Description

Pioneers Park

Pioneers Park in Sorell was previously a caravan park for several years. The Sorell Council did extensive renovations after the caravan park closed and a competition was run to rename the park. Pioneers Park was chosen to honour the early settlers of the district.

The park is a popular picnic spot to visit with bbqs, play equipment, car park and toilets.

If you continue along the Sorell Rivulet and follow The Waterway Trail you will find more interpretative boards outlining the early history of Sorell. The cemetary nearby also has interpretative boards and is an interesting spot to visit.

Please answer the following questions from the information board at GZ and select the correct answers by choosing questions and answers under Actions on the RH side of the cache page. When you select the answers correctly you will receive a code to log to claim a smiley. Please copy and paste this code into the "Codeword" box when logging the find.

Thanks for the history lesson, muggles have no appreciation of what can be tucked away right under their noses.

After a bright and early start to have an onslaught on some southern caches we left well before daylight negotiating the fog, icy conditions and the odd slow driver to make our way to sorell after grabbing some caches there we made our way down towards Port Arthur to find most of the caches in the area, the view from the Eaglehawk lookout was brilliant. Met up with Oldsaint near the golf course where he needed assistance to turn the hazards off on his Ranger. At the second last cache in the area we meet up with Goose and Stainless Steel Rat, after a catch up and discussing some caching we headed off for seven mile beach where we located all but one of the caches we had targeted in the area.
then continued onwards to Sanford to find the rest of Whitewebbs MMMM games caches and a few others that were close by. Needing to be in New Town at 5 to pick up a heater we stopped in at Rosny Hill to grab the caches there to fill in some time, all were located and solved. After loading the heater onto my ute we decided that was enough caching for the day and headed back north arriving home around 10pm.

A quick and easy find on our way past TFTC

Hello whitewebbs thank you for the cache.

I had tried to find this cache a while ago at night when I was tied but the cords put me in someones house.

Today I had another go and the cords still put me in someones house so I wandered around until I found a sign that had the information that I required to answer the questions.

#GA2849 - 10:05; The plan for today was to head down to the Tasman Peninsula for some sightseeing and perhaps a cache or two. Driving through Sorell, the geohoney and I both commented on how much it had grown since our last visit about 5 years ago. Stopped off at the park to grab the information needed to log this cache before grabbing a coffee at Macca's on the way through. TFTC whitewebbs Very HappyClan Cerberus

We had come through the Sorell area early today to look for several caches so stopped to collect the information needed to complete this cache. Fortunately data collection was quick as rain had started to fall. Always a nice spot to visit.

Thanks Whitewebbs for another history cache.

It's always interesting to read the history and get a taste for how life was in the early days Cool

Hi whitewebbs
Have been to this park many times
When the two oldest sons were little, used to take them camping in a tent here
On many occasions, there have been caches placed and muggled here
Sainted at 1030hrs.
Always a nice walk down near the creek, Sorell Creek I think
