Description
A fantastic half day walk on Maria Island
At the northern end of the mountain ridge that runs
from the north to the south of Maria Island, stand the
twin peaks of Bishop and Clerk. These towering
dolerite columns are so named because of the
resemblance to a bishop, wearing a mitre, being
followed by a clergyman. This walk takes you from
grasslands along the edge of the Fossil Cliffs, through
open forest and tall woodland, to the rocky slopes
where you will rock hop then finally scramble over
boulders to reach the summit. It is a medium grade
walk but the last part is quite difficult. Care should be
taken along the cliff edge and on the boulders,
especially with groups of children. Be sure to take
adequate clothing as it will be cold at the top. Wear
sturdy shoes and carry food and water with you. If
you have a pair of binoculars it would be a good idea
to take them.
Round Trip: 4 hours
To log this cache, take a photo of yourself standing on top of the highest boulder.
Enjoy the view across the island.

Logs
Found this cache after going to Apple Isle Moot on my post tour.
I’ll be in Tassie till the 29th of January
I’ve may have added one of my moot pathtags for the next person to find
Found this one on the last day, we did the hike up Bishop and Clerk first thing in the morning and grabbed some caches on the way through.
Being up the top here with half a dozen teenagers hopping about like mountain goats was a bit nerve wracking but I managed to take a picture of hubby anyway, TFTC
Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed this cache. The walk was superb and the reward from making it to the top was incredible! We probably spent 1.5 hours at the top admiring the view before descending. TFTC!
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan
What a great walk and fantastic views on a great day.
This was day 5 of a 5 day walking trip around the island.

My owners went to Maria Island and as Junior now has a bike with gears bike-riding is a breeze for him - so with PF2 he attempting Bishop & Clerk early in the morning.
Well, they made it and just missed the top (like Kmiatae) and hope that they can still log this one.
They thoroughly enjoyed it and TFTC!
Over and out,
SONIC THE SUPER BIRD.
Here with my Grade 10 Camp and it is just so good, I cant wait to come back!
The Clouds had just shifted as we reached the top. Which was great. The view angle was amazing. By far the best view I have ever seen.
I am glad I managed one cache on the island, I was to busy to do any others on this trip.
As you can tell by my hair I was camping in tents and also there was no showers because the water level was to low. But who needs showers? ha
Thanks so much for the cache!
Tahnks tronador
It took 2 hours to get there and some parts were pretty challenging.
I didn’t think I had a fear of heights until the last few meters when I had to take the last 3 steps to the tallest rock. My legs were trembling and it took every bit of strength I could muster to stand up for the required ‘standing’ photo.
Thanks for the brilliant cache Tronador.
The trip over this morning had more up & downs than any roller coaster I've been on, and shortly after arriving on the island we experienced a moderate thunderstorm. I was starting to get worried!
Anyway, after a wonderful talk by one of the local rangers about aboriginal history in the area, etc. a small but determined group headed off into the clouds, and within 2 hours we were at the summit.
It was amazing how quickly the conditions changed up there. Every so often we'd have clear views to the Tasmanian mainland (including Freycinet) without a hint of cloud heading our way, and then within seconds we'd be shrouded on fog.
Thanks tronador for the encouragement to brave the weather and make it to the top. It was a great day!
