Description

In the series of Trains In The Shire: Waterfall.

The station opened on 9 March 1886 as Waterfalls, being renamed later in the year. It served as the line's terminus until it was extended to Scarborough in 1887. When the line was duplicated from Hurstville on 12 December 1890, the station was relocated northwards. In 1897 a locomotive depot opened.

On 4 May 1905 the station moved 600 metres north to its present location.

On 20 December 1994, a shunting accident involving two empty S sets saw one train jack-knife onto the platform, demolishing the concrete pedestrian bridge. South of Waterfall railway station is the site of the Waterfall train disaster, a rail accident that claimed the lives of the driver and six passengers on 31 January 2003.

Work commenced in late 2013 to make the station fully wheelchair accessible.

Waterfall has sidings for staging freight trains in either direction and a bypass track for goods trains on either side of the platforms. There are also three sidings for the stabling of suburban electric trains to the east of the station. If both platforms at Waterfall station are occupied, then trains that do not stop at Waterfall will also pass by on the bypass tracks.

Completing a few GCA cachers today, thanks to Team MavEtJu I'm a Gnome, duh!

I have a reason to start doing some local GA caches.
Given that my GC goal is to lift the D/T rating to 1.9/1.9 for my 8,000th find (I am on 6,400 @ 1.82/1.79 now) and that we are doing the York Peninsular power trail in March (over 400 in a day mostly 1.5/1.5 and nearly 1,000 all up), I am trying to avoid doing any GC caches under a 3/3.
With this handicap and the Journey or Destination game drawing to a close, it is time to spread my wings and keep caching by doing GA caches and at the same time try to get myself into a position where I will win a PathTag.
Thanks for providing caches.
Just had a blank and am running out of caches found today.

#GA2764 - 08:30; Day seven of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune and after a night in Sydney we were heading closer to home as we cached south through to Wollongong and Shellharbour before heading up Macquarie Pass to the highway home. Another visit to a railway station and after parking the geomobile somewhat less than ideally, wandered down to grab the nearby CORS before heading back to grab this cache with Sdl and add more TITS to the series for us. Second to last day of the Sol de Lune / LuckyL10n NSW adventure. After attending the Morisset Mega, heading up to and back from Tweed Heads, we were now on the final leg. Have always liked trains and have enjoyed a couple of previous trips to the Shire for caching, so this series was a gimme.

We had no problems with this one and the log was soon signed.

Thanks TMEJ....another one crossed off.

Nice fresh log means FTF time! Plenty of cobwebs guard this hide so maybe take a stick to the space first rather than just putting your hand in like I did! That's three TITS now, so many more to go.
