Description

J & J's sixty-seventh geocache hide. An easy drive-by in the Port Germein Gorge.

This is the site of the historic Bangor hotel (originally called the Gorge Hotel) which served as a stop-over point for bullock teams between 1888 and 1911.

There was also a school, which later became the hotel stables, a post office, general store and a blacksmith.

There isn't much left of the hotel these days, and even the plaques that used to be here have been removed.

You are looking for a regular sized Sistema painted in the mandatory J & J cammo colours. It contains the usual swaps along with the standard log book, pen, stash note, dessicant and a pathtag for the first finder.

Happy hunting!

Found It!
An interesting bit of history. Spotted the cache fairly quickly but getting my hand on it took a bit longer...

Can't imagine that many bullock teams overnighting here. Life was very different then. Thanks for the history

Having some business in Orroroo, I decided to go the interesting way, through the gorge. Last time I was in the area, I deliberately passed this one up as I felt two FTF's right next to each other was being greedy. No such scruples this time. The denizens of SA have had their chance. A quick find, although I missed the hawthorn on the way into the hide. Not to worry, it didn't miss me on the way out!
I took the Minnie Hottie, to please Friesianess and I left a brass test point. I also scored the path-tag!
Many thanks for the cache. I've passed this ruin before but not stopped. Unfortunately the plaque has been stolen, so this cache is the best source of information. Interesting to observe the size of the tree growing inside the ruin. That didn't grow overnight!
