy. It' referenced at this link as well as a few other sites if you do a google search. Thanks Cache On Demand.

GZ is for the beginning of Hopetoun Street in Northcote.

The owner of the display was sitting proudly at the back of her display wishing passers by a happy new year last night, and was delighted for me to photograph her work.

A great idea for a locationless Cache On Demand. Many thanks.

Late in the season and many of the better displays have been packed away. Came upon this meagre display in Trevallyn in northern Tasmania.. thanks..!!

This house is between our house and the scouts hall where GeoDirk and HanorahTLG are spending their time. As such for about six weeks of the year I walk past it.

A small street but all houses are showing their best Christmas lights. Jerrabomberra Hill Road in Jerrabomberra NSW. The end house was taking their lights down though, so looks like I just made it in time to log this cache.

Another opportunity to go out Christmas light hunting and finding yet another unique light display. I love the effort people put into this, it really brightens my Christmas so much, and that of my children. And this is probably the one place you can come to get a list of lights to go and see if you're in that particular location.

Out and about and saw these Christmas lights on Christmas night. A stunning display. Thanks for the fun locationless, will use this find as part of the States of the Nation games

A cruise around the neighbourhood on Christmas Eve and we came across this gem on the West Tamar Highway, Tasmania. Requisite picture attached. Thanks Cache On Demand for providing this locationless cache.

Although there's an entire street of Christmas lights on the other side of town I'm too lazy to drive over there. I grabbed a crappy picture of the lights on home of my neighbour.

Not far from home we found this stunning display in New World Ave Trevallyn. When the kids were younger it was a tradition to drive around admiring the Christmas lights on Christmas Eve. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and for creating this locationless.

Ramsden Street, Somerset. When two of our granddaughters arrived for the Christmas weekend they were really excited by the Christmas lights in our street, they live out in the country a bit and a three year old's bedtime usually means going for a drive to look at Christmas lights is out of the question. So we went for a stroll to look at the four houses in the street with lights up. They thought it was great and I think they were a bit disappointed that we hadn't put any up like that. The attached photo is of the house across the street from us, not a great photo because it wasn't quite dark yet at 9.18pm! TFTC

Each year after school breaks up for Christmas we take the girls out looking for lights. It is still very popular in Hobart as one of the radio stations has a couple of $500 prizes. One of our favourites is only a few minutes from home. I captured the girls in the front yard (visitors are welcome) and we made a donation on their little box to help the local Women's Shelter.
Great idea for a cache. Thanks Cache On Demand

I love the simplicity of this one. The is the Rural Fire Station at Yarramundi. As we looked at it from the car, there was plenty of ambient light on the building and surrounds, but the exposure of the shot didn't pick it up.

Well last night was Xmas night, Santa had been and gone in the early hours of the morning and was able to easily find our house as 12yr old Charlie 4 had festooned the whole of the front of house, the roof and the yard with lights. He did such a good job that he even made the front page of the Margaret River Mail paper, and page 3 and was in the paper again the next week for good measure. During the evening there was a steady stream of light watchers driving past and walking up and down the street while Charlie played xmas music and patrolled the front yard to keep stray toddlers from touching his display. Next year he plans to turn it up a notch and get a computer light controller which will flash the lights in sequence with the music. Cant wait for that!

Christmas Night and our family of 8 went out in the car to look at Christmas lights along the Boulevard in a north eastern suburb of Melbourne. We parked and walked up and down the street. The lights were awesome and the households in the area had done an amazing job. The photos don’t do justice to what we saw.TFTC

A few places in this area put up some great xmas lights every year, it brings no end of visitors to the area of a night time.

I received a facebook invite to see these lights and made the trip to Mawson Lakes in South Australia on Christmas Eve. We had a lovely night there, however the traffic just to get to the house made things rather difficult. Why oh why do people think it is OK to just drive past when there are hundreds of people standing in the street.

It was not till we got home and uploaded the photos did I realise I could also claim a GCA smiley for this and a claim for State of the Nation summer games.

I have uploaded some photos but have also included the link to the house owners website for more spectacular photos http://www.hamiltonchristmaslights.com/ Very Happy

If you drive up this street, you will see a house with a yard full of Christmas lights on the left - and next to it one which had a paltry few strings until the cockatoos ate them!!

24-Dec-17
We visited This house in Brisbane last December and it had to be the best organised setup i have ever seen. All lights were synchronised to music which meant that the kids and I watched it for around 45 minutes as each song was different. I hope it is on again this yat

24-Dec-17
Every Christmas these lights are turned on from the end of Nov to Christmas eve. They are well known in the Blaxland/Mt. Riverview area. We always go for a walk to look at them. There is also a donation well to raise fun for the local RFS.

These lights are at Coolara St, Tugun.

Since it is almost Christmas, we decided to visit a fabulous Christmas Lights display. The people who live here have been doing this for 17 years and on at least one year they won the best display prize for the local council competition. But this year will be their last year. We arrived just before they turned on the lights at dusk and we were lucky to get a park two streets away, when we returned to the car, new cars arriving would have had to park three streets away. It just shows you how much this display is loved.

Went to visit ACTchil and just had to take a photo of the awesome light display of all the houses in the cultersac. Tftc Cache On Demand

We live in a over 50's resort and each year nearly all 207 houses decorate their homes with very festive Christmas lights. There is also a competition for the best house and also the best street. With about 10 prizes up for grabs. Each year the lights are better than the year before. TFTC Clan Minotaur

We had already completed the Wyndham Lights Virtual last year.
This year we had a "muggle mate" along on a big caching day out around Geelong so we took her to a few waypoints on our way home.
This display is in Foster St Werribee.
We particularly liked the inflatable Santa Kombi.

The lights in Dunrobin Street, Shepparton are very pretty, a few houses have put lights on. It's nowhere near as spectacular though as the ones we saw in Werribee last week when we did the GC Multi Wyndham Lights.
But this quiet little street is looking nice and bright, and full of Christmas cheer.

The display reveals first Christmas story of baby Jesus. Story goes, family living here own large Christmas decoration shop in Joondalup. Christmas lights display also great at homes on adjoining Playford Mews.

The Nook in Watsonia North.

This little Court has been going all out with the Xmas lights for years. Almost all the houses get into the action and it's always a favourite when we take the kids out for a drive around this time of the year.

I found this place years ago it use to be by the river but they moved up to this end of QUEANBEYAN in Meehan place, they have a fund raiser box out the front to help children, there is also a GC 61ze in the park I have use the coordinates for the park as that's the best place to park as u walk though and look at all the lights
My kids love this house.
Happy and safe holidays and merry Xmas all .

Best decorated hous with Christmas lights we have seen so far this year/
This is one to stop with the kids.

One of the BEST streets in the St George area is Madrers Ave, Kogarah. The house down the end has been the main house for years and the neighbours have slowly joined in, not everyone, but at least 80%. A must do every Christmas.

This house was super cool. Had all the lights performing to music which you could listen to in your car radio but also had speakers for kids to go out and dance

We had been out celebrating a couple of Birthdays in our family tonight. On the way home we were keeping an eye out for Christmas lights. Certainly nowhere near as many as there used to be in this area. Finally settled on a few side streets off Poath Rd. Ellendale seemed to be the most well lit tonight.

Today we concentrated on finding caches that fitted our criteria for the Clan Minotaur Summer Scavenger Series Clan Minotaur and this was one of them.

Located in Lyall Rd Berwick.

Love the memory of driving round the suburbs looking for Christmas lights thanks for trip down memory lane and for this locationless Cache on Demand.

Driving through town after netball, I passed the most gorgeous set of Christmas lights on Shakespeare St, Traralgon which perfectly lit up a historic home and flickered in all the right ways. Another pretty bunch can be found just around the corner in College Avenue.

Well Lucky for me my neighbours all put on a good show at Christmas. So this is a short stroll down the street and around the corner. You start at the coordinates listed and there are 6 well lit up houses on Edenvale and Ridgewood Streets Underwood QLD. Now I just have to put up with a procession of cars driving up and trying to turn around in the no through road up my end. Merry Christmas 2016...Summer Scavenger Series. Richardson Street, Hughesdale

Every year since we moved in to the area, this house has had a fantastic display at Christmas. There used to be another house in the street that was similarly spectacular, but they seem to have stopped.

One of the even better things about this display is they have sweets for the kids, and take donations for charity for you to come in and look at the various bits.

I'm using this as a claim for my Summer Scavenger Series.

Thanks for the locationless cache Cache On Demand

Summer Scavenger Hunt find. I was supposed to log this but forgot. With the Summer Scavenger Hunt in full swing it came as a reminder. There used to be a street that was well known for Christmas lights and they would put on a good display with lots of people coming to have a gander. Sadly Sad this is no longer. You have to drive around everywhere looking for light displays now and some are not much in effort. Something is better than nothing though. I found this house.

Some nice lights at our place, a few better up the road! I liked these because they weren't gaudy.

27-Nov-16
We have been putting up Xmas lights for many years, mostly for the entertainment of our children who love them
This year my 11yr old son decided that he wanted to be in charge of putting up the lights
Usually it takes me about 2 weeks to get the lights up, doing a bit each day after work
Charlie managed to get most of them done in a day and has been making mum buy more lights to add to the collection as some were not working anymore
The co-ords are for the street x road of Brookfield Ave and Bottlebrush Drive in Margaret River WA
Since we have been doing lights some other houses have started to put their own lights up

We visited Adelaide just after Christmas 2015 and found the city Christmas lights were quite spectacular even some of the buildings had pictures projected on them. I took a photo of a building with a gingerbread house projected onto it but it did not photograph well. I photographed the tree which was a constantly changing display of lights and a Christmas present in lights in Rundle Mall

This remains the best place in Leura to see some very spectacular Christmas lights.

This year, the owners have increased the display, which we hardly thought possible!

My last contribution for 2013. Every year this house has a good display and eac year they get better but sadly this is the last year as the owner has been given a redundancy from his job and is thinking about leaving town.

These lights are at a house on a large block in South Street Nanango. The couple who live here spend a lot of time, effort and I suppose Money on this display every year. They have no children at home but the Grand Kids do visit. They do a wonderful job every year.

11-Dec-13
Located on the corner of Ballawinnie Rd and Liena Rd in Lindisfarne, Tasmania. A nice set-up, not overdone, but with quite some effort put in. There were a couple of moving components (the reindeer), and the owner of the house (one would presume) was visible through the window (although not visible in this photo).

Just got around to logging this one after getting back from the xmas holidays. These lights are found in Forest Hill, NSW. This is one of the towns on the outskirts of Wagga Wagga. Some of the houses out this way put on a terrific display of lights for all of the locals to visit. The local council also put on bus tours to show off all of the fantastic lights in the Wagga area. I'd rate the lights on this street as an 8 out of 10.
