Description

Belly up is how you would be if you were residing here.....

This place is amazing, I have always wanted to visit it. The history alone makes it worth the effort.

Watercraft required.

You are looking for a yellow tin.

Haha, seeked out to hide a cache today, one where you need a boat; we watered at Apple Tree Bay boat ramp in Kurin-gai Chase NP. Beautiful day to come here. Oh, I was not aware of the great history of Bar Island. Good landing jetty; Maritime was there, and then us! Alex and me, The Arkaroo. Vistited the ruines, the cimetery - few photos, few repectful thoughts of those people lying there. Then further up the way! Hmm bush - the other not good - not a log, should be rock! The Arkaroo likes water and rocks! Oh, maybe there - underneath - but what's that? saying 'Geocahche'! A good one, a solid one, yellow box, well placed, well done! But not in my groundspeak pocket guide - what's that? Damned, can't put mine here - must be further away. OK, back to the boat, half 'round the island, we landed, climbed up nice rock and found a good spot. We'll call it 'Bar Island'.

By the Way: Why was it archived? Should be published again!!!

PS: we spotted Belly up at The Bar 10.5 m NW of GZ:

Top spot. Had a great smooth ride on the way out to Bar Island, found the cache quickly and went back to the boat to find the wind had picked up and got thoroughly drowned in the waves on the way back.

Great day for the boat ride there and a great place for a cache. Too bad the weather changed while there. had to battle the waves all the way back to Berowra.

Bleary-eyed and Bushy tailed, KitPie and I dived out of the car dead on 7am and climbed aboard Swampy's marine vessel to have a peek at Bar Island with 2nd mate, The Ginger Loon. We logged "Wet Gecko" en-route, and then verified the accuracy of Swampy's fish-finder in the shallows (using the outboard as a depth gauge).

Loon and I got our feet wet going ashore, and Swampy abducted KitPie for company while we pressed on to have a looksee at what the island had to offer. A very interesting place, and now it has a cache to boot, thanks to the reptilian!

We met smerrall back at the carpark, had a bit of a yarn, and then continued on our way, via a hot coffee at Pie in the Sky.

On a caching trip with Roger the Cabin Boy to Bar Island for a brief history lesson, oh and the cache of course. The ruins of the old church and the cemetery were a solemn reminder of the harshness and difficulties of early life on the river. It was very sobering to see so many very young lives lost. The cold and bleak weather certainly helped put things in perspective

The cache was found easily enough and was in good condition.

Thanks to Swampgecko and MV Wet Gecko for making this visit possible.

Swampgecko was good enough to ferry the Loon, Mind Socket and myself across to the island. It was great being able to meet some other cachers. The island irself had some interesting history - I thought the mainland would have been settled first, but it seems the islands were very attractive to early settlers too.

Ok Thrillseekers, I am about to offer a one time limited chance to go after this cache.

I am taking The Ginger Loon to this cache on Saturday 15Jul06, at a time yet to be announced.

I have room for two more bodies, anybody up for it? This will be going ahead rain, hail or shine, from the boat ramp at the Road Bridges on the Hawkesbury River, Peat's Island.

A river survey is always good. Being able to get a cache is even better. My co-ords differed a bit but were within my EPE (11m) so I'm not arguing.

This is the 5th time I've been to the Island. I always seem to find something different on each visit so I enjoy coming here. BTW Thanks to BigMickB for the co-ords.

I always wanted to come here and check this place out and see if it was the Resting place of George Peat, the bonus is there's also a Virgin cache here waiting for me,

Nice short walk up the hill, did a little bit of circle work following the compass to GZ but ended up finding myself coming back to where i went off the the track to begin with!

sadly though i did not locate the resting place of George Peat but had a great time finding the cache. placed logbook and cache note in a glad bag

Thanks Swampgecko
