Description
The No 1 Pump Station Mundaring stands at the foot of Mundaring Weir and provides an opportunity to explore one of Australia’s most significant industrial heritage sites.
The Goldfields Water Supply Scheme designed by CY O’Connor was originally built to transfer water from the Perth hills to the goldfields of Western Australia, a distance of 560 kilometres. The scheme was opened in 1903. On average, 90 million litres of water are pumped through the pipeline each day, in an engineering feat that has continued uninterrupted since 1903.
No 1 Pump Station was the first of eight steam pump stations and an extensive four-year renovation project by the National Trust now makes No 1 Pump Station a showcase for the scheme.
It is open Saturday - Sunday 12pm -4pm and Public Holidays 12pm - 4pm.
You will need to go to the No1 Pump Station to obtain information that will enable you to log a find on this cache.
Question 1. How many round windows are there around the building?
Question 2. How many panes of glass are there in the oblong windows on the East side of the building?
Question 3. NOW THIS IS A GOOD ONE - how many panes of glass are there in the half arch window on the east side of the building?
To find the answer to the next question you will need to find some signs on the west sid of the building including one with the walk trails listed.
Question 4. What is the distance from the No.1 Pump Station to the Mundaring Weir Hotel?
***EVEN THOUGH THE CACHE COORDINATES ARE LISTED YOU WILL NEED TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU CAN LOG THIS CACHE AS FOUND***
