Description
"Wild Goose Cache" is a movable cache with a twist, you are NOT allowed to post the new location or co-ordinates. It aims to promote thorough reading of cache notebooks and giving you a reason to revisit some of those caches that you loved (or loathed) as you work your way to this exciting new cache.
At this point I must say that some preparation is required before pursuing this cache. You should have a good idea of the caches in the wider region with some idea of a few caches that you may rehide the cache in (ones that you have already visited are preferred to help avoid broken links in the chain, but not required). A GPS, laptop, PDA or a combination, loaded with maps and most of the caches in the wider region, may be helpful, but not required.
How it works:
WGC must be hidden inside other caches.
The co-ords listed for the WGC are for the first link in the chain.
A cacher should go to the listed cache, search the notebook for the WGC entry (See FigA), go to the cache mentioned in the "Moved to" section and find either WGC or another notebook entry pointing to another cache, so on and so forth.
Once WGC is located the cacher must find and finish the log in the notebook (Fig1) with the name of the cache they are moving WGC too, their name and the date (FigA).
They must then take WGC to the nominated cache and start a new log entry (Fig1).
When logging the WGC's own logbook please include Caching name, date and "cache found in -> cache left in" (See Fig2)
All participants should use the mini-logbooks list of the caches WGC has visited to find a cache it can be moved to that it has not previously visited.
When cachers log their find online for "Wild Goose Cache" do NOT let on where it was placed OR where it was found OR any of the links in the chain. Keep the log simple. However you are required to PM me (thatguy007) to tell me where you found and placed WGC, so I can keep a record of the chain, perform maintenance on the cache or remove links in the chain that are muggled or disabled.
Special cases:
If a cacher stumbles onto a "Wild Goose Cache" log entry in a cache half way along the chain, please feel free to follow the chain from that point. Likewise if a cacher finds the "Wild Goose Cache" itself by accident feel free to move it and claim a find.
Additional cache rules:
1. "Wild Goose Cache" must be moved to log a find.
2. Try to think of "safe" caches to put "Wild Goose Cache" into, we have to try to preserve the chain.
3. Make sure that you only move "Wild Goose Cache", at most, a few km's. Eg, Devonport to Ulverstone is way too far and NOT allowed. To get from Devonport to Ulverstone WGC would have to make several stops. Eg, Devonport to Forth to Turners Beach to East Ulverstone. There will have to be exceptions I realise, but please ask permission first.
4. You can log "Wild Goose Cache" as many times as you like but wait until at least 3 others have found it in between finds.
5. Try your very best to place "Wild Goose Cache" into a cache that it has not yet already visited.
6. Do NOT put "Wild Goose Cache" in caches that are too hard (Terrain 2.5 maximum, drive-by caches are ideal, but not required)
7. The object is NOT to make this too tricky or more frustrating than necessary, but to make a nice easy chain for fellow cachers to follow.
8. Don't put it into Multi-caches.
9. Rehide "Wild Goose Cache" the same day, but I will accept next day if further planning becomes necessary.
Logs
"It seems that this was last moved to GCRK2W "Burnt Out Forest" in early 2007. As this cache has since disappeared and been archived then I think that "Wild Goose Cache" has now truly lived up to it's name!"
If the cache owner can confirm that the cache is in fact in place, they can unarachive this cache listing by logging an Unarchived log against the cache.
Thanks - a novel idea I might attempt to replicate "over seas".
Moved it on to another nearby cache having carefully read the rule 3.
Thanks for an interesting cache.
I must ask people to carefully read ALL rules before moving this cache (there is a copy enclused with the cache).
I feel that I should highlight the below rule here:
"3. There will have to be exceptions I realise, but please ask permission first."
We actually found it somewhere else but I'm logging it as #33 because I don't want to let on where it was. It was found at about 2130 and rehidden the next day.
I was thinking about putting it in Ben's Fern Gully but that would be just nasty and thatguy would send out a knobbling party to break our knees if we did.
So.... We put it somewhere where we think it will be a surprise to the next finder!
Sorry to thatguy but it is really difficult trying to think straight when you have been thinking "cache, cache, cache, cache, cache" all day and night.
Thanks. Swampy
I know I'm being anally-retentive but, please take careful notice of this paragraph (below) in the "How it works" section.
"Once WGC is located the cacher must find and finish the log in the notebook (Fig1) with the name of the cache they are moving WGC too, their name and the date (FigA).
They must then take WGC to the nominated cache and start a new log entry (Fig1)."
