Out caching with ziggiau raiding Rookwood and Homebush for States of the Nation points. This was find 10 of 11 for the day.
After a pleasant walk through the mangroves we arrived at GZ. After some searching it was ziggiau that spotted cache and braved the webs to retrieve it. Nice to find this piece of history. We took the time to read the original log before returning the cache.
Thanks for the cache The Spindoctors
GCA find #44

11-Jan-18
Not my first time walking along this boardwalk, but first time I thought to look for the GCA cache here. Amazing to find Spindoc Bob’s first GCA cache. Nice and quite in these parts today despite the school holidays. Like No_Tomorrow, I braved the spider webs and went in for the grab. It’s not everyday you come across an old logbook that still has a few stories to read in it. I discovered the entry from The Wandering Wilkos noted that they had left a measuring tape as swag, and nearly ten years on, its still in there! A big tick for quality caches.

This was a pleasant walk. At first it stank like sewage as I came in from the Business area side, but then it got better. I enjoyed watching the crabs come out and the water come in. Found the information board with the development of the mangrove park.

Pencils! Yes! And crayons!

When I found the cache instead of just pencils I was afraid to put my hand through the spider's webs so I went and got one of the pencils that was nearly falling in the mud/water and used it to clear the webs and quite in the cache.

So was this Spindoc Bob's first cache? And it's in a no-go zone now? Flag is still going.
Loved it. Smile

I was working a ranger shift in the park today but there weren't many people about because it was cold, so I decided to take a walk down through the mangroves - I haven't been in there for ages. Its great then there is a high tide and the pontoons are floating, but the tide was low today so I was able to explore. Couldn't get much closer than 5-10m on the GPS so I just had to trust my instinct. I found the pens that others had mentioned so I knew I was roughly in the right area, & extended my search out, and soon had CIH. Cache in good condition - everything nice and dry. Thanks for the little detour from working.

#GA1215 - 14:45; I identified this cache as a possibility to help out the clan for the Summer Scavenger Series, so after dropping the geohoney off for some retail therapy, made my way over after grabbing another cache a bit further up the road. In my usual inimitable style, I parked much further way than I needed to and then encountered a road block due to bridge works along trail I had taken. After overcoming these minor obstacles, I eventually found myself at GZ and a short search yielded a positive result. Log signed, I managed the shorter route back to the geomobile. An interesting area and well worth the visit. TFTC The Spindoctors Very HappyClan Cerberus

It was damp and dark here this afternoon, but I'd been looking forward to this one, placed by an absent friend all those years ago. A bonus to read his own log on the opening page too. I looked where the GPS had landed and found lots of dropped pencils and pens that must have fallen through the cracks. A mystery in itself. Working my way back, on the 4th attempt I reached in and struck gold. The cache is good and although it's in what's now a "warning area", it's inconceivable that it could cause any damage here. Thanks The Spindoctors.

Found with geodad alnic and geobrother Lachnic.

22-May-16
Took a couple of attempts to get this one today. It was just a matter of looking in the right spot...and geoson lachnic looked in the right spot. The log is a bit damp. It could use an hour in the sun, (should anyone want to do tat in order to keep this cache going). This boardwalk is fantastic.

easy find and a nice walk!

I really do like board walks through mangroves and wetlands. This one is quiet, peaceful and a good place to watch for bird life. Good thing it was deserted as it took me ages to find the cache. I must have looked right at it a couple of times before actually realising it was there. Weirdly I found a lot of pens while I was looking too. Without exaggeration there was at least 40 of them under the board-walk in various places. Very odd...

28-Jul-15
went for a walk after work to find this cache got to the spot and started to have a search but couldn't find anything where my GPSr said at the beginning, then it changed to 5 metres away a few more spots around there and found the cache at the second one. Signed the log but had to walk away until a jogger went past. Then replaced.

I love these boardwalks through mangroves. I have a cache on one near Lane Cove. It was completely deserted so I did not feel restrained in searching - I had however failed to spot a very stealthy bird-watching elderly lady - who gave me a rather odd look as she walked past! Great cache. SL TNLN TFTC

nice interesting cache no swop's but interesting cache all the same.

Was down this way this evening and had time to grab a quick cache. Always nice to do an informative Spindoctors number. Lovely walk through the mangroves. With no one about I leisurely looked at all the hint objects, finding plenty of writing sticks in the mud, before eventually locating the cache. All in good order. Thanks Spindoctors.

Nice to see the work to reclaim this area.

Thanks for the cache

Up to Sydney for some family duties and we found ouselves with some time to kill so headed off for a couple of caches.

A quick find here today.

Thanks for the cache.

It was good to get out at dawn after work & go for a walk Very Happy in this part of the Olympic park. Coming here at this time of the morning, it is very peaceful & quiet Razz in the low light before the sun has risen. When I started looking for the cache I realised what I left in the car that I should have with me Embarassed , a torch, working nights you get used to dealing with low light so with a bit of luck Pray (or wait for another 15 minutes for more morning light) I found a nicely hidden cache in a very peaceful part of the park. A big thanks for showing this part of the park to me. TFTC / TFTH / SL

06-Apr-12
Found it while riding on the scooters with geodad. Was here on an excersion on with my class a few days ago and didn't even know that there was a cache about 5 metres away from me! Found about 20 pencils probably left from school groups because we sat right there. So many muggles walking by as we were trying to sign the log. Eventually they all left except 1 big family, but they were far enough to not notice what we were doing. We signed the log as quick as possible and put in a swap but took nothing. TFTC!!!

Found while attend Zal's fabulous "ZEAMMAFF Event!" at Concord West, NSW. This once was only a short walk away, down an interesting boardwalk.

At first I had some difficulties in putting my hands on the container, but it was easy in the end. The contents were OK, but very slightly damp. Wish I had had some way of drying things out.

TNLNSL.

Many thanks to The Spindoctors!

14-Dec-11
The dropped pencils are some school groups that come to study the mangroves. I don't believe it's geocachers, unless they're really clumsy.

13-Dec-11
I came here to fill in a calendar day and saw that this GCA cache was a nice short walk away. Glad I did it. First time along this boardwalk, so I see the reason for putting this here Spindoctors Clapping I walked along listening to the sounds of the 'swamp' or mangroves if you will. Then at GZ, I started searching, but checked the hint for more info. Turns out it was about 5m off on my GPSr. Also, funny thing, on searching, I found about 8 pens and pencils under the boardwalk, obviously dropped by previouos cachers. Unfortunately out of reach with the human hand. Thanx for a nice little journey and a nice (if a little damp) cache. TFTC. Very Happy

I love coming to this boardwalk, it's great to get in amongst the mangroves. Thanks for putting a cache here.

Another cache that hasn't been found for a while. Slso found three pens in the vicinity.A really lovely spot. TFTC

30-Jul-11
Dropped by today with iZac. The cache was happily sitting there. Amazing to think I hid this before he was born. We sat for a while and had a break, then looked close up at the mangroves. We both enjoyed the special forest.

G'Day,

It's been over 90 days since the cache was disabled, so we are archiving it to remove it from the cache lists.

The owner can re-activate it once maintained by placing an Unarchived log on the cache

13-Apr-11
Will need to investigate in the next few days.

11-Apr-11
access to the board walk area has been fenced off. CO might wanna check on this.

06-Mar-11
Heya! Thanks for the cache! I was wondering how it could possibly be hidden on such a public boardwalk but great cache - nice easy find! Thanks again! Surprised

07-Feb-11
Avoided the school kid muggles to get this one. Left 10 pence

13-Jan-11
Cache number 6 for today. This was quite a surprise, I would never have ventured on the board walk if not for this cache, but it was a lovely walk along there and very interesting. Found GZ without any trouble, since there was no Muggles around I was able to search for the cache in peace. Cache found in good condition and quite dry.
Left Olympic Pin and signature Pathtag.
Thank you very much for the adventure, loved it!

13-Oct-10
A lovely place to wander in the morning while visiting Olympic Park for work. The coordinates had me off a bit to start with; however I used the clue and found in one of the easy to grab places!

Signed Log - Thanks Spindoctors for a nice hide.

Great spot for a cache, I had to look everywhere a few times before I finally spotted the cache. The boardwalk through here is impressive.

Thanks.

15-Jul-10
As we were walking to the cache I was wondering how it could be hidden and easily retrieved along theis busy boardwalk. Well hidden!

TNLNSL. TFTC and the lesson on magroves, I passed it on to the boys!?!

We, like the Croydon Crew, were tipped off to this cache from a card in "Casuarina Point" cache. We first found lots of pencils and pens before we spied the cache. The hint would have sped up the process I imagine but we found it anyway. Great spot to enjoy the natural environment. The Olympics did a wonderful thing to get this area back to such a usable place again.
TFTC.

Having just said Goodbye to Spindoc after a chance encounter in SOP chasing some GCA caches there I thought it appropriate to come nextdoor and have a crack at his 1st GCA hide. I had a fair idea where it would be having grown up riding bikes around here (although please note bikes must be WALKED along the approach to this cache). I remember as a student sitting in this outdoor classroom that is GZ and giggled at the pletiful supply of pencils that have fallen through the cracks... you'll see what I mean, this cache will never run out!

Took a few manouvers but spied it eventually and did the duties before heading off to my only GC cache for the day up the path a bit.

Cheers Darren!

02-Apr-10
I was tipped off about this cache by a thoughtful card left in the nearby 'Casuarina Point' cache. The lad & I headed by via the boardwalk and had a look for this one. After I had pulled up the GCA website on the iPhone and looked at the photos, all became clear and we honed our search area. We found it a couple minutes later (those pens were strange?!). Took a glowstick for jnr CC, and left the cache card in here. Perhaps if a future cacher visits here first, they can relocate this 'Stick in the Mud' card to a nearby GC cache to 'spread the word' once more!

TFTC!

Found 16:45 a very pleasant walk after doing Casurina Point Cache. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the mangroves and this boardwalk. We need to explore this area fully. Thanks for bringing us here. We will be back.

Great cache. Spent more time getting pens than it took to find the cache.

02-Feb-10
Had a couple of attempts at this one before today armed only with the co-ordinates. Came today with the picture in hand and having read the clues. Still had to poke around for a while and thought it was not there.

Finally put the glasses on and noticed something standing out from the rest of the structure. We got it.

27-Dec-09
No luck last time I searched, came back with help and this time Anna's eagle eyes spotted it where I had just looked. She was better at finding them than I was today by 3 to 2. Easily retrieved, signed the log and replaced.

What we can't work out is why all the black floating things are covered in pens and pencils. Do schoolkids come here on excursions and deliberately lose their pens so they can't do any homework or something? Thanks Spindoctors.

10-Dec-09
I love the smell of mangroves in the evenings! On another Moving Cache Race trek and thought it was about time I took a walk through here to find the cache. Top hiding spot spindoc! Thanks for the trip

What a great park! Thanks for taking us there.

Cheers,

A pleasant walk today saw me in the vicinity of this cache.
It has been in my todo list for the last year so decided to tackle this and others in the area while I was here.
Well done Spindoc for the education value as well as a great cache

Nice hide and nice spot, few muggles on a rainy day, took small pot, left glow stick and bubbles. TFTC

25-Feb-09
We found a cache left by an earlier geocacher.

22-Feb-09
Made another attempt with no success. Mozzies very active. Will bring torch and bug spray on next attempt.

21-Feb-09
Dropped by geocache today and it was there. Have taken photos to assist future finders. Retrieved the plastic bag from the other side of the pontoon (five metres away) and placed it's contents in the geocache. Also collected some rubbish for the bin.

29-Jan-09
I will check this cache as I suspect it hasn't been found and still exists. There are school groups that visit and occasionally leave pencils and other objects behind.

26-Jan-09
Thanks for leaving the bag & temporary log. Was able to find & sign it. Didn't leave any swaps. My 3 yo loved finding this one - nice exploration of the boadwalks.

26-Jan-09
Seems I didn't find it after all. Will try again today. Great area and well worth a visit.

Original log:
"Cache gone or not accessible at site. There are heaps of pens and a map I can't reach (blown out of reach under ...)

I created a new cache at site leaving two ceramic objects I made and a very rough log, in a plastic bag. (Please reuse bag and seal to prevent it getting wet)

Would be good if someone could place new log in cache AND take a ziplock bag for cache items.

Nice hiding spot away from most people.

Used a TomTom XL to find it (It has a satellite screen with co-ords and can drag maps when using your nail or stylus, e.g. like pen or key)"

Even on a lovely sunny winter's day with veritable hordes afoot and abike throughout the park this area was very peaceful. We loved this mangrove area - it felt a primeval world away from the throngs. We quickly located possibly the biggest cache in the park - good to see something non-magnetic. We made no swaps today. Great spot!

15-Jun-08
The full contingent of Spindoctors (Dr Bob, Supernay and iZac), ventured into the mangroves to see if the cache was still there.

Like Richary, I found a pen. But unlike Richary, iZac found the cache still in place.

07-Jun-08
Found the spot, and the large black floaty things. Found a pen on one of them and a pencil on another. But no sign of a cache. Hopefully the recent king tides didn't claim it!

02-May-08
Catching up on finding caches in the area and just had to find this one. After a bit of a search I found the cache. Had a bit of a scare when a group of people carrying alot of food came walking down the board walk. I thought for a moment that they were going to setup for lunch. Luckily they kept going and I could return the cache without having to harm any muggles.

Left a carabeener keyring. TFTH Cheers, Rikki.

This is a great Cache. We loved speeding along the board walk on the bikes at break neck pace. A smart hide and sure to be safe from Muggles, which the rain had kept at bay. Top spot and thanks for taking us there

Took: Candle and the GC
Left: Tape Measure and a Snake

Great spot for a cache. It took some searching as the GPS reception under wet trees wasn't so great. I really love these boardwalks and this is a great one. Unfortunately I didn't realise his was a GCA cache and left a geocoin. Hopefully this will be picked up shortly.

07-Mar-08
Nice boardwalk through the mangroves towards GZ, and then I had to wait for some students to move on before claiming the cache. TFTC.

18-Feb-08
Had walked through here a number of times and yes there is only one type of place it could be - just multiple options. Hada quiet chuckle at the number of pens and pencils dropped here. Lovely walk. TNLNSL. TFTC J&J

29-Jan-08
After clearing most of the caches within striking distance of work during 2007 it was nice to return from leave and find a few more close by. Nothing like a nice local lunchtime cache to allow for a diversion from the daily drudgery.

Headed out for this one at lunchtime and the dappled shade from the mangroves provided enough relief from the heat to make it a very pleasant stroll out to GZ indeed.

As stated previously there is no need to head into the mud to get this one, and after checking a couple of likely locations the well hidden cache was quickly in hand.

A great cache in a spot I hadn't discovered in this park before. Very nice.

Thanks Spindoc

Cache #5 @ 4:15pm

Last cache for the day and fantastic cache to finish off on.

I get the feeling that when this walkway was designed they were only allowed to use a Set Square and a Ruler?

Nevertheless i arrived at GZ just as the rain was starting with the thunder and lighting all around it rejuvenated my caching drive and i had the cache quickly in my hand in no time.

A Great Location, Nice walk and good hide.

Easily the best cache find of the day.

Thanks Spindoc Bob, look forward to finding many more like this in 2008 and more years to come.

13-Jan-08
Found GZ easily enough but after a lot of poking around with sticks in holes in trees couldn't find it.

10-Jan-08
An easy find though I know from walking here many times that during school times the place is infested with muggles kids.

31-Dec-07
Well done Tronador.

Just a note to all future finders, you don't need to step off the boardwalk into the mud to get this cache.

30-Dec-07
Woo hoo a FTF. Don't get too many of these. This is so close to home. I've been here many times before both on foot and by bike. It's really peaceful early in the morning before all the muggles arrive.
Great hide.
Figured out the clue as I was walking along as I approached GZ my GPS was out by about 12 m initially probably because of the canopy. It had me wading through the mangroves, which I refused to do.
After ignoring the GPS, I found the cache in the only spot it had to be. Love the hide, future retrieval will be interesting to watch.
No swaps. Thanks Spindoc Bob for another quality cache.
