Description

Drive By

Thought a nice easy drive by cache on this busy road would be a good idea so I did it. Can remember many years ago on the way up the east coast for holidays our car struggling up this hill and overheating badly. Does not seem possible now. Anyway hope the cache is enjoyed and please try to re hide it well.

Logs

29-Dec-20
Driven past this cache far too many times and never really had chance to stop to find this one. Today we managed to stop and find it. The cache was out in the open and the sun had weathered the container making it very brittle. Some of the contents had melted too.
The cache was beyond repair so we replaced it with a new container and ziplock bag, and rehid it in the obvious spot. TFTC!
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan

#GA2872 - 12:50; After arriving in Tasmania last Saturday and heading down to Hobart for a few days, the geohoney and I were now headed north for a few days in Launceston. We decided to take the scenic route up the east coast, to avoid the roadworks on the Midlands Highway and to enjoy some nice views and collect a cache or two on the way. After stopping off in Richmond, we were now heading along the Tasman Highway. Stopped near the top of the hill to collect this as we passed. A quick find at GZ, although the container is quite brittle due to age and the lid is cracked. Log signed and another dragonZone in the bag Clapping TFTC March Brown Very HappyClan Cerberus

Countless times we've driven past this spot saying "there's a cache there, must stop sometime". Shame on us. Today we made certain to stop & smell the flowers. Well, admire the bush perhaps. Gall bladder checked and found present & in good order. Should provide another 10 years sterling service if treated with care. Thanks March Brown.

I had been to the closing down sale at Pulchella Nursery and stopped to find this cache I'd been aware of for a few years. I easily found it without my GPS. TFTC.

08-Mar-16
We were very surprised to find the cache placed on top of all the camouflage material in the hide. It may have been muggled but fortunately not damaged or taken. After signing the log we re-hid it as I’m sure it was meant to be under not on top. This 8 + year old cache is in very good order. TFTC March Brown.

Enjoy drive along from East coast.
nice hide
thanks March Brown Mr. Green

I have driven past this cache a number of times and had no time to stop but today I remember to call in as I headed south after getting an GC earthcahe by Red Tag north of Buckland, well when I say I remembered what I mean is I drove past and had to do a U turn lol.

I parked right next toi GC and had a good idea of where I needed to look, in no time at all I had it found and added my name to the log.

Thanks for the cache

Zal and I spent 10 days touring Tasmania and it was the most amazing trip ever! We got engaged at Cradle Mountain and saw so many wonderful things. Even the weather played nice most of the time Razz Thanks for the hunt, it is always tricky logging lots of holiday finds so apologies for the cut'n'paste log, Zal included more details Wink

20-Dec-14
Off to our last night in Tassie on what has been a most remarkable holiday! Aside from getting engaged at Cradle Mountain this week the quality of the caches (and weather!) has been fantastic and we have both agreed it is the best trip we have had together so far. We grabbed this one on route to Freycinet Lodge where we'll spend our last night. Cheers from Sydney!

We left a dry and warmish Hobart to head to a wet and cold Orford for lunch. Rolling Eyes We couldn't drive by this cache so pulled up in the nearby driveway and made a quick find. TFTC

TFTC.

The second last cache that the CEyres were to discover in Tasmania! I had heard of this hill before moving to Tas from some cycling friends of mine in Western Queensland and I had the chance to see the photo of them gall-less next to the sign. Neutral Our current visit co-incided with a nearby family celebration and we took the opportunity to stretch our legs and find the cache. We were amazed at the motorcyclists belting past and a more apt name for them would be "Bust-my-bike" corner because they were intent on being the next Casey Stoner.
Thanks March Brown for the cache.

Great name for a hill! On a rather cold morning, we pulled up here and quickly found the cache before heading back to the warmer car! TFTC March Brown.

14-Sep-12
On the way up the hill, Mrs RC counted down the distance.
When I pulled over, I assumed I knew where the hide was, but had I read that it was March Brown I would have know where it actually was.
A quick find, and onward to the East Coast.
Thanks.

Very strange name - curious as to the history behind its naming. A nice drive by and a quick find. Thanks for the cache March Brown.

Well the weather was just ideal for a bushwalk to the Three Thumbs and to collect a few geocaches during the trip. However, the geocaching part looked a bit shaky as Peter’s GPS did not display any in the area. A later check at home showed the records were on the GPS and when overwritten with a new copy they displayed OK; puzzling! All was not lost because Barad Bunch had notes on the caches and the grid on his GPS. This enabled us to locate the one near the cars.
After getting Two Thumbs Up and Three Thumbs Up we headed back to Orford hoping for a coffee; the tables and chairs were set up outside the café but a notice said closed Wednesday, and that what the day was; coffee was therefore at the Buckland roadhouse on the highway home. With coffee or for some hot chocolate finished we crossed the road to #100 !
Three more were on the agenda during the drive home.

In this case the cache was one recorded only under the Australian web site and Barad Bunch didn’t have it on his GPS, but we stopped at the sign and spotted a couple of potential containers in the rapidly fading light but they were red herrings. Eventually a final try several metres on proved to be successful. Not bad we though for having no coordinates, description or hints and in the dim light.

A reasonably quick find in the company of Sue&Peter (and one other). We were returning from an enjoyable walk to the Three Thumbs and it was dusk when we found this cache. TNLN. Thanks.

Busy little spot for vehicle traffic but managed to casually check and log. Could well imagine car engine getting bit a warm on a hot day particularly heading north.

Thanks March Brown

My son had footy at Triabunna today, a very early start for us as the coach wanted players there by 8.30. But I had my own conditions, anyone who wanted a ride with me - also had to pay back with a bit of geocaching fun. So after the game I had the help of two footy players and my sons girlfriend. I hadn't planned on this cache but when I saw the sign there was a little spark of recognition and with a quick stop, my son's girlfriend made her first solo find. Might have a couple of converts - or at least some willing caching assistants. TFTC

27-Mar-10
Second find on the way to Sorell. TFTC

Found by Greenish as mr CP wasn't exactly decent after his adventures at Dead Island. Took nothing, left nothing thanks for the cache March Brown.

25-Jan-10
Found the cache by pure accident. I wasn't even a member of Geo Caching Australia at the time. This cache made me join and find out about what this great web site offers

I was planting a series along the corners to Swansea, and this looked like a perfect position. Just I was beaten to it by another cacher.

Thank you for the cache and introducing me to the GCA web site

Dear fellow cachers,
It is I, Sonic the super bird!

Driven past this place so many times and to think there was a cache there all along!
Retrieved this one on the way back from a nice stay in Orford.
Lots of muggles driving by in cars and PF2 decided to make DaBoss get out and find this one so "it didn't look weird.".
But DaBoss isn't very good at looking casual (and normal for that matter), she just gave the muggles driving, an evil stare.
She has much to learn...
Great cache. So cute! Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks.

Over and out,
SONIC THE SUPER BIRD.

Found on my way home via the East Coast.

I've driven past the cache a few times before but was unable to stop, but today I had no excuses!

Found easily.

Thanks!

Found at 1652hrs as my 39th cache find. A quick find on the way to or back from Orford. but those travelling this route should ensure they do "#100 !" at Buckland too.
Intersting position as the muggle vehicles drive by. Some strange looks on drivers faces as they go past.
Thanks and cheers

Quick find as we drove past. Swampy had convinced me that when in Tasmania do as the Tasmanians do and find GCA caches as well!!
In SA GCA caches can sit for weeks unfound by any locals at all, we seem to only use the forum.

Might inspire me to hide a few GCA caches back home.

Found on our post Easter camping trip. Fond memories of the old road up this hill, hard to believe how many cars struggled over the years when looking at the modern road. TFTC Cheers Quilter

Yay, Dippy has finally found another cache! Have wanted to do this one the last few times heading up this way, but things like a car dying on the previous hill have until now prevented me from getting it! Thanks gpsblu for the break!!!

02-Mar-08
Thank you for providing me with my only find for a day of driving, driving, driving. And stopping the car was VERY popular with Lottie, who was a bit tired of the car after yesterday - and unimpressed that today didn't have as much bushwalking as the day before. (Don't worry abou her too much - we hit a couple beaches one the way north.)

01-Mar-08
Nice easy find.
Many thanks.

23-Jan-08
On my way home from Long Marsh, I grabbed this one between the traffic.
This is find #700 in total and my #100th GCA cache find (so that is 1GCA for every 6GC)
TNLN as I didn't have any small swaps.
Thanks gspblu.

18-Nov-07
Found it, driving from the east cost back home. Thanks.

14-Nov-07
Gspblu, you don't mind these exposed caches, do you? Anyway, it was nice to have an easy drive-by to get the day started on the right foot. Took geocoin before I remembered redtag's previous log. TFTC.

BTW, it looks like someone may have left a strip of 'gspblu, rebulus & redtag' stickers in there by mistake... (-:

11-Nov-07
Had to make a quick trip up to Bicheno today and it was great to have a drive by cache to do on the way. I gave the teenage red tag and his female friend the GPS while I searched the car for a pen ..... they found the cache before I found the pen!.
OK now for confession.....I left a Geocoin in a GCA cache .....but I will retrieve it when I go back up there in a few weeks, so it can just have a short break at a cool cache.
TFTC gspblu. I took the earplugs and used them to block out the really bad singing from the sibling on the way home, and left some xmas earrings (and the coin)

26-Oct-07
