Description

Phonetic Alphabet - Oscar

A nice simple series of caches to help boost your numbers (and mine!!). Scattered around Canberra in groups you may choose to grab them all at once - which will help you towards a number of dragonZone Trophies based on finds per day of the week/month - or maybe do them one a day which will help your dragonZone streak ! Either way have fun and BYO Pen ! There is safe parking within 50m of these caches on Black Mountain Drive.

The 26 code words in the NATO phonetic alphabet are assigned to the 26 letters of the English alphabet in alphabetical order so that critical combinations of letters and numbers can be pronounced and understood by those who exchange voice messages by radio or telephone regardless of language barriers or the quality of the communication channel. In other words so that messages can be understod without the similarities of the sounds in letters such as b c d e g p t v being responsible for misunderstandings.

The series will consist of:

Alpha - GA10698

Bravo - GA10699

Charlie - GA10700

Delta - GA10701

Logs

21-Jun-21
I went up the mountain to log a Virtual cache and came down finding GA caches. This cache and log were good. TFTC minniek.

This road is surprisingly busy on a rainy night. We had to leave Nibletricecakes here for signing duty while we did a loop and avoided blocking traffic. There may or may not have been a discussion about leaving her there.

Teamed up with GLISS! and onieferret to do some caching on this very cold, wet canberra night. So many spiders and so many cars on this little night adventure! It is certainly making things interesting. Glad to have another cache in hand Smile

Another cache on our weekly caching night with Nibletricecakes and GLISS!
Thank you

An easy find, even if a bit hard to do in a group on foot due to traffic. Thanks

I had a really frustrating day today as I didn't keep track of exactly which caches I had done to start with, so I had to do them all over again. I eventually completed this trail so thanks Minniek. All caches found and logs signed. Brick Wall

11-Jun-18

Finally got out to do some caching. This 'powertrail' looked to be just what I needed for some quick GA's.
Just a couple of hours before dark on this beautiful, clear Canberra day.
My compliments to Minniek for this lovely jaunt through one of our countries' most scenic areas.
Thanks for the cache Minniek. Dancing Dancing Dancing

Last pick up and we had to drive past it coming down the hill and walk back up to it. A bit dodgy on the side of the road parking but all good. Cache found in good nick. Thanks MinnieK. I think that's my '5 caches found for every month day' badge earned. Cheers Smile

Dropped Wilma at school and thought I'd do some caches on the way home. One thing led to another and I was on a roll to collect the GCA caches of the Alpha/phonetic alphabet series. Very happy to have these unfound piles of caches turned into smiles. Smile TFTC minniek.

I had to do two trips up the mountain to find a safe place to approach this one. I parked on the uphill run near the big sign that labels the area as a nature reserve. Then I crossed the road and followed the boundary fence of the botanic gardens up to the cache site. Very Happy

After the GC Info Event, I figured it was high time to find these 6 caches along here. Not having a 4WD, finding somewhere to park nearby made it a challenge. Though each cache was found after a slightly longer walk that is likely anticipated. Oh well Very Happy

TFTC MinnieK!

Thanks minniek

Thanks minniek

Time to grab a couple of these newer ones to fill in a few holes in the calendar. No problem with this first one and my name was soon in the log....

Thanks Minniek...

#GA2180 - 12:25; After a pleasant morning tea with Sol de lune and our Tasmanian visitors the 2y'stassies, I headed back to the mountain for another find in this series to fill another hole in the dZ calendar. I parked in a precarious spot, but was fortunate that I was able to do a quick find and sign on this one. I should really have continued down the hill a little further where there was a more appropriate park only 60 or so metres away. Mission complete, it was off home for a few chores. We continued up the mountain to Oscar. We were not sure where to park while looking for this one as there was a steady stream of traffic and there wasn't much room on the side of the road so made this a drop and run.

As we knew where the cache would be we located the cache quickly even though our GPS wanted us 10m into the bush. Again we found a pristine log book giving us a second {FTF} at 14:30.

After replacing the container Mrs y'stassie realised that she had left her phone in the car so couldn't let her other half know she was ready to be picked up so began to walk up hill towards Papa. She was half way there when Mr y'stassie drive up. It was a quick hop across the guard rail and a jump into the car. Fortunately there was no traffic for a short time.

Thanks for this cache Minniek and for the excitement of the retrieval.
