Description

The AFL……

Over the years, teams have come, teams have gone and teams have ceased to exist. (My team at Fitzroy being one such team) Who will be the premiers this year? Can the Western Bulldogs go back to back?   Which teams will actually be here in 5 or 10 years? Will there be any more mergers or re-locations? Can Tasmania get a team in the competition? I have no idea…….so I guess we just need to watch to see what happens…….

This cache is number 9 and is for Greater Western Sydney, and part of their history is:

Founded – 2009
Colours – Orange and Charcoal
Nickname – Giants
Premierships – 0

If you follow the series in numeric sequence, the total distance is approx 7klms. Completing it this way, you will be on formed fire trails all the way, with the only time you need to venture of the trail is to find the caches themselves.

The caches are located between 5 and 50 metres off the trail. This is a loop walk/ride so there is no back tracking or deviations along any side trails. After the last cache in the series (#18) you will find yourself almost back at the second cache......and then approx 300 metres from the parking co-ords.

You can certainly take a bike, however if you do, please be aware that the track where numbers 9, 10 and 11 are located is not as well found as the other trails……so a little caution is required. There are no issues for walkers….apart from the uphill sections…….

Riding should see you completed the loop in about 2 hours, if walking, allow yourself approx 4 to be on the safe side. (You should do it in less.) If you decide to do any of the other nearby caches though, allow extra time for those.

Parking co-ords are: S35 17.816 E149 00.153

Day #1: With a long weekend off, I decided on coming to Canberra for it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any accommodation for the Saturday night, so instead, I ended up with a single night but that doesn’t matter. I’m sure I’ll enjoy my Geocaching trip still. Big Grin I started the Saturday with avenging some DNF’s as well as finding newer caches along ‘Sutton Rd’ to my accommodation in Queanbeyan. Yes, this did include finding the new AL in ‘Gundaroo’ which was great fun and full of history lessons to learn about. After finding these caches, I then booked into accommodation and have a late lunch. Afterwards, I decided on doing the new AL in Queanbeyan. I also decided on walking from my accommodation and visit some of the other caches around. After a rest and dinner, I went and did some night caching. Only two find for this and both were quick finds. Now time to get some sleep.

Day #2: After a great night sleep, I went to attack the GCA ALF trail and the Starwars Letterbox trail plus a few loose caches that were along the way. I started by re-attempting the new AL bonus cache in Queanbeyan but unfortunately, I needed to leave with a DNF again. Sad Well, time to head over to the ALF trail and get started on my bush walk. I collected a couple before I got there. It took about 1h40m for the walk which was a lot, lot faster than when I did it back in 2016 for the GC version of these. It was great fun and full of great views… again. Big Grin The area has changed a bit since last time. After having a break, it was time to start the Starwars trail. I drove to the end of the trail and worked my way back to the start of the trail. After this I knew I was nearby(ish) a cache that would fill in a gap in my Jasmer grid (May 2017). This is a rare month for me to find because the closest couple to my home coordinates were Canberra and Albury. These are 2.25h of driving each way (totalling 4.5hours) before finding caches and all other driving plus meals. In other words, a big day. It feels great to finally have this finally done. Now time for lunch. After lunch, I decided on collecting some more of the UGC caches, that I qualify for and then it was time to head home from my trip away.

All found caches were a mixture of both GC and GCA caches. TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all the CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and others enjoyment. Big Grin TFTC’s Big Grin

**P.S. A lot of the caches I found on Day #2 (5/10/20) need TLC.**

I was an hour later than I hoped when I parked the car to set out to knock over this series in my quest for even more points in this year's Summer Game. The series wasn't as bad as I thought it to be - maybe I was thinking of a different series. All the coordinates were good, which led to quick finds except at #14- more details in its log. There was a wide variety of hide locations but I enjoyed the fact that I could anticipate which side of the track the cache would be on. I was happy that my Fitbit showed over 12500 steps and 42 flights of stairs! Thanks for the series Sol de Lune. All logs now carry my name in full or as SG. ClappingDancing

GCA 1823. Found during a nice - ever increasing - walk with minniek before the event in Canberra today.

At least doing these caches one by one earns us our glass or two of wine each evening ! Quick find at GZ. Long walk back - lol...

Walking in this reserve off Uriarra Road was different to the others we walked today. It was much more open with well defined fire trails. That meant that we could keep to the fire trails for most of the walk and then walk easily off trail to the caches. There were a few instances where we took short cuts through the open areas and light bush because the fire trails took circuitous routes and would have been significant addition to the total distance walked. In all it took us three hours to complete the walk and we found seventeen of the eighteen caches. The only unusual aspect of the walk was that we didn't see one animal (not even a roo!) and only saw two magpies and one spider. There was a marked lack of wildlife compared to the other areas visited today.

Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Sol de Lune for the cache and a very enjoyable series.

9/29 today.

Brisk pace made this powertrail a fairly quick affair - 18 in 1:20!

Plans were afoot to grab a lot of GCA trads today, and these were the first on the list
