Description
The High Road to Canberra.
This road runs from Collector to Gundaroo...high above the usual route of the Federal Highway that runs from Collector to Canberra, and offers some great views over Lake George. Total distance is just 24 klms, with 18 of that being a good, well maintained dirt road.
This series of 20 caches are spread over the 18 klms of the dirt road and are made up of 5 of the usual Sistema type containers, but also a variety of containers sourced from a local Canberra recycle depot...with some very interesting and different types of containers. You won't have any issues finding any of them, however, there maybe a photo in the gallery of the more interesting ones. The size of the caches range from a single 'micro' to about 5 'large' size containers...so there is a bit of variety in that as well.
All GZ's will have an area that is safe it park in, or at least a wider part of the road that will have visibility in both directions.
The number sequence for the caches runs from Collector to Gundaroo, however you can do the series in the reverse direction if you need to. The caches are on both sides of the road.......and the road does have some light traffic, but you could also drive the entire length and not see another car. Time of day/week will dictated that.
Allow a couple of hours to make all the finds, and to check out the views along the way. Remember, it's not a race, so take your time and enjoy the area. Once you finish and after you head through Gundaroo towards Canberra, the Sutton Bakery would be a good spot for a bit of lunch/morning or afternoon smoko.
Hope you enjoy a different route to get to Canberra.....

On the way to Goulburn I also manages to locate 19 out of 20 in the High road series. A great way to fill in the afternoon.
Thanks.

Having left Canberra behind we are now in Goulburn and headed out to find a few GCA caches and this was one. Thanks for placing along this high road as we wouldn't have even gone this way except for geocaching. TFTC
Today we tackled this High Road series with Gullivers Travels54 and enjoyed the scenery along the way.

After finding 4. High Road to Canberra we moved on to #5. We decided to target a few of these caches as we were running a bit late. The coordinates were accurate so it made it a quick find
Signed the log and replaced as found. The cache was full of water again but the log dry. We emptied the water but we hadn't picked up one of the hand towels. (Another thing to add to my caching survival bag. Thanks for the cache Sol de lune
Locals must have been returning from Saturday activities as the road was relatively busy and we were glad there was enough room near this hide to park several trucks. Safely off the road we headed to GZ where we spotted a large container. When the shorter team member, the one that fits easily under bushes, picked up the container she was surprised to find it was quite heavy. As she opened it the reason became obvious - the container was full of water.
Water drained we found the log book safe and dry in its ziplock bag. We decided that the best way to dry it was to use the disposable hand towel thoughtfully proved at an earlier cache. This worked a treat.
The container is not water proof but we are not sure how all that water entered the container as it was closed firmly when we found it and the area was damp but didnt appear to have been under water.
Thanks for this cache Sol de Lune and an interesting piece of recycling.
In the continuing quest to a streak of 90 days with a GCA Cache find (soon to extend to be a quest for 180 day streak - I'm not even thinking about the 365 challenge yet ! Lol)I headed out along this now familiar road to grab the next in this neat series of GCA Traditional caches. The views alone are worth the trip up here. Sol de Lune has done a great job with the various containers and hides so far - I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here ! This early in the morning (about 7.15 am) there is very little traffic to worry about, although near the start is a school bus stop so you do see kids waiting there to be picked up. I have found that there are safe places to pull over in near all the cache locations.
Number 5 in the series - a nice big spot to park - big enough for two cars as things turn out - and so out I hopped in the cool for the search. The bushes were a bit wet and as I was dressed for work I carefully looked around until GZ and the cache was spotted. I did a bit of a limbo movement to make the grab, then walked back to the car for the signing ceremony. That completed, I returned the cache to its hiding spot, still avoiding the wet trees, jumped back in the car and headed towards Gundaroo for minniek to make a GC find for today as well.
Thanks to Sol de Lune for the hide and the series. Its proving very useful, but I will soon be asking you to extend it - by about 90 more if you can manage it ! Lol.
TNLN - TFTC !!
Cheers....
PS - I'm thinking of changing my caching name (again) - how does GeeGeeEff sound ??
Thanks,
Thanks Sdl for the cache and the fun.
Thanks for the caches, Sol!
The air was cool and crisp, with a nice fress breeze, and those tiny rain drops that come at you sideways like slivers of ice - I was in my element. Clapping
We managed to find all but one, and that one was a bit out of reach for old, tired bodies today. I could definitely see where I think it is, but didn't have a handy ladder. For once, the Bunny was unable to climb or stretch - out of practice, I keep telling him!
Thanks for hiding these, Sol. I managed to put swaps in some of them.
