Description

This cache was originally a multi but it appears various signage etc is missing.

Have now made it a traditional cache....as of 13/1/2013

The preferred access is via the parking area, about 800m from the Wilmot Bridge. ( S41° 16.566  E146° 13.341 )

The track is about 20m south of the car park, western side of the road. Look for the tyres !

From here you descend down the zigzags to the river and follow south to Shoestring Crossing...as per notes by...

http://billshep1.wordpress.com/

During the winter months(high river levels) access can be had by parking in the first parking bay on your right on Jamiesons road, just before the first house.

The road is a Crown Lands Road Reserve, so access along this route is ok by foot, again see notes in above link.

Please follow all signs and keep to the designated road reserve(marked) through the last private property, and DO NOT wander around or trespass else where and keep all gates as found.

Many thanks to Tassie Trekkers for replacing the cache...much appreciated guys.

Cache is a green pill bottle with log and pencil.....no need for bush bashing.

Please replace carefully.

Enjoy.

Tackled the Dooley track today with TrimbleTAS. Very Much enjoyed this walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could without crossing the river then turned back to the vehicle.
We then drove down to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd after reading that we could right down to the river level to continue the track from there to the north.
we did also attempt to cross the River at Payne Crossing but we got out in the middle of the river and ran out of concrete pads to step on so turned back.

This was the last cache for the day and a quick find was made, on the way to this we found the log book and logged our walk on the trail where we saw that Bill had signed it today before we got to this.

Tackled the Dooley track today with DEZ055. What an amazing walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could before turning back to the vehicle and driving to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd to continue the track from there to the north.

QUick find for our last cache today. Cache in good order. TFTC Clan Cerberus

A return visit after not quite finishing this area back in Jan, not a chance a our group of 5 could leave this series unfinished.

Second to last cache for the trail, it's been a great trek in two stages and well worth the visit, thanks to all those who put the time and effort into the tracks and the caches!

Our last cache on this stretch of the river. Another one we needed to replace but we know that every cache is there now for the next adventures. Thanks sirius Tas for a wonderful walk and adventure. Just one more to do across the river....We'll drive down to there Wink
We didn't see this crossing on our last visit so unsure whether it was here or has been rebuilt. We came down Lucys Track last time.

After missing out on these last few when we were all up this way in January today was the return trip so we could clean them up.

This one we searched for a bit before doing as we had been asked and replaced the cache.

Hi Sirius, Had a great walk today, Started off from wilmot road and walked around the lucy track to start the hunt from east ellis, Stripped off my boots to do the crossing, Feet nearly froze, Had nearly finished my mission today looked up and here comes the 2ys heading in from the other way. Had a chinwag for awhile before heading off again. At one cache I got the log out to sign and found a leech hanging off me, Got him off rolled the log back up and I think I forgot to sign it . This thought hit me as I was crossing the river at shoestring crossing at the end of my mission with a gutted feeling I wasn't turning back to check. Thanks Sirius love these tracks

Hi sirius thanks for providing the information to complete this cache. We proceded to GZ and searched as per hint but could find no sign or cache. The floods have been as high as the shelter there so presume the cache has gone. We replaced cache hopefully in the right place - for those who follow the cache is under single dogwood tree next to several dogwoods with pink tape tied to them, directly opposite the shelter, next to the track no bush bashing required. It is a green pill bottle with log and pencil. Have completed all in this series now. Thanks for showing us a great track.

A rather long walk to get to the last way point but a great day and great bushland area resulted in an excellent afternoon.

Accessed this cache from River Road off Sprent Forestry. A lovely walk to this cache along a track we had walked not long before discovering our first cache and getting 'hooked'. Thanks for bringing us back here again. An easy find thanks to the clue. Hadn't even noticed that sign even though we came in from the south. To busy looking at the newer more professional looking ones.

Last in the series and somehow we made this walk a lot more convoluted than it needed to be... Another hill bypass (but thankfully nowhere near as bad as #4!) Then we made the mistake of following the pink tape off the road instead of following the road itself. Tape led to a bridge crossing. We followed the track, then discovered we were on the wrong side of the river and had to find a crossing. Found a place to cross, having no idea if it was Shoestring Crossing or not as it wasn't signposted, but there was a bit of a trail there and it led to the orange triangle signs, so we crossed here. Thankfully the river was low.

Once again on the correct side, we followed the orange triangles along a lovely ferny trail to GZ. Cache didn't take all that long to find, though I can see how it's easy to miss. Then we crossed the river again and walked back along the other side. Interesting to note the difference in the forest on both banks.

One of the more confusing cache series that we've done, but certainly all of them were great walks. Thanks!

After reading up on all the work that has gone on with the wilmot river walks, decided to finally get back and find #2 & 3 in this series. Set off with 8 year old son and neighbour with packed lunch intending to walk the circuit to East Ellis Crossing and back on the other side. The walking is very easy and picturesque, well sign posted with lots of interesting plaques. We had a lovely spring day and it was just great to be outside. Once at shoestring crossing we boiled up some river water for a cuppa and looked for the cache, which we found after a short search - good hide!. We packed up and continued on our way to #3. After passing some shelters and little creeks we came to a river crossing with concrete stepping stones that were under flowing water, so we had lunch while deciding whether to continue or go back the way we came - GPS was still indicating 700m to cache. After lunch we decided to give it a go. The concrete stepping stones had a rough surface and wernt slippery at all, but the river rocks were as slippery as one thing. We worked out that we had to aim our step to the upstream side of the concrete pads, because once our feet hit the water it would be pushed downstream before landing in the middle of the pad. After crossing without incident, we went 20m through the bush only to find a deeper crossing with some gaps in the concrete stepping stones. About half way across, I heard a shreik and a splash from behind - that was the neighbour going A over T and landing on her backside in the water. Shortly after son lost a runner never to be seen again. This was about the time I realised #3 was going to remain unfound today! We got back to shore, wrapped sons foot in a hand towel covered in a shopping bag, and walked back to the car, having had a great day out.
Happy Days! - thanks sirius.

Great day out - a little longer than we planned time pressing as schoolkids to be collected but lovely company today with one of the Strebor Wanderers and Geodog MKII - note to self: do not follow the GPS + read the signs for more than clues to caches Smile

Buoyed by our (me + forthferalz) find of #1, we set off in high spirits to find this one. Maybe too high, we ignored the orange markers going across the paddock and stayed on the (slippery, overgrown) track until we were nearly at the top of the hill. After deciding we were on the wrong track, we carefully descended and picked up the right trail to follow a lovely path to the cache which was quickly found.
After chatting to some friendly muggles who kindly gave us a map of the Dooley's Track, we retraced our steps to find some desperately needed lunch.
This cache is at a lovely spot, and I will be back to do the whole track along with #3 at some stage.
Took 3daygrowth's thing (Essendon lanyard?) and left round compass.

Thanks sirius for a great cache.

How great is that stepping stone river crossing? Terrific walk and was able to do a bit of a circuit - took the path up following the orange triangles past the gate and came back on the other side of the river using the bridge and crossing. Water over just two of the stepping stones. Just had the maths info for coordinates with me, no description or clue, and typically looked in every illogical and non-sensible spot first. Just when I was about to give up and head off, I looked in THE most sensible and logical hiding spot in the area and bingo, there it was! TNLNSL. (Took too much notice of GPS and not enough on common sense). Definitely doesn't have to be hard. Parked at the designated spot on Jamieson's Rd, about a 5km return journey. Thanks sirius, that trail is a gem of a find, I really enjoyed it. And it was fitting being 2nd to find on this #2 after being first to find on the #1! Thanks!

My first FTF! Decided to do this straight after the No1 trail and wasnt very well prepared. The first river crossing wasnt intuitive and I spent a while bush bashing to find the trail. Homed into GZ easily after this but spent 2 hours poking around for the cache. Really enjoyed the solitude and tranquility. Was about to give up due to hunger and thirst when I noticed the clue. Easy after that!
Many thanks Sirius Tas, and looking forward to the next in the series.
Took tattoo. Left Essendon lanyard complete with monkey fist.
