Description

The High Road to Canberra.

This road runs from Collector to Gundaroo...high above the usual route of the Federal Highway that runs from Collector to Canberra, and offers some great views over Lake George.     Total distance is just 24 klms, with 18 of that being a good, well maintained dirt road.

This series of 20 caches are spread over the 18 klms of the dirt road and are made up of 5 of the usual Sistema type containers, but also a variety of containers sourced from a local Canberra recycle depot...with some very interesting and different types of containers.    You won't have any issues finding any of them, however, there maybe a photo in the gallery of the more interesting ones.     The size of the caches range from a single 'micro' to about 5 'large' size containers...so there is a bit of variety in that as well.

All GZ's will have an area that is safe it park in, or at least a wider part of the road that will have visibility in both directions.

The number sequence for the caches runs from Collector to Gundaroo, however you can do the series in the reverse direction if you need to.    The caches are on both sides of the road.......and the road does have some light traffic, but you could also drive the entire length and not see another car.   Time of day/week will dictated that.

Allow a couple of hours to make all the finds, and to check out the views along the way.    Remember, it's not a race, so take your time and enjoy the area.   Once you finish and after you head through Gundaroo towards Canberra, the Sutton Bakery would be a good spot for a bit of lunch/morning or afternoon smoko.

Hope you enjoy a different route to get to Canberra.....

This was a weekend of events and epic cache days. It started with a Friday afternoon back road trip to Goulburn to visit 11 Australian Animals series caches and the two events. Saturday started with a fun event celebrating a special day of the year followed by caches targeting DT grid caches. Sunday was another trip to Goulburn where I finally managed to visit the Ridge Road caches above Lake George. In Goulburn along with the two events I did the Graveyard Adventure Labs and the caches associated with that. My weekend finished on Monday with another walk along the Molonglo to get a Where-i-go and an unexpected challenge cache.

On the way to Goulburn I also manages to locate 19 out of 20 in the High road series. A great way to fill in the afternoon.

Thanks.

As my daughter had a party at home to which I wasn't invited I decided to stay the night elsewhere and hoping to find my house in one piece tomorrow. Drove all the way to Collector and then Gundaroo to start this part of the trail to Yass. As I started late I only just made it to Yass before it was pitch dark. Good fun on much more busy road then expected. Had to use stealth a lot of times. All caches found well and thanks for placing them!

Day 16 Mainland trip
Having left Canberra behind we are now in Goulburn and headed out to find a few GCA caches and this was one. Thanks for placing along this high road as we wouldn't have even gone this way except for geocaching. Lucky cache still here I think as road has been graded closeby. TFTC

I was out caching by myself today and decided to have an early start to be home again before the forecast storms arrived. I succeeded in that, but I didn't finish all the caches I was hoping to. I have never travelled that road before and I didn't realise how pretty the country is up there - and I was incredibly delighted when on approaching GZ #1, I could appreciate the views from the top - how wonderful they are. All the coordinates were great which meant easy finds. Caches mostly were in good condition and notes will be sent to the CO re the individual caches that require it. Checked the cache while in the area and found it had been pushed to the end of the log. Have moved closer to opening and all should be good.

Cache on....

Found 7:13pm with girlfriend. We had travelled here via Bugendore picking up a few GC and GA caches along the way and the round trip entailed finding these caches along the high road but we had left for the trip a little late in the day. I didn’t quite expect the road to be dirt either so the drive in my road vehicle was going to be a little more sedate than usual. A quick look around and I soon had the cache in hand. Signed the log and then returned cache to hiding spot.
Thanks for the cache.

Went out with KittyKatch and Joolay to hide some caches for the State of the Nation game and we decoded to grab this series as well. It was the perfect day for it and we had a lot of fun and laughs, quite easy to find. tftc Sol De Lune

Again the view from this spot was worth stopping for. After the photos were taken we looked around and felt sure we knew where the cache would be. Searched from one end to the other no cache. We moved to another similar object again nothing!! Time to read the hint. This confirmed the GPS was pointing at the correct object. The container was regular. How hard would it be to see a regular container where the hint said it would be? Surely we are not that cache blind!

After another search of the objects, returning to the car for a torch and still no cache we were about to give up when one of us spotted something red under a hawthorn tree in the long grass. Yes it was a tin and yes when we opened it it contained a well bagged log sheet as well as a small amount of water.

The disposable hand towel came into its own and the tin was soon dry. Log returned we then replaced the container as per the hint. We hope the animal that probably kicked the container out of its hide has moved on after finding that the original contents of the tin were eaten long ago. The hide did not appear to be used as a permanent home for a native creature.

Thanks for this cache Sol de Lune. We enjoyed our little adventure.

After a caching run to Goulburn took the scenic route back home via Collector, Gundaroo and Gungahlin. An easy find, thanks.

After doing the chocolate factory series last week, decided to do this trail today. Trail completed in reverse order - all caches found OK. It was quite cold and windy along the trail today, especially at the higher caches. Occasional drizzle, but the rain held off. Good to see a variety of cache containers and hides.

Thanks,

Quick find on the way to work with Fitzy_1965 this morning. Drove through fog from Goulburn. Was nice to break through the top of it and find the cache in the sunshine.

Fantastic! A nice trail to cherry pick for my GCA streak ! Another quick find and nicely tucked away.

A small diversion on my way to work. I managed to dodge the rain and really enjoyed the variety of containers. All were found without any dramas and all had blank log books. So I was very happy with the *FTF*, the views and the nice little drive in the country.
Thanks Sdl for the cache and the fun.

#GA1738 - 12:49; I saw this series published last night and decided to get out along the gravel road today before the forecast rain descended on the district. It took just over an hour from finding the first one, to emerging back onto sealed road just as the showers arrived. Managed to locate all of the caches in reverse order and no ladder was required. A couple took a bit longer than the others, but that was mainly because I left the GPSr in the car for all but two or three where I needed extra help. Apologies for the generic logs. Out this morning finding GAs with Just a cacher in the rain. What could be more fun??!!
Thanks for the caches, Sol!

We noticed that these had been published overnight, so we took off for a short road trip before work.
The air was cool and crisp, with a nice fress breeze, and those tiny rain drops that come at you sideways like slivers of ice - I was in my element. Clapping

We managed to find all but one, and that one was a bit out of reach for old, tired bodies today. I could definitely see where I think it is, but didn't have a handy ladder. For once, the Bunny was unable to climb or stretch - out of practice, I keep telling him!

Thanks for hiding these, Sol. I managed to put swaps in some of them.
