Description

A cache to take you near the site of Colebrook Park.

Welcome to our first cache placement. This site was created in 1986 and we were surprised at the wet feature turned on for us at time of placement. This new feature has been a boon for the local economy and farmers. The cache is named in honor of 'Colebrook Park' a property that is somewhere in the centre of the new feature. Colebrook Park was a two-storey sandstone house built by Andrew Tolmey between 1828 and 1831. In 1842, the bushranger Martin Cash absconded from the Jerusalem Gang and broke into the house to get provisions for his escape. In 1839, a steam-powered flour mill, "Tolmey's Mill", was established - the fourth steam-powered flour mill in Van Diemens Land. Further information is available in the nearby town originally known as Jerusalem. Cache is a 1 litre Sistema. At time of placement cache included stashnote, logbook, pencil and sharpener and spare zip bags. Swaps were dog toy, bubble bath, bubble mix, baseball-mitt buttons, keyring, blue stars, pair of star floating candles and a dinosaur. Beware of fishing muggles, they can pop-up unexpectedly. While camping is not permitted here, there are public toilets and dogs are allowed. Access is available 24 hours, just be careful near GZ as it is steep. You will need to climb a stile to get to GZ but it is well built for the purpose. Enjoy!

Thanks for this cache Fairly Magic. Took a walk to GZ with EeePees after a day out finding apple caches. Cache container is damaged as reported by EeePees. Really enjoyed the walk, saw a few fishing muggles on the dam and on the shore.

Hi Fairly Magic, thanks for the cache, and for getting me to finally stop here after driving past it for decades. We enjoyed a nice walk around the dam, with a quick find as reward.
Cache lid is split with pieces missing, but is so far managing to stay dry.
Found with Lil Rafa on the return leg of our geo-trip to complete the TTAI Apple series.
A good day with great company.

On the way South from working on the Northwest Coast we stopped off to have a leg stretch and a loo break, it was a short if windy walk round to this side of the dam, I did think it was going to be a hard find but I got lucky and it was the first place I looked.

The cache was dry inside and this surprised me since the lid has a big hole in it, log book is fine also, I would have replced the container but since this was a spur of the moment thing I had not spares with me sorry.

Thanks for the cache and the views of the dam from this side are very good and I would never have seen if not for caching.

Headed back from Hobart his way and worked my way into GZ....and up to the gate. The took to Shanks Pony...up and over the sty and along the road to the wall. Then down the other side and soon had the cache in hand. As others have said, the lid has a hole in it, but the cache is well protected by the rock/s covering it....so all should be good. The log is nice and dry at the moment.

Grabbed a photo water being released from the dam, which was rather surprising looking at the general water level.

Thanks Fairly Magic......

We stopped to look for this cache today on out way to the cache of the year awards in Oatlands. This was our second attempt here as the weather was too bad for the walk last time. Coincidently that visit was as we returned home from last years cache of the year event.
Lid still broken and contents damp but the log is dry in its bag. Kids did a few swaps. enjoyed the walk TFTC

Have had this one on the radar for a long time as we drive past regularly to visit family. Today was the day to give it a go. A pleasant walk to GZ under dark skies and a quick find, then a quick walk back to the cachemobile before the rain started. The lid of the cache is broken but everything inside is in good order. TFTC

Unfortunately the lid has perisher and needs replacing

A lovely walk to GZ and waited for a fisherman to walk up the road before finding the cache.

This cache has been on my to do list for to long and finally today I had time to go and find it. The walk was very pleasant and tree were numerous fishermen doing what fishermen do best - chatting and telling tales about the size of the one that got away. When I arrived at the dam it was worried that I had to go down and back up again. Lucky I relooked at the gos and I was only 100 metres from the cache. So a quick walk down and the cache was found by geo kid e in he second place we looked. The lid has a piece mising from the middle at one end - say 5 cent piece size, so it is not weather proof anymore in any stretch of the imagination. Speaking to a fisherman on the way back we found out that the department of fisheries had placed 150 large fish in he lake about 8 days ago. No wonder the number of fishermen!!!!!

Thanks for the cache fairly magic

Lid is cracked on cache and needs replacing.

Had heard a lot about this feature but never been here, thanks for giving us a reason to visit. The dam is full and bigger than we expected. Passed a couple of muggle fisherpeople but we ended up out of their sight. Lid on cache is cracked and needs replacing TFTC

Laughing a bit windy there today, and the dam was about 1 inch from spilling over. tftc fairy magic

12-Jun-11
Way to many fishermen so will have to come back.

21-May-11
Nice early morning stroll. Wind was keen but not as keen as all the fishermen. It was like standing room only! Great spot not walked out to the dam before, thanks for bringing us out here. TFTC, TNLN.

16-Jan-11
Lovely walk. Great to see the dam full. TFTC

06-Nov-10
Dam nice place. Smile

Lots of muggles about, fishing or camping in front of a No Camping sign.

The Cache wasn't too far away according to the GPS, but it stayed that distance as we walked right round it. Could have taken the direct route - but only if you wanted to swim and mountain-climb.

This is a very nice spot. Wouldn't have known about it apart from caching. The other side of the spill-way was interesting, it's been washed back to bare rock.

TFTC!

06-Nov-10
A few fishermen trying their luck here today, but GZ is out of their way. A little further to walk than I expected, but very interesting to see the geography and geology of the area. TFTC.

11-Jun-10
A very cold fisher muggle the only movement here today except for the snow wind! Cache 280, closing in on the 300 slowly.

14-May-10
Over recent years we had heared a great deal about this site - the construction of the dam, the initial benefits of the irrigation scheme and the despair as drought hit and the amount of water being held dropped dramatically. Thankfully, the dam appeared nearly full and both famers and fishers must be enjoying the current situation. TFTC

22-Apr-10
Watched the fishermen pull in 3 nice trout while I was waiting for a clear run to gz. TNLN Thanks

11-Jan-10
Got this one at 1657hrs after playing golf at Colebrook. celebrated my win before leaving the club and was put on the breathalyser at Murdunah. So this cache and the one I did later saved me from going down after blowing into the little white tube. Thank God for Geocaching!!! Have caught heaps of trout out of these waters and even more redfin. Love the area. TFTC and cheers OldSaint.

10-Sep-09
Well worth the walk as the dam was overflowing and very spectacular. Thanks.

22-Jun-09
I have regularly driven passed this dam for many years and have watched the water level drop. This is the first time I have been in for a look. TFTC

12-Oct-08
Thanks for showing us a pretty little fishing spot Fairly Magic. Its a shame the water level is so low. This would be a magnificent lake when it was full. TNLN. TFTC.

Found this on our way from Hobart to Scamander. It was great to stretch our legs. Shame about the low level in the dam.

Found by Facitman and the Facit Family at 14:05
We were looking for a leg stretch cache as we traveled from Ross to Port Arthur and this one looked the goods. Turned off the main road and made our way to the parking area to find one other car parked. A single occupant was in the passenger seat so for a minute we wondered if another cacher might be visiting. Checked the GPSr and saw that we had a nice stroll ahead so climbed the stile and walked around to GZ. Like a few dams/reservoirs we've visited recently in Victoria the lack of water is all apparent Sad Arrived at GZ and the cache-magnet s-facit found her 7th cache of our trip. Signed log and was just re hiding when an official looking chap drove up, headed down to the mechanical worked then back to the public facilities. Not the only time we would see this fellow today!
TNLN
Thanks Fairly Magic for a nice walk to an interesting bit of engineering. Too bad it isn't spilling water any more (Wonder if it will ever reach the obvious high water mark again?)

05-Mar-08
After talking to gspblu about the possibility of catching a fish, as well as an unfound cache, we just couldn’t resist trying for both on our day off.
While Mr red tag fished the area below the dam wall I went in search of the cache. Found it eventually after looking from a certain direction.
The dam is the lowest I have ever seen and the fish are just as hard to catch as ever. A few muggles stood at the end of the boat ramp looking very frustrated. There was no way their campervan was going to be able to launch their boat when the ramp fell a good 50 metres short of the water.
TFTC Fairly Magic. Great location for a cache
As gspblu said there are definitaely fish there as a monster size trout broke the water less than 5 metres in front of me. His huge back arched up out of the water and the size of his tail was massive.

01-Mar-08
Found easily today while looking for fish.
Water level is very low and at the rate that it is being let go down the river it will get lower still.
Thanks Fairly magic

09-Dec-07
Nice fishing area. Found easy. Took jewelry box, left ear plugs. Thanks

30-Oct-07
This is one of my work areas and I was using my gps for work and noticed a cache close by. Easily found but well hidden and in good condition. This feature is spectacular when spilling. Thanks for the cache Fairly Magic

04-Mar-07
After a circuit that took in the Spin-In at Bothwell (and cache) and a nice gorge at Rhyndaston, a container full of blackberries along the way, a final stop here was most appreciated - especially by the fluffy puppy! Excellent cache! Thanks Fairly Magic. TNLN.

10-Jan-07
I wasn't quite in the mood for another cache after the Gorger incident, however decided I'd regret it if I didn't head in and get this one while in the area. It'd be nice to see this one after a bit of rain, it'd be great to see spilling. I used the outlet pray to clean all the grease and what not off my hands, nice and cool, just what I needed. Thanks Fairly Magic, nice spot.

03-Dec-06
Got 'im this time! Sog looked down and saw she was standing on it. Can't figure out why we missed it before, but our GPSr was a little inaccurate for a while. Took mini earphones, left stress softball. A nice place to visit twice. Thanks Fairly Magic.

24-Nov-06
Easy find once GPSr settled down.Coords are good.A few fisher muggles around..luckily they can't see you.First time to this dam...bigger than I had pictured it.Another fishing spot geocaching has shown me.TNLNSL TFTC Cheers Fairly Magic.

15-Oct-06
Looks like everyone found this one but us. We found a number of good hiding spots and one perfect spot for a cache, but no joy. Water level seemed down a bit, lots of fishermuggles about, but we enjoyed ourselves all the same. We'll keep an eye on these logs to see if the next cacher has more luck. Thanks Fairly Magic.

24-Jul-06
Found with Caxixi on a beautiful day. Thanks Fairly Magic for bringing us here for our first visit. Co-ords spot on once I used the correct numbers.
Took Craigrat mini CD, left mini padlock.

23-Jul-06
Found this with el golco on a beautiful sunny day. Lots of fishermuggles about - although some tried to pretend they weren't when the fishing licence man appeared! Took nothing and left one of the many mid winter event magnets that I forgot to give away at the mid winter event! SL

12-Jun-06
This is the first cache found by Aquaphil. We thought that we know this place well enough because it is one of our favorite fishing spots, but the view of the dam, is impressive, from the point where the cache is. Took Party glow, left jewelry box. Thanks.

Nice first cache FM.

Loved the short walk, punctuated by commentary by CraigRat as to the history of this place - he really is a hive of usefull information!

Cache was found quite easily. I think I took nothing and placed a Mondo in this cache.

16-Feb-06
Well, the weather was statring to get hot, but that was no deterrent for us today!!

A nice walk to the feature (it's a lot bigger than I thought).

Cache was found easily and we did the deed.

Took Frog left Team CraigRat useless Mini CD

Thanks!!

Fantastic cache! After the drive, and not having had much of a walk since Bridge of Hope, Snuva was certainly ready to get out and stretch her legs to get to this cache. And what a great setting to do it in! At first Snuva set off to take the wetter approach to this one, but the female slave of course was pathetic and necessitated a change in tack. But it was a great walk - and I chased millions and millions of grasshoppers. And occasionally flopped into the water to cool off.

GZ was a surprising oasis - and kept us out of view of muggles perfectly! I approached following the arrow with GPSr in paw, got to GZ, and found cache immediately. TNLNSL Thanks you Fairly Magic!!

Almost makes you not pity fisher-muggles. . .

A wet Snuva is a happy Snuva

Snuva takles the stile Snuva-style!

Great first cache thank you Fairly Magic! Big Grin Nice walk in, combined with a very tricky hide ensured that Mr CP and Piglet enjoyed this one. Mrs CP had to stay back at the car due to being badly sunburnt Sad. The water looked like it needed to be swam in, but I dont think the fishermen would have been impressed!

Left glo in the dark necklace, took dog chew toy.
Looking forward to your next one!!

Met a local who is part of the Tassie Contingent and son, and headed off to GZ. Along the way, explained how the GPS system works, what we could expect to be looking for, and answers to a myriad of other questions a young boy would ask.

Found the cache after a short hunt with us all looking in the wrong place.

Will(iam) took bubble bottle, I was going to leave 2 bounce balls. Next time I'm going through this area, I'll drop them off.

Thanks Fairly Magic.

More education on the way out - what are those things behind the little building? Rain Gauges (the long one is old and full of water and the other is a tipping bucket gauge).

I learnt that the swimming holes here are good and that you can sit under the spray from the dam, if you dont slip away.

Beaten to the punch by about 20 minutes!!

On the way out I'm torn between thinking I it wouldn't have been beyond reason for a Hobart cacher to be here already" and "They wouldn't drive THIS far!".

Pick the latter. Walking up the path to the cache, there is a couple of peopel walking out. No fishing poles. Bugger!! Cachers!! It was DDTs who we had met the day before.

This was a marvellous cache. The parking spot gives no indication to the caches quality location. Just incredible - this is going on my recommended list.

Think it could have been better named Wink - this is far more than a park cache. Maybe "Cut & Paste" or "Photoshopped"? Or "Hidden Wonders"? Colebrook Park will do though... How on earth did you know this was here?

Swapped a hands free kit for a bubble bath.

Thanks guys!

Well, despite all our procrastinating, we managed to get FTF on this cache - only just though, as who should we meet on the way out, but . . . (you'll just have to wait for their log!!!) Muggle fishermen (or is that fisherpeople??) everywhere, but they caused us no problems. Great area near gz - we didn't realise that all this infrastructure was here, so thanks for making us visit Fairly Magic. Took blue sparkly stars, left floating frog.
