Description

Bonzai with a hedge trimmer!

Now I haven't placed any caches for a while, so at the risk of adding to Devonport's cache saturation, here's a drive-by to get me back into cache-placing mode, and show you something as well.

I drove past this spot the other day and thought - how would you like to maintain these babies - I have enough trouble getting motivated to mow the lawn!  As if right on cue, the artisan responsible was ON TOP of his particularly inadequate ladder (hence the cache name), hedge trimmer in hand when I placed this cache!  Would love to find out how long it's taken to get to this stage - anyone game enough to knock on the artisans door and ask will find out I'm sure - but I'm too chicken to do so . . . .

The cache is a log only one (BYO pen), hidden in a pretty obvious spot - please don't drop it or it'll be lost forever!  Some stealth may be required as it is in the suburbs with the potential for a few prying eyes.  Perhaps park in front of the cache to use as a shield whilst retrieving!

Bit of an experiment with the combined stashnote/logbook, feel free to sign and date on the back as well -  if you think it's filling up too quickly, say so in your log and I'll make another one!

PS If only I'd been quicker to place that cache on the Gog Range, then that one wouldn't have been SIRIUS'  either lol!!!!!!

Logs

This geocache appears to be MIA so to stop it clogging the search lists we'll archive it. This is done to keep the geocaching Australia clean and up to date.

If the owner can confirm it is in place the listing can be resurrected by placing an "unarchived" log against it.

14-Apr-18
This one needs a bit of owner maintenance, in particular a check to see if it's still there!

14-Apr-18
Like the last few cachers who have attempted this cache, I produced my first DNF for the day Sad

08-Nov-13
Not anywhere that I looked and I don't think there were that many places it could have been. Then again it was persisting down so.....

11-Jan-13
No luck

10-Oct-12
A nice easy find and I was able to shield Gz with the car so the prying eyes across the road could not observe the find and replacement. Very Happy

11-Apr-12
Very Happy a great day for caching. Devonport rocks!

05-Apr-12
I was just scoping out Devonport caches for when I'm up there over Easter, and this one wasn't appearing as found on the map. Turns out I never logged it! I'm afraid I have no idea when it was - it was last year some time, maybe even this time last year.
Geoniece was impressed with the topiary, which we had a closer look at. TFTC!

24-Mar-12
Easy find near the spectacular works of art. We'd never noticed these before even though we had been in the area a few times. TFTC

26-Feb-12
Our final cache for the morning - a beautiful morning it was !
TFTC - Co-ord spot on for us.

10-Feb-12
Found with my sister, jefina. Our Uncle as mentioned was once the Curator of the Devonport Oval and would have enjoyed meeting fellow cachers and discussing his garden and sculptured trees. Thanks for bringing us back to recall old memories.

10-Feb-12
Smile Found while visiting old haunts with deadolga. The artisan referred to was my uncle who died in December 2011 (not sculpting trees)at the age of just a week under 81. The trees have taken over 50 years to get this way and the owner had a magnificent garden in past years with prize winning dahlias. TFTC jefina

Yep found it in the pouring rain and in the dark. Could do with a new log, space is running out! Cool

24-Apr-11
There is not much space in the log book any more. It's an interesting location. TFTC

18-Mar-11
log book was full, needs to be replaced, easy find

14-Mar-11
nice easy drive by, very impressive!

27-Feb-11
This was amazing, never seen something as big as these before, mind you we did not go in and ask the obvious question, how does he do it?

19-Feb-11
bloody hell this took us some time to find.

03-Jan-11
Quick easy find TFTH

23-Oct-10
Amazing POI - this person(s) must have a great deal of time on their hands. Perhaps I could enlist their help to tame my jungle Laughing
Thanks for bringing us here. Cheers.

09-Oct-10
He was sirius, lol. Went to school with the sculptor's daughter. He has been maintaining those plants for a very long time. We think there were a few more in days gone by but that have been cut down for some reason. A top spot for a cache once again. Thanks

08-Oct-10
Keeping up my cache-a-day streak. This was a very easy lunchtime cache, regardless of the muggle builders hanging around. Nice log book - all squares have been used, but there's plenty of room to cram more in. I didn't see the trees until I turned around with the cache - all makes sense now! TFTC

05-Oct-10
Have been past this place for the last 3 years but as I am new to Geocaching wasn't aware of the cache.

20-Sep-10
Quick find by Geo Kid E with a first time caching nephew with us.

Log sheet is full and needs replacing shortly

27-Jun-10
so close to home and never knew it was there brilliant!

15-Jun-10
Found and logged the cache at 1510hrs as my 7th find of 10 today; 576 overall. Wondered why some one had placed a cache here, so decided to read the precis and voila; all fell into place. Great idea - TFTC and cheers OldSaint.

18-Feb-10
Very nice garden opposite

03-Feb-10
extremely quick driveby great hide

03-Feb-10
Quick find, great work of art by the owner.

21-Jan-10
These topiary are certainly labours of love. They have taken many years to shape and refine and are now an attraction of sorts. We don't mind seeing them in another person's garden but would not appreciate them in our own garden. We would rather have more natural forms of trees and shrubs. The cache was a quick find and, thankfully, no muggles were around. Thanks for the cache.

06-Nov-09
Kinda felt like there were many eyes on me as I pull into GZ, but no one really seemed to care. My first thought was the cache was there to highlight the tennis centre (think McEnroe), but then it all became clear! Thanks.

12-Sep-09
We found this while in the middle of another multi.
Hairdressers with power tools! Yeah!
SL
Thanks ST

11-Sep-09
WOW! How much patience must this guy have? We took photos of it and admired his handy work before grabbing the cache. Very impressed, wonder if he does lawns? (Mine in particular!)

TFTC, that was well worth checking out.

31-Aug-09
I can't say I have ever seen topiary like this before, pretty amazing but the people that live there must be dedicated. Thank you for bringing me past this house Smile

06-Aug-09
Interesting botanical sculptures! The mini helper was off towards the cache before I'd even decided which way to head. Unfortunately he wasn't quite tall enough for this hide so I had to retreive it for him.

03-Mar-09
first find of australian caches.

24-Feb-09
Just in Devonport for half a day on 'my little foray north". A nice quick find and log, no-one around and the car and phone provided plenty of cover anyway. Only a mild panic when I couldn't find the magnet - oh - thats right its all built in!.

08-Feb-09
As usual I hadn't read the cache notes and was just riding along headed for GZ.
Well it didn't take much imagination to see what the focus of this cache chase was going to be !!
What wonderful works of horticultural artwork.
I'm not sure what the front one actually is, but the other two are obvious.
TFTC and siriusness Smile

07-Feb-09
Follow the clues and it's a nice easy find. Take care, muggles abound.

Ditto with the lawn thing! The rose arch was pretty speccie too!

22-Nov-08
Clever hide Rippunzel and a very cute little log book. Good cache for a wet Saturday as it is just a quick dash from the car.

22-Oct-08
A nice easy one. Good for a beginner like me. Looks like the plants are nearly ready for a hair cut!!! And no I am not volunteering!!! Thanks Rippunzel.

21-Oct-08
Last find of the day just as the sun was setting. I had just been up on the bluff watching the day fold into evening and thought I would check this cache out. Impressive amount of trimming required too.
Thanks

21-Sep-08
ooh thanks for such a NICE looking micro logbook. Pleasure to leave our stamp Smile Easy find and took silly wrestling pic for GEosportz cachinggames.com

04-Sep-08
The owner of the hedge was busy trimming today, that probably happens on a lot of days

21-Aug-08
I am glad the trimming task is not mine. A look from the cache at the work involved was enough to wear me out. TFTC

05-Jul-08
A nice quick find and log it in the car before replacing.
Thanks rippunzel

05-Jul-08
Late at night on a cold winters night makes this easy to find, log and replace as there wasn't a muggle in sight. Another one this weekend where gspblu had it found before I even got my seatbelt off and got out of the car.
Thanks rippunzel

15-Jun-08
After reading the logs I was terrified that I would be the one who dropped it. Thankfully, this cache has survived my fat little fingers. Nice logbook. TFTC.

07-Jun-08
2008-06-07 16:33 A tricky recovery, not helped by the muggle ball contest occurring over the fence. Excellent cammo on the cache.

01-Jun-08
Wow nice! kinda makes me feel lazy lol.
Great hide, I hope no one drops it, Thanks for the Cache!

10-May-08
A quick find on the way to another location, lots of people around this morning so needed to be careful. A good warmup.

04-May-08
Found easily at 0825.
Can only be in 1 of a 1000 places.
Thanks rippunzel.

04-Apr-08
Wow, impressive topiary, I have to wonder how the eyes of the horse were attached. I did come back later on with my kids to take photos and to marvel at the skill of trimming that would be needed to make the shapes.
The cache is pretty easy to find being in the most obvious place that fits the hint. The street was deserted on both occasions despite being just after 2pm.
I have never noticed this topiary despite this street being on one of my running circuits so a big thanks for making me pay attention to my town.

02-Apr-08
As I grabbed this under the cover of a dark and stormy night, I wasn't certain what the name referred to. Then there was some lightening to the west, and all was revealed! WOW! I wasn't game to knock on the door and ask about it, however I did 'turn around' in the drive for a better look! Thank you for showing me this - certainly not a geocacher! We've got something better to do on our weekends. Smile

27-Mar-08
A quick and easy one. Logged on way to start "dookie track 4" which I intended to be my 100 combined GC's and GA's.

18-Mar-08
Felt totally conspicuous retrieving the cache, but I suppose that's par for the course! A very impressive collection that! I would've taken some photos, but was starting to feel too uncomfortable. Will summon up the courage to do so next time I visit though!

12-Jan-08
Found this one at 2.31am,
there were no muggles about,
Thanks rippunzel

12-Jan-08
Found this one at 2.31am while doing some night time caching so there were no muggles about t get in the road, They are definitely a work of art,
Thanks rippunzel

12-Jan-08
Was tricky to do as we was dodging some-one mowing the lawn...We retrieved it OK...

SL.....Cheers!!!

06-Jan-08
Nice easy find...was really afraid of muggles peering out at us but im sure i got away with it.

09-Oct-07
I liked this one. For a minute i thought that i'd have to go into the grounds till the GPS centered itself. Thanks for the cache

24-Sep-07
Great hide!
Ive been travelling past this place for years.
Many thanks.

04-Sep-07
I LOVED it! It's bringing others to quirky things like this that caching is just great for. Thanks Rippunzel. Parked in front of cache, great placement too.

06-Aug-07
Nice easy cache to find . I did a walk by in the dark. Thanks for the cache Sirius

24-Jul-07
Returned to check out sculptures....definitely some of the best Topiary I've ever seen. The difficulty factor must be sky high...and a very athletic person as well. These things are hard enough at ground level let alone this high...amazing.Came from wrong angle last visit...and too many muggles to worry about. Thanks for this one rippunzel...it's a pity there aren't more cachers interested to pay a visit.Cheers.

15-Jul-07
Quite amazing sculpturing. Well worth the visit.
Could not get more drive by than this.
Well done.

30-Jun-07
Well...actually I am sirius.Rummaging through GCA and what do I find...a cache that hasn't been published...and with my caching name as well.Just had to hop into geofourby and get a FTF..only fair.In the heat of the moment..didn't actually see or twig to what I was meant to see(far more worried about using stealth to retrieve).Neat little book..well made.TFTC Cheers rippunzel.
