Description

An easy cache near the Princes Highway.

This is a nice easy cache hidden off a road near the Princes Highway, between Sale and Bairnsdale. Just the thing for breaking up a long drive from Melbourne down towards Lakes Entrance. The cache is a 1L Sistema Lunchbox.

It's over a year since the last visitors, but the cache and log are still good. I made sure to cover it well to help keep the sun off it. TFTC toholio.

#GA2137 - 16:50; Day one of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After collecting quite a few caches already today, we made our way to this one as we expected to find a large posse of moveables nearby. After recent rain, we decided to leave the geomobile near a large pool of water which was blocking the road and cover the last couple of hundred metres on foot. Once at GZ, the cache was quickly found, log signed, moveables collected and we were on our way again. TFTC toholio Very HappyClan Cerberus

Thanks toholio....great to find these older GCA cache still going strong.

GCA 1747. Found during a caching run around the area with specimenX.

This was about the limit heading west for our trip this long weekend. Turned around to fill in some gaps on the run home. Nice to find this unloved cache, and I left some pressies for the next GCA-er to come along.

TFTC !!

On way home from a caching trip with gwd.aussie when he commented that there was a cache nearby. Took a quick detour of the highway to log the find.

Thanks toholio

It was about time I stop to sign this log.
I had been past (on the main road) many times, mainly on the way to other caches.

The pot hole at the start of the road is deeper then I thought it would be.
But my 2 wheel drive made it.

The cache is fine, and dry.

Out caching the D@geo
Thank you for the cache toholio

A quick find on the way to the Oz Mega. It was an interesting drive along narrow dirt roads with the camper in tow.
Thanks for showing us this quaint little place.

Nice little drive of the main drag between Stratford and Bairnsdale. Years ago, knew the folk who owned the house on the corner. Not now, so drove past, negotiated the waterhole and stopped at GZ. Had cache in hand quickly. Cache is dry and in good condition. Took orange torch, left luminous spider. SL

Found 1.30pm
Parked at the end of the track and walked in, found where the puddle would be but it looks like it's been a while since it's been wet. As we approached GZ there was something that looked like a good place to hide a cache, soon signed the log.

Thanks toholio for a GCA cache

A pleasant diversion off the highway, and as I entered the final track my only trepidation was whether or not I would find somewhere to turn around the box on wheels, or would I have to back all the way out (wouldn't be the first time Embarassed )? A quick find, and then a little further on I was able to easily turn around, though I did want to venture further, time was against me. Thanks toholio for the cache

Today was the third day of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland. We visited a number of towns and areas today between Sale and Bairnsdale and we were lucky enough to find some caches along the way. Despite being overcast at times and some very infrequent showers, we have had an excellent day. We left our car on the side of the road not wanting to risk a hire car on this track. We were greeted by barking dogs in the neighbouring property but, thanfully, they were in their enclosure. It was a short walk to GZ and the location was quickly found. However, as the cache was extracted from its hide a great horde of aggressive mosquitos rose from teh hide and began to attack. As one of us signed the log, the other fought these little b...s off. We left very quickly with a number of bites and a little less blood. TFTC

Drove up the track through the huge puddle.
Went too far, so had to turn around and come back. Not recommended in a 2WD in the wet, that puddle is pretty deep.
A fairly straight forward cache

A pleasant walk with the dogs. I was enjoying it so much, we went past the cache, and had to go back - I almost forgot all about why we were there!

A fun little detour from the highway.
The cache's neighbours at the start of the lane were home today and probably wondered where I was going when I pointed the geomobile down there Smile
I wondered where I was going too when I pointed the geomobile down there Surprised
Sure enough, just after the puddle, there was the cache hiding in the flat fields.

TFTC.

Wasn't going for a ride today, then I spotted this cache close to home. Got co-ords and off. Laneway could be interesting if it was wet.
Nice easy find, signed logbook. TN Left US dollar note.
Thanks for the search.

My little old Lancer has done quite a bit of '4wding' but even then I wasn't game to drive through the puddle.

Walked the final 200m, and nice easy find.

Thanks.

Entry to GZ located nearly at dusk. Upon nearing the cache I was confronted with a water filled hole across the road. Being in my son's new Subaru Imprezza, had to think long and hard as to walk the remaining 200m or to take a punt and drive semi through the puddle (lake). Drove through easily in the end but at a fair angle. Perhaps that is the Shallow Lagoon the road is named after.

Yay, our first GCA cache!
We were actually heading out tonight to try for the FTF on "Sparse Park" (GCTEFH) and just happened to note from discussion on the forums that this cache was in the same area.
We hadn't realised that this one was close to home because we didn't recognise the location it was listed under (Munro). It is good to finally have one under the belt.
Thanks toholio

Found by Mary & David at 1245. Having checked out the most excellent Stratford Bakery for lunch, we were re-energised and ready for the hunt. However, in the extreme heat, we were very glad of the easy terrain and difficulty ratings. Good to see new caches and cachers active out this way. Took bear, left ladybird candle. Our thanks to toholio.
