Description

Sodium

Sodium is a chemical element with symbol Na (from Latin natrium) and atomic number 11. It is a soft, silvery-white, highly reactive alkali metal. Sodium is an essential element for all animals, some plants, and - with Chlorine - fish and chip lovers around the world.

This series of caches is dedicated to the Elements and the Periodic Table. While my aim is to get them all out eventually - they will broken down into subsets of caches - in this case 7 caches, 6 Traditionals and a Puzzle cache as follows :

Trad - GA10212 Oxygen (find 'g')

Trad - GA10213 Fluorine (find 'h')

Trad - GA10214 Neon (find 'j')

Trad - GA10215 Sodium (find 'k')

Trad - GA10216 Magnesium (find 'l')

Trad - GA10217 Aluminium (find 'm')

which you can then use to find

Mystery - GA10218 Silicon (find 'BB' for future reference) at S35 1g.hj3 E149 1k.lm7

Good Luck and Happy Hunting !

A great second day of caching in the ACT and Queanbeyan. Today not so much numbers, but lots of fun. After a few local caches in Queanbeyan it was of into the beautiful Molonglo george and then to the event in Queanbeyan before doing the long drive home.

After spending a short amount of time this afternoon tying off some loose ends we headed out towards the Kowen Forest hoping to fine the next installment of the elements series.

The traffic was quite thick this afternoon and whizzed by as we looked for this cache. The cache was located in a familiar hide and we found the container and its contents to be in good condition. We recorded the information we needed for the finàl in this set. We then but everything bach as found.

We both have sodium stories but perhaps one of favorites comes from our year 12 class's presentation to the some of the primary school students during science week. One enthusiastic demonstrator was talking about the properties of metals and cut off a marble size piece of sodium which he then proceeded to drop into a trough of water. With a fizz and a flash and a burst of smoke and flame the sodium caught fire, became airbourne, and landed on the carpet where the burning continued until it was extinguished. As the sodium took off the student said 'Oh sh....ivers Sue I think that piece was a little big.'

Thanks for this cache Fitzy and for a chance to recall some of our sodium experiences.

#GA1999 - 07:10; After collecting the first in this latest periodic addition to the table, I was back early this morning on my way to Batemans Bay for number two. Made sure I was on the right side of the road today and after waiting for some keen cyclists to pass me by, soon had the cache in hand and another one off the 'to do' list.
