Description

Cache is magnetic.

The cache location will take you to a purpose built object constructed some 40 years ago to actually avoid bush fires or infernos from developing but is now rarely used.

From this vantage point sweeping views are to be had...as you would expect...as far south as Cradle Mt. and Barns Bluff.

Access is via Filleuls Road off the Castra to Loongana Rd. then first turn left which will take you to a locked boom gate. From here it's around 1.5km return walk up a gravel road.

As always..be careful and replace cache carefully.

Enjoy!

Today with the weather not very nice we decided to go for a drive up through kindred to towards the castra falls and then come back down through top gawler road. in total we attempted 10 caches in total with 9 finds and 1 did not find.
this was our fifth cache for the day, we pulled up close to ground zero and a quick find was made we resorted to signing the log in the ute because the rain was pouring down at this point and we didn't wanna get the contents saturated. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Wow - Cache has done really well to survive considering the removal of parts of this structure.

Actually, I was at a loss why the structure is not used anymore. Seems to have a great overview of the surrounding area

Found today after tackling the Castra Falls track. Haven't been up here for a few years now. It is sad that there have been some grubs vandalising the fire tower. On my last visit up here, I took my boy to the top of the tower and we had some awesome views around. Now the ladder has been removed. So the only benefit to our visit today was I was able to drive right up to the tower. Anyway the view from ground level is still pretty good. Found easily enough, even though I had to be a monkey. A bit of a slog up the hill on quite a warm afternoon but glad we didn't drive past the gate as there was a tree down across the track half way up. The fire tower is looking a bit sad, vandals seem to have had a field day here. The ladder has been ripped down which made accessing the cache a little difficult but mr sharnie's tribe wasn't going to let it beat him. Shame we couldn't see the views from the top of the tower but what we could see was lovely. Over 4 years since the last find which gives us a scavenge for the Summer Scavenger Series, woohoo! TFTC

A steady climb to the top on a drizzly overcast day. Easy find TFTC

Great walk in the rain today as this is the best time to be in the bush.Must be 20 years or more since i have been here.No views had today as there was a thick fog around but this gave it an eerie feel at gz making it just as enjoyable. Thanks for bringing me back here sirius Clapping

Take two. Last time the gate was locked and we decided to leave it for another day.
Another day has arrived and this time I walked up the track and finally reached GZ.
Took me a while to get there and then find the cache. Whilst logging, the pencil broke. Found a pen in my bag and completed the log. Now the pencil - didn't have a knife or sharpener but that concrete does a good job.
Just in time to watch the sunset off in the west and then to had back to the van.
TNLN, thanks sirius for the cache

A steady walk up the road leads to great views of all the surrounding mountains and out to the coast. Easy find. Thanks Sirius

I can't believe you can climb to the top this tower (well, almost), with just one pity warning sign. Reading all the other logs talking about wind, rain and snow I felt quite privileged to be enjoying the view on a still, clear, warm day!
Thought I'd lost the cache in the bracken below when I went to replace it, but turns out I just liked it so much I'd put it in my bag and was going to take it with me. Thanks sirius Tas.

Luckily fferalz remembered the way, 'cause I'd written down everything about this except the coords (duh!) Very windy up on the tower, but excellent panoramic views, complete with rainbow.

13-Jul-09
short stroll uphill (puff puff) to a great view and quick find, then all down hill from there.

Thanks for a good hide; reccomended by the Carroleyres to finish up our day on Black Bluff this did not disappoint. This was a special walk in the light of a full moon - highly reccomended for adding a little magic to a straight forward cache. Amazing how adventurous Dippy's chocolate slice makes one!

Mrs FF seemed to be seeking further adventure after our Black Bluff day out so we made this little side trip on our way back. It was quite amazing to see the surrounding mountains quite well lit by the full moon. It also enabled me to reach the 800 cache milestone on our fantastic Black Beauty day! So thanks for that Mrs FF, and Sirius for placing the cache. We then continued on, somehow managing to enter Ulverstone by a completely different road than what we left on, even though we were sure we went the same way back!

A wonderful walk with magnificent views. Enjoyed by all. Thanks Sirius for a top cache and CEyres for inviting us along

Sirius recommended this cache to the C.Eyrettes last June at the Annual Traditional event and said we should visit this place before the trees grow too high. We have and we too would truly recommend this cache to others because of its commanding views of the Black Bluff, Mt Roland, Dial Ranges and the Ulverstone coastline.
The CEyres and Tasowls joined forces and walked up the road to the tower, admired the view, signed the cache, conferred with the map, checked out next weeks trip and walked back down the the hill to the cars. We had a relatively clear to be able to see as far as the horizon.
The cache is surprisingly empty given the ease of access and the impressiveness of the view.
Thanks Sirius for yet another great cache.

had this one on the agenda fo awhile and as it was a reasonably clear day decided this was the time to do it. Its a dececent climb on a good track but worth the trek as the views are great. Usual good hide . Thanks Sirius

I saw that Black Bluff had a LOT of snow on it this weekend, and thought I'd go for a drive today to get a closer look. Then I realised that there was a cache that would have a perfect view of the Bluff which I hadn't found yet. What I didn't realise was that the view from this cache has a great view of Black Bluff, Roland/Claude/VanDyke, Western Bluff, Barn Bluff, and a little bit of Cradle.

Great cache Mr. Sirius!

Thanks.!

Found in the company of friends on a wet Anzac Day with no view! Will have to come up here again to see the view. TNLN Thanks, Sirius.

Just the workout I needed early on Sunday after a big Saturday night.
Splendid views and FTF was a bonus.
Shame I forgot my camera.
Many thanks Sirius.
