Description

Travel Bug EXCHANGE Centre.

Something a bit different even for me. This cache at inception contains five travel bugs which are meant to be an EXCHANGE CACHE. The idea is that you put a bug in and take one out so there is always five bugs in the cache.

But wait.......there is more. The cache also contains a regular bag of swaps for those who dont have a travel bug to swap. So its a cache for all cachers, and its wheelchair friendly, not many of them about.

To find the cache you need to go inside and find the flyers that list some of the local caches, not hard to do. The brochures tell you where the cache is.

Must be between 9am and 5pm seven days a week.

Cachers will be enthusiastically received and the experience will be good for you and the people you may come in contact with.

When you pick up the original TBs you will need to "grab" from Robtas as GCA has a problem with TB's.

------ Thanks to "cached": Anybody logging TBs into this cache is welcome to use "Return of the UFO" Cache Listing to check bugs in and out of, as it is too small to hold bugs itself and should not be too confusing.----------- "Return of the UFO" IS VERY CLOSE AND WILL MAKE A GOOD DOUBLE FIND.

Out and about caching in Ulverstone and finally stopped to ask for this cache. What a lovely information centre and the volunteer knew what we wanted. Nice to find this very old cache. Vale robtas. TFTC

12-Jan-19
Thanks heaps for this cache which was eventually located, luckily it was found by the volunteer’s husband when he heard us requesting it. This hasn’t been logged since 22/11/16 so I’m happy to claim to years unloved on it.
Thanks Robtas for this one, needed for a regular today.

22-Nov-16
Fun to visit and chat to the lady. TFTC robtas.

30-Jul-16
great experience - sadly no bugs. Thanks Robtas

31-Mar-16
As we'd done something of a similar nature in Devonport a while ago, we had no qualms in asking for this one. The first volunteer we asked had no idea but brought along her boss who knew all about it. Out from behind the counter came the magic box for signing. A few more explanations were made. Great idea robtas, though of course GCA TB's are as scarce as hen's teeth these days.

20-Jan-16
That was fun....

With the fires that are currently burning around your great state, it was good to go inside and get up to date info. The 2 ladies were very helpful in that regard. Then when I asked about the cache, they dove behind the counter and the container was soon sitting on the container. After a bit more of a chat about caching, which included checking the website, I signed the log and was soon on my way.

Thanks to the 2 ladies concerned...and Robtas for the cache. Very enjoyable...and certainly a GCA incarnation...

A very lovely and at first confused lady helped us out today. Once we explained what we were looking for she was very intrigued by the whole idea, we may just have another convert.
So much fun to do something a bit different, left behind a scout. TFTC

11-May-14
Visited the information centre today and a lovely lady named Anne was very helpful. Logbook signed and cache container returned for safe keeping until the next team asks for it. Thanks for a different type of hunt.

16-Jan-14
A lovely lady actually seemed quite excited that we came asking about the cache. It had been so long she wasn't sure where it was. After finding it behind a counter we continued to chat about the travel and tourism industry while the kids made a swap each. Nearly forgot to sign the log! TFTC

15-Dec-12
Wow! What an original and enjoyable experience. The information volunteer was such a lovely lady and helped us out no end. Thankyou for organising such a clever cache. TNLNSL. TFTC.

29-Jul-12
Loved this different type of cache, I did hear GU groan after I said we were Geocahing and the lovely lady said 'oh whats that'! all good, we must have said the right thing after that as cache was soon in hand!

10-Sep-11
Robtas this was a pleasant experience. I didn't have a travel bug to place in the cache, but I wanted the find.
Entered the building and was greeted by Norma, a volunteer, who does this work every weekend. Very pleasant in her manner and most obliging; she readily gave me the cache for me to sign the log, which I did at 1120hrs.
Don College currently have their Art Display on show and some of their work is impressive.
Great cache in a place worthy of a visit. Thank You.
Cheers OldSaint.

After a blank look from friendly lady behind the desk I thought this was going to be harder than I first thought. But after a explanation about geocaching cache was soon in hand. TFTC

Having many times passed this location, and every time it has been closed or I have been in a hurry to get somewhere else and have not been able to go in, but today was an exception. Found the staff very helpful. Took nothing, left a pair of thongs (but they are a bit small for most!!) and signed log. Thanks Robtas for the cache.

09-Apr-11
How easy was that! Nice lady knew what we wanted and we soon had cache in hand. No TB's in cache so left Brewsky TB to move on TFTC
next finder will need to grab it from us

09-Jan-11
Quick find once we explained to the attendant what we were looking for. They are out of flyers

22-Nov-10
The lady had a little bit of trouble reaching the cache because it had been placed in a slightly different spot by someone else. She was pleased to assist me.

08-Oct-10
The very friendly ladies were pleased to see me. They said no one has been here for ages and wondered if it was still in use. I assured them it was. I have never had the experience at gz having someone so helpful with the find. Enjoyed the experience as there was no rubbish, blackberries, rocks and the log book was dry. TNLN Thanks

18-May-10
I must admit, I probably wouldn't have done this if another cacher hadn't, um, made me. Lol. Not that it was hard, just weird talking to muggles about geocaching...

Anyway, it's a nice information centre, with comfy couch and cushions to relax on while logging the cache. Took a Canadian geocoin, but didn't have anything to replace it with, sorry. Sad

18-Feb-10
Very friendly staff full of information and great spots to visit

23-Jan-10
As predicted, staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place to get information on the local area.

21-Jan-10
geo teen was impressed with this one and a little bit nervous left blushing beetle took obi wan tb

10-Jan-10
Hooray for air con!!! Asked the lady at the desk if she knew anything about caching and if there was one here, she seemed a little perplexed to start with, I then said it was a treasure hunt game using a gps and it was called geocaching. That semmed to ring a bell(of sorts). She said I don't know much about it and don't know if they do it anymore, she then went to another desk to have a look, I said it would be in a container possibly with a sticker on it stating that it was a geocache, and it would contain a log book and swaps.
She came back soon after saying "is this what you are looking for?", bingo, she had found it.
She asked us what geocaching was all about, and after a simple explanation and a little chat we sat down in comfort to sign the log.
Not many TBs in here now, we took stick it note pad and left hand sanitizer. We returned the cache to the very friendly lady at the desk and then had a look around, there are some spectacular photographs on the wall.

Thanks this cache was an absolute pleasure

11-Dec-09
A great idea, The first guy I asked looked very confused... I think he may have just been a volunteer, but then we sorted it all out. Sat on the comfy couch and signed the log TFTC

02-Nov-09
Found this one with the contents nice and dry and clean too. haha
Took a TB and left Wright Bros. geo coin, now have to find out how to log it

15-Sep-09
After wandering around inside for a while the second-miniest helper plucked up the courage to ask the nice lady if she knew anything about caching whilst I took the mini helper to use the facilities. What a nice change to have a comfy couch tp sit on whilst we went though the contents of the cache in air-conditioned comfort!
Dropped off "Obi-Wan" travel bug to check out the travel info, and picked up "Wutt" travel bug to help on it's way.

15-Sep-09
This cache was easier than I thought it would be and I like the twist. D had a travel bug to swap but T n I just went along for a look. This is a really nice information centre and the design is unusual which adds to it's appeal.

21-Jun-09
Nice cache...lol...Well that was easy

Grab this one dead on 10am as the opening times have changed from 9am to 10am over winter

Thnx for this one

26-Apr-09
sure felt strange having a muggle hand you the prize, but we had a nice little chat, filled out log book and on our merry way TNLN

18-Apr-09
We had no information on this one, just happened to be in the area and it was on the GPS as a traditional. Did not take any travel bugs. Will exchange a travel bug next time we are in town.

05-Feb-09
Have been meaning to pop in here for a while. But today i had an excuse (was looking for a map of the dial ranges). Very easy to obtain. Very Happy This is my first GCA cache.

checked on this today as I was told some of the tb's were gone. In fact there was only one left. the idea was to "EXCHANGE" not take them.
So I added a tb from Canada.

03-Dec-08
Found nice and easily whilst out and about with Cached on one of our first days in Tassie - cheers

06-Jul-08
A very easy find when a muggle generously passes the cache to you and smiles politely.
Thanks robtas

06-Jul-08
Went into the travel centre and the lady (Norma) immediately asked if she could help us.
When we inquired about a 'flyer' she seemed uncertain but then proceeded to get a container behind the counter that might be what we were looking for.
Wow, now thats service and Yes thats exactly what we wanted.
Had a lovely chat with Norma about geocaching then signed the log book, 'Discovered' a coin and went on our way.
Thanks robtas for the different style of cache, very enjoyable

27-Mar-08
Hooray - we found a cache!!!! A very nice one too. We left a TB - Will log it into Return of the UFO cache. Thought I'd help to get the TB's back up to 5. Took donkey, left notepad. Thanks robtas.

19-Mar-08
After a couple of muggle-comprised attempts to find other caches, it was very pleasing to have a cache where the muggles help with the find.

I was keen to find the information for myself, but was approached almost immediately by one of the friendly staff who asked what I was looking for. She had no idea what I was talking about, but her colleague overheard, and the cache was promptly retrieved. We had a brief chat about geocaching, and I was on my way.

Thanks for the great idea for a cache!

06-Feb-08
Found this cache previously as the other half of Boagsratz but now cache as a lone ranger. TFTC! Blind Betty.

06-Jan-08
Was nice to sit in the airconditioning, on a nice comfy couch while signing the log. Lovely!
Took nothing
Left: Donkey Shrek
WSGA Cache-Cadian geo-coin

Thanks!

13-Oct-07
Lady at the desk had to phone a friend to locate the cache.
First dry one we'd found all day.
Made the same mistake as tealby and took a TB without replacement ooops - sorry.
Did leave a Carlton lanyard though.

24-Sep-07
Finally summoned up enough courage to nab this one on a little lunchtime jaunt - haven't been a-cachin for aaaaages ! Had a nice chat to the cache-keeper . . . TNLNSL thanks Rob

I am now sitting in a hotel in Launceston & am finally in a position where I can log all of my cache finds so far. I am feeling quite embarrassed as this is the first time I have read this cache description - I didn't realise that this was an exchange only cache & I took THREE TBs without replacement!! OOPS! I thought they looked like they had been languishing for some time without recent visitors & I didn't see any note in the logbook - although I may have missed it as the lady in the info centre was really nice & we had a long chat about geocaching (she has only previously had one cacher visit while she has been on duty). I had already placed many of my TBs that I had brought with me in the caches I had visited earlier in the day. She also told me we were only about 20-30 mins out of Devonport, yet we had taken 9 hours to get there, caching all the way! Anyway, I hope you will excuse my gaff - it was completely unintentional & I won't have an opportunity to get back before we return to the mainland.

28-Dec-06
Nice easy find when the Centre's open, isn't it! The gent in charge when I arrived was a bit baffled by my quest but took it all in stride. I found the cache, showed him what it was all about by signing the log and making a swap. Thank you, robtas!

19-Dec-06
Certainly is a different kind of cache, having a nice comfortable lounge to sit on whilst logging in. The staff were very friendly. TNLNSL. Thanks Robtas for something different.

14-Dec-06
retrieved Hissy Tb - left snake in Pfoul cache burnie and dropped Dragon's geoswag.

07-Dec-06

05-Dec-06
A forgot-to-log.

Moved some travel bugs around on my last trip home where I finally got to do this cache.

The info centre is quite impressive!

22-Oct-06
Find #2 on the return from the NWCW trip.

It was way after closing time when we visited yesterday, so got it on the way home.

Thanks robtas

Find no. 2 on the return journey. Well definitely an interesting concept. The information bureau lady had plenty of information that she was happy to share...and share...and share...etc. She was also very interested in the idea of geocaching. Put in Police Remembrance Day TB logged at return of ufo. Thanks Robtas.

19-Sep-06
Dropped in here with Caxixi, met Bruce, left Tassie Mushroom TB and picked up Wolli the sheep TB.

17-Sep-06
Had no trouble "finding" this one as Bruce was very helpful once he remembered what a "geocache"was! Left Jumbo TB and took Bad Andy geocoin.

17-Sep-06
Found by Sirius and Quilter. Pleasant chat with the two guys inside, talking about visiting places you normally just drive by, such as Braddon lookout. Dropped in Love Bugs travel bug and grabbed a geocoin. Cheers Quilter.

03-Sep-06
Arrived at 9:35, just as the attendant was opening up for the day, glad we didn't get there 10 minutes earlier.

Chap behind the counter was a friendly enough old boy, but I got the distinct impression he found the cache to be an imposition to his working day. He didn't seem to know what it was, insisted on ID before I could get access, and then looked like he was going to muggle the contents after we left Smile

Cached - No Cringe factor hey? You should have seen CraigRat cowering behind a bookcase while I tried to explain; in a tone that expressed my embarrassment, all about geocaching and how it took grown men to isolated parts of the countryside looking for plastic boxes with toys in it. He seemed to struggle with the "countryside/waterfalls/caves/mountains" statement as he stood there in his air conditioned capsule Smile

A local school/collage had an art display on in the centre when we visited and that made for a much more enjoyable time - it gave CraigRat more places to hide Razz

03-Sep-06
This was interesting.....

The old chappie at the center only kind of knew about the cache and even asked Horus for ID at one point!!

22-Aug-06
My first cache, nice and easy thanks

A couple of days down the Coast netted us a dozen or so caches……. SO this is my “Quick†way to log them all…….
They were all “Great Fun†to hunt down as they always are (some better than others of course) but all fun none the less.
Had to log about two dozen at once one other time and I must admit that that took the fun out of Caching a bit especially when you type one finger at a time!!!!!!!
I’m cheating I know BUT this will get the job done a lot quicker……………..LOL

T(lots)L(heaps)SL’s

Thanks to all……….. Surprised)

12-Jun-06
This cache is certainly different to the usual. As Hingrock has already said, this would be a good one to find on a wet day. We had an enjoyable chat with the volunteer who was manning the centre today.

Thanks robtas.

09-Jun-06
Managed to be going past today at the recommended times. Had a little look around the place and then gave the ladies another rundown on geocaching. This would be a very good one to find on a wet day.

Dropped off Hissy TB, logged into Return of the UFO and picked up Aussie Thong 2.

Thanks Robtas.

02-Jun-06
Cache in the same theme as nearby Burnt Out Forrest in a way. I enjoyed a good chat to the cache custodian and found and read the pamphlets...not my cup of tea this one...but Kudos for pushing the envelope that little bit further and also getting word out about geocaching. TNLN as i had no TB's on me...tis a shame such a well cammoed sistema is in a place that doesn't require it Wink

28-May-06
Found by ThatGuy,

The assistant was very interested in hearing all about this geocaching thing, she was telling me how she was just looking it up and had heaps of questions. Smile

She also said that she didn't think that she'd get many people asking about it, and was suprised that 3 people had already. Let's keep it up people, it must be fairly boring/lonely working in an information centre sometimes.

TNLNSL

Cheers,

ThatGuy

27-May-06
Nice easy find with the help of a friendly assistant. Spent some time explaining what GeoCaching is all about to a very interested assistant. No Travel bug to swap just a normal item, can't remeber what it was

22-May-06
Wow we finally found a Robtas cache first go! Lovely warm and comfortable place to log a find. Your travel bugs are ultra safe in luxurious surrounds - we had to talk to one of the very nice little old "brochures" to retrieve it. Littlest feral enjoyed playing with all the bugs. Left a giraffe who wants to see some real giraffes and took cool geocoin
