21-Jun-20
out and about with 1 Lil Rafa caching in Launceston for the weekend, having never seen or been to this island in the middle of the river, it just had to be done, the walk was glorious, nice sunny cool not cold day the rain kept away and lots of reflections in the water, nice views everywhere. TFTC TNLN log dry. another great weekend away. miserable weather in Hobart.

Thanks for the cache Sirius Tas.
In Launceston for the weekend with RLD4963. Have always wanted to visit Tamar Island, so with the weather behaving itself we headed out today. Lots of people on the track today, families, couples, friends, kids, old people, young people, students - you name it, they were out there. So good to see so many locals visiting this area. We approached GZ from above, a lovely scenic spot, and made a quick find.

Easy find. First GCA find.
I am never really going to get into Geocaching Australia though.

28-Sep-17
Hello sirius Tas thank you for the cache.

Junior EeePees was in Launceston doing some refereeing at some soccer games over the weekend so EeePees asked me if I wanted to join him for the weekend and see if we could find some caches while J.E.P. was refereeing. Of cause I jumped at the chance to spend the weekend with such a great mate and find caches in and around Launceston.

This was my 6th for the day and the 8th for the weekend.

As we continued our journey around the island searching for caches I quickly found this cache.
As we were signing the log we spotted some muggles heading out they had no idea we were there so it wasn't a problem to replace it.
At lest now the rain had stopped but it was still overcast and miserable.

I ended up with 28 caches today and 55 caches found over the weekend and one DNF.

Found at 2144

Hi ST, think this is the first cache of your that I've found. Was out and about geocaching with AlbyDangles, and were lucky enough o score a FTF on a nearby newie, before heading up to find this one. All in good order at GZ. THANKS for the cache.

15-Jul-17
an early morning walk with the egg and stainless-steel-rat was most enjoyable in the mist. we did the whole circuit finding all the GCA and GC. TFTC

A nice walk out to the island and lots of tourists out as well but none at GZ. Cache in good condition and over 80 weeks unfound.!

05-Oct-15
Suffering with flu but needed to head out and find a cache. So decided to tackle the caches here in the wetlands.

Found the new cache but it was upside down so had some water in it already. Signed the log and put it up the
right way. Hopefully it will stay safe.

Thank you so much to MAC-001 for replacing the cache and contents.
I hope I can repay your kindness some day.....many thanks and very much appreciated.
It's moments like this that makes geocaching so special.
Cheers. Very Happy

28-Sep-15
I have replaces this cache with a similar container, new log book and pencil and some swaps. The old cache was in a disgusting condition and probably a health risk!

06-Sep-15
Easy find but the cache contents are in a terrible condition, water has obviously got in, and some slugs had taken up residence. Everything was moldy so I couldn't actually sign the log but do have a photo of it. Great hide though and if I get up there again in the next couple of weeks, I will replace it all.

13-Jul-15
Found after I looked all over the place because I can't put GCA caches on c:geo, only had clues and map on paper. TFTC

29-Jun-15
Lovely sunny winter's day so why not get out for a stroll. Easily located however it is in a fairly poor state. Unable to sign the log as is totally saturated.. thanks..!!

05-Sep-14
We've done this lovely walk on a number of occasions, both before & after our caching birth. Last time we weren't "doing" GCA's (silly us) so another stroll was on the cards to collect this one. Flicked a slug out of the cache rim which had clearly taken up residence (though I haven't a clue what he'd been eating. Things are "siriusly" in need of some TLC I'm afraid. Baggie has seen better days & logbook was more like a sponge. After making sort of an impression on it (more of a dent in the papier mache than a name) I found a fresh baggie & some spare paper in my caching bag to keep things rolling. Downside was this was only an eclipse size baggie so it won't last long. kicked myself as I'd left the right size bag back in the cachemobile.

We stopped at the Tamar Wetlands on whim, as we were passing and had never been here. We weren't really thinking ahead, and didn't take the gps with us. When we were out on the island and recalled there might be caches in the area we had to resort to iTechnology - which might have been fine if we had ever worked out how to use the software! Luckily the ipad guided us to where the cache was trying to escape downhill instead of remaining in its hiding place - to which we returned it. TNLN TFTC

A huge thank you to thomarter for replacing the pen.....much appreciated. Clapping

15-Oct-13
Taking my father-in-law for a walk here I decided to see if there were any new caches in the area and to read up on the status of the ones I knew about. Thus I stopped off and took the non-working pen and replaced it with a pencil for those poorly prepared cachers who don't carry a writing implement with them. I wonder how they sign those micro-caches?

24-Sep-13
Re pen. All future finders please byo ink stick...if this isn't too much to ask.

23-Sep-13
Needs a new pen, the current one doesn't work

Went for a walk out to Tamar Island this afternoon so logged this while I was there.

15-Jul-13
We had the place to ourselves no doubt due to the passing showers and being a weekday. We were lucky however to have a good break in the weather for our wetlands meander. Nice views up and down the Tamar from the cache. Lovely spot.

01-Jul-13
Quick find with Friesianess who expressed glee at locating a sheepy Shaun. Mind you, she hadn't had the foresight to bring any swaps with her so the situation was tense until my pack produced a collie!
Cache was in good condition. Getting on for six years. Just shows how well the simple but effective caches work, even though a read of the logs shows this one has had it's share of adventures. Still there though!

10-Apr-13
Good spot ! But could use a new pen and ziplock bag note pad was damp

An easy find after a lovely stroll in an area we'd never visited before. Thanks for giving us a reason to come here.

04-Jul-12
Another nice, easy find on a beautiful sunny day while we enjoyed this walk. Interestingly the cache has recently been found by muggles who signed the log and kindly left it in place. (We have included a picture of that log.) Thanks sirius Tas for a nice hide. Very Happy

While my wife attended a conference in Launceston I was allowed to go caching for two days in and around the Launceston Area. In the end I managed to go through to Derby and get the icem cache I wanted to find, through to Kayena and check my caches there and clear out the majority of Launceston Traditionals that were actually there. The only one that I failed to get was "Power to the People", where I simply ran out of time.

Another great cache in a very nice area. Thank you for the cache and the walk. I noted that the cache had not been found for a while, so let me report it is in good condition and has no problems.

30-Apr-11
Absolutely loved the walk through the Wetlands as did Annie. Had a perfect day which made for good photography too!! Heaps of visitors walking the boards today. Thanks for taking me here sirius. Cheers; OldSaint.

24-Apr-11
Finding a cache here was an excellent conclusion to this lovely walk. The area was very popular today, being a public holiday, but this was nicely out of sight to sign and return to the hidey hole. Thanks for the hunt sirius Tas.

A very enjoyable walk to the Island in good weather. TFTC TNLN Very Happy

Many thanks for the info Fairly Magic....this cache certainly gets the wanders from time to time...but glad it's returned all dry. It's been placed out at the gate...which I returned back to GZ...then found in the toilet block...which was then kindly returned to GZ by a cacher.
Great spot to explore out there...so glad you guys had a ball...Cheers ST.

26-Jan-11
Quilter, Netballer and Tim The Enchanter have been camping in Legana for a holiday. Sirius drove up last night and we headed out for a drive. We stopped and wandered in to the interpretation site. A very chatty and informative gentleman took us on a tour and explained about the pest fish, pointed out the endangered frogs, and then told us about the walk out to the island and the ship wrecks and the plough in the tree. He also mentioned there are copper head snakes and other wildlife but if we keep to the boardwalk all will be fine. Netballer wanted to see the plough in the tree and TTE wanted to see the ship wrecks. Quilter was most impressed that there was a boardwalk all the way to the island, because she had seen the cache but had no idea there was a board walk and access would be quite so easy.

The walk was listed as 2 hours return, but we were having so much fun exploring it took us 3 hours. AND we got a huge surprise at the end as we walked to the car, sunning itself in the bushes right near the carpark was a snake!

We are pleased to report the cache is dry and back at GZ.

TFTC Cheers Quilter

16-Jan-11
Found this one after a while although it was not were it was described. We were at the point of giving up and I decided to go to the toilet near by and there it was... on the sink.... someone had picked it up and moved it. The cache was also a bit wet, inside and out. I hope it wasn't toilet water. I swallowed my pride and then moved it back to where I thought it was meant to be. I have contacted the Hider and hopefully should be back up and dry ASAP.

11-Jan-11

Pleasant day for a walk and, being the school holidays, numerous families had the same idea. Once near GZ, a quick find because the covering material had slipped off. Hopefully now hidden a little better. TFTC

09-May-10
A great walk over the wetlands. Surprised to find that the island is not a silt pile, but a genuine island. Had to be careful due to the mugglers on an overcast Sunday afternoon. Definitely worth the walk. TNLNSL TFTC

A great walk. The weather was overcast and a little drizzly, but that actually lent a rather photogenic atmosphere to the place. We took plenty of pics.
Thanks for bringing us here, SiriusTas. Well worth doing.

Had a lot of trouble getting satellites with GPS which was surprising. Nice to have a flat walk after some of the hills we have struggled up to retrieve caches. Cache was a bit exposed so tried to hide a bit better.

Have replaced cache back in its original spot...so all ok.

30-Jan-09
I'm appalled how some one could inadvertently remove the well hidden cache and place it next to the cache near the gate. I'll try and rectify in the near future. Sorry madchilli....but guess the finds don't come easier..lol.

29-Jan-09
2 for 1, not sure why this cache is where it is but hopefully some one will take it back out to the island soon, the gates where locked when I was there TFTC

17-Jan-09
Yes - Coords are off by over 1.6km. Ok, so there seems to be some confusion here. For some reason, "Tamar Island Wetlands" - GA0923 has been placed at at coordinates for "WETLANDS" - GC1K03K. Anyway - we found "WETLANDS" first on the way to this one; got to the top of the hill - found the perfect geo-hiding spot, even found a brand new HB pencil right at the GZ, but no cache. So we checked the logs - all the while having a great day browsing the island and following the information sheet given to us by the friendly staff at the wetlands centre. In the logs we quickly uncovered a rather confusing "but we found it at S ... E...". Confusing because it took us back to the gate, yes, the location of the *other* cache. We left the two caches together, at the coords for "WETLANDS" - GC1K03K, so perhaps the next cacher could return this one back to its original coords (on the island). Regardless of this great confusion, we had a wonderful day, and learned heaps about the Tamar Estuary and it's wildlife. TNLNSL. TFTC. Thanks GeoKid#2 for finding the 2nd cache at the 1st location.

20-Dec-08
Found this one easily on a balmy summer evening. TFTC

Hmm, not sure but it may have been moved. I found this one at coordinates S 41° 23.456 E 147° 04.420 (as I was looking for the new one placed by Flange 1 & Tribe. I found this one first! They are both VERY close to each other.

28-Sep-08
Our family went to check location and change the container. We placed it back where we found it and Coordinates are fine. We used the same cover as the Kids had found on the school excursion and while out of sight it is pretty obvious to a Geocachers eye.
B2.

26-Sep-08
Found by accident by Grade 5 /6 kids from Trevallyn Primary school, 2 of which are our children. They read the card, told thier teacher and nd left the cache. The container was reported to be damaged. and the kids may have swapped a few things.

08-Jun-08
Took the walk out to this cache location today on what was a beautiful ‘late autumn’ ‘early winters’ day. Have been out here a few years back in search of another cache that use to be on this Island. Thanks Sirius for bringing me back to this very peaceful, tranquil setting.
TNLNSL Surprised)

25-May-08
Got it! Great walk, lots of interesting stuff to look at, a very relaxing way to spend some time on a Sunday afternoon.

Took the air-freshener, left the dice, signed the log.

TFTC!!

18-Apr-08
The sound of the wind rustling through the reeds made the walk out to this cache special. I have never seen so many black swans in one place before. Amazed at the amount of birdlife, it is not often that I go somewhere without four noisy children hence the only wild life we see is either deaf or dead.
Thanks Sirius for this peaceful cache. TNLNSL.

15-Mar-08
Very serene today - not a soul about.
No noise apart from bird calls.
Very pleasant - thanks Sirius.

12-Jan-08
We had a great time doing this cache.

It was a nice evening, so we walked over to the island and ate our homemade Siamese rolls on top of the hill (only 25m from the cache)

Found the cache after enjoying our feast. A nice hide...should last a while where it is.

Thanks for the great cache!

02-Dec-07
great day for a walk, not too hot,
found the cache easily although there were quite a few muggles enjoying the day on the island as well,
picked a bad time as the tide was as low as it can get, T nothing L smiley badge, TFTC,
Thoroughly enjoyed the walk,

14-Nov-07
1935 Oh, well...
I think I may have walked past 3daygrowth on my return to the cachemobile.
Found without my GPSr but with a little help from headquarters.
TNLN. The views are great and it was starting to cool off as I reached GZ which made it more comfortable for caching after having to work and drive in the sun today.
Thanks siriusTas.
