Description
(This is a Virtual Event only. There will NOT be anything at the GZ for cachers to see or attend. The location has been choosen as it is close to the 'Home' of Geocaching Australia.)
Back on 10 August 2009, the Geocaching Australia Forums held an event where our goal was to have as many cachers online as possible, all at the same time. As it turned out, 123 of our members managed to be a part of that fun event, and that record of 123 still stands today….8 years later. (For those who aren’t aware, if you look down the bottom of the main page of our forums under ‘Who is online’ you’ll see the details of that night.)
The volunteers here at Geocaching Australia think it’s time we attempted this record again……and hopefully smash that record number of 123.
The attempt will also act a Q&A session for those members who might like to ask one of the volunteers a question or two. As you can imagine with more than 123 cachers online at any one time, answering every question that may be asked could get difficult. If we can’t answer a question during the event, we will post any replies after the event has concluded, meaning members will be always be able to check back later to find their answer. Of course, we do hope to answer any questions during the event.
The details of the event are:
Date
Wednesday 27 Sep 17
Time
8.30pm – 9.00pm for QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS & ACT members
8.00pm – 8.30pm for SA & NT members
6.30pm – 7.00pm for WA members
For those cachers who are not yet members of Geocaching Australia, you will need to register your membership online no later than Monday 25 Sep 17 to allow time for your registration to be approved. This process will not take you long, however it will allow us the time to ensure everyone is approved before the record attempt starts.
As for your requirements on the night to ensure you are included in this attempt, you must be online on the Geocaching Australia Forums between the times listed for your state….and stay online for the entire 30 minutes. You will need to go to the forum topic that we set up (details of this will be posted closer to the time) and post the simple comment…..I’m here....or something similar.
This post will automatically show your cacher name and you’ll then be deemed as being online. REMEMBER though, you must stay online in forums for the duration of the attempt…..so the full 30 minutes. This is required as some members might not be able to log on til 15 minutes into the record attempt….but if someone logs on at 1 minute past the start time and then logs off…..we don’t capture everyone as being online at the same time.
For those who would like a ’smiley’ for attending, you can do that here. Simply log your 'Attend' here on this Event page after the record attempt has concluded. Remember though, you must be on our Geocaching Australia Forums to be a part of the record attempt.
As a bonus for dragonZone players, there will be a Limited Trophy (100 points) that will be available for you to claim after the event has concluded. Simply go into your dragonZone trophy page for the Limited Trophy to update.
No doubt there may be some questions before we even get to the record attempt, if so, please ask here and we’ll answer them for you.

Maybe we'll try again next year.....maybe.

Awersome to see so many on line.
Thought that we had logged preiously did not register.
I watched the numbers steadily go up to a rather impressive level.
Then I managed to take a quick screen shot as proof.
Thanks for all that 'attended'.
See you all out on the trail sometime.

I have been playing GCA more and more of late, since the Christmas in July challenge my kids have been having some fun finding the various moveables - we just need more of them here in SA. Maybe a new GCA moveable comp over December/January is needed again! (hint hint)
I had to wait for petan to log the event first, because that's the rules they gave me. I can't find a cache until they have found it first. I don't know if that applies to events but lets keep the status quo.
Thank you to everyone who provided me with an interesting online adventure.
Samboo xx
After scrolling back through the posts I found my first successful attempt at posting at 27 September 17 8:38 pm. I think I started writing just before or just on the 8.30pm start time but clicking submit gave me a 'these people have just replied to that thread" then again and a third time before I was quick enough to press submit before anyone else posted. The speed in which pages of posts multiplied was just phenomenal and highly enjoyable. Well done, it was a lot of fun.
Thanks for the event.
We should do this again sometime.
So what was the final number 341?
same time next year?
Well done and TFTE
Logged on for the whole 30 minutes.

Special thanks to Caughtatwork and Craigrat and all the other senators, faeries and DZ admins for the back end work that keeps GCA running.
@eat.sleep.cache.repeat
Glad to have been able to help break the record.
Thanks Geocaching Australia

Would be good to see the event tried again next year.
Thanks for the Event and fun 30 odd minutes.
We posted in the designated thread.
We were really impressed with the turnout for this online event, and hope to see it continue in the future.
Thanks GCA.
Good to see a new record and happy to try again next year.
Like some others that rang through the event, my caching name disappeared on my computer but could be seen on my mates computers so I know I was attending as were the others whose names disappeared.
Sainted this cache at 2100hrs along with all other attendees
Well done to Geocaching Australia for setting it up and for having such a successful record breaking event
Cheers and thanks

A different way to spend 30 mins.
