Description

An historic bridge steeped in character and style.

They dont build them like this anymore mores the pity.  You should have a look around while you are here.

One that you may not have taken any notice of if not for the cache.

WARNING  This place is not suitable for kids or animals to be out of the vehicle while you find the cache as the traffic comes quite close due to the hedges close to the road.

The cache is not hard to find but keep your eyes out for traffic.

05-Jan-21

It was a nice day for a drive so I decided to look for caches in the Evandale, Perth and Longford areas. This road was very busy but I did manage to get the cache. It was nice to see the workmanship in this bridge close up. Cache and contents were in good condition. Very Happy

22-Jun-20
out and about with Lil Rafa caching for the new Battleship GCA game, this was on the list to find this weekend. TFTC TNLN lots of hiding places you have to scout around with the coords.

Thanks for the cache Robtas.
A quick find on the return trip to Hobart after a weekend in Launceston with RLD4963. Have stopped and found the GC cache nearby, but hadn't grabbed this one before. This bridge is definitely worth stopping and having a closer look at , but, Wow, this road is as busy as the adjacent highway. Had to breathe in as a number or large trucks rolled by in both directions. Added our names to the log and then headed home after another great weekend caching.

17-Mar-19
Dear gosh it is busy here! Wonder how dodgy we looked crouched down behind a sign lol

07-Nov-18
Busy place, but cache and log are good. TFTC robtas.

05-Aug-18
I was out here recently looking for another cache and didn't realise that there was a GCA one here as well and with a year since it had been found, I wasn't hopeful but it was still there and in good shape.

18-Jul-17
We were in Launceston for a fun pirate event and family duties and managed to grab a few caches as well. This was one we found on the trip. TFTC

16-Jul-17
Hello Robtas thanks for the cache

EeePees, LilRaffa and my self had left Hobart early this morning to go to Launceston to go to the "Th' lost loot o' Mary Hyde" event. After the very well attended event we had a leisurely drive home looking for caches as we went.

On our back to Hobart we stopped to find this cache there was a bit of confusion on which cache it was that we were looking for and the others were confused when I headed off across the bridge.

Found at 1212

Hi robtas, found this with AlbyDangles while we were out on a grand day out with Lil Rafa too.
We had a very early morning start down south, made our way up the icy highway to attend the "Th' lost loot o' Mary Hyde" event at Trevallyn Tailrace Park, for some piratey fun and cacher catch-up.
On the way home we stopped to grab various caches, this being one. Nice bridge.
Grabbed between traffic. THANKS for it.

22-Sep-16
Love these historic convict built bridges. Thanks for placing a cache here robtas.

02-Apr-16
you are right Robtas they don't build them like this anymore, the craftsmanship! shame. Easy find, took nothing, left badge, signed log. able to secure the cache between traffic. good hide and lovely spot TFTC

#GA881 - 09:15; Back in Tassie on family business, so the opportunity to collect a few more of the local caches was too good to pass up. I had made my first find of the morning run and continued on my way to this one. It was familiar territory, having collected a cache and a moveable on the other side of the creek from this cache. A quick find and sign, but had to wait for traffic to settle down before I could return the cache to its hide. TFTC robtas Very HappyClan Cerberus

21-Feb-16
Headed out early for a cache day out and picked up a few in busy areas first. Love finding good sized caches I can leave scouts behind in. tftc

16-Feb-16
Still plenty of traffic on this road even of an evening. Luckily it's a quick and easy find
Love this old bridge.

Second of the bridges in the area, and this one required a bit more care when crossing the road. However, once there, the cache was soon in hand and the log signed. Thanks for another one RobTas....

After a busy days caching in the North myself and Goose of Gooseandegg spotted this one sort of on the way home so had to stop after doing the GC cache at the other end and this was an easy find due to its size.

We soon added our names to the log book before moving on in the dwindling light.

19-Dec-15
We did Bridge #1 nearly 2 years ago but never did this one. 6 months ago we found the GC cache nearly but still didn't look for this one. After a long day caching around Launceston we stopped here on our way back south to fix the situation! A nice size and well stocked cache that SSR found easily as I admired the repaired stonework. TFTC

16-Oct-15
Being from Perth WA we decided today's caching would be aimed at us visiting Perth TAS today!

Managed to swing past this cache on our drive around.

Having just found Bridge #1 it would be rude to drive past it's brother without attempting the find - despite the fact that we have done so many many times in the past, & notwithstanding the rather busier environment. We felt it prudent to dredge out that vital bit of caching gear the hi-vis vest for this one as we'd parked on the other end. Despite recently funding some lovely nighttime lighting, no funds could be spent on providing a footpath for crazy cachers! We certainly felt highly visible, so much so that one driver actually slowed down to ask if everything was OK! The find thankfully was quick - in fact pretty unmissable once you can actually get yourself there. All is good inside the cache. Thanks for testing out our "cringe guage" Robtas! We survived the ordeal.

06-Sep-15
Cache in good order - funny that it lives at the other end of the bridge where we placed our very first cache!

05-Jul-15
Cached in Launceston with Grandaughter Holly, in the rain. No 6 of 17 for the day. Qucik easy find

03-Jul-15
Busy road, area has been recently had tree trimming and a lot of the area was covered in rubbish. Will check on a less busy day

10-Feb-15
Busy bridge with great history. Cautiously retrieved between passing traffic, thanks..!!

03-Feb-15
On the way to school pickup. This is a very busy road at this time of day. Great bridge.

20-Dec-14
Great spot visually, a tad challenging for safe access. Luckily I picked a quiet time but the noise of speeding traffic in close proximity is a little disconcerting. TFTC

04-May-14
Don't why I've never logged this one before, as this is one of my favourite spots for hiding larger moveables. Situation corrected! Very Happy

22-Mar-14
A quick find with the aid of the hint. Can't believe it's been so long since the last find, although there was one find that hasn't been logged online, still 11 months since that one though. TFTC

18-Mar-13
I've been driving past here twice a day most days of the week for the past 6 months, Tonight I finally had the opportunity to stop and grab this cache. I took the opportunity to admire the bridge while I worked out if I needed to cross the road or not.

After exhausting all the likely spots on one side, I faced up to the fact that I would have to dodge the fast moving traffic to search the other side. Once across safely I soon found the cache and signed the log. Thanks for the cache.

01-Jan-13
Found.

22-Sep-12
Quick find this time after a DNF here years ago whilst the cache was missing.

08-Jul-12
found on the way home from Evendale T.F.T.C

08-Jul-12
Love these old bridges, they do not make 'em like this any more Clapping , which is a pity. TNSL TFTC

24-Jun-12
If you are the next person going for this cache I suggest you bring your pruners as there are a couple of small but nasty hawthorn branches which grab at you as you reach for this cache. The traffic can be tricky too but at GZ you can hug into the end of the bridge and keep clear - definitely not safe for kids as Robtas says. Fabulous bridge but best photographed from the other end where you can get down and see the sides.

11-Jun-12
Lots of traffic rushing back to Launceston after the long weekend, but we were not deterred. Great bridge! TNLN. Thanks for organising the cache.

30-Apr-12
Was on my way back to Hobart from the Quilt and Craft Fair in Lonny so thought I'd mkae the most of the opportunity while passing by. I'd looked for this once before (feels like years ago) but just trawled through the logs and couldn't find the DNF, so can't have logged it - I seem to remember that it was likely missing at the time. The cache has had a bit of a chequered history but it's an interesting location for one and certainly worth pausing here for a look. Found myself caught in the thick of the footy traffic heading back to Hobart so was a long wait till I could pull out to head off again. Thanks robtas.

12-Mar-12
Other than the risk of having a passing car slice of my rear end, I didn't have any trouble finding the cache this time. Glad to have this one off the "to do" list.

30-Dec-11
We went looking for leap frogs, not this cache -which we hadn't even realised was there! We stopped at the leap frog coordinates and spied a cache type container - which turned out to be a cache!! A little further searching also revealed the two leap frogs we had been hunting. TNLNSL

16-Dec-11
This was an easy find except for the constant buzzing traffic.Watch your arse or it will be cut off, lol. TFTC

04-Nov-11
Found on way out of town, battled with traffic. Small swap.

27-Mar-11
Walked a bit too far to start with but nice easy find after reading the hint again. TFTC

20-Mar-11
A nice old bridge. Parked on the opposite side to where gz was and made the walk under the bridge. Got to gz, but could not work out where cache was. Checked the hint and then it revealed itself. Nice big cache. SL. TNLN and returned. Walked back across the bridge marvelling at this old almost forgoten relic Very Happy TFTC

18-Feb-11
Spotted this one from highway side thinking that would be the safest approach but eventually had to do battle with the traffic on the side road. Creative bridge topping, very spiky. Took nothing, Left spare pen

18-Feb-11
Comments are right about traffic, the road kill in the area is a testament to that, thought that I would come out of this one wearing a crown of thorns.Left convict arrow keychain, took Bilby or something like that.

17-Feb-11
Felt rather exposed looking for this one. found it quickly and scurried away before we became road kill. TNLN TFTC

28-Jan-11
Quilter and Netballer retrieved this one. It required the used of the pokie stick to carefully nudge and wiggle and pull. When replaced the cache fell back down into the same place. Warning to future finders. There are very nasty thorns near this cache. Nasty prickly green thorns on the bushes, as well as nastier, harder dried thorns that can penetrate shoes, as Netballer found out. Sad TFTC Quilter

22-Jan-11
Found fairly quickly on second visit tftc and thanks for the maintenance. Tnln.

16-Jan-11
DancingDancing replaced again, this time a larger cache in a better spot. Still same co-ords. DancingDancing

12-Jan-11
second time muggled time to go

09-Jan-11
As per the previous logs, we also couldn't find the cache. All we found were numerous smelly dead animals, rubbish and the most aggressive grass seeds imaginable.

17-Sep-10
Well, looked around GZ and wondered what the smell was

I found the answer - a dead possum - lying in the most likely place for the cache. I think it was a possum, all that was not decomposed was a tail!!

Anyway left GZ quickly

18-Jul-10
What a beautiful bridge! I enjoyed my exploration of the bridge and really have to wonder why there is not some infromation posted somewhere. Plenty of landscaping work has occurred but the hawthorn bushes are still there. I couldn't find the cache but was happy to visit the GZ anyway.

30-May-10
A quick pickup on my way to the airport. We were lucky with the traffic so managed to find the cache without too much delay. TFTC

28-May-10
We returned today to see the completed repairs to the bridge and the rather extensive cleanup to the vegetation. Whilst nearly all the blackberries had been removed, the hawthorn hedges were still there and, as always, rather prickly. Without a muggle in sight, we were able to search on this visit and quickly located the cache. Thankfully, the cache survived the cleanup. TFTC

05-May-10
We went to look for this cache today but had to abort our attempt because a tradesman was completing maintenance on the bridge (reaffixing stones which had become dislodged) at GZ (by our GPS). With camera in hand, we took some photos and struck up a conversation. The worker had started an extensive cleanup of the area and told us that the area was to undergo further improvements, including the removal of trees and some hedges. We will return at a later time to look for the cache but, in the meantime, we hope the cache is not a casualty of the cleanup.

20-Apr-10
Nasty place to be with traffic, felt quite exposed when looking close to GZ. Cache also a bit difficult to reach with growth of blackberries and bushes. Only a very small log with little space left. TFTC

26-Mar-10
Got and logged this one at 1525hrs. Boy!!! Don't the traffic wizz passed this spot!!! Had one car toot the horn. Wondered if it was a fellow geocacher? Great Bridge. Similar to Spikey on the East Coast. TFTC and cheers OldSaint.

25-Jan-10
Found it at 10:45. Thanks. Is this a second spiky bridge in Tasmania? First is in the East coast.

22-Jan-10
A quick easy find this time. Guess it wasn't there last time as we looked in the exact spot. Thanks for replacing it.

09-Jan-10
Done deal
finally got this one after it's return
thnx rob

SL

07-Jan-10
Tried to find this on previous occasions without luck.Have noted recent finds. Gave it another go and there it was. Thanks Robtas

30-Dec-09
Decided that if Cheesy could find this one then so could we!! Stopped off with son and his girlfriend in tow after a lovely meal at the Clarendon Arms Hotel at Evandale. Wouldn't you know it...the muggle girlfriend found it. TFTC

27-Dec-09
Yay! After how many million tries at this one, I finally made it while there was a cache here! Nice to have this one done! Thanks RobTas

26-Dec-09
Finally I have conquered my nemesis cache. I have been trying for this cache for over 12 months and I am glad to say it is now off my unfound list. Thanks for the cache Robtas.

26-Dec-09
Searched through the hawthorn prickles but couldn't find the cache. There's something dead in them thar bushes though!!

18-Dec-09
Replaced it today

15-Dec-09
needs checking

14-Dec-09
Might be time to check on this one...

13-Dec-09
Searched high and low, but couldn't find the cache. I did find a mobile phone on one side of the road and the appropriate battery on the opposite side...

02-May-09
Spent a lot of time on this one - unsuccessfully!!! Can see why people are not keen to return. Had one car bip its horn at us and we were as far off the road as you could get.

20-Apr-09
After a call from Flange yesterday I stopped on my way past to check this cache out and it isnt in the spot where I last found it and a quick search didnt reveal anything, needs checking or archiving

18-Apr-09
NO go here even had the last to find on the ph still no good

won't be back traffic to fast and close for our liking

09-Feb-09
2nd time around, looked for it quite a few months ago, it must have been winter because I got bogged on the side of the road and had to ring a mate to come and get me, found relatively easy without a gpsr just looked around where I had last time, although it wasnt quite where I was expecting. TFTC

31-Jan-09
Checked it today and its exactly where I put it.

23-Jan-09
We noticed this had been recently replaced, so we had a look, but the more we looked, the more we couldn't find it.
We spent quite a bit of time getting prickled and avoiding the fast moving traffic. The bridge itself is interesting, but I'm afraid we won't be making another attempt at this one, even if it IS still there.
Sorry ROBTAS.

10-Jan-09
Its back.

31-Dec-08
We spent a loooong time looking for this one - and found a spot where a cache looks like it should have been. We had a pretty specific hint as to where this was, so I reckon it's gone.

09-Nov-08
Only had a few minutes to search for this one.....no luck and heaps of cars too. Might pick a calmer part of the day to attack again.

27-Aug-08
I think I might've made this too hard for myself... I couldn't make sense of the hint when I looked for the cache... driving past on a bus two days later, however, I think I noticed something that I didn't the first time... I'll be back.

14-May-08
This cache is really VERY CLOSE to the traffic - stick your bum out and it will get hit. TNLN

13-Apr-08
Would never have noticed this interesting bridge otherwise - thanks for bringing me here. Unfortunately I took the wet route in - through the long grass, which proved to be unnecessary - ended up with soaked shoes to start my day's adventures.
TNLN TFTC.

13-Apr-08
Most interesting bridge and cache spotted easily. Took a thorn while covering cache, LN. TFTH robtas

12-Mar-08
Found this with Snuva, who came to stay, so had a great time caching together. Been over this bridge so many times and yet not really noticed it. Glad I finally have, great piece of history. TFTC

12-Mar-08
First find of a relaxing post-work caching trip with MullinItOvr. Thank you for the cache - I've passed this way before but never stopped.

11-Mar-08
Finally got out to grab these “two†bridges.
Thanks for a couple more ‘Northern’ caches Rob
I better get out and find a few more or you might end up with more hides than I have finds!!! LOL don’t really know why I’m laughing……that’s not funny!!!
TNLNSL TFTC

25-Feb-08
A nice old bridge close to the city, Have never stopped to have a close look before,
Thanks robtas

23-Feb-08
With rebulus and gspblu we were able to locate and log this cache as part of our FEB ‘08 NUMBERS RUN.
One of the quickest finds today.
Thanks again robtas for being one of the 24 cache owners that made our trip a success.

23-Feb-08
This cache was found as part of our
FEB 08 NUMBERS RUN along the north coast between
Somerset and Launceston
Thanks robtas for placing this cache so as to make this trip possible for us to do.

23-Feb-08
The seed for this "FEB 08 NUMBERS RUN" germinated during our South Coast Chaos walk and now we have done it.
Finished work as early as possible, not early enough, on Friday and set of for Somerset. Managed about two hours sleep/rest and started 00:00 and finished at 23:54 today.
We had relaxed breaks for breakfast, lunch and dinner and achieved our goal with only nine DNFs, no injuries and were still smiling at the end.Big Grin
Thankyou for this cache robtas

19-Feb-08
What can I say....missed by that much...just a couple of minutes behind 3daygrowyh. It seems we both used the cover of darkness to get the edge on the local lads...and it worked...though I'll have to get up even earlier it seems if I want a FTF..lol.
Rather ironic that a cache has been placed here as I spotted this old bridge just a few weeks ago and had similar thoughts. It's amazing how well built these colonial bridges were and can still carry modern day traffic.TFTC Robtas Cheers.

19-Feb-08
Found at dawn.
Lovely old bridge.
FTF - but only by a minute!
Thanks Robtas.
