Description

Phonetic Alphabet - Quebec

A nice simple series of caches to help boost your numbers (and mine!!). Scattered around Canberra in groups you may choose to grab them all at once - which will help you towards a number of dragonZone Trophies based on finds per day of the week/month - or maybe do them one a day which will help your dragonZone streak ! Either way have fun and BYO Pen ! There is safe parking within 50m of these caches on Black Mountain Drive.

The 26 code words in the NATO phonetic alphabet are assigned to the 26 letters of the English alphabet in alphabetical order so that critical combinations of letters and numbers can be pronounced and understood by those who exchange voice messages by radio or telephone regardless of language barriers or the quality of the communication channel. In other words so that messages can be understod without the similarities of the sounds in letters such as b c d e g p t v being responsible for misunderstandings.

The series will consist of:

Alpha - GA10698

Bravo - GA10699

Charlie - GA10700

Delta - GA10701

Echo - GA10702

Foxtrot - GA10703

After work there was a call to go for this walk on Black Mountain. After all these years I have not done this track before, and did not get to finish the bushland section today as the multi took us dramatically up at one point, quite a big puffing section. I am not sure if the trees have grown or not, but there was a little debate at WP 1, but we managed anyway. The walk took us into twilight, but we made it around the loop and back to the cache before it was too dark. A great area for a walk, and I like being on the hill when there are not many people about, even in cars.

Thanks for the cache MinnieK

A cold wet night to be out caching. Heading up to Telstra tower to meet the crew, GLISS! and I thought we had time to grab a GCA or too. I jumped out to get this one whilst GLISS! manned the car. Unfortunately whilst trying to open the cache I managed to throw the cache and a giant spider into the car!!! Sigh. Cache signed. Spider removed. sigh. Thanks for the cache.

Brick Wall I had a really frustrating day today as I didn't keep track of exactly which caches I had done to start with, so I had to do them all over again. I eventually completed this trail so thanks Minniek. All caches found and logs signed.

Finally got out to do some caching. This 'powertrail' looked to be just what I needed for some quick GA's.
Just a couple of hours before dark on this beautiful, clear Canberra day.
My compliments to Minniek for this lovely jaunt through one of our countries' most scenic areas.

Fitzy_1965 (F65) and minniek (MK) picked ACTchil (AC) and I (DD) up for a fun caching day around Canberra. Fitzy_1965 had prepared a list of some nice drive by's, multi's, puzzles and ACTchil and I hadn't got this one and it was in the area and on the list soand it wasn't long till the container was spotted in clear sight. We signed the log and placed back and I covered it less discreet and back to the car. tftc and a great day out minniek and fitzy_1965.

Dropped Wilma at school and thought I'd do some caches on the way home. One thing led to another and I was on a roll to collect the GCA caches of the Alpha/phonetic alphabet series. Very happy to have these unfound piles of caches turned into smiles. Smile TFTC minniek.

I did this series as careful walks from good parking spots. The road is popular with bobsled fans who like to let gravity do its best as they drive down this hill. I nearly got wiped out twice. I would recommend that people do not expect to do these as quick drive-bys for safety reasons.

This was done from the driveway of the reservoir. This driveway has a large mirror opposite for checking whether traffic is coming.

After the GC Info Event, I figured it was high time to find these 6 caches along here. Not having a 4WD, finding somewhere to park nearby made it a challenge. Though each cache was found after a slightly longer walk that is likely anticipated. Oh well Very Happy

TFTC MinnieK!

Parking not easy. Used a turnoff down from the reservoir and walked up the road it it. An easy find. Thanks

#GA2185 - 16:10; The weather was a big improvement on the last two days as I headed back to the mountain for another cache. This one had the best parking so far, although I did overshoot a couple of days ago. No problems today and after moving away from the 'No Parking' area, left the geomobile for another quick find and sign. TFTC minniek Very HappyClan Cerberus

As we approached this cache we noticed a gravel drive just below the hiding place. We pull in and were just about to park when we noticed the no parking sign. OK, this looks like another drop and grab. This time Mrs y'stassie remembers to take her phone and we arrange that he will head up to Romeo before returning to collect her.

A short walk from below and the cache container was in hand - another {FTF} at 14:40. A check of the GPS had the coordinates spot on. All was well with the cache.

There were two clumps of blue native flowers near by. It was pleasing to see such large healthy plants.

Now it was back down to the reservoir entrance to wait for Mr y'stassie's return.

Thanks for this cache Minniek. We particularly enjoyed the wild flowers flowering near this cache. The view across the gully was worth stopping for.
