Description
A self guided tour
This cache is a self guided tour of remnants of early industry in the area.
This area produced much of the sandstone used in monuments and buildings in
early Sydney. The quarries are still here, as are remnants of the old roads, the
remains of a bridge and some sandstone walls. This land was once home to the Toonagal (or Tugagal) people and the area has evidence of their occupation in the form of rock shelters with artefacts. One local shelter has produced charcoal in basil deposits with radiocarbon dates of 5,640 BP (BP is 'before present' where 'present' is defined as the year 1950). The tour starts near an area with ample car parking. There are BBQ facilities and toilets nearby. Tour notes will be found at some of the waypoints. |
The tour notes mention that you will have stones underfoot at one point on this tour. There is a washaway to your left in this section. Its worthwhile proceeding down this washaway a few metres and then looking back at the edge along the way you came. |

It looks like WP2 is MIA. A string of DNF's by a couple of cachers armed with knowledge and hints and still nothing they could find.
We'll disble this listing for now. If the cache owner can confirm that WP2 is in place or decides to replace WP2, they can reactivate this listing by placing an "Enabled" log against it.

Any chance this could be checked or archived? Many DNF's in the last many months. Thanx.
Would like to revisit HH11, but needs a CO check to see if all WP's are still in place. Thanx.
Went back for another attempt at WP2. Searched for another 30min, but nothing found. Yeah pjmpjm, happy for more eyes.

After doing a close cache, Team Canary told me of this 77 wk unfound cache. After attempting a meetup, I ending up going there on my own for a squiz. A call to TC for assistance on WP1, which then exposed itself to me in the end. I then headed off for WP2. After 20min and knowing what I was looking for, I could not find it. Will be back. Time to gather up a posse!

Today I spent another hour looking for WP2! No luck, despite the clued from the owner and the last finder.
Thought I would give this one a go this afternoon to use up a couple of hours or however long it took. Found WP1 after a short search, but as I started heading the direction of WP2 it became obvious the rain was just going to get more persistent so decided to leave it for another day.
The two missing waypoints have been replaced and the cache checked. The recent rains have caused a bit of growth over a couple of tracks, but nothing a geocacher can't handle.
Well it's been a long time between drinks for this cache, but it's still there and in pretty good condition.
I did begin this soon afger finding El Guardia a few eyars ago. I didn't find WP1 back then and attempted the 'brute force' method, which failed. Another simialr attempt about 12 months ago met a simialr fate.
This time around I decided to take a decent crack at it. Two months ago I found WP1 and WP2 without too much difficulty. WP3 was a little more elusive and required some help. That help was further needed as WP4 and WP5 were missing.
Armed with the final location I eventually found the cache in perfect condition. Signed the log and replaced the cache, then ventured down to the old bridge.
Overall this is a very interesting history lesson in a very interesting piece of bush (so many trails).
Hopefully the missing WPs will be replaced soon and many other geocachers will find it. Cheers Riblit

I managed to find WP1 with a bit of searching and headed off to the next location. Given the location at WP2 I thought I knew where it would be - after all I have done Pollie's Perks. But this one stumped me. After 20 minutes I decided to head off and see if I could find it without the waypoints, which I admit to having attempted on two previous occasions. No luck again.
On the way back to the car I decided one more look at WP2 and BINGO! It had been there all along, just two years of weather made it very hard to find. The co-ordinates were difficult to read and after reaching WP3 I thought 'Ugh?'. Then it clicked, so out with the torch. But after four runs in and out I started to wonder if they were wrong. Will need to confirm with the frog whether I have them.

Well after a lot of time spent in the area still no luck! It is possible to do a check if all is in order as it hasnt been found for over 18months. Thanks, can't wait to knock this one on the head!
Wow!!! What an amazing bit of history. I saw many relics dating back to the convicts that I never knew where here. I grew up in this area and had not seen any of this before and it made me happy to know that it still exists in this pocket of bushland. I hope the council protects this place. Thanks riblit for this cache I really enjoyed it!
Interesting bits of history and a lovely walk through urban bushland. The quarries are largely overgrown but still obvious when you take a good look. Enjoyed the old remnants of a long ago bridge. The creek is very beautiful too.
Found the cache without any problems. This is my 3rd Hidden History cache. Thanks riblit.

What a great caching experience!
I have done a few caches in this area and have mentioned before how envious I am of these great reserves in such an urban environment.
Well the tour took me on patths less travelled and after the recent rain the green bits around here have gone, BOOOOM! There's plenty of different bits and pieces to look at and sometimes wandering a bit further off the track reveals evn more great hidden secrets.
Thanks for showing me all this Riblit.

Yes well - blundered onto this one whilst searching (& eventually finding) another cache listed on another well known site. Were at the absolute outer limit of a search pattern. Preferred this hide to the "other" hide. Sounds like an interesting multi to do - perhaps one day.....
This my first try! Found the rusty old car but half an hour later I was still looking!
Can you give this old bugger a further clue?
Hope to get to the BBQ at Lake Parramatta

Phew!! I make it hooray... I am so enjoyed myself walk around the bushland. Take me 3 hours to complete. No swap except calling card. Thank you for organise the cache and hunt. I probably never would have visited without geocaching. I will never forget it. Thank you again.
It is very rare for myself to set off for a Multi but being a hidden history cache by Riblit i thought it would be worth it, but sadly i just don't have the mind for it, couldn't work out anything walked from one end 'following the arrows' to the other. Passed one thing that was close i think but the location just didn't fit the description, But in a nut shell i couldn't make sense of it all will have to come back one day with a more switched on cacher.
I guess this would be a WIP, BigMickB and i set out to do this one today, knocked over a few WPs but got stumped on one and the need for lunch ended our searching. Will be back to finish this one. An enjoyable journey so far though. ta
I had some time to spare this afternoon so I decided to finish this one off. It's probably just as well that the co-ords were misprinted at WP2 on my last visit as I would not have been able to finish it off then. With new co-ords in the GuPpuS today I set out to finish this off.
The remaining waypoints fell reasonably quickly, or should I say easily as I decided to wander along and take in the sights. I'm now begining to recognise an overgrown and abandoned quarry when I see one. Eventually I reached GZ and with a sense of satisfaction at my achievement I signed the log book and rehid the cache. With a little bit more daylight remaining I set out to map a few more of the tracks in the reserve and see some more of the sights.
Thanks Riblit for the excellent hunt. Everyone should do this cache.

Thanks Riblit for the suburban bushland tour, I didn’t know you had so much bushland steeped in history. It was a great hunt, I enjoyed it immensely.

Now that was a fantastic cache and a great history lesson that took us to some awesome sites/sights.
Thanks Riblit for the effort you put into your caches.

Angel Dust and I found wp1 and 2 easily enough, but as for wp3 that’s a different story.
A fantastic spot of bushland, we will be back, hopefully with a clue.

WIP - Came home after a day out with the family to see the Pants Wearing Frog's been busy again in my area - this is getting to be a habit. With an hours' daylight to spare I grabbed the GuPuS and headed off. WPs 1 & 2 fell fairly easily but bad light caused play to be abandoned at WP3. Oh well. Hopefully this will last to next weekend so I can get the FTF. If not then no probs, it's a great walk.
