Description

Cache sited on western end of Gog Range.

Track starts at S41 29.571  E146 21.185 which is the junction of Gog & Union Bridge Road. Any type of 4wd will get up with ease...otherwise you will have an approx. 0.5h walk on a steepish track. The track initially goes through a recently logged area(Feb 2021) before entering the native forest.

To the north panoramic views extend out to the coast and south to the Western Tiers.

Cache is a small black screw top with bison tube inside.

Enjoy!

Today Trimbletas and I had a action packed day of caching planned. We started by doing some caches around Ulverstone then we moved onto Sheffield then it was off to climb the gog range to get the cache at the top and attempt to drive to granta pools which we did successfully. The two walkers that were at the pools were rather surprised when the bullbar of the ute came round the corner. After having a chinwag with them and grabbing photos, We then headed for lake McKenzie road so trimbletas could find the sail boat series. Did a maintenance check of all caches as he found them. Once completed we climbed up to lake McKenzie where we stopped to hide some moveables and locate the trig just off the road. Searched for a couple of other caches one the way back home. Overall a great day out was had. TFTC

Cache has been replaced. Sorry re delay.
Track up is all clear and in good condition for 4wd.

This cache has been sitting in the review queue for quite a long time. We understand Covid-19 may have caused some travel restrictions.
We would like to see this cache back in play but until then we're archiving it to stop it appearing in searches.
If the cache owner would like to check then re-enable this cache it can be done so by posting an "unarchived" log.

Hi Sirius,
Sorry but unfortunately I had the same result as the previous cachers.
I searched everything within a 15m radius of GZ but still couldn’t come up with the cache.
This one needs checking on.

A nice drive up here and good views but we couldn't find the cache

02-Sep-19
We went for a stroll along the Gog range this sunny Monday with the three caches at top of Gog hill being the entree. Well two out of three ain't bad as the song goes. Couldn't find this one despite thinking we had the likely hide sussed with the help of the clever clue. No joy though.

Our time visiting Tasmania is nearly at an end.

Overnighting in Chudleigh we headed out to find a cache to continue our geostreak.

Beautiful day out around the Mersey Forest.

Great 4x4 drive but no challenge for the geocruiser. Found the GC cache, Found the trig point then were heading back down when realised the nearest cache was 55mts away! WTF... Back out of the car to hunt this one down.. lol. Brick Wall

Hi Sirius
Another caching day accompanied by Budgietas in the North West area.
I left home at 0500hrs, meeting up with the "flyer" at 0600hrs. I found 11 for the day while Budgie got 20 or 21. We got back to Budge's home at 2100hrs and I arrived back in Huonville an hour later.

"Oh my Gog" was my fifth find for the day. The drive to within about 150 metres of the cache saved my legs for later in the day. Great views! Great hide!! Log was signed at 1007hrs after finding GC16W7D and TP5158 first.

Prior to this I had found "Chudleigh hut" and "State of the Union"; others found today were the remainder of the "Gog series", some of sirius Tas' new ones around the Wilmot River and a couple in Devonport.

Overall a long and in some places a hard day but very rewarding. We both scored on flip flop (leech) bite each in the Wilmot area; I even carried one in my clothing back to Turners Beach where it tried to attach to my hand. No blood in my alcohol stream - TeHeHe!
Thanks Budge for another great day.

TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Our fourth find in the Follow TimTamToo and Swampy TTTBWECT.

Beautiful views, unlike the birthday tour we elected to park at the bottom and walk to the top. Nice walk and worth it for the views.

Sorry to say I didn't replace the ball as there is no ball in sight....What a brilliant clear sunny day up here. Found this cache along with the other 2 up here. Thank God for Swampy's N-Trail, didn't fancy walking it so drove all the way to the top. Took skeleton left party popper on account it is our TTTBWECT

Geocruiser got us to the top no views today as low cloud cover. Nice to pick up 3 caches in close proximity TFTC

Great day for the view when you get to the top. Thank god for 4wd's but be prepared to get a few scratches as tracks are growing over fast. Cache was easy to find and great to get three for one in the area.tftc

Magnificant view on sunny day. Went up in four wheel drive, road a bit washed out, would be a fair walk.Ocean to the north and snow to the south.

30-Jan-11
A perfect day for a walk and an easy find. Super views all around.

21-Sep-10
Found this cache with no problems. Awesome views from up here.
Left and Army Man to guard this cache and took a glow in the dark skeleton.
After the efforts my mates and I put in on the weekend, I'm pleased to say the track is drivable again (with a 4x4 of course) and is clear of fallen trees, at least until the next wind.

15-Sep-10
Checked on this puppy and guess what redtag....all is well with the proper cache?? Looks like you've found the original cache which has creeped out of its proper spot and indeed it was totalled. Have removed the offending cache....so just the one cache now....Cheers

Silly me weighted my pack with all the things I didnt need Embarassed
Once at the top I found the cache and the poor little thing was in desperate need of some love. The banana I had wasnt any use nor was the fishing rod, nor was my spare boots Shocked ....it needed a complete makeover and that was all back in the car! Sorry sirius but this one needs replacing when you get the chance. I signed the wet log book as best as I could and popped it back.
Certainly a brilliant place for a cache or 3
Thanks matey Cool
and a nice little one for milestone 2500 Very Happy

Although the track/road was in relatively good condition, the relentless climb up the constant grade was demanding. It was, however, made palatable by the thought of three caches at the top. At one stage we walked about 150m along the track but got 30m further away from the caches. The view from the top was great despite the overcast skies and regular sleety showers - would be a magnificent vantage point on a clear day. The walk down was much less taxing. We certainly got our exercise today as we completed three caches. On balance, we were glad that we rose to the challenge. This particular cache was the third quick find once we got to the top. TFTC

This is a fantastic view. The track is getting tougher due to water ruts. Took a little finding but was fun. Just be a litttle carefull on the track. We drove up.

07-Feb-10
A great view although still a little smokey from the fires that have been in this area of late. TNLN TFTC

17-Jan-10
Worth the trip just for the fantastic views
3 caches up here made it even better
Many thanks.

We drove to within a few metres of the cache in AWD Subaru Impreza. I wouldn't like to try it if it were wet and muddy, but the track was passable without doing any damage. There are a number of points that would allow an easy place to turn around if someone came part-way up and then changed their mind.

Found with dean_erwin (he's logged it on the wrong date).

An awesome view on a seriously under rated range. When I told people that I was camping at Gog Range they ,including some quite experienced walkers, said "where?" followed by "why?" The walk up the hill isn't too bad as the Eyrettes had little trouble coping with the well made fire trail. We enjoyed the wild flowers and also the unusual yellow worm we spied on the track. The views are magnificent. Thanks Sirius for highlighting yet another impressive place to visit and explore.

27-Oct-09
third attempt was a success thanks sirius, there now three caches here within a stones throw so it's certainly worth the trip up here but it would be a hardish walk if you dont have a 4wd.

25-Oct-09
Replaced cache in a new hide as cache had indeed been muggled. To make it worthwhile revisiting there is now another cache here...'Gog Hill...TP5158'.
Also increased rating a notch...as it's a fair walk......Cheers.

12-Oct-09
Looks like it may be gone....will check asap.

11-Oct-09
As previously stated this is now a no show.

will return when found or replaced

thnx no views today BRRRRRRRRR

Will check on this puppy soon as starting to look as if it may be gone.

Well I have no delusions of being a Gog or otherwise after my experience with this cache. First of all, I slogged it up the hill, after I left my little 2WD towards the bottom (towards, not at...came up a bit, did a 10 point turn and abandoned) (When some cachers have said that they could nearly bring up their 2WD's they've been correct...nearly, but NOT). Then I couldn't find the cache. Went and found the one nearby, came back and continued. Then I stepped on a rock that rolled away and I crashed down onto the rocks. Had to sit down for a while until the pain went and I no longer felt like passing out and being sick. Luckily though, it just seems to be grazed/bruised/sore and nothing more. I spent ages looking, but just couldn't find it. Thanks anyway, great views from the top.

29-Mar-09
Spent a very frustrating hour and a half searching for this cache but couldn't come up with the goods. GPS seemed all right thought the spot was fairly obvious. Just as well the view was worth the rough trip up.

20-Mar-09
As I stood atop the mountain and surveyed all before me, I exalted " YES, I AM A GOG " !!
It was hard not to be by such a panoramic vista.
Sort of brings a tier to one's eye.

I didn't walk all the way up this one I admit.
But I did park the geomobile and enjoy an amble up the last 500 metres of the track on a warm and sunny afternoon to reach the summit.

TFTC.

2008-10-04 17:35 Find #4 on my "Having Such A Good Time" Tour. Wow, what a stunning view. I'm glad the rain stopped before I got here.
Cachemobile didn't like it much when we got to the top - blew some steam off after I debussed.
TNLN. Cache is good order.
Thanks for bringing me up here sirius.

Did this the hard way. The whole clan slugged it up the hill, enjoying varying weather patterns... Heat, wind, rain, fog all in about 45 minutes!

As we approached the top of the hill we were treated to an ASTOUNDING view... I was really impressed with the panorama in front of me!

Tried for AGES to find the cache using the navman, but it was all over the place, so I took a break and hunted down the nearby GC cache, then returned to seeking this with my almost-flat Gecko, which kept it's power JUST long enough to come up with the goods!

Thanks for bringing me here, this was a real treat!

Another top spot! TFTC. Find easily made by papa feral who thinks like a bloke? 'and i forgot to log it online'

Fantastic spot, our Jimny cruised up & down nice and slow, I don't know if there are quite enough comments below saying this - THIS VIEW IS FANTASTIC!! if you don't have a 4WD do yourself a favour and make the effort to walk up - it's a slog but, in case you STILL haven't heard, the view is JUST BRILLIANT!!

What an adventure getting here, (see my log for All Agog GC16W7D), love the cache the getting here and the view, TN L smiley badge and GCA sticker,

Thanks sirius Tas for another excellent cache and location,

Great day for caching - clear blue skies all 'round and this one was the main target for the day. Had #2 son in tow. Put the fourby into 4LL just to be on the safe side and cruised to the top for the fantastic views. Known about this spot for aaaaaages and was planning a cache here myself - gazupmed by sirius - that'll teach me to be slack!

Did I mention the FANTASTIC views? Great cache TNLNSL, coords spot on too (nudge nudge wink wink) thanks
