Description
Battleship !
Battleship was a recent movie loosely (very loosely !!) based on the Boardgame Battleship. It was a pretty good yarn about defending the world against invading aliens, and in the version released in Australia its the Aussies saving the day ! The Battleship of the title is in fact the USS Missouri (BB-63), dragged out of mothballs at Pearl Harbour to take on the aliens.
The Royal Australian Navy had never had a Battleship. The closest it came was the Battlecruiser HMAS Australia (I) before, during and just after World War I. Research some basic facts on HMAS Australia (I) (hint hint Wikipedia) to find this cache located at South AB CD.EFG East HJK LM.NPQ.
HMAS Australia (I) :
Ordered : 0M December CM0G
Laid Down : QE June PMP0
Launched : QB October PMHP
Commissioned : QC June CGHA
Following her Commissioning, on N0 June, King George V and the Prince of Wales visited HMAS Australia (I) to farewell the ship
HMAS Australia (I) only ever fired in anger twice: at a German merchant vessel in January 1915, and at a suspected submarine contact in December 191D
Balltle Honours : Rabaul HGCJ & North Sea HGCL-CK
Scuttled : HQ April CMQF

I do have an interest in RAN history as my Dad was in the Navy. Managed to solve this one without ANY help from the CO ! Lol.
Anyhow, I headed down south to buy a new graphics card for my PC, and then headed from Fyshwick to this cache..
Happy find in a familiar location
Interestingly, a broken down (newish) car nearby.. No muggles saw me though!
TFTC Fitzy! (and also a big thank you too, for all the caches you've put on GCA recently!)
Headed out today to make the find and once at GZ the cache soon spotted....from the bottom. No sure if the GZ is as it was when the cache was placed, so will advise the CO to ensure all is good.
Other than that, an interesting historical cache that was fun to read up about.
Thanks fitzy.....
