Description

Welcome to northern most point of the Australian mainland

After taking on the best four wheel driving in Australia I thought it was about time there was a cache at the end to look forward to as well. The cache is placed not far from the tip but far enough away that other tourists should not bother you. To drive there yourself you will need a capable 4X4 with corugation proof suspension and a good fording depth, and or snorkel as we had water wash up the bonnet on a couple of the many crossings on the main road.(be sure to drive the old telegraph track as it was an experience of a lifetime) The other alternative is to book one of the many tour groups that travel to the cape in these massive 4X4 buses, which look like alot of fun. When you do log this cache please include a photo of yourself at the tip and any other spectacular shots you have managed to take along the way. Hope you loved the trip as much as we did and have fun! Last but not least be careful of the local wildlife that include snakes crocs, spiders etc (we saw all of the above)

After three and a half thousand kilometres it all ended with us waiting in a queue behind some tour groups for our obligatory pic at the sign.

There was some amazing scenery on the way and some great camp-sites. The tip is spectacular and the rock cairns are pretty impressive. We walked to the tip along the beach and returned by the path heading over the mountain.

We approached GZ from two different angles, but eventually made the find.
Great to mark this one of our list!

Thanks for the cache!

We are lucky enough to have very special geofriends who very kindly offered to look after our furbaby while we headed to the tip of Cape York and detoured to some lovely National Parks along the way. We attempted any geocaches which we passed along the way and this was one of themSmile

Very many thanks to all those who have placed and maintain their caches in this very remote part of the country.

Access to this cache is getting a little overgrown but Geohubby was quick to make the find. Many thanks for the hide at this auspicious place YoungGregB ClappingDancing

The final leg of the trip to the Tip was planned to coincide with Mrs Shifter's birthday. The Tip is a great iconic Australian place to celebrate a birthday. Thanks for the cache.

What can I say, "Fantastic".
The views, just awesome.
The adventure we had along the way to get here was unforgetable and we will be doing it again in the future without a doubt.

What an adventure, With the blow up doll in tow, and one blown radiator, we finally made it to the top! Well, as they say, sometimes it is the journey more than the destination, but in this case it was both. TFTC!

We came all the way from the south coast of WA to reach this point. Travelled the entire Telegraph Line, did Cockatoo, Gunshot and Nolans without a problem. Lots of dust, corrugations and mud - good fun.
All this did not prepare us for the gruelling 7 hour trip from Jawalbinna to Maytown along the Old Coach Road. This was a real 4X4 adventure - how long was this road you ask - only 59 klms!! But is was rock the entire 59 klms and at times we had to get out and rebuilt the road as we went. Hard to imagine the old Cobb & Co clattering over this track 130 years ago.
By the way it looks like a couple of muggles have found this cache - they wrote their discovering in the log and replaced cache.

Found by half the Posspet Boys on a winter holiday. There were quite a few people up here.

Our first cache find. We had a great trip to the Cape, and a shaking good time on the developmental road!
The cache is exactly on the coordinates and easy enough to find. Muggles aplenty, had to wait for some time for a break in the traffic TNLNSH

Where are all the Crocs??
