Description
Cache is sited next to one of the main shafts in this area belonging to 'Star of The West' gold mine.
Mining occurred in the early 1900's using adits, shallow pits, vertical shafts and trenches.
Numerous vertical shafts have been found in this area and taped off....some may have been missed...so be careful.
Please don't enter any of the shafts...if you do so..IT'S AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Walking towards the shaft you'll notice a high bank...which is formed by excavated material from within the shaft.
Cache is a small sistema with log and pencil placed approx. 5m above and to the north of adit, up on the bank.
Entry off the road is marked with pink tape. From the 3rd tape in you can see where the cache is. Please stay in the open forest along the taped line. There are numerous vertical shafts just a few metres east...I fell partly in one while replacing this cache....a close call. BE WARNED.
Enjoy!.

Logs
If you stay on the pink tape line it is open bush with no scrub bashing and only a short distance off the road.
DO NOT walk in the thicker fern area to the east where numerous vertical shafts exist.
If you fell in one you would be unlikely to get out
so glad to have found this cache as i was worried it wasnt there because of not being logged in so long.

have added a more accurate co ordinance for fellow cachers.
Figured they were on the same trail we were at this point and decided we would drop the TB we found at previous in the first cache we found during the day that they had not in fact visited.
Would have been nice to catch up and meet them but I suspect they were a few hours ahead of us.
Not to hard to find but had to take care of the big holes. Although we entered via the logged area it would have been better to enter at the pink tape despite the fact that it looks impenetrable from the road.
Initially TomTom wanted us to go to Beulah and we found a track but the N-TrailTB wasn't going to go up there. We decided to give it a miss and go for the next cache at Gog Hill. On the way we found the correct road and went up that. It isn't on TomTom so thats why it sent us the wrong way....
Got to GZ and was worried that the cache had fallen victim to the logging and was heading out when i spotted the hint and there it was. Coords a little out today hence looking in the wrong spot.
TNLN, thanks sirius!

Probably worth a check to make sure the cache is still here.
This cache is now back in play!
When the cache is ready to be activated again the owner can place a 'published' log and it will go live.
Had a trip down the mineshaft until the ground became too boggy.
Many thanks Sirius.
Few holes in this area that you wouldn't want to fall in

Cache was out in the open but quite ok.
Will be back here in the summer with my metal detector hopefully to disprove the title.
Thanks
Thanks for highlighting this interesting spot, sirius.
But it was still worth the visit this afternoon to see the old mine workings.
The tunnel, er, adit is a work of craftsmanship.
I only stuck the torch and me head in there though
Half the fun was trying to find the Yellow tape to find our way in, which we EVENTUALLY found.
Enjoyed exploring the area... always amazed at how nature reclaims everything in the end!
I'm a sucker for an old mine site, so it was a very good place for me to notch up a landmark.
Thanks for the cache in a very interesting spot!
Grabbed the GC.COM TB and I'll try and move it on.
Took geocoin number PC6KK8, left Bart Simpson travel bug TB121JR. I don't know how to log it as dropped here - I can't find how to log bugs/coins in GA sites. The bug is still logged out to me by the system, even though I have dropped it. Next person to visit please grab it and log as grabbed! thankx
had been thru here on tas trail but too exausted to look sideways for gold . interesting spot for a ftf . t crab l yoyo thanks sirius
