Description
Great views from the only hill around
To help break the drive to Broken Hill, this is a slight detour off the road to get some idea just how flat this country really is!
To drive to the location, when you get close to it on the Barrier Highway, turn down the Canbelego Road. After about 650 metres there is an unlocked gate on the right that allows you to drive to the cache location. Watch out for the low slung powerlines at GZ!
To claim this find you must sign the logbook unless it is unusable.

West New South Wales trip 2020. Day 2. I was joined by MinnieK and Fitzy_1965 for a trip planned to go from
Goulburn to Forbes, Nyngen, Cobar, Broken Hill, Wentworth and Balranlad. After a sleep in we left our overnight
stop at Warren and headed to Cobar via Nyngen. There were a few caches along the way, but most of the action
was the Australian Towns series North of Cobar, and a great selection of local caches. The two Earth caches
were the highlight.
This short detour took us up two of the peaks on this outcrop. First we did the physical cache, then made out way up to the trig.
Thanks

Moved with CO permission due to constant muggling. New coordinates are at S31° 32.508' E146° 16.974'
We were not sure how far our low clearance 2WD sedan would be able to get up the road leading to this cache and the nearby trig but decided to give it a go anyway.
After going through the gate we were pleasantly surprised to find the narrow road sealed. As we headed slowly along a sheep suddenly appeared one the road in front of us. It was soon joined by a small flock of ewes and lambs. We crawled along until the leader decided to take the flock off the road into the scrub. The second gate was open so we continued up until we reached the end of the road.
After climbing to the trig point on top of the ridge we drove to the start of the rough road to the top of the second hill and comms tower. We left the car and walked to the top of the hill where we had no trouble locating the cache.
Container and contents were in good condition.
After replacing the cache container we enjoyed the view before headinģ back to the car.
Thanks for the cache Richary and for bringing us to this part of your state.

Came here after the trig to see if I could find a cache, found an hidden cache I hope ???? Under a big rock – found a steel Christmas container with a note in it – that they found it & will return in a year or 2 it’s on a children’s puzzle sheet – no log book. So added a log book & some children’s mags & hidden well in its nice hidy hole – like others that have noted this looks like a popular overnight spot or other things - TFTC / TFTH / SL

Grabbed the trig and then headed over to the other hill on the bikes to look for this cache. Spent a good half hour before admitting defeat and returning to the campervan. Decided to check previous logs and after deciding that we were probably looking for an ammo tin, and that limited the potential hiding spots, we headed back over for a second look. After another half an hour we admitted defeat for good! Curse, drat, damn and all that! Hate not finding physical GCA caches.
But an interesting spot to visit and a challenging drive up here in the campervan.

This morning I was awoken by the dawn chorus
The singing of the birds, and the sounds of kangaroos hopping past me tent !!
No traffic noise from the highway reached me at camp
In the slight chill, before the flys woke up, I enjoyed a hot cuppa, and a brekky of cereal and toasted muffins with jam ... yummo !!
Ok !! Time to head to the top of that hill I can see four kilometres away.
At the appointed distance down the road from the highway, I found a gate ... unlocked
And followed the single lane bitumen road all the way to the top of the hill
A herd of feral goats was there to greet me
I made like a mountain goat and headed for the trig point
Trig point found, I looked at the GPS to see where this cache was hiding.
Oh !!
Over there on the other hill
A short drive along a rough dirt track soon had me at the top of hill number two.
Where I found evidence of 'romantic fires', the remains of a romantic twilight pizza, and discarded, romantic beer and JB&Cola cans
I was here at the very unromantic hour of 7:30am on a Sunday, so no snogging muggles were encountered, and I soon found this large, robust cache
TFTC, and bringing me out to a fabulous spot which I would normally drive past because I would not have guessed that you could visit !!

Finally got here! What an amazing view!!!
So, I took an Ammo can, notebook and pencil with me. We found the stash in a mess half in half out of a plastic bag. Upon slowly prying the saturated pages apart, I came to realise quickly that it has indeed been found since 2010. This place seems to be a bit of an "inspiration point" for Cobar young couples and adventurers - there were a number of logs, most of them in groups of two . Last log was earlier this year.
With that in mind, I hope the ammo can stays and doesn't become desired property. I hid it well in the same location. Took pathtag and left ammo can, etc. I really hope they leave it there.
And anyone who sees this on the map and considers whether it is worht stopping for... YES! Especially at sunset like when I was there.

Sorry. I came armed with ammo can and all, but it was pouring rain and sooooo cold, I had to give it a pass. Pulled up at the gate even. On my next trip out in June I will bring the Ammo can and try again if not replaced before. Sorry I couldn't help... or log a find... or enjoy the view....especially sorry I missed the view.

I'm going to give this one a go this weekend. Headed to Cobar and will see how I go - may run out of daylight heading to and from. Will take sturdy container, log book, and pen just in case. It's been a while since last found/noted as damaged. Is there anything else significant needed for the cache? Any chance you send me a private message with any other search hints to make it a quick fix job, like what the container was made of, size, colour, or is the clue suffice?
Nearly 3 years between finds, so I'm not surprised it is getting a bit brittle and needs replacement. Unluckily no idea when I will be out that way next, if someone heading across would like to put a new container out for me it would be much appreciated. I'm happy to bank transfer or paypal a few bucks your way to cover the cost.
When placed I didn't realise that ideally a cache in these conditions should be a solid PVC pipe or ammo tin!

The road was rough, but found the cache. In need of replacement. Urgently. Sorry, we didn't have a suitable replacement with us.
A quick drive by grab on the way to Broken Hill to place some caches for the Burke & Wills 150th anniversary. Our second day of caching - so far, lots of finds, but no placing.
The road was a bit rough for our 2WD, but we made it. The container is brittle, broken into pieces, and desperately in need of replacement, but we didn't have a suitable one.
